i know i don''t post often, i''m mostly a lurker (and a show-off when i take pics of my ring), but please help me out!
there was a beautiful before and after picture of someone''s e-ring that they had recently upgraded... they had a simple solitaire RB (i think it was around 0.75C) and they had it re-set with a ring of tiny diamonds all around the RB. the before and after pictures completely astounded me (it literally looked like the center stone GREW about half a carat!) and i wanted to show the fiance, but i CANNOT FIND THE THREAD for the life of me. i''ve done SEVERAL searches and come up with nothing. person with the amazing upgrade, raise your hand and please re-post the before and after pictures!!!

Here''s the picture (treysar''s)

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! my goodness, i thought i was going nuts.

I don''t know I''m very skeptical... I think a lot of it has to do with a different camera distance between the 2 hand shots.

I photoshopped it to make sure.. The actual (photo) size of the center diamond is definitely sizeably bigger in the left shot than in the right shot. Along the lines of 30% just by eyeing it. My guess is that this is photo trickery, not ring trickery.

I''d guess the ring still might look a little bigger, but not quite like the photograph makes it seem...

Nope - no trickery! Both were taken on my scanner - I didn''t even use a camera.

But my hand does look bigger on the left. I wonder why? I know I gained 5 pounds after I got engaged, but hopefully not all in my left hand!!

BTW, the stone is 1.14ct :)

treysar, oh GUSH GUSH GUSH i could gush about your ring transformation all day long!!! i absolutely LOVE what you did. i myself am a traditional solitaire, very classic and simple kind of girl but i swear i gushed about your ring for half an hour straight with my fiance.

may i ask what ring size you are? my center stone is very similar size to yours (1.2C) and i have it in a very simple setting with channel set baguettes (one long one on each side on the band). but i constantly think about changing my setting.. i don''t think i would ever do it because i love my setting plus the wedding band i''ll get in about a year (which will have the same baguettes and sit flush to my e-ring, i love that), and the ideas i have don''t really go with any wedding band. but i''m CONSTANTLY thinking about getting a very very thin pave band, or getting heart shaped prongs, or getting it set a bit higher, pretty much anything to make my center stone stand out more.... ahhh!! this is some sort of sickness, i''m sure... because i always come back to the fact that my ring is perfect for me as it is.

maybe we should all get several rings and switch every day... have you guys heard of that designer bag subscription website, where you pay a monthly fee and "borrow" any bag you want for any amount of time you want? so one month you can have a louis vuitton, then when you get sick of it you return it and get a kate spade, etc... they should have that for diamonds. one month you have a cushion cut... one month princess cut... or just trade out your settings... ahhhhh.............

Yay - I''m so glad you like it1 I''m such a goon, I take pics of it all the time.

My ring size is 7 1/2, so even though I feel that my stone is big, it REALLY helped to set it like this to make it look bigger on my hand.

Just remember one thing - I can''t wear a band with my setting, and you CAN wear a band with a solitaire1 I was a bit of a sacrifice in my opinion, I''ve always wanted a "set" and now I have to wear aband on a separate hand!

WOW! I love the side-by-side comparison. It looks so much bigger. Even when I study it, and I know there are diamonds around the center stone, but the center diamond STILL looks bigger. Beautiful!!!

treysar:

Your''s is one of my all-time favorite rings - and I look at a whole lotta rings! It is stunning!

Treysar: WOW!! I'm getting ready to change my setting from a simple solitare.  i am a little nervous but seeing how beautiful yours turned out gives me hope.  It looks incredible...

*Awesome* re-settng Treysar!! I''ve admired it in your avatar. Who makes your ring? Was it custom?

HI Kayla! My ring is not fully custom, it was pre-made and I had it tweaked. It was originally made to be set with prongs, putting the dimond high up with te pave circle beneath it. I wanted a bezel so I would not smash it on things, (I am Italian and speak "Italian sign language" if you knoww hat I mean.) So I flail my hand a lot. But I also like the way a bezel made the stone look a lot bigger - it really commands more attention then the solitaire did.

I''m in NY and my jewler is in Rockland county, if you want the info let me know.

. The setting was about $1000. Not bad when you consider that it''s 18K white gold, with custom work done on it.

Oh, and thanks Diamonds, for the wonderful compliment!
