Good afternoon. I hope you are all well. Has anyone here heard of the accredited gemological institute in New York? Is it reputable? I bought a ring that came with one of their certificates and it has the craziest retail value estimate!

Do you trust that number? If no, then why would one trust the report?

No. There are a handful of labs that play on the letting of G I A to attempt to fool the buyer.

There's AGI and IAG.
IGA-labs dot com is currently under construction.
GRA is another that has grading reports that look almost identical to GIA.

Thanks for the replies. I also didn't think it was reputable. However, I didn't buy the ring because of it. It was being sold on a vintage shop and it looked like something my mother would enjoy for Christmas. Fascinating issue, though.... The matter of labs.
