Hey diamondgirl5k -

I saw your query on the Travel Eye candy thread! I spent a week at the Hilton Barbados in 2005 and LOVED it! Are you definitely going or just thinking about it?

Things we did:

1) a cab tour of the island with a stop at the pottery for lunch and shopping and a trip to the cave, the local history museum, and shopping downtown
2) we ate out in town almost every night at some really great places, but one of my favorites was actually the fish place in the parking lot of a strip mall! The other was the 5 star place on the edge of a cliff.
3) a catamaran evening sail with dinner and swimming with turtles
4) snorkeling with turtles AGAIN
5) just enjoying the gorgeous beaches and the pool at the Hilton.

Wow. My husband just came back from a week there. He''s there almost every month. He always stays at the Hilton too. This trip he did the Ocean Challenge sailboat racing, which was a highlight for him. You sign up to crew a sailboat in a race. I think there are 12 people needed per boat, no experience necessary. He had a lot of fun. You can also do surfing. Stay off the public beaches at night. No wearing camoflage anything, it''s against the law there. Take cabs, don''t drive. Don''t go in August, it''s stagnant, no breezes and the sand is unbearably hot. The Hilton also lends out kayaks.

Going to Barbados?? It''s lovely!!! We had our honeymooon in Bdos - stayed at the Crystal Cove Hotel/Resort (a small AI). Loved Bridgetown - Ryanne''s is super super yummy (it''s right across from the major shopping area). Lots of upscale restaurants, too - we had dinner at Calabaza and it was absolutely perfect (service and food). Crystal Cove had all sorts of water sports included - including that banana ride and inner tubing. Our hotel had excellent, excellent food - the fish fry at Oistins (Friday) is not to be missed. Tripadvisor.com was very, very helpful for us when we planned our trip :) The only thing I disliked were the vendors on the beach (can''t be avoided when there are public beaches - I love the public beaches in theory, but not very much as a vacationer) and we found that we got really strange looks when we wanted to go exploring on the island via public buses etc (most people staying at the resorts go on big tours, it seems like). Beautiful island though, and extremely kind people.

Hi everyone, thank you for your responses!! I''m sorry I haven''t gotten back to you sooner, i just saw the thread..I''m so glad that you guys liked the Hilton, that''s where I was planning to stay because it looked really nice and was in our price range, is there access to the beach from that hotel? I''m so excited! I haven''t booked the trip yet, just need to talk to my boss and make sure that I can take the time off from work, how long do you guys think is a good time to vacation there? Is 4 days enough?

Thanks again!!

The Hilton is right on the beach but there are quite a few rocks in the water, or at least there were when I was there. The beach itself is really nice, but be careful wading in if your feet are sensitive. They are big rocks, so it''s easy to see them at least.

I''m not sure where you''re traveling from but it took almost a day for us to get there, so I don''t think 4 days is really enough time to thoroughly relax and enjoy it! Try to go a few more days if you can!
