As part of my learning process, I wanted to share this ring with you and get opinions on the emerald base on pictures.

I was told that the this is what the emerald industry considers as top color/quality, but I prefer the honest words of PSer's over jewelers.

Said it's certed but I haven't ask to see it.

There is a recommended vendor for emeralds by other Psers https://www.instagram.com/muzoemeralds/ They categorize the colour of their emeralds. I remember on their IG they said the top colour is duck neck green.

Yes, I am following them and read about the duck neck green...question is, is the emerald above belongs to that category?

I keep using this from an old PS post as my cheat sheet. :lol-2:

They actually show a photo of a duck neck green stone. This one I don't think it is the same colour.

The top quality also has a honey or oil effect which I have not yet observed in real life.

Which one would you consider it as duck neck on the chart? Is it 1 of the 3 on the right side of the Emerald Hue row? Please advise.

I just re-read your comment, when you said "They actually show a photo of a duck neck green stone..." are you referring to the chart or the muzoemeralds on IG?

Based on the photo on IG, I think IBG is the closest.

It’s a beautiful emerald. I’d go with blueish green /;strong blueish green.
Emeralds are tricky, most prefer the blue/ green to the yellow/ green modifier but “pure green no obvious modifier” is apparently the best of the best. I personally think Zambia emeralds are more a pure green than the Columbian that have a blue modifier but there’s just something “extra” about a good Columbian that a Brazilian emerald can’t match. More glow.
It’s also subjective, I personally prefer the medium tone blue green. I don’t like too dark.
Back to the ring, given the sizesbke diamond sides I presume we are talking big $$$$ here, you want a proper lab report that says “no oil / minor oil residue” it’s a rare emerald that’s not oiled to some degree. It’s “fillers or residue” you don’t want!

I probably wouldn’t buy an expensivr emerald without its lab report, preferably AGL.

Color isn’t the only aspect to an emerald’s quality. Some Muzo material has specific inclusions that make the stone look extra satiny. This is highly desired. African stones do not have this. They tend to be more crystal.

I assume that you won't say that the emerald ring has that extra satiny quality, right?

RedFan,
It’s impossible to properly judge emeralds from photos.

Thanks Bron357!

I also prefer it to be medium to intense, not too dark.

Yep, it's $$$ and way out of my reach. Said to be Columbian. I didn't push to see the cert since I wasn't serious about buying the ring. The smaller one on the top tray is Zambian. Somehow the Columbian one is slightly more blue.

This is embarrassing, just saw loads of spelling typo on my posts. :oops2:
