I can post a youtube video of the cabochon if that is allowed on this forum?

It’s too “pink” to classify as ruby in my opinion.
It’s hard to tell from a photo is those inclusions are natural or a treatment on a flame fusion synthetic. These days rubies can be glass filled, a fake and dyed quartz like material or man made corundum that has been purposefully altered (quenched to cause veil like inclusions) to make it look more natural.
In any event, the level of inclusions is very high so it’s a lower quality gemstone.

here is a video of it:

thanks for comment, I now that the distinction between ruby and sapphire is imp for many, but I should have asked is this corundum or not corundum, and quality wise I know low quality. I just want to make sure it is corundum

What you have there is a cherry Jelly Belly.

Seriously though - you'd need to send it to AGL to know for sure.Might not be worth the cost though imo.

I'll be upfront; I can't judge by pictures on the type of material it MIGHT be, because I'm not that good.

But if you're buying it for something cheap and pretty (and if its in fact cheap) don't worry much about it, set it something inexpensive and enjoy.

IMO if you have any type of concern you're being a ruby, then you're going to have to go to a qualified lab and have a report done. It might not be worth it for some, but I've sent of cheaper stones before to satisfy my curiousity. IMO it was money well spent. I figure I spent less on that report than on stupid crap at Home Depot:lol:

I am fine with educated guesses

it's a type of jade.

Honestly its got a lot of matrix mixed in which IMO sways my thinking over to pinkish red sapphire. As a sapphire it will be a cheaper stone. As a ruby you pay more. whatever you decide it is, just don't pay a lot for it.
