There was some kind of baby wiggly thing in my lunch today. It was quite peculiar, kind of yellow but with red slime around it, and only about the size of my diamond curled up. The chances are very slim that this thing, if I happen to have swallowed any of its siblings before noticing it was there, could hurt me. But I can''t stop thinking about it. YUUUUUUUCK!

What''s the grossest most disgusting thing you have ever found in your food?

I was eating some ice cream from a carton and I started chewing on something hard, so I spit it out, and it was a finger(or toe) nail clipping!

Talk about nasty!

Now that really is nasty. Well, at least I''m not thinking about the wormy thing anymore.

Lol! Well, I''m glad I could be of help for ya!

Now I''ll probably have to go schedule some more therapy sessions.....j/k! It happened a long time ago, but I still get the willies when I think about it!

Well in my early 20's I was eating at this popular barbecue joint and a roach crawled out of my fries, it was awful!!!! I never have been back to that place since!!!

Then when Hubby and I went to Big Island of Hawaii we saw the biggest roach I have ever seen run across the wall at this very nice/fancy restaurant. I screamed but people didn't flinch even though other diners saw it, maybe it is common, who knows but it was gross!!! I also will never recommend this place

Not too long ago I went to this Thai restaurant that is very good and 2 roaches ran across the wall; I have not been back since
32.gif
and this place is popular, ewwww!!!

In high school I worked at this restaurant where this place had german roaches and they were in the hot tea machine and everyone would order hot tea too. A waitress tried cleaning it and killing them but they wouldn't die; I was sooooo grossed out by it. I never ate there and didn't work there too long thank goodness, but I think restaurants that use lots of oil's attract them for some reason. It is just sooo gross; I bet it happens more often then we think but i might be wrong (or at least hope so).
14.gif
So often I want to go check out the kitchen before I order no matter how clean/nice the place is!!!

I hate hate roaches and I don't know why I have this happen to me, but I sometimes have nightmares because of these incidents.

I know I shouldn''t have read any of these posts

I once opened a box of pancake mix, and there were little black specs all through it. On closer inspection, they were bugs, and not just one kind, but a mix of ants, little flies, and wormy bugs! I don''t know why, but the fact that they were all in there together freaked me out more than anything...like the bugs were cohabitating and taking over!

Ugghhhh

Oh HECK no! I would soooooo freak out if I saw a roach or fly! I did find a caterpillar (EW!) in an artichoke I cooked... luckily I hadn't eaten any of it yet, and I didn't eat any for a long time after. I am so OCD about my food (thanks mom!)... and my aunt's stories working in disease control made it worse! (The worst is people getting brain worms from sushi BLAH!)

My grandma once bit into a strawberry and a pincher bug was in there... now all my strawberries gotta be cut in half lol. I ate ants by accident- they were on the glass of ice tea which I picked up and drank from without looking... very bitter. My dad accidentally ate some canned doggie stew.

I'm not sure what I ate on a misison trip to southeast asia that got me so sick and I DON'T WANNA KNOW! I do know I ate fish sauce (made from rotting fish) and at a fishing village some plant that's an opiate. There were a lot of things I saw that I was NOT going to eat! Cuttle fish... big steroidal chickens... grasshoppers... maggot cakes.

The worst I've eaten was at youth camp... the DARES by the campfire... a glob of lard... and yeah, it's even more disgusting than it sounds! I started gagging! It was NAAAAZ.TYYYYY!!!!!!! AND it earned me the nickname Princess Lardo! LOL But I think I would still choose it over menudo (tripe) or cow tongue or pig snout or haggis or diniquan or something nasty like that.

Next time I'm in Asia, I actually made a promise to try the durian fruit... it's been described as "very tasty once you get past the smell" or "really good once you get accustomed to it." What the?! Why eat something that isn't good to begin with? I swear I thought the smell of it was from rotting meat. It's prohibited in hotels and planes lol.

Actually, I think the absolute worst is what I saw on the travel channel... I can't remember where this is a delicacy, so if someone knows please let me know.... anyway, you take this cheese and let it sit and there are worms (or maggot-like things?) in this cheese bowl thing... they eat the cheese, poop it out so the poop cheese is softer than the original cheese... and so this continues til you have this super duper soft poop cheese... then it's time to dig in with crackers (?) and you scoop up the poop cheese and worms.

Bon Appetit!!!

I bet this cheese would be good with that coffee that they make from monkey excrement...
Luwak Coffee is made from coffee cherries that have been eaten by common palm civets, which use their keen sense of smell to select the choicest and ripest beans. The digestion process removes the flesh from the crimson Sumatran berry and the beans, supposedly sweeter as a result of having passed through the animal, are hand-collected from the jungle floor.
This coffee is around $160 per pound.

Oh, and I bet they charge big $$$$ for the cheese too!!!!

An entire kitchen cabinet infested with weevils.

''Nuff said.

I once boiled an artichoke and had a 3" slug crawl out of it 1/2 way through my eating it. It took me about a year to be able to eat artichokes again.

EW! I hadn''t heard of that before... live worm cheese poop or monkey poop coffee... give me cheez whiz and sanka instead!

Not me, but my friend. My friend one day woke up thirsty, so he grabbed an already opened can of coke. He gulped the whole thing, and realized the can, his hands, and the inside of his stomach was crawling with ants. He immediately grabbed a bottle of rum and drowned them. I know ants are not that dirty, but I still don''t want any crawling in my tummy!

<<<< That would be me if I found any of the nasties that you have all mentioned!

In grad school one of my roommates put a china teapot away without checking that it was clean and empty. Weeks later, trying to track down the putrid smell in the kitchen, we found the teapot, complete with dead mouse that had crawled in and drowned in the inch of leftover tea at the bottom of the pot.

Alright, I must share.
BF had a roommate for over a year. Well this roommate and his girlfriend went on vacation, first they left a pizza box and plates on the floor for us to take care of for their week excursion.

But after a few days we kept having problems with fruit flies. We live up in Alaska, and it was the middle of winter, it was odd that there were fruit flies in BF''s apartment. So BF noses around in the kitchen and comes to find that his roommates girlfriend left the grounds from making some coffee in the pot. Thus fruit flies came about and it was the most disgusting thing!!!! Ugh, BF just threw it all outside in the snow, I was still grossed out though.

My old roommate making some noodles one day, then leaving them on the stove in the water for over a day was gross...then putting them in the fridge and then eating them later!!! I don''t understand other people, and it is hard not to give any input.

HI:

I don''t think I ate a bowl of rice in Thailand that didin''t have a cooked "friend" in it somewhere.....not to mention the cockroaches jumping from isle to isle when the food carts came out on a unnamed airline we used while travelling there.....

Sister was having her favorite bowl of cereal for breaky and a a little furry visitor who had seen better days fall into her bowl...

While working in the hospital, we used to find little green slugs in our salads from time to time....

I dunno know about you but hair is almost more offenseive to me than bugs. We were visiting a colleague studying at Stanford one year and ate at at Chinese restaurant that in each dish had NO less that three hairs present; that was a total barfer......couldn''t eat a bite....

Sharon, that is so gross. Well, I guess I am in good company (if you can call it that) after reading this. I also, manage to attract hair in my food

and I do want to barf!

I can''t stand it!!! I much rather find a little bug in my apple than hair in my food, that is just disgusting

I have had my fair share of nasty stories...when I was in high school I used to work at subway in the mall and the chinese place down the hall always had mice and roaches from their veggies sitting in their storage area. They would crawl out into the hallways and into the other stores...nasty....

Also one friend and I were going to go get a sampler platter at a place that everyone knows....a place that celebrates a day of the week...if you know what I mean...does not have a "gem" of a name...the other one...
We went and ordered the platter after shopping and I was eating a chicken wing and it was so nasty because I was plucking feathers out of my mouth....so gross!!!!!!

Last yesr FI and I went out for Indian. We ordered apps and entrees, but were too full for our entrees so we took those to go. The next day I reheated my chicken korma and started to chow down. I hit a bite with a wierd flavor and texture and figuring it was a cardamom pod, I spit it out. It was a cockroach!!!!! I actually chewed it a bit before spitting it out and realizing what it was! Thank god I nuked it really well.

So gross, but I still love Indian food.....I''ll never go back to the place we went to though.

Lipstick on coffee cups or drink glasses in restaurants just grosses me out, ''cause you know they''ve been serving people from dishes that weren''t washed!!! But I can top that. . . when the busboys/waiter/waitress clears the table, we''ve all seen them put trash from the tables and the silverware in the cups/glasses. . . well, I''ve actually received drinks with stuff floating in them because the server grabbed a glass from the busboy tub and filled it. Fortunately for them (and me!) I''ve never actually taken a drink from one of those dirty glasses.

I don''t eat at my local (insert well-known breakfast restaurant here). Or the other just as well-known place. Every town I''ve ever been in has a nasty version of those restaurants; they are gross across the nation.

And, if you''ve ever watched 20/20 or PrimeTime, you''ve seen the exposes the''ve done on restaurant kitchens (franchise places common to every US city). Don''t complain about your food . . . they''ll spit on it, pee in it, booger it, stick bugs in it, etc.

I''m the same way. I''ll calmly throw away bug infested food. If there is hair, they are going to get an earful from me.

Skippy-would you mind giving me some hints as to where these places are so I don''t go there? Pleeeease?
14.gif

The worst I''ve gotten is a industrial size staple in my pasta once. I bit down on it-ouch. I''m ok with bugs surprisingly enough, but not ok with hair. Hair disturbs me. Who knows the last time it was washed? Disgusting. Cockroaches are pretty bad though.

As a culinary person, I''d say that most of the restaurants out there are ok, even the chains such as the one that was "featured" in the movie "Waiting.". Which is one of the jobs that I had once upon a time-waiting tables at the restaurant that spawned "Shenanigans".

I once had a huge rubber band in my soup at a popular chain restaurant once so I think weird stuff happens everywhere.
Hair grosses me out; I was eating at this super nice restaurant in Taos for my birthday and halfway through my meal a hair was in it; I was so grossed out I couldn't wait to get out of that place quick enough!!!!

I do think we have some really good restaurants too!

ETA: FC, gross on the milkshake
14.gif

I''ll have to think on that one Skippy...Thanks for the info though!

I once got a long black hair in a milkshake in Chicago once. Imagine sucking on a straw expecting to get a chocolate/caramel milkshake and getting a black hair that''s longer than the straw and has milkshake sticking to it.

Needless to say, I didn''t drink any more of it--and this was at the very beginning of it too.

During our summer vacation last year to the beach, we had 2 bad experiences. We always eat out the first night of vacation, so we went across the street from our condo to a pizza place. I ordered a side salad, which I found a HUGE black hair in about half way through. The next night, we decided to go out again since the first night wasn''t so great, so we went to a pretty upscale seafood restaurant. DH and I both got a pasta dish with lobster, shrimp and scallops. DH was ALMOST done when he turned some pasta on his fork, only to find a well done fly stuck in the sauce! The manager came over, apologized and offered to make DH something else. At this point, we wanted nothing else but the check please. When the check came, we were still charged for 2 dinners. I asked the manager, he said since DH had eaten almost the entire thing, and he offered to make something else and we didn''t want it, he wasn''t taking it off. Well, I had already had 2 margaritas, so I proceeded to get a little loud at the hostess stand where there were many people waiting, and the manager finally decided to comp the entire check, I suppose rather than have everyone walk out! We still refer to the 2 restaurants as hair-salad and fly-pasta. Needless to say, we ate in the rest of the vacation.
