I just called the airline on which I''m flying to WP1. The ticket is on my dad''s miles, and he has super-duper-quadruple-platinum-gazillion-mile-flier status on this airline, and has for about 8 years now. So I figured, since I''m on his frequent flier number, I should get some service.

I said "I''m going to be bringing my wedding gown on the plane... It''s very delicate, is there anything you can do to help me?" And the lady says "If you''re not flying business class, then no. You can''t hang anything in the closet unless you''re in business class." So I ask to speak to the manager and she''s all "I''ve had this question before and the manager says the same thing." So I said "So there''s nothing you can do to help me." And she says. "No."

End of conversation.

What a nasty you-know-what!

I''m sure that, once I get to the plane, the stewardesses will be nice and helpful. At least I hope so. But what if they aren''t?!? Maybe I should get my dad''s assistant to give the airline concierge a call instead. She may have more clout.

GRRR!

That''s some stress I don''t need.

Charming!

I would have said ''Oh, I''m not asking to speak to the manager about my dress - I want to discuss your rudeness!''

If you get on the plane and you are really in a bind because the flight attendant does not let you hang it up, you should just ask someone in first class to hang it up for you. I''m sure they wouldn''t mind.

I''d have your dad''s secy. call and talk to them, or have her call her usual travel agent and have the agent call...Then again, if your dad has so many miles, why dont you just fly business and be done with it? Would make your travel much more relaxing.

I know for us, we were on a 2.5 hour flight to our wedding location and in economy and had no trouble at all pre-boarding and settling our gown and his outfit in an overhead. If you''re nice to the pre-boarding and flight staff, they''re usually more than happy to help with bridal gowns.

My bridal store actually told me NOT to call in advance because they said that you often get answers like that (because technically it is policy and it is their job to simply tell people the policy) but that in their 20+ years of business they have never had a bride refused once they showed up at the airport with their dress.

We flew 4 flight segments for our wedding and had no problems even though the "official" policy is that you can't store things in that closet unless you are in first class.

Just be nice to the person at the counter and explain it is your wedding dress and just politely ask if it is possible and I am SURE they won't mind. On one flight they even put it in their own closet for me because the first class cabin was full.

I don't have anything helpful to add, but I wanted to say good luck!! I'm sure they won't deny you dress storage.

I''d have your dad''s assistant call for you. Although as others say, there probably won''t be a problem when you turn up on the day.

Thanks ladies. I think what I''ll do is show up on the day, but armed with the phone number for the airline concierge. Then if they give me a hassle, I''ll pull out the big guns.

I imagine it will be alright. When I transported my dress for WP2 to the wedding location (which I did already... one less thing to worry about!) the pilots on the short haul leg actually offered to hang it up in the cockpit with them! They joked about trying it on while it was in there.

Surf, you''ve of course put your finger on my preferred solution! But my dad has 6 kids to fly around, and it''s a long flight (lots of miles) so I can''t get too greedy. Which isn''t to say I didn''t try when the assistant first booked the flight for me...

I am always super sugary sweet to people over the phone...until they give me attitude. Then all hell breaks loose! Haha

Luckily FI is sooo charming...even to the rudest people. They end up loving him and doing anything for him...which is hilarious because it was "impossible" 10 minutes ago.
