Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Yes. The virus travels much further than 6 feet. You’re smart to stay inside! How’s your DH today?

I just woke him up. Wanted him to get a good long night of sleep. He was comfortable and 96% every time I checked. He says he had a rough night as he kept slipping from his propped position and was uncomfortable (muscle aches from funny position). He is tired so had some water and is back in bed trying to sleep more.

He seemed less generally out of it yesterday but had a couple of exhausted to point of just falling asleep sitting on the couch moments. I figure this is normal for any illness so not too worried about that. Oxygen dipped to 93% once but mostly sat at 95-97% which is almost normal for him!

I'm very scared.
Talked to my lung doc's nurse he strongly recommended going to the ER based on my o2 levels being unstable at 5l o2.
But then said your not going to go right? .. i was like ummmm....
He said he called in a z-pack for me as it was all he could do and if I got worse or decide to get treatment to go to the ER.
I took it as a a very scary mixed message.
Im going to continue at home and see how it goes for now.

You should definitely go!

@Karl_K I am sorry, please take care!

@Karl_K is it possible to get a second opinion?

Karl, I’m so sorry. Is there another doctor you can call for an opinion?

It isn't so clear cut! With so many people positive for COVID-19, it is pretty common to have someone come in with issues that are very different (like car accident) only to find they are asymptomatic but positive. Some hospitals are assuming all breathing issues are COVID-19 so putting all patients in the same area as presumed positive or waiting for test to rule it out. That makes it very likely that you will be exposed to COVID-19 if you go into the ER. If you have a lung condition to begin with, your chances at surviving COVID-19 are very slim. Being exposed in the ER is a very serious issue and not something to be taken lightly!

Oh, I understand. But with his oxygen levels being unstable, and his Dr's recommendation...he could be put on oxygen? A mixed bag, for sure.

I hope you get better fast, @Karl_K ! Could your doc make a house call?
Our neighbour is over 80 and has been on oxygen for years now. He never left the house without a mask before Covid and now his doctors come to see him because of the risk. They have masks and suits on to protect him.

If you go to the ER maybe they can send you home with an oxygen tank.

If you don't feel you can go to the ER, at the very least try proning (lying face down) to increase your lung capacity. Doctors are finding that it makes a huge difference in O2 levels and that some people who would have needed a ventilator don't need it if they are proned.

If you can't lie prone, sit up. Just avoid lying on your back, which compresses parts of the lungs.

Karl-

I don't know what to say. I think you need professional medical help. Listen to everyone here. I will pray.

I have oxygen tanks and a oxygen concentrator as well as a bipap.
The issue is im touching the limits of what my home equipment can provide. The concentrator cant provide enough volume for use with the bipap at higher flow rates, my o2 is low at levels they work well together right now. Normally they are fine
The tanks cant hold enough for to last much time and the concetrator is hitting its limits of how much o2 it can provide.
It is normally not an issue because when it got this bad in the past I was in the hospital getting treatment. If it wasnt for covid I would be this time also, im am really scared about going to the ER right now.

Is there a way to get an additional concentrator and/or additional tanks? What about a heavier duty bipap? Maybe things are crazy enough right now the Dr can prescribe things they might not be able to usually.

(I am in no way an expert on this and just learning lung issues so ignore if off base!)

I asked my supplier if they had concentrators with more flow and he said yes but the doctor will have to arrange it.
So that's out until Monday.

I got some tanks refilled so I have a few more for the weekend.

up and down, had about 3 hours of my o2 staying consistent with 5L from my concentrator and getting some sleep.
Its back to being all over the place.
The concentrator doesnt have enough flow pressure to deal with it and tanks run out in jut a few minutes at high flow. Hospital would be higher pressure higher flow which is the ideal for me when like this.....
o2 flow from concentrators isnt enough to keep up with bipap at this flow rate.

I’m so sorry @Karl_K I‘m not getting my alerts...I just read you are still having problems...It’s such a hard decision. I understand not wanting to go to the emergency room. Can you call the emergency room to explain your situation? Maybe they can help you without going in..

@Karl_K I am sorry you are going through this and glad you have your tanks refilled for the weekend. Sending you continued healing vibes and good wishes.

More than 14 nursing homes lost more than 25 residents each here. In Cobble Hill (very close to where we live) 55 people died at one nursing home. One out of every 6 residents died there. :(

Such a tragic loss of lives, @missy

@missy The nursing home situation is just horrendous! :(sad In amongst everything else in the media, the true extent of deaths in nursing homes in the UK is only just coming to light.

I know I don't know these people but I cry so many tears over them. No one deserves this. To be dependent on another and to be sick, scared and then to die alone. Heart wrenching.

If by some miracle our family all survive this based on our general attitudes Hubby says it's going to be hell reigning me in for the next pandemic

In the next pandemic

Me at 75: I'm going to the store again. Little Freddy did you want salami? Hungarian?

Freddy: oh Gran please just stay home and eat our rations

Me: I'm 75, what do I care? Now which salami did you want Freddy?

Hubby: You know your Gran has the worst survival instincts. Let her go get you your ice cream and salami.

I'm coming with her because we made a pact long ago.

SO I heard from a friend in Florida. Beaches are reopening already WTH.

And NY is already lifting some restrictions? TOO SOON.

And really? Vomitous.:knockout:

"
Trump calls to “LIBERATE” states where people are protesting social distancing restrictions.
President Trump on Friday openly encouraged right-wing protestsof social distancing restrictions in states with stay-at-home orders, a day after announcing guidelines for how the nation’s governors should carry out an orderly reopening of their communities on their own timetables.

In a series of all-caps tweets that started two minutes after a Fox News report on the protesters, the president declared, “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” and “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” — two states whose Democratic governors have imposed strict social distancing restrictions. He also lashed out at Virginia, where the state’s Democratic governor and legislature have pushed for strict gun control measures, saying: “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!”

His stark departure from the more bipartisan tone of his announcement on Thursday night suggested Mr. Trump was ceding any semblance of national leadership on the pandemic, and choosing instead to divide the country by playing to his political base."

Welcome to the second wave. It's infuriating.

I feel like we are in a horror movie where you hear the ominous music playing so you know something terrible is about to happen and you want to warn the people in the film but you realize it is futile. They cannot hear you nor can they do anything. Queue the ominous music now....

or this one. Choose your song. :(

Melancholia during the day, ominous when I suddenly wake at 3:00am in anxiety.
:blackeye:Sums it up pretty well.

End the next COVID-19: Ban global wet markets and illegal slaughterhouses now

" Recently, Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading voice in the U.S. response to COVID-19, said that global wet markets for wildlife should shut down. These markets have come under intense scrutiny as sources of disease and viruses. And many believe they create conditions for human sickness. Over 140,000 people have signed this petition urging the UN and WHO to take action. Sign the petition to get wildlife wet markets shut down."

Please sign the petition if you support shutting down the wildlife wet markets and illegal slaughterhouses.

I mentioned this in another thread. They are preparing a plan to reopen California because we flattened the curve, yet they are building field hospitals. It seems that no one is noticing because they want out of their houses so badly. Do they not see that they are getting ready for a wave of sick people?

Ugh. They are reopening too soon! :blackeye:

I fear we are going to relapse if states are opened up too soon without a smart plan in place. And then all this for naught and in a much worse off place economy and health wise.

Tell me your Governor has a plan in place to keep everyone safe as the state reopens.

ETA:
OK found this.

@House Cat from this link it doesn't appear Governor Newsom is planning on reopening anytime soon...is this info incorrect?

He hasn't given a date yet...
