A friend of mine, who lives in Russia, asked me to buy a stone for her and, possibly, make it into a ring (or two stones ---> earrings). Since her budget may be somewhat limited, I sent to her links to BB's stones. She liked the work and the fact that really nice stones could be bought in the US at affordable prices. She left it up to me to choose a stone. I think, garnet? I do not have much experience with BB's spinels.
But as to settings...I do not know if his stones are fit for LOGR settings, and how to find a matching LOGR.
What other types of setting would you recommend? I know Freke had good experience with Barry's spinels, but I do not know the price of the setting and where she did it.
Any ideas? I want to do something nice for her, but we are speaking about somewhat limited budget. Say, can I make something nice for her and fit it into an $ 400 - $ 500 budget?
Or maybe someone from Etsy? I looked up Sally's work, and realized that unless I am going to buy ready-made rings, I am probably above the budget. I am planning to order something for myself, but it is a different story. I never ordered anything from JKT, but given her popularity, a custom-made gold mounting will probably be above the budget as well. And I really would like to buy a nice precision-cut stone for my friend. Any ideas?
Paradoxically, I know a jeweler in Russia who is inexpensive, but my friend is not pretty angry with the whole Russian business, and wants me to order something for her.
Any advices are welcome. Even if you see something that is slightly above the budget, it is OK.
