Last weekend, I took a crazy day trip to NYC for the sole purposeing of finding my eloping dress. I was sucessful and actually purchased two dresses from Bergdorf Goodman. The day was like a fabulous dream -- I felt like I was in "Pretty Woman" (minus the "hooker" aspect) since it's not somewhere that I would normally shop. I got to try on dresses by designers that I've long admired, but never would have seriously thought about purchasing from. I ended up buying a beautiful Zac Posen dress that I will be wearing to three weddings and my high school reunion this year, and my eloping dress by a designer named Doo.Ri.
The associate was really helpful - he actually suggested that I have the dresses shipped back to me back in DC to avoid the sales tax. In my excitement of finding THE dress, I didn't get a chance to examine the dress carefully. When the dress was delivered on Wednesday, and I noticed a few snags on the dress. The dress is grecian styled (draping), and the fabric is a very delicate silk jersey. Since I was coming home for the Easter holiday (NJ), I actually went back to BG this afternoon to drop the Zac Posen dress off for alterations, and to see whether they had extra stock of my eloping dress.
Sadly, they did not have extra stock of my eloping dress. I decided that I loved the dress too much to search for another one, and told the associate that I was fine with keeping the dress. I figure it's not something that would be noticeable in the pictures.
The associate who helped me last week apologized profusely, and called an in-store seamstress to take a look at whether she can fix the dress. She offered some creative suggestions that I think will fix the snags in the dress. Here's the amazing part -- the associate waived the fee to fix the dress (which would have cost about $40), and will be issuing me a 40% discount off of my eloping dress!! Plus, he is going to reship both of my dresses back to me (after the alterations and fixes) for free.
I was SO happy by the gesture, and really understand why BG has such a sterling reputation. I just wanted to share the story because I feel really, really lucky! And, I'm glad that all the stress that I went through with finding the perfect eloping dress paid off.
THanks for letting me share!
