Okay... so does anyone have any idea what one of these beauties might run me? My baguette halo qoute was alittle over 3500. I need to shave a 1000 off of that. SO I''m thinking either complete pave halo or this one from lockes. Anyone have a price for this one or any other? Oh... and I want a delicate setting. So the Facet''s one is out, I''m afraid. And Quest and GOG are my prefered custom jewelers.

I have no advice, just wanted to wish you well! I hope everything (move/kitty/job/etc) is going well and I hope you can find a ring you love!!

I am not really sure how much that one or others will cost you, but I love that one you posted. Sorry I am no help...

Like you, Gypsy, I gave up on the baguette halo idea. Apparently, it''s so difficult to make well that very few jewellers/benchmen want to spend the time on it because the cost skyrockets.

I contacted Lockes a while back and while I didn''t get a price on the setting ( I''m a big help,I know), the saleslady, Danya, did tell me that the halo was 1 mm. wide and she also sent along different views of that setting which I''ll try to locate for you.

I''m keeping up with your news re Duncan, the new job, wedding planning etc etc and am so happy that everything is going well.

Don''t you think a baguette halo would kinda detract from the asscher, as it is too similar. I think putting step cut stones in the halo would look like you were trying to pretend the asscher is actually bigger rather than using the halo as a vehicle to highlight the asscher''s beauty (and boy are asscher''s beautiful!) I think pave all the way!!! Stunning look, all that glitter around the beautiful deep glass of the asscher!

The Lockes setting is really pretty, but considering their plain solitaire with 6 tiny chips is $1800, I am thinking that this one will be over your target budget.

Good to see you here, Gypsy! Hope all is well with the new job, etc.

Sorry, Gypsy, I searched my pictures file and 500+ e-mail attachment photos and came up empty.

If you phone Lockes, they might still have them on file.

I don''t know anything about pricing, but I love the combo of the traps and rounds on the Lockes setting you posted.

gypsy,

have you gotten a quote from Quest? i found their custom quotes to be the lowest out there when I was doing my project last year. Hopefully, they can do it w/in your budget or I''d suggest just holding off a bit longer and saving up the extra 1k.

It sure doesn''t hurt to ask! I really like the halo with the trap corners...and maybe compromises could be made in choice of metal or even forego the pave band to keep the price down....

Or maybe Mrssalvo is right...that it would be better to put this off and save up until you can get EXACTLY the ring you want. I just hate it that you''re sighing!

I know I should be shot for being so inconsistent, but I''m not as sold on the all-baguette halo as I was. It has occurred to me that the results could have looked a bit masculine.

Here''s another combo that might be really neat (it''s probably already been posted somewhere around here) what about a halo with all RBs, but bags on the shank? Just a thought.

Cheer up Girl!! This is supposed to be fun!!!

I was in Davidson Lict in Walnut creek and scoped out some pave halos...

And well.. I know I was sighing. But once I went in with a midset that was open to it... I really liked a couple of the styles (not the execution though. Was too sloppy for me).

But I''m going to give Quest a buzz and see what they qoute me. They do have good prices and I love Kaleighs. I know that her taste is fabulous and that she hasn''t had any complaints that I know of regarding the quality.

jayrenay9 posted a baguette halo that has me thinking that Widget is right that if the baguette halo isn''t done exactly right the result might be masculine. Which I definitely do not want.

Thanks for the good wishes DS and Cehra and isaku... and well, EVERYONE.

I miss you guys.

gypsy...this reminds me! check out joe escobar for your baguette halo that you wanted. i was surfing their site and saw one that looked like the one you wanted in their 'joe escobar designs' section. it looked lovely and had side baguettes i think, vertical. no price listed but they are in campbell so they are local, so call them and ask!! if it's a custom joe escobar design as well they can probably modify it to make it perfect for you visually. the site was macromedia so i didn't save the picture at the time (computer was going too slow for me to screenshot and photoshop) but check it out!! www.joeescobar.com and go into 'Designers' or 'Brands' and I think they have their own listing for their designs.

Gyspy, since you are in CA now, I''d follow Mara''s advice, and check out Joe Escobar. I have had some problems with my asscher RHR from Quest. I was going to suggest this to you but couldn''t remember the jewelers full name. Then Mara posted this for you. So I''d rather see you work with someone local, especially if you need to have a stone replaced, etc.. There are many people here that have never had a problem with their rings made by Quest. But I''ve had 4 stones fall out , all replaced for free but the shipping adds up. I wish I could say my ring was problem free, but it''s not. Anyway, wanted to give you the heads up on MY experience. Good luck, hope you are enjoying CA, Lisa

Gypsy here it is..I managed to get my print screen going on since I rebooted. Am I on crack or is this not what you pretty much wanted? (Maybe minus side baguettes?) Anyway I think it's close, but I am thinking since they can do something like this, they could modify the design to be exactly how you wanted, aka longer baguettes or whatever.

Erik Carlson is familiar with PS so I'd call him and talk to him if you want to go in and visit and get details.

If you want to visit JE let me know... I love going there! But I'd call ahead of time and talk to someone.

Wow, Mara, that''s a great find!! Looks very nice!

Lisa, I am glad you are sharing your experience regarding the custom pave setting. My SIL also had a custom pave setting made, and she has lost stones as well. But her jeweler is about a half hour away, so she has inconvenience, but not the shipping expenses. From what I have read, I agree with you that pave is best done locally in case there are problems.

Yeah...I''ve got to say...all these reports of losing melee sure would make me think twice about getting a pave ring, especially if it were one I''d want to wear everyday...

I just don''t get it. I have a couple of OLD pave estate pieces and have never lost a stone. I wonder what''s going on???

I know widget. Remember the ring Nanny gave to me that was her mom''s?? It is a 3 stone OMC/OEC ring. It''s got to be over 125 years old with 65 single cuts in the melee, and haven''t lost one stone in the time I''ve had it ( going on 10 years now) and my Nanny wore it a lot too. I have no idea what happened to my asscher ring. I treated it like a baby, and boom a stone is gone. I have shared this before but felt I needed to share it again. I didn''t want Gypsy to think my ring is problem free. Now if I lived near Quest that would be one thing, but I don''t. Diamondseeker, that''s too bad about your SIL''s ring. But at least she lives near by the jeweler. That would make all the difference in the world to me.

Gosh, this picture is pretty!! What a beautiful find.

That''s EXACTLY like Isaku''s baguette halo Mara... But obviously it''s close enough that I will definitely give him a call. I would MUCH prefer to work with someone local. Campbell is REALLY close to my work too (Right Mara? I work at the same place your freind used to, if you remember). I will have to give JE a call then tap you if I think a consult is in order-- I''d love to have the company. Does he do pave too as a lower cost alternative?

Kaleigh-- THANKS for posting that. It''s something I was going to ask about, but just never did. I guess I missed the other times you posted it. Or it slipped my mind, god knows that''s been happening more frequently recently. THANK YOU.

I have a 18k baguette halo setting for my cushion cut sapphire. However, the setting is somewhat different. It has one long baguette on 4 sides and Marquise on the 4 corners. I got it for $1800 in LA jewelry district 2 years ago.

Gypsy...yes Campbell is about 10 minutes from San Jose, very close. Joe Escobar is a large jewelry store, they do custom work, they sell stones, they sell a bunch of designer jewelry. They have a large retail store right off Hwy 17/880. A veritable treasure trove of bling-a-ding-ding.

Anyway, I''d definitely give them a ring, talk to Erik...tell him what''s been going on with trying to find this setting and talk about modifications to this one to make it what you want. My thought was if they can do THIS one, they can do what you want right? This one looks pretty darn good too. They also do pave pieces as well. I''d ask for quotes of both. I also tried on a really lovely Michael Bodanza pave asscher prong-set halo setting while I was there with Orange Vixen a few weeks ago...yum. So they have things you can also try on to get a feel for something somewhat similar on your finger if you need to.

They have a threesome of sweet thin pave bangles that I have been drooling over for a while now, again their own design. Hmmm.

There''s also something like a 10c cushion they did a custom setting for, the picture is on their website, that thing is ginormous!!

Just thpought I''d share that I, too, have pave rings and have had absolutely no problem whatsoever with losing stones. I am leaning towards having a halo of pave surround my center stone in the not-so-distant future. I probably will go with the same jeweler or go more local though. I like the idea of checking on the progress and also the reassurance if a problem may occur.

For me, though, I have pretty blessed and had no problems at all...

Hey Mara-- you available this Friday or Next? I''m thinking of going over to JE on one of these days during my lunch-- and on Friday I can get away for 1.5 hours so it would work out okay. Let me know and I''ll call Erik for an appointment. THanks, Layla

This Friday works best because I start my new job next Wed, so I won't be able to sneak off for any long lunches for a while since I'll be swamped. Also, right now (for this week anyway!) I work up the street from JE so it's easy to get over. Just let me know what time Fri and I will be there!

Alright... I''ll call today and let you know.

New JOB? Link me if applicable... otherwise tell me what''s going on!

Hey Mara-- Erik wasn''t in today. He''ll be in tomorrow. I emailed him a note asking for an appointment at 11:45 on Friday. I also attached the Powerpoint presentation of the baguette halp setting, and a desciption of the pave setting as an alternative. I''ll post when I know if he can meet us on Friday. Got to go! THANKS!

haha hope he doesn''t get freaked out by your PPT!

i will tell you about the new gig on Friday...!

haha. You know you are a pricescoper when...you create power point presentations for your custom work detailing every anal minute point LOL!!! I would so totally do this!
