I’ve been wanting an emerald and opal ring for awhile as they are my boys’ birthstones. But a lot of them are too large for my tastes or in yellow gold. This one is perfect! Excuse my gross dry hands. I need to take better pics later

Thank you so much! I’m super happy with it. The color play is awesome. I’m not usually a fan of marquis cuts but I think it works here to keep it for looking too big on my finger. So thrilled to finally have my mother’s ring!

A couple lightning ridge opal rings. The pear just came today. I call the other one my jellyfish opal! The last one is a boulder opal that I have posted before.20181002_131513_HDR.jpg20181002_122049_HDR.jpg20181002_112537_HDR.jpg 20181002_112452_HDR.jpg20181002_110625_HDR.jpg

Adding my 2 latest photos of my Cartier Black Opal ring. This time with a new friend...a rose gold pink diamond band from Leibish and Co.

As always, photos do not do this ring justice. But I do the best I can.

That opal is just unreal, its such a dream! Keep that baby safe! I think if it ever chipped or broke youd have hundreds of PSers crying haha

Missy I know I have said it a billion times, but I NEVER tire of seeing that opal ring! That has to be the most glorious opal I have seen...especially in photo only. It is so hard to capture colors in opals. Plus I love the setting.

Also wearing today my dream SS boulder opal ring, I love pinky boulders!
This one has patches that resemble thick cuts of glitter!
She's a big gal

My one of a kind custom 10k whote gold 10x8mm ethiopian opal ring. SHows all the colors but hard to capture just in photos.

Thank you @TheGarnetGirl! That is no easy feat from this Klutz let me tell you but I am ever so careful with her. A special occasion ring for me only but I do enjoy looking at her often. I understand the collection desire now. Just enjoying her beauty even without wearing her.

Posting for fun, I’ve been looking at opals recently, from expensive to inexpensive. It’s wonderful how much beauty there is in every stone, across the price range. It’s overwhelming. I came across these two very affordable ones. I love the grey one because it reminds me of magic, glittery waves meeting a sandy shore. It looks so much like a fish skin! What creative porential this one has...
And this extremely dark with just blue captivated me so much. I really love the extremely dark ones with only blue. I think those are my favorites. I am reminded of an abyss. So much a feeling of discovery in the dark!

Those opals look unreal...very amazing! I’m on the hunt now for a super, ultra black black black with only blue ( no green, maybe a little deep purple) in an elongated oval form. I’ve been kind of looking for a while, like 20 years lol, but now I’m more focused on it! I’m getting obsessed...like the most extreme example of that variety which I can find.

How gorgeous! I just love the shape!

My new-to-me Victorian beauty:

Oh it’s so very elegant and beautiful! I can almost see the beautiful silk gowns that would have been worn with it.

I bought two black opal stones with good color saturation. Bought many disappointing opals that are duds in person with glamour photo shots, and I've decided I really don't like any transparent or semi-transparent opals.

Oh those are nothing like the semi-clear duds I'm talking about. Uploading pics of one of my duds.
Admittedly they can look quite nice under the sun when they catch ideal light, but they mostly look like frosty plastic blobs in person, not worth setting one for a jewelry.

I should probably take back what I said about semi-clear opals. I put these away because I was disappointed when I initially received the stones, but the more I look at them they're growing on me and they have reddish orange fires all around and deeper greenish ocean blues in person that I can't capture through photos for the life of me.
Opals are definitely like chameleons.

These earrings are super pretty. Love the settings and the opals are lovely. Opals really are chameleons. They like to show off but at times they are sweet and demure. And other times wow watch out with the color play and fire...they love to tease and take our breath away. I find when we wear them they "warm up" and get even more beautiful. And I agree they are challenging to photograph and it is difficult to show their true beauty in mere photos. If I were you I would wear and enjoy these beauties. Love them...any way we could get an ear pic?

This is exactly why I will not buy Ethiopian opals. Have a couple like that which looked great on a black background, but show skin in real life.

Here they are @missy
I suck at ear shots and again I can't capture how they look in person, but I did what I could, including a few fuzzy pics that seem to show a little more of the fire colors but nowhere as intense.
But they also tend to look pretty washed out in most well lit indoor light, so that's why I was not happy with them. I discovered last night that they look the best under somewhat dimmer lighting where the opals look more saturated and deeper in color.
