Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

13w 4d

icekid - I vote boy for you!

Just had to drop in quickly to say that I am so excited to find out that I could not sleep :cheeky: :cheeky: Kid on Christmas, anyone?! Hahaha.. back with news later!! This day at work is sooooo going to drag.

Hello Mamas to be :) I just wanted to drop in and share some exciting news on my family front. My sister is expecting TWINS :) and due about 4 months after me. She had a missed miscarriage last year. Her gyno joked with her that god took one away and gave it right back! She is thrilled. This makes baby number 3 and 4 for her. She has two boys already, and desperately wants a girl. I won't lie, I will laugh when she calls me and tell me the twinkies are both boys! It will be a very exciting baby year for our family.

Thanks for the congrats everyone...still no picture, as i just got a new computer and need to upload some photos.

puppmom--you look great, love that bump!

Allie--congrats to your sister--how cool to have so many babies in the family so close together. I hope your sister gets a pair of girlies to go with that pair of boys. i couldn't imagine 4 of one gender (boys or girls!)- :)

DD--picture an upright squat with legs apart and your butt almost touching the floor and the top of your thigh against your upper body, only I was lying on my back. it's kinda like the stir-up position only completely flat on the bed and the knees up really, really high (it totally goes against gravity, but my midwife said that it sometimes works wonders on a posterior birth, and for me it did). I think i tried every possible position before that so i was SO relieved that one of them actually worked!

kate goes for her ultrasound this aft. My fingers are crossed everything looks good

SS - congrats on BOY!!

Icekid - I'm guessing GIRL for you!

Pupp - you look GREAT!! So close :appl:

Hello to everyone else :wavey:

Feeling a little better today after taking yesterday off and relaxing as much as possible. I felt kind of guilty being home w/ the nanny watching my son, but I needed a day to rest and do nothing. I'm glad I did because I'm in better spirits today.

Just popping in to wish Jas and Kate good luck at the u/s this afternoon!

Me centric post here...I've been having contractions ALL day - on average 5-6 an hour and Nolan hasn't been moving nearly as much as he usually does. AND, I'm spotting (blood streaked CM) but I'm pretty sure that's because the doc checked my cervix last night. I'm giving this kiddo another hour to get moving and I'm calling the doc line! Hopefully, this threat will get him going.

Puppmom - How are you doing now?

Hello all you beautiful pregnant ladies!!

I haven't posted in ages, but now that the constant stream of visitors is dying down, I'm getting a bit of time back to myself. I have yet to write out my birth story, but I thought that I'd pop back in with some things that I've found useful these very first few weeks - Nora is just a day shy of being 4 weeks old.

So far things have been pretty great. The babe slept through the first couple of weeks allowing for an easier adjustment period to our newest member. I was also extremely fortunate in that my hormones were fairly under control and that breastfeeding didn't pose any significant problems. Now that she's becoming more and more alert, she has begun to have some periods of fussiness, but nothing too severe. Definitely the biggest negative thus far is a serious case of cabin fever. Since Nora's birth, DC (everywhere?!?) has been experiencing nearly constant blistering heat. Since newborns can't regulate their body temperatures, we've been mostly homebound. Not what I was expecting with a June baby. We sneak out for walks in the early morning and in the evenings, but sometimes (last couple of days) the high temperatures have even thwarted those minor adventures. I'm hoping for some cooler relief soon, so that perhaps we can have a more interesting outing than trader joe's and target . . .

So, as for what has really come in handy:

1) Night stand. Yup. If for some reason you don't have one, get one. It's like my nighttime (and sometimes daytime) center of operations. From my feeding log, to the breast pump, to all manner of other things, I don't know what I'd do without it.

2) Baby K'tan. This is a soft cotton baby carrier that I've used for all my baby outings. I'm not a fan of the snap&go, especially if I have to run to a store (how do you push a stroller and a cart). These little loops of fabric are easy to use (after an initial learning curve) and keep the babe snuggled and leave me free to do what I need to do. I also wear her around the house if I'm cleaning, doing laundry, etc.

3) Cloth diaper prefolds. I think that I got this advice from the PS ladies. When I registered for them and received them, I had no idea just how much I'd use them. Mostly during feedings to absorb milk that on occassion goes everywhere, for baby spit-up, to cover the lamp next to my bed to dampen the light. seriously, use them for everything.

4) waterproof pads. along the same line as the above. we put these down on her changing pad, her bassinet, and any other place that is prone to numerous baby *accidents* helps to reduce changing the cover 4 times a day.

5) kimono shirts. Nora wore these almost exclusively for her first week of life. In the beginning, they are so much easier than trying to put something over the head.

6) A journal/log. We started one at the hospital during my labor. We record little bits about the day and I also jot down her feeding times because otherwise I would have no idea

7) muslin blankets. yes. they are as good as people say. perfect weight for summer. soft. great for early swaddling. blocking the sun. covering up feedings. on. and. on.

And I think it was Allie that was having uppababy remorse. We have that stroller and it is a dream. I have used it with the bassinet as much as possible and I love it. The ride is so smooth. The sunshade is amazing. It can easily go across grass fields which has been super handy in bringing our pups to the dog park. Fits in our trunk. Though, at this stage, I do find it easier as stated above to use a carrier when out on errands. I hope that you love it once you get to use it!

Here's a little photo of Nora during *tummy time* lazy, lazy baby

Oh, lulu, how adorable!!

pupp~ hoping to see an update from you! Hope you're doing well wherever yo are!

Lovelylulu, thanks for the pointers! And Nora is gorgeous! Your photos never disappoint.

Just got home from L&D - I was contracting all day as close as 5 minutes apart. That in itself wasn't worrying in me, but Nolan just wasn't himself. No real action all day and he's usually all over the place. I even ate a piece of cake and NOTHING. I called the doctor and they asked me to meet them in triage. They monitored my heartrate and contractions and Nolan's heartrate. He looked great on the monitor and was tolerating the contractions well. His heartrate was doing what it should with periodic accelerations and decelerations. I was contracting every 5-8 minutes but they're confident it's false labor for a few reasons - they're about a 2 on my pain scale and they never get any worse AND only part of my uterus gets hard. They checked my cervix (TWICE - seriously 3 cervical exams in less than 24 hours - yuck!) and both docs who checked agreed I'm 3cm dilated and 70% effaced and minus 2 (whatever that means!). They said that's not *crazy* and I could still go another few weeks. They reiterated that while they want Nolan to hang in there a little while longer, they wouldn't do anything to stop labor other than rest at this point. They also said that just because the doc last night said I'm 2cm and today they say I'm 3cm, doesn't necessarily mean I progressed overnight - it's pretty subjective and easy to be off by a centimeter either way.

So...send us some "bake a little longer" dust!

18+6

This is going to be a me-centric post, but I knew you ladies would want to know........

Baby Jumper is officially a member of Team Blue! And in form with his Jumper name, the kid would not stay still through the entire ultrasound. It took the tech well over an hour to get shots of everything. He is going to be a handful. The tech wished us luck hehe.

Interestingly, this was consistent with my two baby dreams though I did not have a strong gut feeling either way.

Also love that he has a ready-made for life BFF in that his cousin (also a little boy) will be a month or two older.

Pics tomorrow... we got a 4d shot of his face  (which is surprisingly non-skeletor for a 19 weeker)

Pupp~ glad that all is well! I know you probably are ready, but hope he stays in a while longer!! I've had false labor so many times, it's so frustrating. Just a couple days ago I had it for several hours. I haven't gone to the hospital for it because it never got beyond about a 5 on my pain scale (a very useful tool for those of us with tons of BH).

Icekid~ Congrats on team BLUE!

DH was surprised that I posted his little comment. He asked if it was too racy for PS!

btw-I used the little font colour selector so we'll see if it works.

Icekid, yay for TEAM BLUE!

SS, yeah, these contractions are GETTING OLD! I've learned that even the doc guidelines of 6 an hour for more than two hours are too loose for me. That happens to me all the time. My worry today was the lack of movement but all was well in that department too...thank goodness!

11 weeks 0 days

Ahhh!! IceKid, I knew it!!! For some reason I just pictured Jumper as a boy....soo happy for you and your two men!! ;) I can't wait to see the ultrasound pics!! Congrats, mama!

Pupp, I'm glad all is well! I'm sending "bake a little longer" vibes your way....hopefully he stays in long enough to mature a bit more, but not so long that you're ready to send him an eviction notice! hehe!

Lulu - thanks so much for the helpful new mommy tips!! I am absorbing all the info I can as we prepare for this little one....words of wisdom/experience are SOO welcome!! :) Oh, and she is ADORABLE. Look at those sweet rosebud lips!!

cdt - don't feel guilty about your day of rest!! A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, and sometimes that involves someone else taking care of the kiddo while you get some much needed R&R.

Jas - I hope Kate's ultrasound went well today!! I can't wait to see pics of her!

AllieLuv - wow, congrats on sister's twins!! There will be sooo many new babes in your family this year...awesome!!! :) My sister had twins too, they're both boys. She had them her 1st pregnancy, then finished up with a singleton (also a boy). The singleton was a breeze for her, since she was accustomed to doing everything x2 the first time around!

LV - congrats on a great NT scan!! I can't wait till mine (one more week!)....must be so fun to see so much of the baby!!

SplitShank - congrats on TEAM BLUE!!! You and IceKid both!! So you did have a feeling the whole time?? We've both been feeling "girl" the whole time...we'll see!! I wonder how accurate "mommy hunches" end up being....Ohh, and I must agree, Blizzards are way better than McFlurrys. A McFlurry will do in a pinch, but given the choice I'll always go Blizzard.

----------------------------------------

Alright Ladies, get ready, because my 11 week belly pic from tonight (dressed up to go out for dinner) is kinda like "HELLO"!! I think the belly grew quite a bit over the past week, even! Apparently I'm going to be one of those that is definitely showing by the beginning of the 2nd tri.

Oh, and you know how I thought my nausea was getting better? Yeah, today sucked. LOL. It was a 2 doses of zofran kind of day. The past few days I've been getting away with little to no zofran, but for some reason, all day today was like being 8 weeks preggo all over again. At least it seems the bad days are getting fewer and further between.

lulu- Nora is so precious!
Jas- Congrats on the birth of your LO- Katrine is a lovely name!

just dropping by to say congrats on all the new little babies!! :appl:

SS & Icekid- congrats on team blue!

Pupp- you look great! Sending baking vibes your way!

Lulu- thank you so much for the helpful info- your daughter is adorable!

Hope everyone else is doing well and welcome to all the newly preggos!

***************

not much going on here- 9 weeks to go!! Besides my insane need to nest (ie cleaning out the linen closet at 5:30am  ) everything is going well!

17 weeks and we know the sex!

went to find out the sex of the baby today. it wasn't a medical scan covered by insurance but the u/s technician did some measurements. HBP above 160, head and abdominal circumference were measured and found to be within average. apparently the length of femur should measure within half a cm of the foot length and that was dead on. my placenta is posterior so she said I should be able to feel movements when the baby weighs 500g (which is around 20w). then the baby had to be in a more desirable position so she made me go pee (because the walking back and forth to the toilet often gets the baby moving). and then we found out our little squatter is a...

GIRL

and instead of belly pics, here are some pics of our daughter. it's in Dutch, but you can see the 3 lines.

blizzards sound delicious, and would be perfect in the heat we're experiencing. I'll definitely try one out when I go to the States in Sep.

icekid - yay for BOY! I only thought it would be because the name "Jumper" made me think of a boy. does it match your Chinese gender prediction? mine does. can't wait to see your 3D pic.

HOU - I love your belly. I just learned yesterday that in South Africa they (Afrikaans people) call it a "boepie" (prounounced boo-pee). isn't that cute?

lovelylulu - lovelyNORA !

and congrats to split_shank for joining team blue. who will join my team?

icekid - Congrats on team blue! We're convinced at this point that we're going to end up on the blue side too :cheeky:

noel - Yay for a girl!! Those u/s photos are awesome! So much better than our last round.

LV - I forgot to say earlier... but I'm so happy that you had a great NT :appl:

Pupp - I'm sending you some baking dust. I hope your LO can hold out a little longer for you.

lulu - Thank you so much for the list. It's very helpful to have such valuable input since we're in the beginning of thinking about a registry...

Hou - What a cute bump lady!!

On my end, we got our NT results this week. 1 in 7,100. Such a relief! So the mission for this week was to let the big secret out. I couldn't believe the number of people that were shocked we waited so long to come out. And we've already been getting a lot of strange looks when we say we're not finding out the sex. People seem to be really offended by it. So strange....

I hope all of you pretty mamas have a great weekend :wavey:

Kunzite - fantastic NT scan results! I actually enjoyed not knowing the sex. I guess since most people find out with the anatomy scan, if I waited for another 4 weeks I'd probably be dying to know, but I was until now very comfortable not knowing. but now of course I'm overjoyed with a girl (though would have been same with a boy). anyway, it isn't anyone's business but your own. if they want to know these things so badly they should go have their own kids.

hou~ You're too cute! That tiny bump is so perfect!

lulu~ You're getting so close! I know how hot I am so I hope that you're able to handle the heat for the rest of the summer!

Kunzite~ Yay for a great scan!!

Noel~ Welcome to team Pink! You'll be feeling that little girl very soon!!

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

FIL took JT down to the fair today and DH and I went and had a nice steak lunch. We figure it'll be a while before we can enjoy a leisurely meal together so we enjoyed it very much. However, when we were out, a woman walked up to me and YELLED "TWINS!!" Yeah, so obviously I've felt pretty darned cute for the rest of the afternoon.

I just had DH take my final belly pic for posting. I wish I could figure out how to do a collage because even I'm surprised at how I popped every few weeks.

So, without further ado, this is about as big as a person can get!!

ss39weeks1.jpg

SS, you are GLOWING!

Not too much longer, now. Sending you lots of good vibes...

pupp.. i didn't read all the posts so not sure if someone already said this but -2 station still means he's not all the way down. i believe that 0 station means that his head is flush with your cervix opening and +1 station means he's in the canal...but maybe icekid or someone can correct me. i was -1 about a week before labor. but basically -2 means he's down there but not like pushing thru! but 3cm..good job and 70% effacement, you never know it could just happen.

ss...love the belly!! just a few more days!

hou..you look so super cute girl..!

noel...awesome pix and congrats on a girl!

lulu, so funny you say nightstand is your operations base...our dining room table became base of operations since we spent so much time in the family room and kitchen! and ditto re: the burp cloths/diaper rags and the muslin blankets. we still use the A&A blankets for stroller cover, spit up mopup when out of the house, naptime during hot days, back support in the jumper, whatever. they and these 2 knitted blankets my mom made are pretty much the only blankets this kid uses.

Uggh.. need some advice here. MIL 'insisted' that we take DH's old crib since 'its in such good condition and its a beautiful oak crib, its not worth wasting money on a new one"... :angryfire: um... pretty sure there's been about 100 recalls in the last 27 years... Granted, I have not seen this crib but 1. I have one picked out, and its NOT oak, 2. The safety thing alone scares the crap out of me, 3. I have a feeling this is the beginning of many 'insists'... The easiest thing would be to tell her about safety issues, but seriously ladies, she does not get any part of realistic. DH knows exactly what I had in mind for a crib and understands the safety issues and totally wants a new one.. he doesn't really know what to tell her either. Any thoughts????

ss~ Tell Mil "no thankyou" and don't let her use it at her house either. Mil's hurt feelings are nothing to a strangulation hazard. Show her the current safety info and look at the crib together explaining WHY it is no longer usable. Maybe suggest that it could be reworked so that someday it could be a headboard or something.

I went through the same thing with MIL and Grandma in law. They got over it. In fact, Grandma in law bought us a beautiful real wood crib that we wanted but couldn't afford.

Good luck!!

So, Lily has given up on moving at this point. I didn't feel her once in about 4 hours. I laid down and started poking and prodding and JT took to yelling at my belly. She punched a couple times and that was it. A few hours later I did the same and she responded the same. It must be getting too tight to move! DH mimicked my walk for me today, unasked obviously. No wonder I keep colliding with walls though. Apparently once I get momentum it's hard to stop!

SS, you look great! Certainly not like there are twins in there...shame on that woman! So nice of your hubby to imitate your walk for a good laugh. I STILL forget that I can't suck this thing in and I'm constantly whacking it into stuff!

Mara, thanks for the info. You just don't realize how naive you are about something like this until everything the doc says makes your head spin! This whole progress thing just doesn't make logical sense to me. I thought in order for my cervix to dilate, Nolan needed to be head down pressing on it but, at -2, that doesn't seem like the case. Maybe the BH contrax are slowly dilating my cervix? I just hope all of this means a QUICK labor!

Split, DEFINITELY just tell MIL no thanks and SS is right - don't let her use it at her house. The slats of old cribs are too far apart to be safe for baby. It won't be the last time her feelings are hurt. I have similar issues with my mom. She KNOWS EVERYTHING and it's really hard to get the point across to her. Since she's MY mom though it's a lot easier to tell her like it is. Maybe DH can handle this first (of many) awkward conversations?

Noel, wow! A girl! Maybe the tides are turning and we'll get more team pink announcements soon! I can't wait to hear the name you and DH choose for your LO.

Icekid, if I haven't already congratulated you - yay for team blue! You have PLENTY of company. :naughty:

Hou, I can totally see the belly! Very cute! Hopefully that nausea lightens up and is completely gone in the next few weeks.

SS - you look wonderful. I agree with the glowing comment. You're going to meet your little girl soooo soon!

I was at the grocery store the other day and was standing in front of my cart to put my items on the conveyor belt. While I was doing this a disabled gentleman got behind me in line with his motorized scooter cart. He didn't leave very much room for me to get back around my cart to the front of it so that I could push the cart forward through to the bagger. Any way, I finally managed to do it, but only after the gentleman said (in a humorous tone), "suck it in" -- to which I replied, "oh sir, I really wish I could".
It really was kind of funny. I am starting to bump into things as well ... I've really popped out in front in the past couple of weeks.

Forget about the dang shopping cart! I can't reach the bottom and there's not enough room in the lane for me AND the cart.
