advice needed - don't like new setting

I recently had my ring reset for a daintier setting that would allow my future wedding band to sit flush under the ring. I worked on a custom design and am not 100% pleased with the outcome. While there is a lot I love about this ring, I think it's too flat from the side. My fiancee even said it looks like a flying saucer - not the look I was going for. Does anyone have ideas on how i could possibly get this ring to look a little less flat without having it completely recast?

Sadly, you'd likely have to start over. Most ring makers we know of here slant the halo downward a few degrees so you don't have that appearance. If you are working with a jeweler and have not seen their halos (so you can choose one of their styles), you really have to provide them pictures of exactly what you want. Custom is so risky unless you have seen the jeweler make exactly what you have in mind.

I am afraid you would have to redo the whole ring. The look you prefer probably has a slightly tilted halo around the center stone. A cathedral shank could indeed be helpful to reduce the flying saucer look. Still, also with a cathedral shank a tilted halo creates the look you want.

Here's the photo from JDDN's link with tilted halo as well as a cathedral shank

Thanks - is it possible to just raise the center stone/bezel up slightly to round it out?

I think if i you raised it up any more it will be more like a UFO - the only way to fix the tilt angles or lack thereof would be to start again

Unfortunately, some halo's do look like flying saucers....

Raising it will make it look even more like an UFO. I am sorry but your only option is a new setting / redo with a slightly tilted halo.
