In the red corner we have the Casablanca 1831 and in the blue corner we have the Casablanca 1881... haha Ok seriously.... I am in love with 2 Dresses! The past 2 weekends I went to seperate bridal stores, the first weekend I fell in love with the 1831 and said THIS is THE DRESS. My wedding is still a year and a half away so I kept having this feeling of "what if?". So over the weekend my mom and I looked at another store that had more of a selection and I tried on the 1881 and it was so flattering and lovely! Unfortunately they did not have the 1831 to try on side by side, so when I got home I called the other store to see if they had the 1881... THEY DO! So I have an appointment tonight at 6 to try on both the 1831 and the 1881. I am interested to see what some of your opinions are before I go. Our wedding reception is going to be at an restored 1920''s bank (I love it!). The 1831 gives of an simple elegant romantic vibe to me where the 1881 screams modern princess.

So many dresses too few fiances! haha

Here is a picture of ME in the Casablanca 1831. Sorry the pics are not good because my mom had the camera without the flash and it is not fitting properly.

Here is SOMEONE ELSE in the 1881 but I think we have similar builds. The salon was one of those where you can''t take pictures and they cut the tags out of the dress, but my mom and I were too smart for them and we figured it out almost instantly.

Out of the two, I think I prefer the 1881-I adore the back of it.

Hi BlueEyes,

Both dresses are very pretty! Will you be keeping the straps on the first dress? Also, is the second dress going to be two-toned?

Yes, I will be keeping the straps on the 1831. I do not look the greatest in strapless, so I was originally going for a dress with straps...,but we found that a sweetheart neckline was very flattering.

Yes, I will be going with the 2 tone on the 1881. I did not see it in a all one color, but I think the two tone was very flattering. And I agree, I adore the back, it was very flattering as well!

Well I love both of them but the perfect combo to me would be the first one made into strapless/sweetheart!

Hi blueyes! I hope you''ll accept my honest opinion...I think it looks better in a single tone. When I looked at photos of the other bride in the two tone gown, I couldn''t stop thinking that her torso was bandaged. It reminded me of being wrapped in an ace bandage, same color, same effect. Except for the two tone aspect, I would say that is the more flattering gown. You won''t have to alter the neckline and the back is beautiful. Would you be open to getting it all in one color?

Hi BlueEyes! I''m going to against the grain and vote for the 1831!! I think it looks beautiful on you and once it is altered (looks like there is too much material in the bust area maybe?), I think it will be stunning!

The second dress is very pretty, and I''m sure it would look good on you too, but a) I agree with the whole bandaged thing, and b) it is strapless, and I think the straps on the first one are very elegant on you.

PLUS I heard straps are coming back in! You''d be ahead of the trend ;-) ahha

Either way you''ll look FAB on your wedding day!

1831 Love it on you provided they can alter the top!

Hi BlueEyes! Although I''m sure you would look fabulous in the 1881, I''m going to agree with October2008bride and cast my vote for the 1831. Even in the sample that''s not your size, I think the 1831 makes your waist look teeny-tiny, and imagine once it fits properly how wonderful it will look! And based on the location of your wedding, I think this one will fit perfectly with the "feel" of the day.

Also, I think Octoberbride is right - straps are making a comeback! Personally, I LOVE straps and my dress has them!

Good luck, I''m sure you''ll make a great choice whichever you pick!

Ditto... I tried DESPERATELY to find a dress I loved with straps, to no avail. My only stipulation going into my dress shopping was that it HAD to have straps--NOOOO strapless for break-the-mold Musey, nuh-UH.

(Though I am going to try adding off-the-shoulder straps and see if it "works")

Anyway, for that reason, I agree with leaning towards the '31. Just because I'm incredibly biased toward of-the-shoulder, it seems like you might be able to pinch those puppies right at the arm-crease area then let 'em drape off. Just as an experiment!

Lauraloo is actually doing that, getting the 1831 made into a sweethear (I hope she does not mind me posting a pic of her in the dress!)

Yes I am! (i dont mind:) I actually gave the dress shop a pic of 1881 and told them thats how I want the neck line shaped! They are both beautiful dresses.

Blueyes - Our venue styles sound similar. We are having our reception in what used to be an old mill, turned in to antique shop, turned in to a function hall.
A 1920s bank sounds absolutely fabulous and IMO, 1831 is perfect for something like that!! Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks everyone for your input, it is greatly appreciated. Well, tonight at 6 is the moment of truth. I think I will know for sure being able to compare them side by side and try them on.

My mom thinks the 1831 is perfect for our venue, it just screams classic romance, but I have never thought of myself as being a princess bride (poofier gown), I guess the 1881 isn''t all that poofy but to me it is. So I thought since this is the only day to play up being a bride that dress might be great. Maybe the bridal store will have the dress in all one color. The two tone is more of a champagne than the tan (less ace bandage looking) it looks in the picture. It is a very iradecent fabric.

I can''t say enough how comfortable the 1831 is. It has no boning or uncomfortable sparkles and I dont even have to wear a bra (I would just sew some cups in). The 1881 is comfortable as well but it has the boning in it, which can be a bit constricting especially when sitting.

I''ll let you know tonight and hopefully I will have more pictures.

To me it isn''t even a compition, 1831. The straps are much more flattering to your face shapes and strapless tend to make people look short. As for the poof, you could probably remove some tulle from the skirt to make it lay flat although because the 1881 is short without straps I actually think it looks poofier overaoll.
As for the second one being more irridensent champagne, if it didn''t show up that way in the pictures it probably won''t show up that way in your pictures either, so it very well may look like bandages.

1831! Love it, and it looks gorgeous on you!

I''m sorry to add to the confusion... but 1881 all the way! Let us know how the comparison trip works out!!!

I''m totally biased here, but I love the 1831! (I''m biased because it was my dress too!)

If you decide to go with the 1881, do the single color. I''m with whoever mentioned the "ace bandage" look. I totally agree...

I loved 1831 before, and I still love it now. I really think it looks great on you.

Ok, well I am a bit hesitant to say which dress because of all the votes for the 1831, but I think the 1881 is the WINNER (I have not ordered it yet). I think when I first started to try on dresses, I was having trouble picture myself as a bride, so a lot of the dresses just felt too over the top. But the more that things come together and I realize that this is my one chance to shine. I wouldn''t mind a little poof or sparkle, something special. Not to say the 1831 is not special. One problem I had with that dress is that I wanted a bit more fitted through the waist, hips and butt, so it was hard to picture it.

The 1881 is just so glamorous! And to be honest, the contrasting champagne bodice is not so ace bandage looking in person. The dress I am in is diamond white with the champagne bodice, I will be ordering an ivory dress with the champagne sash so there will be a little less of a contrast. I love love love the sweet heart neckline as well. It even made my mom tear up.

I am going back January 7th to try it on one more time and then make my decision, but I THINK I FOUND MY DRESS!!!! I had trouble even falling asleep last night, I couldn''t stop thinking about it!

The dress is not quite as this iridecent in person.

last one... I hope I made a good choice, but I appreciate all comments GOOD or BAD, hopefully good.

I think the silhouette of the 1881 dress looks gorgeous on you (still love the other one too)...but my original thought still stands, that it looks a bit ace bandage-ish in pictures

And I know you said that that it doesn't in PERSON, but remember that your wedding is going to be immortalized in PICTURES so it is equally (if not more!) important that it looks fab in pictures too.

So I would just make absolute certain that the color combo you are ordering doesn't have the same effect in pictures. Try it on and TAKE PICTURES before you order it. It's really important IMO.

I can understand what you are saying... Here is a pic of the dress in all ivory. I think it loses its richness and I actually like the 2 tone. I just dont want people gasping as I walk down the aisle, asking themselves, "what was she thinking?!".

I think it almost makes the dress look cheap and it loses its elegance.

hahahaha I promise no one will be thinking "what was she thinking??" it's not like you'll be wearing this dress (found on the forums at weddingbells.ca):

ETA: I don't think it was posted by someone showing their wedding, I think it was just posted for the decor....not sure

Don't worry honey, no matter which of these dresses you choose, NO ONE will be asking "what was she thinking?!?!?". NONE of these dresses are in that category.

It's just that photos are important things to consider when picking out dresses. I only talk about the photo thing because I was a 2 dress bride who found a gorgeous dress that looked fab in person. Then I took a few photos of me in it and BLECH. Everyone agreed that the dress just looked not so flattering in pictures, so I ended up buying 2 dresses because I needed to buy a new one that DID look great in pictures (that's how I ended up with the 1831).

And just for my .02...I like the single tone dress...
