Hi all! I found an emerald cut aquamarine that I love! However I envisioned in in a delicate halo setting, or a very plain setting and set low. What I didn’t realize was that the depth of the beautiful stone (6.9mm) can only be set as low as its depth so I have it in a plain setting dropped as low as possible. For me it is still too high. Is it possible for a jeweler to cut its depth? Will this ruin the stone and its brilliance. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome!image.jpgimage.jpg

Looking at your ring, I believe it is possible to lower the profile, however it would involve a new ring setting to be made.

Whether it is worth the effort, only you can decide.

This is my own 6ct+ Aqua ring with step cut Morganite traps. It is not very clear, however, it is as low as it could be set, in that the bottom of the ? galleries are exposed without a bridge, and the shank are extensions from the sides.

The Aqua is set high enough so that its culet does not touch the finger.

I believe you can lower your ring by having the Aqua set in a similar design. However, you could lose the curves in the setting that I find very attractive.

My advice would be to wear it as often as you could so as to adjust to its height. It is a very nice cocktail ring IMHO, however, probably not for every day wear due to its size and height. Enjoy it as it is for all its glory I'd say.

Here is the top view of my ring to show its size and finger coverage of my Size 11.5 US fleshy middle finger (apologies for the smudges).

I didn't see those stone colors together before your ring was finished, DK. But it really is luscious. Love it!

Thanks for that picture and I can see how that build makes it look a bit lower profile. It’s a beautiful ring and looks so nice on your hand!! I went to my local jeweler who suggested a split shank style and he showed me an example of one with a giant stone but same height as mine and it really looked much better visually. So he’s doing some eomputer images for me but I think it will really make a difference ! He said don’t mess with the stone because it’s bery nice :) sometimes it’s about getting the right person to help you. :) I will post a picture for you here when it’s done! It’s another expense but it’s better than not wearing what I have . I been thinking of this aquamarine ring for a while and finally got the right stone so I am going to bite the bullet and do another setting!
