Hi all
I wanted to get a travel ring so I can leave my ering home when we are away. I searched for something ready made but came upon a loose cz that i loved and it’s being sent to me. What do you guys suggest for a setting? Don’t want to pay a lot but don’t want it to feel so cheap that I don’t want to wear it. The stone is a 12x8 L color antique step cut octagon. Thanks!

Will it fit in a "round" setting?

Anything that doesn’t come in a calibrated size and common cut (e.g. round, oval, princess) is going to require a custom made setting and that’s where cost goes up. Your best bet is probably contacting diamondmounts on eBay and having them make a setting for you, which you can then get your local jeweller to set for you. Or else, if you’re in the US, DanielM?

Ugh I thought a 12x8 was a standard size

I have enjoyed using jewelryhoo on ebay for affordable settings. Kyo has been great every time with good communication. I just give the measurements and pics of the stone and inspiration pics. They make the CADs and its done before i know it. I then have my local jeweler set my stones. Apparently not everyone will do so, so make sure you have someone before taking this route. I also second DanielM if you would like to use a US vendor and have him set it in one fail swoop.

So if I use Daniel M I would send him the stone and he would set it and send back? I didn’t see any settings on his Etsy page

Yes. He bezeled my champagne diamonds and made a necklace and matching bracelet for me in no time flat. I say that to say we didn't go through CADs, so I don't have experience with that with him. But others on PS do.

Ivy & Rose maybe?

@Blondegirl just message him on etsy. Tell him what you want and he will draw up the cads for you. He just did a white zircon ring with diamond pave for me.

Ivy and rose had some great ones snd the price was right but didn’t have the size I needed

Hi @Blondegirl - I'm not sure what your budget is, but I had Ivy & Rose make a custom setting for my travel ring a few years ago with tiny diamond melee for my 12x10 cushion rose cut and it turned out great and they were easy to work with.

@Blondegirl,
I don't know the type of travel you do, so if this is a ring you're wearing on vacations like a cruise, resort or Vegas etc, then that stone is a GREAT e-ring substitute. I had a travel ring made for travel, because I have to travel for work....but I travel to very poor, 3rd world countries, and was advised by colleagues in those countries, that my travel ring looked too real, and draws too much attention, and could actually get me mugged! They said it may not be a financial loss, but it is not worth being attacked over a CZ. Ever since then, I have only worn plain bands while on business trips.
