I am going to visit my bf memorial day weekend in Balitmore and I was wondering what is there to do? I know he mentioned about going to DC and looking at the monuments and whatnot, but what is there that people love to do there??
This will be my first trip out there and I just kinda want to get a feel for it....
Whats the weather like?
What should I pack?

Thanks in advance!! :)

I live in Baltimore!

DC does have tons of stuff to do, but everybody else will be there too! Crowded! Plus the best Smithsonian (American History) is closed right now.

Anyway, back to Baltimore...
1) The aquarium is a given. It''s amazing. Go on a Friday night if you are there because you can get in up to 8 pm and stay until close and there will be fewer kids then.

2) The Baltimore Museum of Art and Walters Art Gallery are both FREE right now! The BMA has an awesome Matisse collection and the Walters is just really special.

3) Spend some time shopping in Hampden. It''s truly Baltimore-esque.

4) Also spend Saturday night in Fells Point. Just trust me on this... skip the PowerPlant Live scene. Have dinner at Bertha''s.

5) If you''re in to history at all, Ft. McHenry is where the Star Spangled Banner came to be. It''s a nice place to visit on a sunny day.

I''ll come up with more!

cool...keep it coming!! Im really excited!!

You could go to the Smithsonian in DC and see that fantastic jewel exhibit everyone has been talking about.

ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh jewelry............. LOL

I should start the training now....lol
ha!

I think the Natural history museum is closed, right? That's wher the jewels are.

I think Natural History is still open... the American History museum (Fonzie''s jacket, ruby slippers, First Lady dresses) is closed until 2009 for renovations.

The monuments in DC are least crowded and prettiest at night. Get him to drive you down in the evening and go see them all then! The Jefferson is particuarly romantic in the evening and the Korean is a wee bit creepy. FDR is awesome at night.

The true Baltimore thing to do is go eat crabs. Do you like crabs? The Maryland Blue Crab is like a lifestyle around here! There are a few places within the city to go... Obrycki''s and Bo Brooks come to mind. Bo Brooks is down on the water in Canton and has a great sunset.

He lives in Calvert county so we will be driving about an hour. We are having dinner in Annapolis when he picks me up from BWI. Other than that thats all I know. He wants to plan everything so I guess its all up in the air.... He''s sweet like that....Im not used to that...its a good change...any good jewelry stores there.... hehe....

I live in DC. If you''ve never been you can take a tour of the Mall area and see the major monuments - Jefferson, Lincoln, etc. I highly recommend that. Also I second the suggestion of the Musuem of Natural History - amazing. The National Gallery of Art is lovely too, has a cafe on the ground floor with gellato for a snack. The collection includes some nice pieces, in particular a Da Vinci - the only one you can see in the US (I think). The Sackler Gallery has the famous Peacock room and some beautiful Asian art. National Archives has the Constitution - which everyone should see at least once I think.

Georgetown is a great area to walk around and shop - not esp. jewelry shops but it has a Cusp (the new Neiman Marcus store) and a Barney''s CoOp, H&M, Anthrolpologie, Urban Outfitters, some small boutiques like Sugar if you go up Wisconsin, the usual places Banana Republic, Club Monoco, etc.

As for jewelry - well you can hit the Tiny Jewel Box downtown - fun but $$$, Chevy Chase, Md. has Tiffany, Cartier, and Van Cleef, more $$$$. I don''t really know of any good vintage places - I''ve been looking too.

If you specify more what you''re interested in I can give more DC advice if you''d like.

The Natural History Museum is still open. I was there about 2 months ago and saw the precious gems exhibit. It''s the American History that''s closed right now. Sumbride is right on point with the suggestions. You might also try Little Italy if you have a taste for Italian food.

I grew up in Annapolis for 26 years, now live just over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, just 15-20 minutes from downtown Annapolis.

I am from Baltimore, just moved to Annapolis after a 6 yr stint in NYC. There are a couple somewhat decent jewelry stores in Annapolis for window shopping- Zachary''s is on the corner of Main Street, close to the city dock.
I have to say Annapolis is a lovely town, lots of history, good food, fun bar and just so darn cute- you could definitely spend a nice day here.
