Hey everyone!

We are in urgent need of advise on 2 stones we are doubting between and would love some help. Our biggest issue so far has been that we can't see the facets properly in the stone or that it's see through. Are these stones good and properly cut? Is one better? Pictures of the 2 stones with certificate (below pictures is the right stone, left is a different one):

Price is the same for both stones, so we cant filter on that aspect to eliminate one.

Help would be muuuuuch appreciated!

Square stones face up very small. The .80 is going to be tiny.

Have you seen emerald cuts in person?

I only see close up pics of 1 out of 2 stones so can't really provide much advice.

Doesn't have to be big for me, I like simple and convenient :) I have slender fingers so I like the square fit better too. We have seen all stones in person yes, so far no luck with a proper cut emerald. The one in the below pictures is the better ones I think but I'm no expert :)

Sorry, for the second stone we don't have a proper picture from the jeweler. I've cropped the picture not sure if that helps.SmartSelect_20210128-220407_Photos.jpgSmartSelect_20210128-220407_Photos.jpg

Unfortunately without seeing a clearer picture of the facets it's really hard for us to give good advice.

No worries! Is the picture of the first stone a good one to analyze?

I'll pay attention next time for some proper pictures

What to look for when looking at Emerald Cuts

- Main thing is that the steps flash on/off (go white/black) all the way into the center of the stone when you are moving/tilting the stone.
- Make sure there are not too many steps off (black) at the same time or the stone will look overly dark. Same goes with too many
white steps "on" at the same time (you need some contrast for sparkle and brilliance).

I worry a little about the area I marked in red on the one stone. Make sure those facets are actually doing something (turning on/off).

I have more hopes for the one on the right but since you can see them in person you are the best judge. Ask to see the stones outside
of "jewelers" lights. They can make a piece of coal sparkle. Ask if you can see them outside, by a window etc.

Good luck!

And as examples...

Maybe not the best example but all the steps looking like they are flashing on/off

This one is not sparkling all the way into the center. Its also too "white" (not enough contrast) to be a beautiful stone.

Thank you, really appreciate your advice! We have also been shown a lot of stones that were see through, is this due to the cut being done poorly?

The stone on the left for example was very see through (same as the picture above, left stone). IMG-20210128-WA0008.jpg

I feel like emeralds are really hard to find in a proper cut, the jeweler is charging us for the stone on the right(D/VS2/0.8ct), €3650. To me that sounds expensive but maybe I'm wrong. For comparison, the first picture I posted for the 0.9ct stone but with medium fluorescence we were charged the same (in a different shop).

If anyone knows a good shop in Antwerp that is reputable when it comes to this cut please do let us know. Thanks again for all the advise!

Well, we're going to look at another diamond this week that is an E/VVS2/0.72CT/EXC/EXC

I don't want too big of a stone so I think 0.72 should be fine too. It's priced a lot cheaper as well. 2800 vs 3600 for the D stone above on the right.

And another contender!

The video should be of the certificate above, for some reason I can see a white dot in the movie but the jeweler says it's impossible as it's a VVS. The table is too high as well but she said we shouldn't go to much by the report, which I agree with.

Report below is of the 0.72ct:

We're checking both out on this week in real life so we'll see. If anyone has any advise about these tables and the polish/symmetry or the dot in the video, this would be much appreciated!
