coatimundi, I am going to say you have guessed close enough. #1 while not a rhodolite it is a garnet and #4 is a beryl.

That''s a very unusual garnet - pinkish.

That is incredible pale and pastel for a garnet, plus an unusual color. Are you sure your seller identified it correctly? It is very easy to check with a refractometer, and a polariscope.

I received this stone from a gemologist friend who also did the faceting. As I rember he got the rough from Pretty rock. It was sold to him as being from the Umba river valley. I aquired this stone in a trade. While I have never tested it I have no reason to doubt my friends claim.


Jewelerman, I will look around and see if I can find some stones I have not posted yet for another round.

I talked to my friend I received the garnet from. Instead of coming from Pretty rock the rough came from John Garso. RI is 1.76 and it is SR

Then you have a very rare garnet. My avatar picture was a garnet cut from a crystal from John.
