I like light blue stones with great color intensity.
I am looking at a medium strong VVS1 blue sapphire and considering a vivid light or medium VVS1 or VVS2.
I like a light blue, want to buy a good quality, but yet keep it within a 3-5,000 engagement ring price range.
Is the medium strong blue VVS1 a good quality stone to buy?

what do you think about this quality?

I will say people on this forum have VERY mixed feelings about the natural sapphire company, mostly negative.

odysseygems, gemburionline and vvs1gem on ebay.
These are all sites people have had almost universal good luck with and I would look at them before making any decisions.

What shape? What size? Only thing I can say for sure at this point, be sure the sapphire you purchase has an independant 3rd party lab report... GIA, GRS, AIGS etc. Do not accept a "certificate of authenticity", or an in-house certificate.

Sorry, I just noticed this one doesn''t show a certificate. That probably means Tan has sent it to GIA. If you ask him, I''m sure he''ll let you know.

I wouldn't worry so much about VVS and VS designations on a fine sapphire since the color hides inclusions anyways. Those are more for people concerned about white diamonds. I care more about zoning in sapphires, which are annoying areas of color voids. Sapphires are infamous for zoning. Also make sure you get a reputable lab certificate with any sapphire as most on the market are artificially enhanced in color and worth very little as a result. Make sure the lab checks for the presence of diffusion.

Here's an example of a zoned sapphire. Sometimes you can't see the zoning face up but through the pavillion instead. Either way, it still is bothersome to someone like me.

Incidentally vivid saturations do not come in stones of very light tone. You need to look at more medium to medium dark tones.

You can only tell true value once you know all the treatments on the stone. If it''s diffused, it''s worth not much, even if it''s great color.
