After a nice green jade cabochon

It is a big shape though! How think would you be aiming for, for a shape like this>

Asking my jewellers for their feedback.

Maybe 3mm for the jade alone?

I find it annoying how she measures with it set!!!!! That gives me nothing in terms of how thick it is!

Exactly. Setting hides the flaws as well or enhances the colour with a closed backing.

Oh is it closed??? I hate closed settings! So hard to clean!

My other green dangles ordered are closed too. For such thin slices you need t he backing for t hem to be hardier too.

I like this pair. But the size disparity is...

That's a huge size disparity!!!!

She has a cheap necklace I like! But broke!

Which cheap necklace?

Right on top! $388 I think but not sure what size beads or how long.

Can't justify buying anything more so didn't ask her. But it does look nice!

Tiny and uneven shades!

@Burmesedaze how legit do you reckon those certificates that we get are? Cuz they look pretty formal with a QR code and even a hologram thingy on the paper.

At $388 there is no way I can be bothered to send off to a lab and back for identification.

I've been watching youtube videos on how to ID jade

Honestly no idea though I can always get them tested here for a few dollars. My jewellers eyeballed and think they are ok. It's the very green and pricey shades that are more dodge and ought to be checked.

Love those grey jade beads!

Love the lighter strand! Are they as green as that in real life?

Lighter stand is greener IRL.

@Burmesedaze do you know if your feather earrings had full metal coverage at the back?

I saw this ring today:

I was told never to buy anything like this because the gunk will set in and it cannot be cleaned.

Nope they are open back.
I think you were advised badly. Open backs are great for cleaning out gunk with a soft bristled toothbrush and mild soap! I personally like to use shampoo.

Oh no I was advised to never buy closed back I meant!

That ring I posted is really nice and thick too but closed off for some reason!

They close the backing to reflect the light better and to change the saturation. Yellow backing gives some green jade a lovely sheen when the light hits it. It's a common practice. Well, unless the stone has good translucency, I don't think it'd show up for more opaque stones.

Ok i just saw the other pics of the ring in question on FB. The bigass cab is a light yellow green. I think without the backing it'd appear too light. Put a yellow gold backing and it looks greener.

@Burmesedaze EVERY RING that she has that is green (bar a $20,000 one) has a gold backing!!! I don't want a backing!!!! I was going to save up but now I'm just dissappointed *sniffles*

@Burmesedaze I need your wisdom! And anyone else reading this!

Should I experiment first and buy a cheapie ring say like this one to see how I feel about a jade cab. Or don't waste $388 doing dumb things and use the money towards a final nicer ring?

Noooo don't buy.

Her rings aren't good value and I'm afraid the gold might be too thin.

Do you know of the best buffet I should hit if I am only hitting one buffet? A Singapore resident recommended me a bunch of restaurants but no buffet yet so I am still on the lookout for a buffet. Back when we had a life we used to hit the Carousel dinner buffet which was awesome!

Line at Shangri La is pretty good. They have this new kids club that looks awesome too. Where are you staying?

It’s really too bad you are missing the Singapore trade show in end July. It isn’t big but I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun shopping there.

Have also bought a few things from Allaboutjade (legit but can be pricey) and been to Yok Dee. There’s also Ultimate Jadeite which as YC has recommended to visit in person. Have fun and hope you enjoy your trip!

I thought you might say no!

No to the pricier ones too when I have money? You reckon I need to buy a rock and build?

WHY AM I SO BAD AT THIS????

I'm getting jaded by her photos and videos lately, pun intended.
I keep seeing nice lavenders and ask for videos. The videos show the skin tone as too red, which means the lavender is also over saturated in the video and photo.

I think I'm calling it a day with coloured jade from FB lady. Until a nice glassy comes along. That should be easier as it's colourless.

I'd say get a cab rather than something set from her?
