It appears that in January Ebay began a new program that they call "Authenticator Pre-Certified Jewelry" wherein a seller can have their item certified by IGI (International Gemological Institute)prior to listing the item on Ebay. I wonder if anyone has purchased pre-certified stone and if the IGI grading was accurate. My take on IGI, from reading what consumers and experts have posted to a variety of forums, is that they do not grade as tightly as some of the other Gemological labs.
Has IGI tightened up? Would you trust the pre-certification of a stone by them? I think it is an interesting concept, to have the stone pre-certified, but since inconsitencies occur in grading, maybe it isn''t worth it?
Whatcha think about this?
