So, when I had my new band made with the RHR sized. Originally the ring was a 4.75 with sizing balls. After a weight gain (urg) I decided to have it sized up to a 5.5 and take the sizing balls out. .That was the plan, that's what I paid for.

Well... it didn't happen. The guy took out the sizing balls and SHAVED the inside of the bottom of the ring

(it once-upon-a-time was the same mm thickness all the way through). At the time I kind of gave up because we had already had such a clash over the design for the new band. The new ring is a 5.5 and fits great, but my RHR is definitely not any larger. Now, weeks later, while my poor beloved ring has been sitting in a box, I've decided I want to wear it again. Except I can't. It's so darn tight I thought I might have to go to the ER and have it cut off because I couldn't remove it in the shower a few days ago. I'm really upset that he took advantage of me by not doing the work I paid for, but I don't know what to do because I've waited so long (school, life, things got in the way).

What do you think I should do? I don't have any paperwork about what was supposed to be done to the ring from him, just a receipt. Should I go in and ask him to check the size on the ring and ask to have it resized with GOLD ADDED because he didn't do it the first time? Do I have any real rights since I have no paper trail? I'm confused.

Help would be much appreciated.

Absolutely take the ring in and watch him put it on the ring sizer. Then tell him how upset you are with the way he attempted the repair. Is it possible that it was done this way because of worry over the pave? That if the ring was made bigger the "normal" way, the pave might have been in jeopardy? I don''t know the answer to this part, but it doesn''t sound like it''s the right size yet either.

I would take it back and tell him that you would like him to finish the work that you paid for!

Thank you, both of you. I''ll contact him this week!

Small update: I went back to the jeweler and talked to him. He tried to tell me that I DIDN'T infact pay an extra $30 to have the ring sized and all he was supposed to do was "take gold out" (...um, why would I tell you to do that?) I said no no no, that is not the case, never was.

The ring turned out to be a 4.25 (...?) so I told him I wanted it to be a 5.5 and I was not paying for it, since I already had. I also said I wanted new gold put BACK in to make it all the same thickness. He finally agreed (probably because he had other people in the shop

) so I pick it up on Tuesday. I will throw a fit if the ring still has a thin underside too! Cheapskate!

...I can't find a good (local) jeweler for the life of me.

Good for you! Hopefully he will get it right this time!

For $30 I wouldn''t have gone anywhere near his shop again. I''d have found a new jeweler and happily paid another $30 to have it done correctly this time, but that''s just me. The worry about what this fool might do again just wouldn''t be worth it.

Ditto.
