Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

I have family living in Sweden, apparently they are going "survival of the fittest" approach. My uncle is sick (recovering now) and they refused to test him (he has a weak heart & had open heart surgery not long ago). Everything is open and everyone is working like normal, even though the hospitals are filled with Covid patients. It's crazy!

O m g that sounds awful! I'm sorry for your uncle. I hope he recovers quickly and fully.

It's not at all how I remember the Swedish core values... It's all about solidarity normally.

DH just sent me this article, in one town in CT they are using drones now to scan residents' body temperature, slippery slope if you ask me:

Wow...... thanks for sharing this..... not just body temperatures...... I'm with you on the slippery slope thing.

Yes true not just body temp, I should have put etc because it is truly far reaching and even worse, the people in the town weren't made aware ahead of time. Why?

I think that's too much. If you go to Disney and they do this once they open again, you are on notice. It's your choice. But to collect all this without consent and providing no notice? Really?!

@elizat, totally agree. This doesn't even seem legal to me but I guess it is because there isn't personal indentifying information, or at least for now. However if they are using drones to "track the virus" I just don't see how useful that will be without identifying these people so even if they aren't going to that extent now, they will be soon.

I worry about what's next, I really hate the direction things are going and that the virus will be an excuse to erode liberties and it will all be sold as for the "greater good".

I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Oh no, I am so sorry and hope your Uncle recovers fully and that the rest of your family remain safe and well. That is super scary and that is how we are going to end up here if you ask me with the rush to reopen things way too soon. JMO but mark my words. We are heading down the path of survival of the fittest and luckiest.

This is baloney. The link provided is to an ad for a company called Draganfly which was trying to promote itself by appearing to be doing something it merely aspires to do. The Town of Westport doesn't even stop speeders on I-95 between exits 17 and 19 although The State Police Baracks is located there and the Bridgeport State Police Station has cameras monitoring the entire highway. They couldn't be bothered. Do you think they are going to scan the local shopping alleys of tiny Westport trying to find out the body temperatures of the ladies going into Tiffany's or Anthropologie?

@AGBF, I don't think this is baloney, it's being reported by multiple news sources. Is it as effective as they say? Who knows but just the idea that they are attempting to monitor the public in this way is concerning.

Can you give me the sources you have, StephanieLynn? I do not disbelieve you, but I I think that the company in question (I am feeling sorry that I even mentioned its name and gave it free publicity) is just trying to launch its product. I may be wrong, but something about this sounds very, very fishy.

Talk about lacking awareness and empathy for others! A girl I went to high school with just posted on FB about how easy the unemployment process was. She filed for unemployment on Monday morning and already has it in her bank account plus the extra $600/week. I say lacking awareness and empathy because half a dozen (at least) of her friends have been filing for weeks and still haven't gotten anything. They aren't working at all and really need the money. She is working 30 hours per week and was just losing $150/week after taxes so was also broadcasting everywhere that she is making an extra $2400/month for as long as this goes on. (Which, you can imagine, thrilled her friends who haven't gotten a paycheck in 6 weeks!)

The whole system here is broken.

I am watching Cuomo's daily press conference right now and he just quoted Edith Hamilton and Edward Gibbon (The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire) and it's genius. Explains exactly how I feel about people who are complaining about the Quarantine.

"When the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, then [they] ceased to be free."

"We have a responsibility today to ourselves and to others. There is a codependency and a mutuality among people in society that is more clear today than we have ever seen. You sneeze and I get sick. I sneeze and you get sick. That close a connection.

You have a responsibility to act prudently. You are not just risking your life. You are risking my life, my parent's life and my children's life. And you don't have that right.

You have to act responsibility. We have to act responsibly. All of us. "

Sadly there are people who are just not self aware. Amazing but true.

@AGBF, you could be right and maybe the company is just trying to get their name out there. They obviously have potential to make a lot of profit being connected to COVID-19.

I just want people to be aware of what is going on and the potential ramifications in the future. This could be a "testing of the waters" to see how much the public will put up with.

I read an article about Apple and Android having opt in technology to tell you if you have been near a person with covid based upon data. I see all of this as very slippery slope that leads to less privacy based upon the desire to be "safe." I am not ok with that.

Some (most...maybe all) of you guys remember when my middle brother was in the hospital last year... well he's back in, a year later, same issue but hopefully caught in time. I feared this happening.

Arcadian I am so sorry. I am sending your brother bucketloads of healing dust. And gentle hugs to you. Praying he recovers quickly.

That it is, we're in NY and my husband has been filing for 3 weeks now, still nothing. No stimulus either.

I agree with everything a 1000%. One lesson we should learn out of this is how closely linked we are as a community. We are each responsible for not just ourselves but for each other, everything we do have impacts on others around us. We should be less selfish and stop thinking about what is convenient for us, everyone is in this together and if we don't do things right, we will ALL pay the price.

I don't think I've ever been so impressed with a politician in my life as I've been with Cuomo.

This is extremely hard on my folks, as they cannot be there. He's rightfully so, scared himself, but my parents cannot take care of him at home, its the best place for him. So its one day at a time for now. Its a very good hospital so we're hoping for the best.

I agree Cuomo is doing a very good job during challenging times. Before this I wasn't enamored of him for various reasons but I am impressed with his handling of the pandemic. I do wish a few years ago he had the strength of conviction to get the supplies he was told we would need at a future date for such an occasion but no one is perfect. I hope going forward both he and Governor Murphy can make sure to have what the states need for future pandemics. Same for all the governors of all the states in the USA and all the world leaders everywhere. I hope everyone learns something valuable from this very harsh lesson costing so many their lives. :( And moving forward may the maximum amount of lives be saved and never again I hope and pray we never experience such tragedy and loss.

I will pray for you and your family Arcadian. Wish your brother a safe outcome.

@Arcadian I hope your brother is through this soon.

@Karl_K still thinking of you. Hope you are doing well and breathing much better.

I am so sorry, Arcadian. Your family has been through the wringer in the last couple of years. I wish you all strength and will pray for your health and God's blessing.

Karl-

I have heard no news of you. I continue to pray for you and that your doctor is doing everything that is right to ameliorate your condition. In these days of covid19 protocols I cannot always follow what is right (e.g. are steroids still and in all cases banned.) But I just pray God guides the hands of your caretakers and stays with you.

Very stressful. Healing vibes across the miles...….

@Karl_K I am sorry you had to go to the hospital but relieved you are out now and that you are OK. Continued well wishes being sent your way.
