If anyone is following my story, earlier this month I was confused about ACA vs CBI. And I was checking on a 2.88 J which doesn’t work for me. So my WF SA was working hard to find a suitable diamond for me. I was thinking on deciding the vendor first and wait til they get more inventory and upgrade it later. So last week I decided to get a H Si1 but the inclusion keep bothering me the whole weekend and I thought eventho its something temporary I still need to love it. It still need to be good. So on Monday morning I contacted my SA, a new stone came up later that day and its way better than my original pick, so I ended up getting a 2.61 H VS1 for now and getting an upgrade of 3ct H VS2 once I found something that I like.

But, this whole time I was thinking of VC Emilya setting, I love it so much. I was looking for another similar option but I still like the original Emilya from VC and their price for a halo is good too. And earlier this morning a VC SA contacted me and asking me to give them a chance and take a look their stone first. I’m thinking both are comparable, I’m extremely confused, should I go with VC or WF? And I kinda feel bad to WF SA that has been wonderful to me. They sent me ring twice, the 2.88 J (I said its ok to just get me a spring ring but they set it in a ring) and they’ll send me 2.61 H tomorrow that I thought I will absolutely go with them for sure 100%. But now I’m being indecisive again, thinking it would cost less for me if I go with VC if I want Emilya setting... but I also think, which vendor will have a better cut diamond.... the most difficult part is both doesn’t have my final stone 3ct H VS2/Si1 so I can’t compare apple to apple and even they both have it in stock I still can’t compare them side by side. with WF I need to wait until its available and VC side said they can make one for me and it’ll be ready in couple weeks.
If I get an ACA now, it costs me $330 for the ring that I won’t be using later because I absolutely will get Halo ring.
With VC on top of that $330 I can get 10% disc on the setting.
Help me to find some light ladies...

If you are going to upgrade the diamond, the VC halo would need to be redone to accommodate the larger diamond (likely the entire setting but perhaps only the halo/basket portion) ... but if you definitely want the VC setting, then I do agree you should go with a VC diamond now, and then upgrade the diamond with VC ... and do find out from VC about whether the same halo setting could accommodate your now diamond and your future upgrade diamond.

If I go with VC I won’t be upgrading and go straight with 3ct H cut to order diamond.

with WF I need to upgrade because they don’t have 3ct H that I like

If you know you want the Emylia anyway eventually AND can afford a cut to order with VC that gets you the size you want now, I'd go that route 100%

It sounds like your heart is with the VC. And it makes sense too - the stone you want plus the setting you want, for a price that is manageable - what's not to like?

Don't feel bad about the lovely SA - write a letter of thanks to them cc'd to the boss/CEO, leave good reviews and keep them in mind for future purchases. This is too big a purchase to not get what you really want because you feel obligated to someone.

It sounds to me you know your choice. I know it can be tough when an SA was wonderful to deal with, but you can get something else from WF at a later date.

Big vote for Victor! His work is amazing and he picks really beautiful diamonds! I should also say that I was working with WF and had bought a stone from HPD. You need to pick what is the best for YOU. I also was working with DK for the setting, but ended up going with Victor.

I would absolutely send your Whiteflash SA a big thank you email, but go with your heart. Are you local to Los Angeles? You should really see Victor’s diamonds and if he is going to cut one for you— wowsa! He only uses one cutter and the cutter is beyond amazing. Victor will walk you through the process of how he selects his diamonds- I don’t recall everything. Go with your gut and buy what YOU want.

There is a big BUT in all of this, if its an in house stone that I can pick I would go with VC. But, its a cut to order, I guess all of you can relate, we kind of know what we want and don’t want in our diamond. For me personally, I do not want my diamond to have depth >61.5 and I want a really good VS2. While searching a diamond for my SILs I even open the certificate one by one just to make sure I don’t want more than 1 dots, and all 3 of our VS2 have exactly only 1 small little dot. With in house diamond I can see before hand how the inclusion is and we can pick which kind of inclusion we feel comfortable with.
with this purchase I don’t expect to get only 1 dot but there are certain inclusion that I do not want. With cut to order ai don’t know if its possible to make such detailed requests

I think that is the risk with a cut to order diamond. You can't dictate the type of inclusions - only that it will grade a VS2 or better if that is what you agree to pay for. You also can't request certain stats like crown, depth, etc. because it depends on the rough they cut it from so they couldn't guarantee those even if they wanted to.

I would not want to pay for two Emilya settings so if your heart is set on a three carat diamond, maybe it would be best to wait and see what becomes available from him.

@MissGotRocks thats what makes me cannot to jump to VC right away. I don’t like having the uncertainty of cut to order stone. While I think I can like this 2.613 H VS1 with temp ring and I get Emilya from VC later on when I found the one (if they allows me to) it’ll cost more (about extra $1000 maybe) I guess thats the price I need to pay if I go with WF. And I don’t want to get a temp stone that I don’t like, with the diamond option VC and WF have right now I think I’ll like the ACA that I’m getting more than what VC have at this time. Waiting VC to have a diamond that match my criteria is a long game, their in house inventory is not as much as I would like it to be.
With the recent reviews of PSers thats not satisfied with WF bench I don’t know if I want to ask them to make a custom halo for me.
PS. I like higher crown angle

Most of Victor's stones have 61.9 depth and most of his stones (and others as well) have inclusions on the table with VS2 clarity. I know because like you, I like a certain depth and prefer no inclusions on the table or at the most, minuscule ones). Likewise, I was deciding between VC to cut-to-order my stone and CBI. Around the same time (lucky for me), CBI got a perfect VS2 stone and size I was wanting. If I were you, I would wait for the stone to show up on VC site. If instant gratification is at play, buy a stone of a desired size, color, and clarity elsewhere, and have DK do a halo setting (he can do just about any).

Victor said because he oversees the diamond cutting process himself, he promised it’ll be to my preference. As the VS2 on their sites looking good for me, I kind of agree with him but I emailed him outside working hours. But now I can’t sleep, I’m still thinking that I want to have a full control of what I’m buying. I believe his expertise, but not having control of what I’m getting kind of hard for me. I’m not that control freak I think but not having to control what I’m getting give me anxiety at this case. I was kinda OK with the idea getting VC h&a with Victor’s promise but now I don’t know if I can let go that control and thinking maybe I should get an ACA with having DK setting.
I think the last time I’m using my brain this much was 10yrs ago at least

Wish I can order a stone with my dream specs but sadly it isn't as easy as you think. I would love to own a 54.5% table with a15.6% crown at 61.8% depth.

So, I am still going through this process myself, and one thing is for sure. Seeing the actual diamond can change your mind, regardless of whatever dots or types of inclusions, blah blah blah. You know yourself well enough to know you are a control freak. That's good. You won't be able to change that so going with a custom cut is a huge risk. If you are willing to take it, go for it. If not, wait till you find one already cut, regardless of the vendor. Prioritize the stone. Then you won't have regrets about this, because you already said you require specific things. If Victor is still willing to set your stone in an Emilya setting, even if purchased from WF, count yourself lucky. Suck it up and pay the extra $1000. (I would pay an extra $1,000 and Victor won't even set my stone. I don't take it personally, it's his business model for certain settings.) Even trying to replicate that by any other vendor is a disappointment waiting to happen. Not that other vendors could not make a beautiful halo, but it will not be the halo you want. You're picky. You want VC quality, and that's ok. Own it. Pay the extra $1,000. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I think down deep you know it. I'm just here to tell you. You're already spending a sh!t ton on the diamond. Stay focused on the final goal, a diamond you love in an Emilya setting. You're lucky there is a path there. Don't get sidetracked by trying to save the minor (in comparison to the big picture) extra cost that is required to get you there.

Stay focused on the big picture. Don't let $330 here and $1000 there sidetrack you when you know what you want. Given your situation, I don't see any other way to get exactly what you want.

And I am sure you know this already, all bets are off when you see the stone. You may discover you love how it looks, regardless of whatever dots or lines or whatever are on the plot. This is how it went with the stones I've tried in order of purchase.

WF ACA F - returned
CBI E - returned
CBI D - returned
WF ACA H - returned
WF ACA - I think this might be a winner. Still in testing phase.

It depends on the stone and whether it speaks to you. I know you're all about the measurements and inclusions, but truly, look at it and decide based on what your eyes tell you.

@LLJsmom , thank you for sharing your experience. It is so helpful to me. I am in the process of evaluating a stone. I feel so indecisive. Being on PS with all the glowing praise for HPD cbis had me questioning whether I had made a mistake by not going with them. Not that they don't deserve the praise, but it is nice to hear the perspective that it is more about the individual stone than the brand name that matters most. One can get the impression that cbi is the only holy grail and nothing compares when reading PS. Your experience and perspective is refreshing. I hope you have found your one and only with this next stone!

Is your latest contender a WF ACA I Color? (: So excited to hear your thoughts on it!

What is the color of the one you are testing out currently? I was surprised to see you tried an H after the D, E, and F.

@LLJsmom thank you!!!! You’re right, I need to be patient.... now I’m thinking should I just cancel the 2.61 and just wait for the 3ct whichever came up? Or should I see it first and if I love it I keep it and wait for a 3ct WF that I love, but it’ll make me tied up to WF.

Remind me if I mistaken, I thought you want D color? Even E have some tint in your eyes? How could that change to an I color?

Edit: for the inclusion, I just don’t like a cloud in the table, I don’t mind with anything else, since it’ll be eyeclean and I can’t see it anyway. I think it effecting the performance

You are more easygoing than me when it comes to inclusions. - that will make it easier for you to get VS2. For my mind clean set, I need almost no inclusions on the table - if they are any, they'd better be around edges of the table and insignificant. Otherwise, I will see them with my mind that will convince my eyes to see them as well.

If I were you, I would wait to get the 3ct.

I would 100% wait. Do not settle.

I would just let Victor Canera know your exact requirements as laid out here, and wait for him to get in touch when he has a stone matching that description in stock.

Then sit tight :)

Yea.... that will make it even harder lol. As long as I don’t see anything blocking any light performance I’m ok with Si1 too but to be safe I’ll just get VS2. I think the one that can’t trick my eye is the sparkle.
My DH just reminded me today, I might love my ering diamond because its a D with super ideal cut.
Before he said that, I was thinking of canceling my WF 2.61 H and now I need to take a look of this 2.61 H ACA and try it out for couple weeks and figure out, what is it that I am looking? Is it really just Cut & Carat? Or is it actually Cut & Color? If its the later, then I need to go smaller and get a D/E. I have my ering for almost 9yrs, but it really never failed to amaze me, eventho its not big, but it’s really pretty, am I really just looking for a big stone? Or maybe size doesn’t really matter for me as long as it WOWed me?

I hear you because I love everything about my stone except the size. If I were to upgrade, I would need to see the new stone side by side with my current one to make sure that I am not giving up "better" for the sake of the size - makes sense? I do not want to have any regrets: having bigger stone but might not be as clear, white...etc. I am not even sure if The Perfect Stone exists. Mine would be if only wanted to grow a bit.

Is it possible for your to try 3ct (for the sake of size) and the 2.61 ACA and compare (not the quality but size) at the same time? Or visit your jewelry store and try on different stones (perhaps not the best cuts but just to test out the color and size you find the most comfortable).

I also recently bought and returned a HPD stone. It was nice, but it wasn’t my stone. I just bought a diamond from Victor Canera. My journey to my upgrade has been riddled with costly mistakes, but I hope to finally be happy soon! My journey (all of this in past 8 months):

1. Had my original 1.24 carat diamond set in new setting. This did not work and I realized a wanted a new stone. I had to sell this setting at a HUGE loss.

2. Bought a new 1.8 carat diamond (from a vendor without an upgrade policy- (oops) and designed (myself )(big oops) a new setting. Spent a crap ton of money on the setting and ultimately, it turned out bad.

3. sold the 1.8 carat diamond. It was a very nice diamond, but I realized I wasn’t a halo person, so I wanted a bigger stone.

4. Had a sapphire set in the setting mentioned in #2. I spent so much on the setting (it has a lot of metal work etc, so it was crazy expensive), that I am going to keep it as a RHR. David Klass sourced the sapphire and completed the ring.

5. Had my original 1.24 carat diamond recut and set back in my original engagement ring. Really good decision here-SingleStone did the recut.

6. bought and returned a CBI 2.12 H, VS1.

7. Looked forever at stones with David Klass and had Amy make CADs that were inspired by Victor Canera Designs. I was super happy with the design at the point- but I still needed a stone.

8. Went to Victor Canera, intending just to look at stones. Bought a stone, 2.234 G, VS1. Was still intending to have David Klass set the Victor Canera stone

9. Posted my story here and PSers recommended that I consider having VC set his stone. I contacted DK and made sure this was ok and that I wasn’t burning any bridges, since he had spent a lot of time with CADs. Fell in love with VC designs and VC himself— he is a gem. Why try to mimic a VC design when I can have the real thing.

10. Now, Victor Canera is making the ring and it should be done any day now. I spoke to Victor yesterday and it may be done tomorrow.

11. Haven’t even started on revising the band yet.

For me, it has been a long and very VERY VERY expensive process. But, I try not to think about the wasted funds and focus on the fact that in just a few days I will have a VC ring and diamond. I’m so thrilled that I now know David Klass, Ari at SingleStone and Victor Canera. It took me a long time, but I’m on the right track now.

In May, when I started this journey, I expected to sell my original Engagement ring and band. So, I expected to end up with 2 new rings. I now have 5–my original set (which I am super happy that I kept for sentimental reasons), the RHR and the new ER being made by VC and eventually a new band.

Exactly!!!!!! I came to this realization just today!!!! 2weeks ago I tried 9.2mm, its big but i don’t feel anything than “big”, its was like “ok its big” and I realized now that maybe its not what I’m looking for.
So for now I just need to wait for my ACA to come tomorrow to see if I’m ok with H color or I need to get smaller D/E diamond. I really really hope I’m ok with H, I’ll be doomed if I need to stick with only D/E but if it is the case then, I have a longggg way to go, definitely can not afford 3ct D until maybe all my toddler daughters graduate from college lol

hope WF doesn’t mess up with shipment date again, if they delay me 1 more time, seriously... once is more than enough.

Wowwwwww.... that is one long time, energy and money consuming journey!!! Its been only a month for me but I feel like its too much glad this journey has end with a beautiful happy ending for you, hopefully I’ll get my happy ending soon!!!! My DH and my mom can’t take my story about this journey any longer... my DH: “It is just a stone” while he is the one who set my bar with a beautiful D ACA and now I want something like that but bigger, way bigger!
And my mom said: “why you’re thinking too much? Its just a toy?” :eek2: Me: “it is one Extremely expensive toy!!!!!”o_O

For me, I wasn’t ok with a H. However, I was perfectly fine with a G. I think the H diamond that I tried was a low H- who knows— but it was definitely “warm”. When I went to compare a G to F, my eyes could not see a difference. Maybe if the H doesn’t work for you, a G will. There is a price difference, but not like going from a H to D.

My hubby stepped out after the first setting. Now, when I tell him I’m going to downtown LA, he rolls his eyes! He doesn’t even ask about it anymore. He makes quick decisions and never second guesses anything- I am the exact opposite

You are welcome @Mlh. CBI does cut beautiful, stunning diamonds. And I think many many people are truly ecstatic over their CBIs. I just had to make the most honest decision for myself. I was spending so much money, and it just had to tick all the boxes. I won't get too much into my decision making process here as I am derailing @munchee 's thread enough. I will discuss further on my CBI thread if you are interested.
