Did you ladies see this:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080310/ap_en_ot/big_diamond

A pear-shaped 72.22-carat diamond, expected to bring up to $13 million when it goes on the auction block next month, is seen during a press preview Monday, March 10, 2008 at Sotheby''s in New York. The D-color, flawless diamond will be sold April 10 at Sotheby''s Hong Kong galleries.

There is also a slideshow showing close-ups!

I wonder what the buyer would do with this? I mean, it''s too huge to wear as jewelry (for me, anyway -- I like ''em under 2cts).

Bridget in Connecticut.

I posted a 101.27 carat one here earlier that went to auction in Hong Kong this month. I bet those things are heavy

probably weighs 101.27 carats... haha ;)

Think they take credit?

ROTFL! That was good!

ETA I got the Sotheby's Preview magazine today. That pear is truly a "killer". Also being auctioned in Hong Kong is a magnificent pear necklace with 90 or so carats of D IF pears. Must be the month of the pears! LOL! I'll see if I can find a pic of the necklace - not sure if the catalog is on line yet.

I saw the pear on the news yesterday morning. The female news anchor said "well of course you wouldn''t WEAR that," right as I was looking back and forth from the tv screen to my hand thinking, "hmm, I could totally pull that off."

Honestly,
these pear-shaped diamonds are quite the turn-off. Why choose that shape anyway??!
