Buyer Beware... If you're non-American, think twice before purchasing from the US

There's a reason that Americans are not signing up for jobs picking crops. And it's not because they are lazy. Immigrants fill most of those jobs and there is a reason for that too. Immigrants contribute significantly to our economy.

If the US is planning on manufacturing products like iphones with a thousand tiny parts, we better have an immigration policy that does not demonize the workers we need.

Because Americans have never filled those slots? Wrong, they have and they still do in many industries.

Immigration policies that require application and acceptance, sponsorship, command of the English language, enrollment in payrolls that deduct for FICA, Workers compensation, taxes, ability to pass the test for a driver's license for vehicle operation, valid car insurance and employment are demonic? We definitely live in different worlds. Why do Americans fill all those requirements if they are unimportant and demonic?

I'm for successful, full American citizenship for those willing to attend to the details which will make for a wonderful life here. That is if the gangs that have infiltrated are successfully removed.

I don’t think research and studies in children’s brain cancers are foolish. As well as additional cancer studies that have been halted. I’m sure if you had cancer you might see this differently. None of it makes sense.

Sadly, I've seen more cancer in our family than most here will ever see. I don't wish it on anyone.

From AI which is a diluted synopsis from the NIH:

"No, it's not accurate to say that all cancer studies in the USA have been halted. While there have been some disruptions due to government funding freezes and other policy changes, many cancer research projects, including clinical trials, are still ongoing. Some studies have been delayed or affected, and there are concerns about the long-term impact of these changes, but it's not a complete cessation of research."

So there are "concerns" about delays but there is no real proof that cancer funding for studies was completely halted.

I don’t think research and studies in children’s brain cancers are foolish. As well as additional cancer studies that have been halted. I’m sure if you had cancer you might see this differently. Many of the cuts that are being made are negligent and malevolent. A slash and burn approach. We should be leaders in this field. This is not making America …(fill in the slogan).

I don't think nap studies compare very well to brain cancer to which I lost my father-in-law and sister.

Studies are ongoing and some have ended earlier including this clinical trial for glioblastoma which ceased. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9158304/
I would like to see the exact funding that was excised to see if some will be restored and the reasons others were eliminated.

Interesting that the nap studies, et al, weren’t slashed. Why do you suppose that is? As someone living with breast cancer, this one really pisses me off. Please don’t come at me with another excuse.

I don't waste my time with excuses. I lost my sister-in-law at age 40 to breast cancer with 3 younger children at home, brother-in-law buried on his 35th birthday from colon cancer with 5 young children home, the oldest 10, baby was 5 months, I lost another sister-in-law to breast cancer about 6 years ago, age 60's, I've had 3 siblings with papillary thyroid cancer, I mentioned earlier loss of my father-in-law and sister to brain cancer. I currently have a sister with colorectal cancer who probably had a very short life span due to the type and already advance stage according to her oncologist. She is being treated with an immunotherapeutic drug regiment which is only successful on a certain type of cancer. This drug has given her three additional years so far with no surgery or chemotherapy only a great amount of body pain and aches particularly the days following treatment. It brings me to my knees in gratitude and that is why I'm wondering what type of funding or dismissal of studies are affected and how. I also have a brother-in-law who has battled melanoma for over 4 years but it appears to be under control finally, due to another immunotherapeutic drug. He receives regular PET scans.

I will pray for your successful treatment and hope only the best for you.

Insider trading by members of Congress and others in positions of public trust who may in the course of their service be privy to inside information is an easy problem to fix. Trading individual stocks should not be allowed. And there is now a bipartisan bill to address the issue called the No Corruption in Government Act. Let's see where it goes and who supports it, who brings it to the floor for a vote or denies it a vote.

We haven't recovered fully from the last time, we permanently lost a percentage and all of our tariff money went to farm subsidies. We lost the last trade war.
That share loss was a well deserved subtle warning.
We'll lose this one, too. Why? We need them for different things. Materially.
We need their vast array, they buy mostly food from us.
They can invest in other countries for that production. They did and they will.

Farmers aren't getting the subsidies this time. Our gov't cut most of them because they don't understand how they function and who materially benefits. It is 'welfare', but not for who most Americans think.

Martha Stewart went to prison for just the hint of insider trading on a much smaller scale.

The immediate and real danger is the weakening of our bond market. Our inflation ties to the ten yr yield. It's gone up.
In that graph, up is bad.

Almost 160 billion more is being spent on our budget than last administration. Guess where it's going? I would say surprising, but it isn't. It's our 85+yr pattern of failure. On steroids.
The Efficiency Dog didn't find. That dog don't hunt, but was able to dig up yet another 6 billion contract for the exploding rockets. Funny, that.
Americans and Lucy with the football.
But don't worry, that 3 million per weekend excursion cost is enough to have paid for Meals on Wheels that we cut, for almost a decade.

Other countries' gov'ts are smart enough to maneuver. Telling true? We aren't.

They keep talking chess, not realizing that we're the pigeon.

The farm subsidies would be unwarranted if the trade with other countries wasn't blocked. I drive by fields laying fallow in the summer months that should be teeming with crops but farmers are paid to do nothing since other countries have trade restrictions that block their shipments. If one is a savvy farmer, it's an easy life since the property is quite often real estate taxed at a much lower rate and they can most often sell the property at a high rate for development when retirement is imminent. If this is a corporate farm with hundreds of acres, they are even more aware of the low hanging fruit. We're pigeons all right, we are pigeon-holed by trade.

This thread shows the incredible divide in our country.
From what I know- the last trade war caused China to develop a relationship with Brazil for soy beans.
This lead to disaster for American soybean farmers.
Once the relationship between Brazil and China bore fruit, there was no reason to buy our soybeans any more.

Clearly other people see this differently.
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel! Just that at about half of us realize it’s an oncoming train. The other half sees us “hair on fire”.

Getting the “libs” to freak out? It seems to be a goal. It works so well.

The outcome will be huge conglomerates buying for pennies.
Get ready for Brawndo because nobody wants our tainted meat and chemically laced food stuffs.
WIC, USAID and others are farm subsidies. Not welfare subsidies.
They gone.
We lost over 100 tons of food to rot last year, no one to pick them. No one to pick them but our children. See Florida.
It will be much worse this year. They can't even plant the crops. No money for seed or sprout.

Anyway we blinked today and the rich are turning on the administration.
Bats in the belfry? Whispers on the wind. They're getting louder.

The insider trading scandal is heating up! The odds of recession going up, up, up.
Americans were lied to. They're maybe starting to figure it out.
What with the increased budget by almost 200 billion and almost 6 trillion in new debt planned...

Buckle up, my American buttercups, you ain't gonna liiiiike it.

How's that debt clock ticking now?

@ItsMainelyYou Who's this Lucy?
I'm vaguely aware hearing of once hearing about a thing they call football, but I didn't know there's a Lucy associated with football, or who this Lucy is.

The only famous Lucys I'm aware of is
I Love Lucy
Lucy from Peanuts
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Honest question.
Not snark.

Probably like an end of life analogy, some will cower and slide down the drain that is much more deadly than tariffs and the rest want to go out fighting for life and quality and fairness.

Who's to say who is wrong, the proof will be in the pudding. Did anyone see that other country has restricted daily stock sales?

I think this is the animal that is being chased with cancer research and many dollars are being lost for the patient. Auditing is required to track where the funding dollars are being spent.

AI:
It's difficult pinpoint an exact figure for how much cancer research funding has been "siphoned off and wasted" due to the complex nature of research funding and varying definitions of what constitutes a waste. However, studies show that a significant portion of cancer research funding may not be directly benefiting patients, and some argue that a substantial amount is spent on administrative overhead.

To pay the interest on the debt?
AI

The U.S. government currently spends an average of $3 billion per day on interest payments related to the national debt. This figure includes both interest on debt held by the public and interest on intragovernmental debt.

There is no such thing as a "soybean farmer". Farmers can grow numerous crops and aren't categorized to a single crop.

From a local Minnesota newspaper

WELLS, MINN. — Everything seems to be humming along on Darin Johnson’s farm. A trencher lays irrigation tile in a field hugging Interstate 90, the highway loping over these southern Minnesota flatlands. An 18-wheeler fills up with golden grain. Planting is around the corner.
Beneath the routine, anxiety lurks. This soybean farm is on the front lines of America’s trade war with China.

I’m no expert….. but people growing soybeans are concerned

There is a reason for the earlier slide in sales and if you do an internet search,

Brazil’s Increasing Soybean Output Keeps Markets Well Supplied

you will find it the reason for the expansion in Brazil's sales. I suppose if we give the product away to outstrip Brazil, we could subsidize the farmers to make up for... oh, wait. We already do that.

I encourage you to read after an internet search for:

I only the issues with soybean sales were linked to the tariff, we'd have some luck. But unless we undercut Brazil, which is most likely undercutting us right now and we sell for less than profitable we're still behind the eight ball. As I said, this article provides the true picture of what's going on.

That is the newspaper's label, soil cannot insist it will only grow soybeans.

I read that Brazil is the largest producer of soybean, not the US.
I wonder if China can satisfy their demand with upping their shipments from Brazil and cut out the US?

I am not a farmer, know nothing about farming. Is it easy or hard for a farm to stop growing soybeans and grow something else?

Edit: I just read from Bloomberg News that this past week China upped their soybean imports from Brazil, so it appears they do not need the crop from the US. The current administration has threatened countries like Brazil who are stepping in to supply the US shortfall. O boy, the fun begins.

If you have the time to catch the headline I suggested from Forbes, you'll gain much perspective as to what is occurring in the agricultural area. Brazil is able to uncut our production and I suspect prices. Soybeans and corn are profitable in the States. There will be no incentive to buy our products when prices are uncut by cheaper trade deals.

That is what I am afraid of. Will not be able to put the toothpaste back in the tube once it is out.

Yeah, if only that was the case. Problem is Brazil has put itself in a position to fill the need and make a nice deal because of the volume they are now producing. No country is going to pay more for products when they don't have to, especially that country. The USA was losing this battle before tariffs ever hit the deck. The little ace in the hole we have is that China does prefer USA soybeans.

Okay, I'm not savvy at all about farming, but isn't this part of the reason why increasing tariffs on China isn't a good thing, since that caused them to increase tariffs on the U.S. ? So the soybean importers in China will go to Brazil to purchase? Maybe I don't understand what you mean when you say prices are "uncut". But I also think that someone said the last trade war caused China to develop a relationship with Brazil for soy beans. So won't this cause Brazil to up their soybean production, or even have other South American countries start growing them and selling them to China as well (if that's an option from an agricultural point)? I really just don't understand all of this because to me, it seems, that the U.S. can't be the only place on earth that can produce some of these things that other countries import. So why will people continue to buy from us when there are other options that are more cost effective? Who goes to the most expensive store when they can buy the same item for less money elsewhere?

Brazil now has the ability to produce all the soybeans China wants and needs. They also have the ability to undercut )price lower) USA costs. This can push us out of the running alone without the tariff factor. As I mentioned to WillyDiamond, the little ace in the hole we have is that China prefers the American soybeans but that could change too.

okay, so when you said "uncut" you meant "undercut". That makes more sense now. I think we were saying basically the same thing.

“Asking the current administration to reconsider.”
That’s laughable. There is no consideration or deliberation in these dartboard decisions. As long as he considers himself winning.

Will he might but again this is part of the ridiculousness and chaos. For example, I wonder if they truly did not think about the iPhone situation and then when they realized it, they say “oh OK we will exempt electronics” or “ oops didn’t think about the soybean thing”. They’re really flying by the seat of their pants and it just makes us looks stupid and incompetent.
