Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Turtle and Pupp, your baby boys are GORGEOUS. Congratulations!

cara- I completely understand wanting a longer name with a shorter, easier nickname. How about: Wesley (love), Colton/Colson, Nicholas, Harrison, Whitman, Griffin, Beckett, Cormac, Timothy, Travis, Dashiell, Sebastian. Any of those inspire?

     Noelr, She is adorable!!!!!!!

Cara-What about Sawyer, Riorden, or Teagen (I really love Beckett, Hudson and Oliver too though:-)

i haven't been on PS in ages (not a fan of the new format), but thought i'd let you all know that little miss abigail rose arrived on 8/23 at 2:53pm weighing in at a whopping 7lbs even (dh and i are both pretty small, so we couldn't believe we made a 7lb-er!!), and 19inches.

despite dilating at 26 weeks and contracting the entire pregnancy and being on somewhat modified bedrest, i ended up being induced at 39 weeks!! guess those progesterone shots were worth it. it was an EASY delivery...i was checked in at 8am, epidural and IVs started by 9am. i was 4.5 cm at checkin and contracting every 2min without the pitocin even started. i was GBS+ so they had to go slowly with the pit until i had the penicillin for 4 hours...at 1pm i was 6cm and 10cm at 2:30. i pushed for about 10min, and out she came. a 2nd degree tear, but otherwise easy-peasy. SOOOOO much better than my first l&d which lasted 24 hours, ended with horrible tearing, and a severe post-partum hemorrhage.

we are doing great. abby is an angel and so far, only wakes to eat and poop. big brother coby is doing great and can't stop kissing and hugging his sister. we are truly blessed!!

best of luck to all the soon-to-be mommies. i will be reading and following each of your stories!

One of my all time fave students was named Merritt! It's a cute name.

Don't know about Devlin...

I'm going to kill my DH. I have given him so many names....even weird ones like Baltazar just to see if I would get anything from him. He vetoes EVERYTHING.

cdt -- is your little boy named Alexander? That's one of 2 names my DH actually kind of likes that I've suggested...the other being Anderson. I love Vivian Marie! So feminine and classic!

Do any of you watch Modern Family? There is a character they talk about named Jasper. Apparently he's super popular and hard to get a play date with...heeheehee. It's a cute name but not for my baby. Was that you cara that used that phrase? I am going to start using that..."not for my baby".

ETA: congrats Lover in Athens! What a pretty baby!!!

almost 15wks

LV, like others have already said, Samantha Wren is a nice name! Unique but not too out there. And since it’s a bird, you can get cute things with wrens on them maybe…sort of how flower names have their own flowers, like Rose or Jasmine.

Icekid, thanks for the info and support. This morning my stomach/intestines were empty so I was really able to feel my uterus, which was really cool. It’s about the size of a grapefruit and is definitely displacing my organs and making them stick out higher up.

Hou – I think your message to Kunzite was to me (the one one wondering about my fundus and weight gain). I think you’re my closest-ahead-of-me preggo friend so it's always helpful to read what's in store for me soon. I’ve definitely grown a LOT noticeably in the last week, it’s crazy. My work pants and skirts are becoming really uncomfortable. That’s a good thing though, reassuring to know that little guy’s getting bigger. The top of my uterus is a few inches below my belly button, but usually I can’t feel it when my stomach is full, except lower down. It’s just funny that my belly isn’t really a baby belly, it’s a food belly. With the expected growth in the next couple weeks, I have a feeling the ladies at work are going to start talking :) I love the nickname Ellie, it’s cute and sweet. That’s great that you and your DH agreed so easily.

Lynnie, Salem is so cute! I have a cat that looks just like him :) Even my DH who walked by and saw the pic said wow, that looks just like our kitty! Salem looks really shiny and soft like our kitty too. At first when I read that he was modeling the onesie, I thought you meant that you put it on him – that would be funny :) Nice belly!

Welcome cupcake!

Cara, thanks for the thoughts on the weight gain. I know there’s nothing I can really do except get more exercise but even that’s hard…walking is all I’ve really done since 6 wks, too. BTW, I really like Xavier.

Noel, cool pic! I can’t wait to hear what name you choose when your baby girl is born.

LIA, congrats. I love the name Abigail/Abby! And Coby has great hair!

Lanie, Baltazar, haha. Maybe you can tell your DH to make his own list if he’s vetoing all of yours.

Pupp, Nolan's newborn pics are adorable. I’m impressed you’re able to post on PS already!

I’m celebrating the end of my first tri with a delicious cup of milk tea. I really missed tea! Also making DH go to the mall with me so I can check out Gap maternity and hopefully find some pants so I can use the 30% off Give and Get coupon.

our 3D/4D ultrasound went really well today. she is measuring average and weighing 672 grams (don't know how they know this), and will double in weight in 4 weeks time! her foot is longer than her femur which means she has big feet, like her Daddy. I am really happy that the pics turned out well because right now is when she is starting to grow body fat so I was afraid she was going to look skinny and wrinkly, but she's already got quite some baby fat in her cheeks. the only thing is that she is breech. she is folded over with her legs against her body and her feet by her head, but her bottom is down and that is apparently why I feel most of her movements quite low in my abdomen (bouncing up and down?). I am kind of hoping she stays that way as I'd rather have a c-section than vaginal birth, but then again I don't hear great recovery stories about that. anyway, I am sure babies turn all the time. I think she really looks like me, though I don't really know what DH looked like as a baby.

cdt - I will always love the name Lex. I learned it from Lex Luthor. obviously I am quite inspired by tv names. I can't believe how tiny your belly still is, especially if this is your 2nd! Vivian is a very classy name.

cupcake - I had m/s for 8 weeks! I did have to make sure I snacked on little things all day because being hungry made it worse. I would usually throw up in the morning during teeth brushing, though once I was ill before I went to bed. I am SO glad it is over and I can enjoy my pregnancy now. hang in there!

Lynnie - awesome onesie/Salem photo shoot. haha. I saw little Superman onesies in H&M today, but didn't think it would be appropriate for a girl (though if it was pink and white, I would have bought it). yay for the belly surpassing the boobs!

Everyone,

Thanks for the congrats; we're pretty smitten. We're still learning the ropes, but he's teaching us fast! My labor was really hard (I felt all my contractions in my back -- ouch), but thankfully crazy fast!

Love the name Samantha Wren. Beautiful.

Puppmom --he's gorgeous. Great newborn shots.

TurtleDazzle - Congratulations!! Tyler is precious! Yay for an easy birth story too. You may not have time to answer, but if you do, I'm curious about your Doula. Did you spend a lot of time with her before the birth? Or did you just meet her once or twice beforehand? Sounds like you really appreciated having her there for her experience. I'm curious how many births she's been a part of. I am considering a doula, but I would be her second client (which means I would not pay for her services since she needs two births for certification. This is part of the appeal, but she doula'd for a friend of mine, who said she was invaluable. They have been friends for years, so know each other well.)

Loves Vintage --

We interviewed the doula over an hour+ meeting at a Starbucks. I had asked around for recs and she was highly recommended, especially by my midwife group. She is a registered nurse, which is fairly uncommon among doulas (at least she's the only RN doula around here that I am aware of). She is no longer a practicing RN, but keeps up her certification and does some volunteer work. Her RN background is in L&D and obstetrics. After we decided to hire her, she came over to our house and we had a 2-3 hour "get to know each other" session. She's been a doula for 15 years, so is quite experienced and has attended over 300 births. Though he didn't tell me at the time, my husband said he was instantly relieved when she arrived at our house as my labor progressed way faster than we had been prepared for ... it definitely was not the "typical" first-time mom labor.

So, I didn't really know her in advance of this -- just those two meetings and a couple of phone calls and emails. She just had a grandmotherly rapport with us that was very calming, so I knew she'd make my labor better in many ways. Also, her vast experience made us more confident in her (though she does charge a premium for that experience -- she was considerably more expensive than some other doulas in my area). All that being said, however, friends of mine did use a less experienced doula like you are considering and had a nothing but good things to say about her. I think if you like the person and have confidence in their knowledge about labor, then it could be a good thing for both of you. Just be sure to ask her questions that are important to you (e.g. give me examples of how you would encourage me through painful contractions where I start to say I cannot do this without meds, assuming you want a nonmedicated birth -- this was one of my questions).

Turtledazzle, Thank you for all of the doula feedback. I didn't really have much of an idea what I would ask her, but now I've got some ideas. Sounds like you had a wonderful doula with lots of experience.

Noel, That u/s pic is AMAZING. Glad to hear everything continues to go well.

LIA, Congratulations! Beautiful photos! Thank you for sharing!

HOT, That's awesome! I have to tell you, I did tear up a little! Those are some beautiful and colorful wrens you have (in Australia, right?) Anyway, thank you for sharing your sweet story. :wavey:

:appl: :appl: :appl: I LOVE Samantha Wren the middle name keeps it fresh and modern, but Samantha is more classic and then you have the totally cute "Sam" nickname. great choice LV, and I love that it is a little old fashioined and a little whimsical b/c that seems a lot like you ;))

Bella, I *heart* you! :wavey: And, I think you're absolutely right!

This thread has really taken off - I am so bad with posting! I am so glad to see new faces, new babies and it seems everyone is doing well with their pregnancies :appl:

I am doing well myself. I am in my 17th week and started feeling movement in my 15th week (2nd baby). It is so exciting! DH hasn't been able to feel anything yet. I am still on the Lovenox 1x per day and that is okay. My sides are bruised from the injections and I'm sore a lot too from it so chasing my 2 year old around is hard sometimes.

At my last appointment my doctor and I discussed my L&D options since you cannot have an epidural if you go into natural labor while on Lovenox/heparin, depending on when your last injection was. So, it looks like I'm going to be induced. A wrench in that plan, however, is that my son was preterm at 36+4 so we're really hoping that I make it to 38 weeks this time. A good thing, however, is that Lovenox/heparin tends to prevent preterm labor in most women so there is a good chance that I'll be able stay pregnant with this one a bit longer than I was with my son.

Meanwhile, DH and I still haven't decided if we are going to find out the gender of the baby. My anatomy scan will be scheduled at my next appointment on 9/23 so we still about have 6 weeks to decide. We might just have them write it on a slip of paper and seal it in an envelope so we can wait if we want or not open it at all. Also, If we do find out the gender we will probably not tell anyone which will be hard, especially if it's a girl. I will want to go buy something pink and frilly!

Re: Morning Sickness. Mine started in my 5th week and I'm still taking 4mg of zofran in the morning. I feel queasy a lot and have a lot of food aversions, which is not great for my diet! When it was really bad I would only eat foods that sounded at least a little appetizing and I'd eat right though the nausea - no matter how bad it was. Peanut butter toast, Quaker rice cakes, Nutrigrain bars, and Ritz crackers were my stand-by choices. I found that I felt worse when I got too hungry as well so I ate small amounts often and always carried food and water with me just in case. It's not nearly as bad now, and I feel like I'm just starting to get my appetite back - despite the food aversions.

This thread is jumping!

Cupcake - CONGRATS and welcome!!! :appl: I hope m/s isn't a big issue for you. I lucked out and didn't have any! It's so crazy how we're all different... Wishing you all the best and a happy and healthy 9 months!!

CDT! I don't think I congratulated you on TEAM PINK!!! (dumb PS 2.0!!). That's so exciting! A king's family for you! It's nice to see I'm not the only one who's carrying small. You look great!!!

Noel - I love your 4D! She's a beauty already!

LIA - Congrats!! Miss Abigail Rose is adorable!!!   I love the name, too! And it's always nice to hear about an easy-ish delivery! I can only pray... Oh, and I LOVE the curls on your other two!!! So cute!

Lanie - You and me both can hatch up a plan to kill our DH's. Mine is the SAME. Any name gets shot down... Though I'm not really surprised. This is the same man I hate going to restaurants with, because he will stare at the menu FOREVER before deciding on a meal. It's to the point that if we go out to eat, I make him choose from the online menu before we even leave the house!! I like Alexander, too... not for me (it's my nephew's name, and his nickname is Xander). I just bought a baby name book from Overstock, but I'm afraid more options will make it even worse

Catluver - haha, that'd be really funny if I could get Salem into that outfit... maybe I'll try one of these days  Aw, I love black cats... I have two. How did maternity shopping go?

DD - It's so easy to 'fall behind' in this thread... there are so many preggers!! That stinks about no epidural. We send a lot of folks home on Lovenox at my hospital (usually they've gotten heart valves), but it's a rare occasion to get a pregnant woman on our unit. I really had no idea you could even take it and have a natural birth... I'm guessing it's riskier, though? I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll make it full-term, too.

I finally decided on some crib bedding. They sell it at Target, but I found it $40 cheaper at Overstock.com. I'll post a pic. I guess I better register soon... when are you all registering? And where? If you don't mind sharing, that is... I just went to BRU to get a gift for SIL's shower, and I think they're pretty over-priced... not sure if I'll register there.

Congratulations, LIA! Those eyes!! You have another beautiful child!

Noel~ Aww, your baby girl is going to be as gorgeous as you are!!

Where's HH??

Almost 21w :)

China – We’re in the Pacific Northwest so looking at the top 100 from last year, Oliver was #53. That’s an okay spot for me. Not too high, not too low. I love what you said about being grown up enough. That’s one of the reasons that I love it. I can see it as being a professional enough name when LO is grown but also cute enough for a child. I think I might be sold. Now we just have to come up with some middle names!! If we did end up using Liam for either a first or middle name it would just be Liam. My dad’s middle name is William so I figure it would be a nice nod at least.

turtledazzle – Congrats!! Tyler is so cute.

pupp – Those pictures of Nolan are just precious! I really wanted to do a newborn shoot before, but now it’s a must!! So happy BFing is going well for you. I have to admit that I’m worried about that. I think it’s natural to worry about something when you want it so bad, like most of us do with BF. Good for you!!

catluver – I hear you about stressing about weight. I’m not up much so far, only 5 pounds, but since I’m overweight to begin with (not like you skinny mama!!!) I really want to make sure I don’t gain more than the recommended amount. Knowing that I still have half way to go and I’m suddenly gaining weight like a crazy person has got me really freaked out. I think what gets me the most is that it’s “permanent” in that every pound I go up is sticking. There’s no making up for it by losing a pound next week, you know?

hou – I adore Eleanor. It was in our top 5 girl names for sure. What a great choice!!

icekid – Sorry to hear you have such a rough schedule. I don’t know how you do it! I forgot to comment awhile back (okay, a long while back….) about the bedding that you picked out. You chose the space bedding from Dwell, right? Anyway, I LOVE that bedding. If we hadn’t been trying to stay more neutral I think it’s what we would have chosen as well.

LV – GREAT name choice. Like the other ladies, I adore Wren for a middle name. When we were talking about girl middle names we were seriously considering Laerke which is Danish for lark. I think it’s so beautiful and we have been trying to work in a more Scandinavian name, but it’s been really hard.

cdt – Congrats on picking Vivian, very pretty.

LIA – Congrats!! Both of your children are precious.

noel & lynnie – Cute clothes and pictures ladies. I attempted to take a picture of the stuff we’ve picked up so far. We’ve scored a ton of ADORABLE cloth diapers from CL. They’re all in great condition and the 12 blueberries are actually new and never used. We went on a bit of a onsie spree the last week. There are just too many cute ones out there. I’m a little worried now that I think about it though, because we bought mostly 0-3 months and cloth diapers are quite a bit bigger than disposables so now I’m worried none of these will fit! Oh well, I guess we’ll just wait and see.

ETA - lynnie - I forgot to answer your question about registries. We did our entire registry at Amazon. You can literally register for anything and if someone looks at your list and decides they want to buy you something from the registry elsewhere they can also just select the option of marking it off without actually buying it through Amazon.

Oh, and I have no idea how you ladies keep up with this thread! It took me like an hour to write this entire post out. Maybe I’m just a slow poke!

Oh, and I almost forgot. The crib sheet that we picked out. We're not doing the entire bedding set since we're not doing a bumper or skirt, just the sheet.

owl.jpg

And since this is still a jewelry site.... my new green tourmaline on the one sheet we've picked up so far :cheeky:

Here is my late BPF contribution 32 weeks only 8 more weeks to go...my hubby affectionately calls me pregasaurus :( because I am HUUUUGE!

IMG_1515.JPG

Lynnie, maternity shopping went well! I found 2 pair of black pants from Gap maternity and a cute ruffle shirt that I can wear to work. The quality isn't the greatest, but it's not terrible, and I love the stretchy waist - so comfortable. Now that I know how the sizing fits, I can order more online. I stopped into Motherhood but I wasn't impressed with the styles or the quality. I love black cats too…I didn’t used to be particularly drawn to them, but I fostered a litter of all black kittens (kept the runt) and now I love them!

Kunzite, I get what you mean about the “permanent” pounds thing. Although I have found that some days I’m extra bloated from eating too much sodium, so I go down a little bit the next day (but always back up eventually, of course!). That is quite a collection of clothes you have there – so cute! Do you like monkeys? :) Your new ring is TDF – I LOVE IT!!!!

Here is my 15wk BP – definitely bigger, but the bump is still not a baby, it's organs! Deceptive though because I take these first thing in the morning...by the time I eat/drink something, the belly is at least 50% bigger. Wondering when I'll have a real baby belly.

5wks-12wks-15wksCL.jpg

LIA-Shes beautiful!!!!!

CDT-Dont remember if I commented but I love the name Vivian. Love It!!!

The belly pics are awesome! Allie you look great girl!

Wow, this thread really is jumping. All week I was planning to catch up but there was so much I decided to wait till the weekend. But DH had decided that he didn’t like our internet plan and unsuccessfully tried to change us to a new provider and now we have no internet at home  . It’s amazing how reliant on it you become!

Bliss and Cara – Thanks for your help on maternity clothes suggestions. I finally bit the bullet and bought some clothes. I bought one pair of black maternity pants and a top online which both fit well and were good quality fabrics and otherwise I just bought one size up in normal clothes. We are going into spring here and there are a lot of empire line tops and dresses in fashion this season so that makes it a little easier to not have to buy specific maternity clothes. The hardest part is work clothes – I mainly wear suits to work and the only maternity suits I have seen are hideous. I have ordered a belly belt and band to stretch my current suits further. A friend is also going to lend me her maternity clothes so hopefully there are a few things there I can make do with. I suspect in time I will get over the vanity in any event since nothing will look good and it is only a few months after all!

Splitshank and Laila – I’m with both of you. Still in my old 34Bs although I must say only just. I think the next cup size is not far away.

CDT – congrats on team pink. And Vivian is elegant and not too common.

Noel – that cardigan you knitted is gorgeous. Where do you find the time to do that on top of travelling for work and everything else? And the onesies are too cute. I can’t wait to find out gender so we can buy a few things!

Lanie and all others struggling with boy names. I am with you. We don’t even know the gender but we have at least 3 girls names we would happily use but not one boys name. And we are both thinking it will be a boy at the moment so maybe we will just wait for the gender scan and see what it is before we have too many more discussions about it.

Lanie – I really like both Hudson and Anderson but DH has vetoed any name that is also a surname! And I like Alexander but that has been used for a nephew already. So hard. DH and I have both thrown around some ridiculous names for fun (Berthleus is my fave so far) but the scary thing is we will probably end up with one because we can’t agree on anything else!

Kunzite – congrats on team blue. I really like Oliver. I’m surprised it is not more common in the US as in Australia it is a top 10 name. And all I can say to that ring is wow! I need to start sending DH some hints for a “push” present.

HH – I can’t believe you are next in line. Hopefully you don’t have to wait until October.

Cara – You are so close too! I also like Xavier. I understand your nervousness about repetition but I think it really depends on the names, the number of syllables and how “strong” the repeated part is. I think the “er” is quite soft and could easily be repeated but only you and DH will know whether you are comfortable with it. I’m also with you on wanting a longer name that can be shortened to something decent. In Australia, if you don’t have a proper short version they will most likely end up with an “o” or “y” added eg Xavo or Xavy. The “y” I can cope with but not the “O”!

LV – Samantha Wren is great.

Icekid – that name blog Is great. Good luck with the rotation. I can’t imagine waking up at 3.30am!

Kunzite – I really like Oliver. I’m surprised it is not more common in the US as in Australia it is a top 10 name. And all I can say to that ring is wow! I need to start sending DH some hints for a “push” present.

Turtledazzle and Puppmom – so, so precious. Thanks for sharing.

Catluver – I am totally with you on the food belly! My belly is fairly firm on the lower half and then just a roll of pooch on the upper half up to my belly button and I am 17 weeks. I still just look like I’m putting on weight and my belly goes up and down all the time, especially over the course of the day. You are still looking tiny. Hope you hear the heartbeat at your appointment tomorrow – it really is amazing. We haven’t seen our LO for a month and have another scan tomorrow which I am really excited about.

Houie – Love the name Eleanor!! So elegant for an adult and Ellie is perfect for a little girl.

Lynnie – Gabriel isn’t that common in Australia but our neighbours called their little boy Gabriel (Gabe for short) and he is just adorable. And abs of steel is definitely a compliment! You look great.

Cupcakemuffin- welcome!

DivaDiamond – I’m sorry you have to go through the injections but glad to hear all is going well. We are planning to find out the gender but not tell people but I am sure we will mess up somewhere along the way. Good luck with the decision.

Allie – You look great! I have already told my DH he has to quit with the fat jokes and I am only 17 weeks :((

**

As for me, I finally told work last week (a couple of people ever so kindly told me they knew because I looked like I had put on weight) and thankfully it went down a little better than expected. I should get 12 weeks paid maternity leave (there is no legal entitlement to paid maternity leave here, just what your employer agrees under your contract) and will probably take about 6 months off in total. It is still likely to be difficult when I come back but at least I know I will get some paid leave and have a job to come back to. I also feel so relieved about not trying to hide it any more, not least of which because I can now wear more comfortable clothes and not worry about it! We have our next appointment tomorrow and hopefully can book in for our anatomy scan in the next couple of weeks and find out what team we will be joining! As a few people said, I think it will start to feel real then.

Lanie... I hear ya on the name veto'ing husband. G was the same way--we went through HUNDREDS of names. I had a fave name so I just kept tossing it in there, and eventually he started liking it (and was vehemently against it originally!)... but we kept exploring other names. In the hospital after the baby was born we thought ... is he? isn't he? Now we both can't imagine him as anything else. So I say keep going for something if you really love a name or two.. it might grow on hub!!

One other comment re names..so funny but one of my friends told me that she and her hub had the same situ going on and she said...'Don't worry, after he sees everything you have to go through in L&D...he'll name the baby whatever you want!!' I have a feeling that's how more than one woman has gotten the name she loves. :naughty:

Cupcake.. just had to chime in and say....cute Westie! Our 6 year old girl is a Westie and she's a complete darling.

I'm so glad I stopped in today!

turtle~ Huge congratulations to your family. Your son is soo precious and cute! Yay for a fast labor too! Lily had that same blanket too, we actually ended up with it but I'm not sure how!

pupp~ Aww, adorable pics of Nolan!! I love nakey babies!

Noel~ You're a hot mama!

HH~ I think about you every day wondering if you're going into labor, lol!

Glad to see everyone is doing well!!

oh, I don't remember who posted the name Eleanor (Ellie) but I love it! Ellie was on our list too.

Good morning ladies, I'm still here-still pregnant. Tomorrow marks 37 weeks and "full term" according to my doctor. It's sort of a cruel joke though because I'm not really full term and will likely go the 3 weeks if not more. I'm still feeling great and I'm not really nervous about labor, I just want Aidan to be here at this point. So I missed belly pic Friday so here's my submission. The dress I'm wearing isn't really the best for showing the bump in all her glory. I'm definitely bigger and I think I've dropped a bit. I'm trying to do as much on my feet as possible these days. The weather here is back up into the 90s so walking outside isn't really an option right now. Saturday I cleaned the hour and shampooed the carpets. Yesterday I spent the morning cleaning out my refrigerator and freezer, as in taking everything including shelves out, washing it all down, vacuuming the coils and putting it all back together. The other project I want to get done before LO gets here is organizing the linen closet and bathroom. God I'm so weird!

Anyway, I hope you're all doing and feeling well. LIA-congratulations on your LO's arrival!

Lanie and Mara--yup that's our 9 year old Westie Kody. He's the love of my DH's life, I don't know how they survived all these years without each other. He hardly even looks at me unless DH is gone...and actually I got that picture while DH was in Vegas a few weeks ago and Kody was giving me his sad face. I don't know how my dog has now become his dog but that's that :nono:

I hope everyone had a good weekend and everyone is feeling great. I am sick as a dog from m/s--which for me is really all day sickness. Ginger ale and saltines are not working... :errrr: I really feel like I should go home and puke. My bbs are now hurting so bad that anything brushing up against them makes me want to cry. Ah...the glamorous life of a pregnant lady: painful bbs, pukey, gassy, and bloated.

Geri - Yay for the food belly :) Actually, DH made a “joke” about my body last week that was very NOT well received. Boy, did he get it! Thankfully it looks like he got the message and is being nothing but supportive now. How was your scan? I did hear the hb for the first time today, it was great! Where did you find your maternity pants and top that you like? I agree that maternity suits are generally hideous. Hopefully you can find a good jacket at least. I’m wearing mat pants for the first time today at work and while they are not too fashionable, they are so very comfortable.

Names
So, anyone still want to play the name game? BTW, if anyone’s still looking for names and hasn’t been to nameberry.com, it is a great site for hours of entertainment and research!

We have a boy name picked out but are having a hard time w/girl names - the reverse of the usual, it seems. We want something not too popular, but not too out there or anything that sounds like an invented name. Also, it has to have more than 1 syllable because our last name is only 1 syllable, and preferably have a good nickname. I hope no one takes offense to any of my comments because they are all just personal preference!

Names we like
Alexandra (Ali or Alex) (probably the frontrunner right now, but Alexis/Alexa is pretty popular)
Abigail (Abby) (we both love this, but it’s top 10)
Charlotte (no good nicknames)

Rejects for one reason or another
Claire (we both love, but only 1 syllable)
Emily (top 5-10)
Kate/Katie (like it, but don’t want any of the full names for Kate/Katie for various reasons)
Elizabeth (like it as a backup but would prefer something different)
Penelope (Penny) (like it but may be iffy w/our last name)
Ellie (really popular, but DH doesn’t like anyway)
Olivia (too popular, but DH doesn’t like anyway)
Roxanne (Roxie) (DH doesn’t like)
Florence (a family name, but don’t like any of the nicknames and F names don’t go with our last name)

And names that are a little more out there:
Millicent (love Millie, but Millicent may be too weird)
Coraline (like the movie) (like it but no good nicknames - not a fan of Cora. Also may get mixed up easily with Caroline)
Violet (no good nicknames)
Eloise (Ellie) (pronounced Ell-louise) (may be too weird and not a fan of the name Louise)
Lorelei (DH loves this, but no good nicknames and may be too hippy for us)
Evangeline (Evie) (DH loves this too, but I’m not sure about it. Also, Eva/Evie is so popular)
Cordelia or Adelia (Delia/Lia)

Thoughts are welcome!

Holy pelvis pain batman! At first I chalked it up to RLP, but man, I feel like someone's taking a nutcracker to my pelvic bones! Definitely some widening/loosening going on in the joint!

Sorry for the pity party post. :)

Keep on bakin' babies, ladies!

Had our first u/s today!

Heartbeat was 176 and everything was spot on for our due date, April 1st.

So happy that everything went well...we were worried.

Catluver – Congrats on hearing the heartbeat! You must be so pleased. Re maternity clothes, I am in Australia and the maternity clothes in the shops here are pretty dire and expensive so I have mainly been looking on-line at places that ship from the UK or US that friends have recommended. I bought black straight leg pants from a UK site www.seraphine.com. I think they do good basics, not cheap but not too over the top either. The pants are cotton but with a slightly shiny/satin finish so are smart enough for work and should be light enough to wear in the warmer summer months. I was going to buy the bootleg trousers which come in a suiting fabric but they are sold out in my size at the moment so I just bought some normal black suit pants in a size up. They won’t last the whole pregnancy but I should get a couple of months wear out of them and will have them taken in after I lose the baby weight (hopefully!). I have also heard good things about www.isabellaoliver.com but her things are a little more expensive. I am also on the opposite season so a lot of the clothes won’t work for me (although it did mean I got a couple of nice summer things on sale). For jackets, I can still wear my current jackets but just can’t do them up so the bump is on display! I’ve bought a belted jacket (a bit like a short trench coat) one size up from normal which I can do up to cover the bump for the time being and can wear open later on. Hopefully this will get me through to the warmer summer months when people dress a bit more casually anyway. Hope you find some things that work for you.

Re names, your “rules” are very similar to us as DH also has a single syllable surname! Of your list (skipping the rejects), I really like Alexandra, Abigail, Eloise (this is on our list too), Evangeline (love Evie but it doesn’t go with our surname) and Adelia. I have friends whose daughter Amelia is nicknamed Millie.

Taovandel – Congratulations on hearing the heartbeat!

RE: Millie Emilia ( a variation of Amelia) could be Millie, Emmie, or Emma-- same for Emeline (which reminds me of Evangeline).

Tao~ yay for your US!!

HH- You are gorgeous! Congratulations. So many of my LIW/BIW buds are having babies :-) Love it!
