Brick & Mortar stores selling lead-filled worthless rubies

Re: Brick & Mortar stores selling lead-filled worthless rubi

Did I say "lead-filled"? I meant to say "glass-filled".

A dozen apologizes. That's what I get posting before I'm fully awake..

Um.... duh? I thought this was common knowledge! (Not you, the article).

Common knowledge for most CSers but not so for the masses, unfortunately. :knockout:

Yes, as well as other types treated stones at B&M stores, like diffused sapphires.

It is true, CSers are a rare breed it seems. I don't even bother looking at most B&M stores for gems anymore.

I look more at their discount merchandise for semi mounts. I sometimes find good deals on those, as they're typically the same settings I get on ebay for the same price. I like the Effy settings, but you can throw the center stone away, or give it to your kid to play with. It's usually some irradiated, or highly treated gem.

I recall a similar article was posted by a PS-er last year, . If they say Natural and Real which means it is not Synthetic(some parts anyway), they are right, but if they say Untreated....then. Just like Real and Natural OJ does not mean it did not go through processing or squeezing and mixed with impurities, in this case the sweat of the squeezer :silenced: or bugs, although it says 100% natural.

Well, at least Macy's advertises this one as diffused.

This ruby ring isn't advertised as such, but in the notations, it talks about rubies being lead glass filled, but most consumers wouldn't know what that is anyways.

I like that at least they also explain a little about the process, even if most people don't really care or notice.
