I just have to share the most recent addition to my collection! I have wanted to create a special pendant for some time. As many of you know, I am a huge admirer of Victor Canera’s remarkable craftsmanship. Well, several months ago I happened upon this octagonal halo design and fell head over heels in love with it. I did not have a stone in mind for this project, and in conversing back and forth I inquired about the possibility of a European round. Victor concurred that a vintage-inspired stone would complement the design I had chosen perfectly. I trust Victor’s advice and his keen eye for aesthetics, so that made the choice of a CER as the center stone an incredibly easy one!
As always Victor was a complete delight, so gracious, and just a dream to work with (not to mention eternally patient with my plethora of questions!). Victor’s trademark quality and impeccable attention to detail are clearly evident as always… every piece he creates is perfection realized, and this pendant is no exception! The delicate halo of single cut pave, the fine milgrain outline, the ajour back… all amazing. But I have to admit that when I actually saw the pendant in person I literally gasped, as it was even more stunning than I had imagined. The floral pattern and crisp faceting of the CER are breathtaking to behold, and it is truly a fireball! Suffice it to say that I totally understand what all the fuss is about with regard to vintage-inspired cuts now!!
I cannot fully express how grateful I am that I took the plunge with a CER! In the interest of full disclosure, I should add that prior to this I had never seen a vintage cut of any kind in person (although I have ogled quite a few on PS!) and I was slightly skeptical as I have always considered myself a MRB girl. Don’t get me wrong; I still love MRBs, but I have a new adoration for vintage-inspired cuts as the result of this project… so much so that I am pursuing a CAC project next! Victor’s CERs and CACs have an intangible quality that cannot be fully captured by photos. The light return is unbelievable and those scintillating pastels are truly extraordinary. Even the glamour shots pale by comparison to seeing it in person. Taken together, the CER has an entrancing, mystical quality that is difficult to describe. The photos I took clearly do not do this pendant justice, but I hope they will give you some idea all the same!
As you can tell, I am completely smitten with my CER pendant! But in addition, this experience definitely awakened a new love of vintage-inspired stones. So if anyone is considering an antique cushion or European round, have no fear! I may consider switching to a slightly longer chain at some point (I chose a 16-inch chain because that is the length I have always worn, but I am tempted to try an 18-inch for this pendant), but aside from that minor aspect I would not change one thing about this masterpiece. This pendant is a work of art and I feel honored (not to mention giddy!) to wear it!
Here are a few photos. Enjoy! First up, Victor's glamour shot and a few close-up shots:
