the FH wants to go tour that old prison.. him beign a police officer and all

any other suggestions? is there anything that we shouldnt miss?

I may not be bee but I love Dublin!! You definitely should go to Trinity College and see the book of Kells- it is seriously gorgeous and the display at Trinity Library is amazing!!

AND go to the GUINESS FACTORY!! They will pour you a pint afterward and the head of the beer makes a four leaf clover! So cool!!

Also check out St. Patrick''s Cathedral, it is a beautiful place. Oh, and maybe some shopping (if you have time) on Grafton Street!!

Have so much fun and take pictures!!

Hi, oh yeah you should definitely go to Kilmainham Gaol-I presume that the prison that you''re FH is talking about. It''s brilliant. D and I spent a couple of months visiting a different place every week and that was by far our favourite place. I wouldn''t bother going to Dublinia-it really wasn''t that great and don''t waste your money on the ghostbus haunted tour thing. The Guinness factory is a great tour and you get your free pint at the end of it. If you kind of want to go on a viking type thing, instead of going to Dublinia, the viking splash tours are actually quite good. You do learn a lot. For shopping, definitely head to St Stephens Green and Grafton Street. Brown Thomas is our number one designer clothes shop-it''s filled with lovely goodies. For food, depending on where you would like to go: for high end (about €150 each including wine) Shanahans on the Green-it''s to die for but very pricey. For a nice romantic restaurant, Fallon and Byrnes is delicious-it''s about €50 pp but there''s a lovely atmosphere and the staff are so friendly. Yamamori Noodles is delicious also and such good value. We go there a couple of times a month and the food has never been bad.
If you can fit it in, maybe take a day trip to Glendalough. It''s one of my favourite places and there are bus tours leaving from Dublin every day. It''s about an hour to an hour and twenty minutes away. It''s just so peaceful out there and you can have a walk around and see the round tower etc. Also if you want to go out to Dun Laoghaire, you can get the dart (our train) or any of the 46 buses from the city center out there and walk the pier. If you do go out, make sure you get a 99 (an ice-cream) from Teddys-they are so delicious.

Back in the city, I love no 29 fitzwilliam square-it''s an old georgian house that''s done up as it was in the day. It''s a great way to spend a few hours especially if it''s raining and they have lovely cakes in the cafe!! Other than that soak up the atmosphere. I''m not sure where else you''re going in Ireland, but Newgrange is also great to visit-I''m going there again the week after next. If you need to know anything else just mail me back!

I usually avoid this forum cos I feel I have no rightful place in here but I do joyously lurk! In this case the Ireland thing drew me out of lurkdom... I love to talk about Ireland and help people discover how brilliant it is here!!!

ktkakes I found this thread on an Irish message board about massage in Dublin, might be something useful there. You could always try the high end hotels - maybe go on Tripadvisor and sort them by star rating and then check out the spa on their website.

The Jameson Distillery is a good bet if you're into whiskey more so than stout. Collins' Barracks museum (beside the train station) is free and is really good. Trinity is lovely but whatever you do don't wear heels on those cobbles, you'll break your ankles!

bee* by any chance have you got Newgrange tickets for the solstice?!?!?

Just looking at the timing and that seems about right... if you do, I'm SO JEALOUS! Enjoy Newgrange anyway, and wave to me as you cruise by now won't you?

You'll be within a couple miles of my home place

No unfortunately I didn't! On our next visit to Cabra Castle, we're just going to go for a visit. I'll definitely give a wave
