Amazing RED Ruby & A Quandary

I haloed my sapphire that was roughly the same dimensions as your ruby:

If I were to do it again, or think about a reset, I would do something like this.

Or perhaps with a double itty bitty double diamond halo.

Classic yet really good presence.

Those are good ideas, too! :appl: I do like that the one your DH made is more unique, though. It has more presence and originality then a regular halo. :appl:

Heh, I'd see if it could just be polished a bit into a cabochon and then set it that way. Or flip it upside-down like it's some kind of rose cut.

I personally would set it in some ridiculous Etruscan-inspired setting in 18k yellow.

Nope, I've decided I'm not touching the stone in any way or TL and Chrono will come and beat me with a stick. :)

Please give me the link to your spinel.

iLander,

There are three threads on my spinel. My search went on forever and and ever and ever! I enlisted help from the Pricescope community from the very beginning when I went looking for a stone and never stopped all through the decision making process! Here is the thread from Show Me The Bling which gives links to other threads for any masochist who wants to look at the other threads!

I'm so glad you're not going to change that gorgeous stone!
Don't be afraid, put a big fat halo on it and call yourself a queen!

Can I put my stick away now? Have you decided on a design?

You and DH are of the same mind on that, but for different reasons.

Nooooo! No more sticks! :o

Haven't decided yet, that is going to take a while! I am leaning toward a solitaire setting on a diamond band, though. Simple and straightforward.

All I know is that it can't have a lot of hardware behind the stone, since you can almost see through it.

You will be happy to know that I sent it off to AGL for the a full report, with origin and treatments. It will just take me longer to save enough for a setting, but I wanted the (as yet unborn) grandkids to have the full paperwork when they go to sell it. Lucky little cusses.

I am happy to know it! I think it is very exciting to have an AGL report on one's colored stone! I can't wait to see yours!

let me be candid here.....and you all know how candid I can be so here it comes:

You Are Absolutely Out Of Your Mind If You Send This Ruby Back!!!!!!!!!

color is king and queen and you've got a ruby that rocks red like red should be rocked.

sparkle is not something I lust for in a ruby..........its that red color that you've got going on in that stone.

treat it like a cab.....I personally love cabs.

yeah, it might be tricky setting it but why rush it? wait until you see something that makes you swoon.

if you just don't love the color, well, send it back.........and i'll forever think you are a crazy Crazy CRAZY woman for letting this one get away.

was that candid enough?! :errrr:

eta: I see while I was typing that you are getting a report! yes Yes YES!

Actually, I think this ruby needs a lot of hardware behind the stone to help "close" the window. LD has done wonders with her bay door stones to the point where you see nothing but their superb colouration. I found the thread but the pictures are mysteriously gone.

Yes, no photos there. LD, are there any photos in another area? Could you repost?

....

I wonder what it would look like suspended slightly over a highly polished backing ... just enough room to clean behind the stone, unlike a foiled stone, almost in the vein of a cupped yellow diamond. If you hold it over, say, a piece of your silver, what effect does it have?

a bridge of highly polished 18k gold beneath the stone.........

Wait . . . I think you are trying to tell me something, Mozo. What could it be? You know, this kind of subtlety is pretty oblique, Mozo. You can't be so shy, just give it to me straight!

    You made me laugh out loud

Well, if it turns out to be as advertised, then I am leaning toward keeping it. I kinda miss it!

I have to say, it's a relief that it's out of the house, though, it's very distracting. :)

Deb, Actually, I hope it is very boring and nothing new (beyond what was advertised) is found. I think Gemline is a great source, so I'm looking forward to boring. ;)

Chrono, I think I would be interested in seeing those pics if LD still has them handy. You have an amazing memory.

Circe, Mozo, When I first got it, I put it on a shiny gold surface and it was pretty amazing. It was like a traffic light.

I am leaning toward the Blake Lively type ring (not that teeny pave, though) with a simple diamond band with the stone hovering on top. But I will probably change my mind 50 times before I finally decide. 8)

Can't you tell from this whole thread that I'm a bit wishy-washy? Not on anything else, just this. I swear. :D

love you, IL! not many would I unloose the "candid cannon" on but you're a woman who can take it and laugh about it! :appl:

here's hoping the report is A+!

This is fabulous, Chrono. Now where can we put this thread (besides in the middle of iLander's thread) so that we can find it again at will? Is there a thread for handy threads? (I can never find my list of threads on whether yellow gold is coming back into style!)

Deb

CS is a slow section of the forum, hence the moderators do not feel it necessary to have many stickies because things just get cluttered. Neither is there a thread for handy threads. I often do a search based on keywords and if I'm lucky, I find them easily.

Greetings everyone,

If you want to start one thread where users can post links to handy threads, that would be fine. The problem is that we literally receive three requests a week to sticky threads, and they are most often different threads. If we stickied them all the entire forum would be stickied. :loopy:

We are working on a folder type solution but until we get there one thread would be fine if you would like.

Ella:

Thanks for your response and explanation. :))

Thanks, Ella. I think a thread on handy threads for the Colored Stones forum sounds good because it could be very flexible (as long as people didn't try to crowd too much into it). That wouldn't solve my problem of where to put my list of threads on gold coming back into style since that doesn't belong in the Colored Stones forum at all. I'm not sure what forum it belongs in! People start those threads in Rocky Talky, Jewelry Pieces, Hangout, and Show Me The Bling! But I guess we can take one issue at a time and think about the topic for a stickied thread in Colored Stones. Handy threads works for me, but I am not the most active poster on this forum. And I am discussing this in the middle of poor iLander's ruby thread!!! Maybe we should start a new thread to gather opinions from active forum posters.

Not to derail any further, just maybe to offer a directed suggestion ... I think the "Jewelry Pieces" forum would make the most sense, since (at least philosophically), that seems like the one most closely focused on *jewelry* and not the gems it's made to house. Perhaps we should take this discussion there?

iLander, that sounds v. promising, and I like Chrono's suggestion! Any dream jewelers you've always wanted to work with? I bet most would be chomping at the bit to work with a beauty like this one ....

A quick threadjack to assist AGBF:
Deb,
A quick way to find threads that you started is to click on "All User's Topics" next to your Avatar to bring up all threads that you've started to quickly and easily threads that you've started in the past. You should be able to find your gold threads within seconds this way, no matter how far back they are.

Thanks, Chrono, but I don't think I ever started one of the threads in which I posted my list. Perhaps one way around the problem is to start a thread now in which I list all the threads...but it seems like starting a thread for no reason. Except now there is a reason for starting such a thread: to stop this threadjack of iLander's thread! On the other hand, maybe with all this talk we will make her ruby thread into the longest colored stone thread ever and she will become a record breaker. :loopy:

   Hey, whatever, I'm easy.

It'll be hard to beat Minoux's genius "Buy This Stone" thread, though.

But I am relieved to say, the ruby is on it's way to AGL (I had a minor heart attack when it disappeared off of USPS tracking ::) -there's a thread in hangout about that! ) and they should have it in the next couple of days.

I filled out their online form asking them to call me when they receive it, so we'll see how it goes.
