Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Trumps use of the term “China virus” is seriously irking me. I’m Chinese. Im a doctor. Please stop making it harder for me to do my job.

I have definitely noticed people looking and scowling at me more. If I get assaulted and can’t go to work due to other humans being horrible I will be so so mad.

I think you are a hero going to work every day at the ER. I am so sorry to hear that people are giving you looks and scowling at you. That is very upsetting! Please stay safe and healthy.

I was enraged throughout his press conference today. He took every opportunity to smirk and repeat that it was the China virus. (I guess like W, he is The Decider.) Even his pronunciation of the word "China" sets my teeth on edge. Imbecile.

Good news indeed if production of medical supplies is really ramped up!

I think I have the virus. Tonight at around 7 PM I started to feel odd in the chest. I immediately typed up a list of the medications I am on because the computer I used for years was destroyed by malware and I wanted to be able to give the list of my meds to anyone if I was too sick to reproduce it.

In the past few days I have been doing laundry and sanitizing as much as possible every day as if I knew I might fall apart. But maybe that's just part of the same panic that drives us to hoard. We try to get ready before it hits.

I may just be having a hysterical reaction. All I do all day is read about and watch television about the coronavirus. But at least I'm doing what needs to be done here in case I have it.

I'm sorry you are feeling sick and I am really hoping it is not the virus. Is it possible to give yourself a mental break from the news all day tomorrow?

Prayers outgoing @TooPatient
One of my x clients runs a plastic molding company, I heard he volunteered to produce anything medical they get him blueprints for at cost.
They told him it would take 18 to 24 months for him to be certified to produce anything medical.

DH just got tested. Having more difficulty breathing and the regular Dr can't see him because of the symptoms plus the probable exposure. A negative test would mean he could see his regular Dr if the problem keeps going to treat him for pneumonia or whatever this is if it turns out the test is negative. Given everything, he had the choice to do drive through testing and stay home (as long as able to breathe okay enough) or get triaged in emergency and likely sent to isolation floor (which would guarantee exposure) until results came back.

We'll know results in 3-5 days. Quarantine at home until then. I'm hoping it is negative and just a bacterial pneumonia or something. Also hoping he does okay enough until he can see his Dr that we don't have to go to emergency!

Oh, no! Sending healing thoughts and dust......

Things are ramping up here in my city: all schools, gyms, libraries, daycares, and many many stores, restaurants closed. All schools, colleges, universities out indefinitely. Social distancing everywhere. The streets are quiet in the am, no rush hour. It's like a bad dream. People stockpiled the past week, and we could get food but toilet paper and all disinfectant cleaners are out. Hopefully that slows.
My son is in grade 12, and he'll graduate, just not the way we envisioned. The uni son has gotten a grade for classes that ended 3 weeks early. I want my old life back.

I'm saddened and terrified at what irreparable damage this will leave long after we survive this pandemic. Absolutely terrified.

And I'll be cutting my husband's hair for the first time in our 19 years of married life! He just ordered up a kit and said I was going to have a new title. I told him I have already assumed the role of homeschool teacher, and he said well now you are going to be a hairdresser.

you are very trusted not like me
before Gary retired he had a number 2 or shorter because being a builder is hot sweaty work - he just gave himself a buzz cut and i was allowed to trim the back straight
but now he has retired and when he got sick and lost weight he got cold
so he has a mullet !
no way i would be trusted with that
he actually goes to a barber again for the first time in many years

oh dear i do worry how all the old chaps will get on now :(2

That is insane! They should be taking every bit of help they can get in this! I hope someone decides to change that requirement, at least temporarily.

@TooPatient sending thoughts and prayers that it's negative xo

Healing dust to you and your DH @TooPatient. Hopefully his test is negative, take care!

hi Deb, hope you are just tired and feel better soon. Please give yourself a break and try not to listen or watch the news. Put some music on and dance like no one is watching, be well xo

I completely share your frustrations and concerns. Do you have pepper spray? I bought the Sabre 3-in-1 for each of my parents and me. Better than nothing! I won’t leave home without it now.

It’s 5am here and I’ve been awake and thinking/worrying for ages. I’m really pleased that it seems to have been fairly mild in my eldest child - he was feeling much better last night after having a very high temperature since Monday. The temp was well controlled by paracetamol, which is a relief at least. He developed a cough a day after the temperature started but it’s not too bad and his chest isn’t hurting with it. He was looking and feeling much better, temperature-wise, yesterday evening.

My youngest started a temperature last night, so presumably now has it and will hopefully also experience a mild version. Hubby and I both feeling fine so far but, if this is corona, then we’re guaranteed to get it as we’re all locked in the house together - government advice is to isolate each ill person in separate rooms as far as possible, leave meals at the door etc, but there’s no way as a mother I could consider leaving my children without comfort when they’re ill so we haven’t done that within the house. I really hope hubby and I don’t get it at the same time so looking after the kids is manageable, although worst case the eldest could manage pasta, sandwiches and easy oven food for them under instruction.

I still have a slight niggle that this isn’t corona. My son’s friend came back from skiing after the school half-term holiday in February, not from a country with cases publicised at that time, and the whole family had dreadful coughs and temperatures. When my son first got ill I was half assuming he’d caught what they had rather than corona. Or maybe cases were circulating in countries for a while before anyone realised and that’s what they had? Who knows. Fingers crossed that our youngest also has a mild illness, whatever illness it is.

Like your son’s, my graduation was screwed up as well. The university closed due to Vietnam War protests and violence.
I hope he gets a big graduation party with his friends when all this is over!

Who's THEY? the feds? the state? the town? we are so disjointed in this country, with a lack of leadership they could be anyone. Again, who's THEY?

@Phoenix Keep an eye on the BBC at 5pm. My feeling is more measures will be put in place. Are you ok? ((hugs))

Looks like London is gonna go on total lockdown (?).

I'm ok, thanks. Hope you and everyone else are ok too. x

@TooPatient sending you all bucketloads of good luck dust and hoping your DH remains negative for the virus but if he does test positive that he recovers fully and without complications and that you remain well. (((HUGS))). I will text you later because it is too early by you now. I am keeping good thoughts for all of you.

I have a final exam in the morning (online, thank goodness!) so I won't be getting much sleep tonight. The next night, I will make up for it!

Good luck with your final exam!

Oh no @AGBF sending you lots of healing vibes and well wishes...hoping it isn't Covid-19 and that it is something more innocuous but no matter what it is wishing you a complete and easy recovery. (((HUGS))) and lots of *******DUST********.

All non emergency/elective surgeries cancelled for a month.

Everything has been canceled here too...I think it will be canceled/postponed for months and months.

Yesterday I had to go to NJ to get a toenail removal (again) and we stopped by Costco there to pick up cat food for our NJ ferals. Well surprise to us they are limiting the cat food (to one bag) we can buy. OMG. We feed 20-30 feral cats in NJ and now we cannot get enough cat food :(

I am against hoarding under all circumstances but what about those of us who are feeding lots and lots of cats? We cannot leave them to die. We always buy lots of dry cat food for the ferals since our automated feeder holds 40 lbs and we cannot get to the beach house every few days. Especially if we get a shelter in place order here and then I do not have any idea what will happen to my ferals. :(

And no neighbor is going to help our ferals out at this time so I know enough not to ask. It's us or nobody and I am so worried for the cats.
