in light of all the questions about showers and gifts i thought i''d add one to the pool.

my cousin is getting married and her shower is on Saturday. Her registry is sort of pricey, with the exception of some smaller items in the 8-10 dollar range. i already have a yankee candle ("wedding day" scent) to give to her which wasn''t on the registry, but i want to add something else.

i really can''t afford to get her anything substantial off of the registry, but i don'' want to just wrap up two wooden spoons to put in there either. i was thinking about compiling a cookbook or something else sort of homemade to give her along with the candle, but i don''t want to seem cheap. but i feel like it would look pretty cheap giving a candle and a measuring cup.

which do you think is the better option? help me fellow brides!

i love a homemade gift! for my future sister-in-law, who will be married May of this year, i am making a cross stitch wall hanging. it only cost me $19.99 plus my time, and then i will be getting it framed which will be additional. i know that she will love it, as a person who appreciates crafty gifts. something from the heart is always ALWAYS more meaningful. your cousin could go out and buy a toaster or an iron, but only YOU can use your creativity to give her a truly unique and special gift. personally, i would choose a homemade gift over something store-bought every time.

good luck!

I think the recipe book sounds great...
At my friend''s shower the hostess sent out 4x6 recipe cards to all the guests and had them write out their favorite recipe for the new bride.
You could do something similar by putting in some of your favorites, and if there are any family favorites that you think she would like to have.
Maybe email other family members to see if they have any to contribute too.

I just bought a super cute recipe organizer at Borders for about $20. The cover is an image of a "1950''s housewive" baking a pie. But there are tons of those books out there.
Then, if it were me, I would buy 2 wooden spoons and add tie them to the wrapping with a big bow.

It would be personal, usefull and unique!

thanks for your input girls! and that other thread inspired me to maybe consider sewing her an apron as a little add on (although i''ll have to run this by her sister...i''m not sure how into the kitchen she is!)

I like the idea of something homemade! Here's something else to consider if you're looking for other ideas.

This would work if your cousin celebrates Christmas, but one thing that I like to give occasionally are Christmas ornaments or tree topper angels. When I've given ornaments, I've looked for ones that are meaningful, like ones with a pretty scene and/or the year them. You could put together a pretty box or basket with the ornaments in it and it wouldn't need to cost a fortune.

Just something else to think about...
