I am probably not the typical bride to be. I''m 47 and found Mr. Right (finally) We are having a private ceremony, very casual but nice. I am wearing a dressy suit. I would like to have a bouquet made or make it myself. I just can''t decide what size would be appropriate for the ocassion. I have the idea of 3 ivory roses and then I''m stuck. I''d even thought of one rose with something else. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks

I love this little bouquet-you could recreate something small like this with roses.

hi! congrats on finding the right guy! i''m sure lots of us here are jealous that you''re keeping it simple...
can you give us a better idea of the style/color of your suit? skirt/pants? what type of material? what season will you be married in?
i think 6-9 roses is a good gauge for a bouquet that would come out around the size of a bridesmaid bouquet -- substantial but not overwhelming. if you were looking for something smaller i would think about doing either a single flower or a corsage instead. if you have a white or ivory suit maybe use the flowers to bring in some beautiful color. you can do all color, or color with ivory/light yellows. it can be seasonal or just whatever is your favorite. there are so many great flowers out there that bring color and texture, and interesting fillers (i''m partial to hypernicum berries and seeded eucalyptus) that add a variation in shape and texture. if you''re just doing flowers for you, you can really do a lot more than those of us who feel the need to fill a whole room with flowers. i know theknot.com can be annoying, but they have a great stash of pictures of bouquets of all kinds. i would spend some time taking a look and saving pictures you like. if the website doesn''t provide info about the contents of the bouquet, most florists would be able to tell you what''s in it and even recreate it.
the DIYers here have resources if you want to buy and assemble flowers yourself. have fun with it!

Three ivory roses sounds lovely!

My florist pointed out that the bouquet should be proportional to the size of the bride as much as appropriate for the dress, location, etc. If you''re short or tiny, a smaller bouquet means you won''t get lost behind it. If there''s more of you, you don''t want the bouquet to get lost.

That said, who really cares what you ''should'' do? Get what makes you happy.

Congrats!

I am going to catch hell for it probably but have you thought of not carrying flowers? Maybe just have flowers in your hair? If you want to carry a bouquet, something small like 6 roses tied with a ribbon would be really nice.

I am not going to be carrying anything in my hands when I go down the aisle. But then again, I am sort of a minimalist.

found some that are relatively small and build on white, cream or pale blush roses...

another. you can always downsize, but maybe this gives some ideas for what to mix in?

Congratulations! I was 48 last Oct when I married . . . for the first time! We had a small intimate affair (60 people), and did the dress and tux with traditional florals. In your case, you decided you wanted something small and tasteful rather than big and overtly bridal. How about a nosegay sized bouquet, perhaps in a holder known as a tussey-mussey? I would engage a floral designer rather than try this myself, simply because they can make the simplest of florals appear very elegant. I found wonderful designs online that helped me choose my own florals; start there and see what types of styles/flowers really speak to you.

Wow I love the idea of something small and private! Ivory roses sound lovely I''d throw some small orchids in there too. Maybe with a purplish color. I love the way that looks.
