Ok Gypsy, as I said before, I am now soliciting advice from everyone...ok begging for advice on how to determine a wedding color scheme!!! You gals have already seen these pics and helped me figure out some color ideas. However we decided to stick with the cream colored tablecloths and napkins. (No room in budget for rental fees). First the details:

Date: Sunday September 28, 2008
Time: ceremony 11:30AM outdoors
Venue: for both ceremony and reception - French restaurant/old mansion (lots of dark wood)

Pics of where seated reception will be (chairs, tables, tablecloths will be as shown):

Last weekend, I was there and they had changed the window treatments to just a sage/jade green color. Much prettier in my opinion. This also means that I have no idea if they will change again by the time my wedding comes around.

Same spot, just turned the other way, where the ceremony will be:

Ok, now for my brainstorm for colors. At first, I wanted to use jewel tone colors to brighten up the space. I liked the intensity of jewel tone colors. So my BMs went with that idea and picked beautiful purple dresses.

Going with the jewel tone colors, I also love this teal color.

Ooh beautiful venue! Hmm, okay. September. You really want colors that will pop in the room, right? So how about some orange or red tones? Or even yellow? If not, then how about purples? I think a really pretty violet or even a mauveish pink tone would look great. Sorry if I am making bad suggestions!

Yeah I love the idea of jewel tones!!

And here is where you start to see how indecisive and incoherent my brain is getting when it comes to choosing colors. I am Chinese and red is a typical wedding color. I also love the idea of orange, because it''s so fun.

Haha...Sarahloves, just wait. It gets worse.

More orange

Wow we are on the same wavelength.

I think either would be great. I would worry about losing the red-tones or oranges in the room. But I would worry that the jewel tones might be too harsh. The room has a very traditional look and it might clash. So, in other words, I think reds and oranges would blend better, but would have to be the right tones so they don''t disappear against the brown wood. Make sense?

I want the centerpieces to be simple. Monochromatic or max of two related colors. Actually I want the centerpiece to look exactly like this, except I don''t know what colors. I also want the flower arrangement to be *slightly* larger.

Haha...yes Sarahloves, I know EXACTLY what you mean. So I saw this wedding in a magazine, and I was like, "OMG, I never thought I would do pink or "soft" colors...but I LOVE this look." So French, romantic, vintage...so perfect.

More of that same wedding.

One more of her wedding

More inspiration pics along the lines of "pink"...but I must say there is no way I could do too much pink. I am not a very "pink" kind of person. I tend to like dark intense colors. Same with FI. But I really think the vintage rosey colors would work well with the venue and the vision I have in my head.

more pink

I''m so sorry to be posting one pic at a time. I don''t have these uploaded to the PS server. Ok, now some gold that I thought was beautiful. But this probably won''t work because I wanted silver footed vases for the centerpieces.

Another centerpiece that I love love LOVE.

Perhaps I should have done a collage like you smart ladies.

For my bouquet, I''m 98% sure this is what I want.

Sorry to butt in to posting, I know I've done that twice already.

But, did you see our posts about Mercury glass? Might be a good option for you candle and vase-wise!

ETA: I love your dress!

I''m amazed I haven''t been kicked off yet for posting so many pictures.

I wanted everything to have a little element of "fun and wacky." FI and LOVE what the groomsmen did here...

ooooo Sarah, no I haven''t seen the post about mercury glass. Will go look soon. Almost done, I SWEAR!

Outside, for the ceremony and cocktail hour...I would like to have vases of baby''s breath. I just adore the lightness of this look. Simple but beautiful.

And finally, one of the things I am most excited about the merging of our families is that we are adding to the United Nations-ness of our family. My sister-in-law is from Spain, FI is from Russia, and my family is Chinese. And we are all American! So we''ll have poem readings/quotes in different languages during the ceremony. I love maps and globes...so I thought these giant balloons and and spherical paper lanterns would be a nice abstract way of representing that idea.

Balloons would go on tables outside for cocktail hour.

bigballoons.jpg

I would probably put them at different heights.

LAST picture! Hooray! These are the paper lanterns. Not sure if I will add flowers too. Also not sure what colors...maybe just white/ivory?

Wowwww you are so much farther along than me!! So many ideas!

THANKS for the link! I love those pillar holders from BBB! Not too pricy and totally works for what I had in mind. Thanks qtn for finding them...haha. Ok, I am off to sleep.

Any help that someone can give me for choosing a coherent color scheme would be GREAT. It is desperately needed. I would like to stick with one primary color, just for impact. Then maybe one or two other colors as accents, but will be used minimally for fun. But what do I know?

I think jewel tones would be great. What a beautiful venue. I picked red as one of my colors since there was no way I could exclude it from the wedding. I figured, why fight it?

CJ - wow it seems like your brainstorming is coming together.

Just IMO, your reception room is more ''old'' style than modern (i don''t mean old in a bad way!) So I think

1) If you go with the jewel/darker tones maybe not do the teal since I usually feel that teal is a more "modern" color. I would stick with red/oranges. I''m also Chinese so I totally get the wanting red in your color scheme! I am also not partial to the teal/chinese red look, but love the idea of red/orange hues in that beautiful mansion dining room in late Sept!

2) If you go pale pinks, I would keep everything in that palette (i.e. not mix pale pink with chinese red). Pale pinks, blushes, light greenry, ivorys. I think that would really give it that vintage kick and be super lovely.

As a side note I would try to go with RED (fire engine red, chinese red, deep reds) or Pale Pinks, but stay away from using the hot pinks/magentas as your base color because I think that, again, those are more "modern" colors.

3) Love your centerpiece ideas. The candle sticks are too cute and a great way to keep costs down! Have you thought about maybe using clear ones instead? The ones below are from CB2. Modern but if paired with a more vintagy flower centerpiece I think it would look nice.

Sorry I dont'' have any other pics right now. I''ll try to root around and post some if I find any. I should have some because I am doing a hues of pink as well!

doh, picture came out blank.

Ooooh, I missed that one about your BM''s already chose those pretty dark purple dresses. I found some pics of flowers though that kind have a purplish tint to them that I think might go really well in your two color scheme options.

This one has some fantastic deep red roses and purpleish cala lillies, and also those other light purple things (my flower knowledge is so vast can''t you tell?) I thought it would complement the girls dresses. and then you could use the dark roses for centerpieces too.
