Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

I hated that hair falling out thing. My hairstylist just laughed at me, and we had to adjust my cut a little to camoflauge the baby fuzzies!!!

It just never ends. I had to have some medical procedures a bit ago, and they said I should not lift anything over 15 pounds, and I just laughed at them!!! Come on! And yesterday, the massage therapist noted the tension in my back and commented that I must do a job with a lot of heavy lifting, and I said, yah, it''s called being a mom to a toddler!!!

Damn kids - they mess up our bodies in a big way!!!

P.S. It was so cute - I got a pedi yesterday and my toes are a real deep red. My mini man saw them (mommy does not get out for pedis often), pointed at them, laughed, and then tried to bite my toes!!!
23.gif
i thougt this said "mail man"....LOL

Diver, sorry about your day! Hope the cookies made you feel better. I was also shocked with Kate''s loss. Very rare. Hopefully they can figure out what happened to prevent it for the next time.
15.gif
Give D and Jake an extra little hug.

Jas/Jackie, I think the other show dropped. I felt great....at first....too. Then the hang over began. Lots of crackers and pepsi is what got me through it. Just remember it is only temporary and in the end you get your beautiful baby. When are you going to make the announcement?

Jas12, you seem to have amazing willpower. No oreos for 20 years! No wonder you are so thin. I cry so much easier now too. It is kind of annoying.
2.gif

LC, cute about your little boy being fascinated with your red toe nails. Not look forward to the "baby fuzz" when does that start? When does it end?

Mail man..... you are funny Diver.

The hair loss thing likely started at about 6 months post partum. The fuzzies started at about 8 months, and continued likely until about 11 months. Really a sexy look!

Oh great....as if I don''t feel sexy already. How much hair loss are we talking about?

Tessa has just discovered her hands. She is holding them together (moving her fingers around) and just STARING at them. Going a little cross eyed. It is too funny.

Side note: I realized that this is one of the only threads that people actually READ my responses. The inner middle child in me feels so ignored
41.gif

Tacori--ahhh, no. Willpower has nothing to do with not eating oreos--I eat PLENTY of goodies--I just mostly make them. I bake like crazy b/c cooking is my #1 hobby. I was also raised in a household that didn''t ever have those things in the cupboard so I guess as and adult i just never went shopping in those aisles. I do however buy jujubes!!!--my nemesis

11.gif
I heart jubes--squishy, sugary, multi-colored goodness
18.gif

Jas--hopefully you are just feeling literally under the weather and it''s not a sign of m/s to come--ick.
Your DH is witty off the cuff. Amazing how ppl pick up on those things isn''t it?!
Where do i get a hold of this In the Womb film? I think I remember reading about it on this site or somewhere before. I am interested.
BTW our hubbies have the same name--what are the changes of that, and you and I sharing the screen name ''jas'' --funny!

Jas I saw it on Discovery health. It WAS amazing. Sounds like Jackie rented it.

I never had the big hair loss issue, but i've got thick hair to begin with so who knows...maybe you'll luck out in that dept. tacori, you've paid your dues in all the other ones...lol's

jackiejas- sounds like a touch of morning sickness to me. like tacori, crackers and coke's got me through. also, make sure you don't let your tummy get empty. try to eat small snacks between meals etc. b/c many times you will feel more nauseous once the tummy is empty but b/f you actual feel hungry.

diver- so sad yesterday was so horrible. i hope today is better for you. let us know what happens at the dr.

jas- i think you can keep working out as long as you feel like it. I've said b/f but i taught spinning classes up until 2 weeks before I delievered my oldest, and the only reason I stopped was b/c my belly was so big it hit the handle bars. i also had my sub lined up and was just ready for her to go ahead and take over. i did my 3.5 mile hike on sat and although was winded, still felt great. I really do believe it makes a difference during L&D if you're really fit and I know it helps you recover faster on the other side. your body will remember where it was prepreggo and just try to get back there quicker. yay for you for keeping it up. oh and i'm like you..I love fresh baked goods and will bake cookies all the time. I try to just do half batches b/c between me and my family we'd eat a whole batch in 2 days, no problem...

I posted this on TTC thread, but thought i''d post here in case some of you ladies had any expertise in these areas. sorry for being a thread hog!

*multivitamins: I know it''s recommended that women take prenatals once pregnant. However if someone takes multis until they find out they''re pg (4-6 wks let''s say), is that ok? I know this is connected to Vitamin A,etc.

*skin care: specifically topical acne treatments like Retin A and Differin. It''s recommended that pg women stop usiing these. But again, is it ok to use them until you find out you''re pg and then stop?

I suppose I''m wondering if it''s ok to stop all potentially harmful things (proven and not proven yet) early in pregnancy or is it even too late by then. At 4 wks pregnant for example, the fetus is only 2wks in actuality and it''s not unusual that an expectant mother would not even know she is pregnant yet.

Thanks--and if others have some expertise in this area, please chime in!

I am posting like crazy today--so bored--should be marking exams--blahhh

Tacori--I just ordered the In the Womb from amazon since we have just a small selection of videos at our one blockbuster store. I thought jackiejas watched in on the net--but sounds like she rented it from the net? (don''t have that around here either) I think i''ll show some of it to my class--we are watching the planet earth series right now and they really like it.

MsS. you are right about the exercise--i am sure recovery/labor must somehow be easier. I am going to keep being active till the end--but maybe tone it down a bit. i am stressing about my hip & the birth--i injured one years ago when i ski raced and it bothers me still. I was snowshoeing this weekend and cardiovascularly i felt great, but my hips were so locked when i was done i was walking like an 80 year old. I am wondering if stuff like that (old injuries etc.) impacts how well labor goes...does anyone know?
I can''t believe you did spinning that long--i quit those classes at around 5 months b/c of the belly thing too--just felt funny--and the studio is visible to everyone in the gym and stupid ppl kept saying things like "are you sure you should be doing that''-those classes are intense" etc. etc. and i started to get self concious
15.gif
I find step just as good, but it''s in a closed studio so no idiots gawking at the preggos.

Janine--prenatals have vitamins more tailored to suit pregnancy''s needs--like extra folic acid and iron, but you are still getting a lot of the same vitamins with your multi i am sure. Vitamins that come directly from food sources are still the best for your body--but i look at my prenatal vitamin as ''insurance'' for the m/s days when you can''t stomach fruit and veggies.
Folic acid is the biggie --make sure you get that.
As for the acne medicine--i am not sure. Personally, i would stop as soon as i found out--it''s never too late. The less non-natural stuff in your body while all that major cellular development occurs, the better IMO

I''ve been horribly sick since friday. I had a fever. My temp had gone down, so that''s good. But my nose starting running and is stuffy now. I took tylenol a few times, started taking vitamin C and just try to drink lots of water. Is there anything else I can do to get over it?

Ms Flutter - you and Ian look so cute in your matching tee.
Tacori - the thing is I don''t think a lot of the high ticketed will be bought off the registries. the older/traditional guests will most likely give red envelope/money anyways. plus I just like to plan and get stuffs early, much like for our wedding.
lili - we are going to put money aside for baby stuffs, but I still like to spread out the purcahse.

Diver, big hugs to you. I had a pretty crappy day myself yesterday so you have my sympathies. Some days, you just gotta let it out (crying, sighing, whatever) and take a deep breath and hope the next day is better.

Yup, TGuy has gained weight. Tons of it. It''s nothing I''ve been doing though...as it''s all the beer he''s been drinking (football season). This is the heaviest he''s been and I''m kind of tired of hearing that he needs to do something about it...because he doesn''t!
20.gif

My boss jokes that we women bear the burden for 9 months. Men have to bear the burden a lifetime. Ha. Not quite. When TGuy becomes the breadwinner and I can stay home, I''ll subscribe to that philosophy...a little.

I know my hair''s gonna fall out by the gobs. I''ve been shocked how little has fallen out during pregnancy and I know all those follicles are itching for their release. I''m screwed.
40.gif

Jackie, your story gave me a good laugh this morning...

Tacori, I joke with the girls that after this baby, I am holding my eggs hostage. If TGuy wants another baby, he''d better step up to the plate! Hehehe. Actually, I think he is going to be great. As long as I am using the word "great" veeeeeeeeery loosely.
41.gif

janinegirly- a lot of dr''s will recommend taking the prenatal months b/f you even start trying along with getting rid of all the stuff you mentioned. that said, there are plenty of gals who get pregnant when they aren''t trying and continue to do all those things. heck, i had a few glasses of wine in the early weeks of my pregnancy b/f i found out. I think that as long as you stop and get on a prenatal as soon as you know, things should be fine. that''s just my opinion though, i''m no dr.

if you are trying to get pregnant i would go ahead and get on the prenatal and stop using the other stuff...if you think you already are pregnant, i think you''d still be ok to stop now. i wouldn''t purposefully keep using the stuff if I were trying with the intention of giving them up once I found out I was pregnant.

MrsS, I could use a break huh?
1.gif

Jas12, you will really enjoy it.

Q, feel better! I love the site safefetus.com tells you all the medications you can take. Call your doc and (s)he''ll tell you too.

Tgal, I LIKE the way you think! Hmmmm.....I really do think he''ll be nicer the second time around. He loves Tessa so much so I think he''ll see my growing belly and another Tessa instead of some strange, abstract thing. Not that I am going to get preggo ANYTIME soon! No, no....I want them at least 3 years apart. My body needs a break.

I have not seen that birth video: I think I would be freaked out. My husband, to this day, will not talk about the birth, he was so traumatized. But that just makes me want to see it to figure out what he was so freaked out about. So indecisive.

Heh, JAS12, I believe we are also both teachers. Weird, eh? We rented the In The Womb flick. It''s a very cool movie with 95% of it Ultrasound pictures and computer generated "animation" based on ultrasounds, all going over the development of the babe. Very cool. Minus the drippings part, as I mentioned.
Tacori -- I''m just a little...off...floopy, ya know...so far my tummy is just fine. I''m enervated, though. We''re going to announce around the 11th or 12th week, which would be the end of February, beginning of March. I''m going to have to come up with a great way to announce Lojack''s impending arrival.
Hair fuzzies? Really LitChick? My hair is unmanageable enough now. So much excellent stuff to look forward to.
QT -- feel better! No advice. Sorry
7.gif

Big question of the day: PEANUTS? PEANUT BUTTER? YEA OR NAY FOR YOU GUYS? I''m reading too much about it, and even though there are no peanut allergies in my family, apparently there are still some doctors recommending avoiding peanuts. Which ordinarily would just suck, but considering the giant Costco bag of Peanut M&Ms in the kitchen, it really sucks. But on the other side, having seen the rise in peanut allergies in the last few years and the havoc it causes, I really want to avoid triggering this in lil Lojack.

TGal--
How lucky that you get to work from home, so jealous.
I doubt I will get any work done if I work from home. Probably surf the PS all day long
9.gif

I hear you on the baby trying to come out -- Some days I feel like their little arm will just punch through my belly.

MrsS--
Wow, you are just kicking. 3.5 miles hike!
Outdoors or on the treadmill?
Mind if I ask how long it takes you to walk that distance?
Question, does your uterus tighten up when you walk?
Mine seems to tighten up (though it doesn't hurt) whenever I walk.
I don't know if it is the baby just pressing against my belly or what.
I haven't worked out since '91 and am afraid that I may be overexerting myself.

Tacori--
That's great about the walks and Tessa sleeping longer!
So glad that your clogged milk is cured.
So do you continue to nurse with that technique or only when the issue surface?
Like Jas12 said, just think of that technique as a strengthening exercise.
Killing 2 birds with one stone. Actually, it's more like 3 since Tessa is feeding faster :)
By the way, has her spitting subsided?

Jas--
That's pretty witty of your hubby :)
My hubby will just tell the truth....although we don't have to worry about being caught not drinking since both of us don't drink.
Anyway, to answer your peanut and peanut butter question, I think I eat more peanuts when preggo -- it's a good source of protein.
My sister practically lives on peanut when she was preggo with both her daughters....and they didn't have peanut allergy.
My sister-in-law didn't eat as much and her daughter has a peanut and sesame allergy, so I don't know.

-----
Regarding hair loss.
Definitely something I don't look forward to.
My hair is already thin and frizzy right now and we are supposed to have more luxurious hair? or at least not have it fall off as much.

Q, sorry you are not feeling well.
Just be thankful that it is not the flu you had.
Hope you recover soon.

Jas/Jackie, I have heard the peanut thing is only a problem if you have a family history. I asked my ped about it recently (since I am nursing) and he said not to worry. We told people SOOO early. I don''t know how you can stand it! Hopefully you will miss the m/s train. It isn''t a fun ride. Haha!

Lili, not only is she still a spitter, she is now a HUGE drooler
38.gif
She has a bib on at ALL times. I only did the all 4 nursing technique until the duct "cleared." I thought about doing it once a day to see if it prevents new ones...

LC, my DH did not mind at all (the birth). He was a premed major back in the day though. He has a very scientific mind. I think many men find it disturbing b/c of sexual reasons. They are used to you looking clean and pretty and let''s face it there is NOTHING pretty about childbirth. I have seen a video of childbirth (in our classes). I personally am slightly grossed out and would never want to see myself (many women use a mirror
23.gif
)give birth.

Tacori--
Does the clog just appear or can you sense it as it develope?
You know what I mean? If you can feel it happen before it gets full-blown clogged, then you can probably just nurse with the other way.

Awee...poor little Tessa.
So the medication didn''t help with the spitting?

The medicine did not help and since she is a "happy spitter" (seriously sometimes she is smiling while she does it) her doc, dad and I decided not to medicate. For me the nasty clogs just appear (I wake up with them). I know engorgement can bring it on but it isn't always the cause (the last one came fast. It had only been 3-4 hours since I nursed). Next time I will nurse on all 4s ASAP. Sometimes I feel little lumps but I make sure to massage those out. Those are not painful.

jackiejas--yep, i am a teacher--too weird. Your hubby isn''t a tradesman is he? hehe
What grade do you teach? I am certified from k-12, yet teach an adult alternative program which i am not qualified for (go figure) my students range from 16-30 years old--they''ve all dropped out for some reason (jail time, teen pregnancy etc,) so regular classes just don''t fit their lifestyle. i am with the same group all day and find it kinda borning--very little ''front of class'' teaching time b/c they are all on individual programs--the majority of my day is spent making programs, marking and walking around the class/assisting--the nice part is i can be on the internet a lot b/c my comp. is at my desk
31.gif

Wondering...for the moms: did those of you who didn''t know the gender of your baby before birth have strong intuition either way, and if yes, was it correct.??
I didn''t have a feeling either way for about the first 4-5months--and didn''t care either way. Then i had a dream--my one and only baby dream so far--in it i go into labor and have to pee--but instead of pee this little floating word caption appears in the toilet bowl saying ''it''s a girl'' (wacky, i know). Ever since then i have had really strong girl feelings and don''t picture a boy anymore. However, i must admit that i always really wanted a girl prior to getting pregnant--so maybe old subconcious desires resurfacing, or a premonition???.....anywho, just wondering what other''s experiences were/are.
Tgal--are you having feelings either way
Lili--do you know the gender? I forget.

I am looking forward to seeing the In the Womb video--i think DH will like it. He couldn''t watch the c-section video at our p/n class, but he did find the vaginal birth interesting. He once witnessed a moose give birth while canoeing deep in the bush one spring--he talks about that ALL the time--the noises she made, the stuff that came out, and he said he thought the human birth was remarkably similar--wonderful, we look like moose during birth--sexy
3.gif

Jas12--
I think most moms'' intuition are pretty accurate.
Take Tacori for an instanct -- she''s been having dreams of little girl during her pregnancy.
My sister had dreams of her little girls before they were born too.
Anyway, I am not you didn''t have a feeling during the first 4-5 months
since the gender of the baby is not even obvious on a us at that point yet
3.gif

I can''t answer you since I did cave and found out that we are having a girl with our amnio test :)
Although I did dream about my little girl at 6 months.

Jas, I have been the same as you...not much either way the first 4-5 months...in fact earlier dreams were that it was a boy. But lately, all girl dreams. I think it''s my subconscious desire to have a daughter too. But honestly, it''s just a guess. I don''t have any strong intuitions...but I am leaning toward feeling like it''s a girl. I treat her as such...except that I call it a "he" all the time!!

"Drippings" are the last thing you will be thinking about!!! With your cervix dilated to 10 cm (take out a ruler - yikes!) and a human body coming out of you, one needs to expect a bit of "drippings".

The baby fuzzies are no joke. Another lady at work had them worse than me. Just get a little creative with the hair for those few months. It all goes back to normal (unlike other parts!).

Full-out blizzard here this morn--everything shut down but the darn school. I have a whole 2 students here this morning and i am wishing i just stayed in bed! Luckily i don''t have to ski coach tonight due to wind gusts-- so i am hibernating when i get home (maybe with a bag of oreos?!!)

Hmm, interesting about the gender stuff. Lili, congrats on the girl to be!!!
If we are all right about our feelings there will be a girly-girl boom on PS--we shall see in less than 2 months!
My mom and sister are having dreams about my baby like crazy--my sis had 3 in a row this week alone--but the gender is never obvious...weird how they are dreaming, but i am not. DH said "well, you have to sleep for more than an hour at a time first" hehe--he''s onto something.

LitChick--now i am stressing over baby fuzzies! I have fly-away hair to begin with--yikes, i am in for it! Good thing i have mat leave for a year--i am going to laying low till i have some hair back. Does that much really fall out!?
15.gif

ya, ''Drippings'' are barely noticed during the height of labor i am sure! That word cracks me up--makes it sounds really nasty
...lets call it Labor Lube
2.gif

Q--you feeling any better? Get as much good stuff in you as possible--tons of water and fresh fruit!

ili, the only thing I sometime''s notice after my hikes are pain in my inner thighs/legs, i think due to my extra weight in the belly. We hike outside at a gorgeous park. He''s a picture of the stairs leading into the woods where the trail is. I posted on the WWT a while back. It''s a magical place. it used to take us about 50 min. but now it''s about an hour
41.gif
my preggo sister goes with me and we''re both slowing down..lol..

jackiejas, I eat peanutbutter all the time. especially since delimeat is a no-no (which I''m guilty of eating every now and then too) I substitute a peanut butter sandwich. I honestly don''t know if it will or won''t contribute to a peanut allergy but none of my kids have one and I ate peanut butter during both of those pregnancies too. We''ve got no family history of peanut allergies either though. My *guess* is they are covered by our immune systems while in your belly, much like chicken pox. Both my girls had the chickpox (weird vaccine lack of booster thing) and b/c I''d had the chicken pox as a kid, my dr. said the baby is covered by my immune system and would be fine. it''s very dangerous for a mom who has not had the chicken pox to get them while preggo. anyway, I''d enjoy those peanut m&m''s
18.gif
. Double check with your OB to be sure though but from what i''ve read, any connection is just a theory at this point and it''s not on any foods to avoid while pregnant list like certain types of fish, cheeses, etc.

stairclimbhike1.jpg

Mrs. Salvo, what a beautiful place to walk!!! I was also relatively active during my pregnancy. The day before I gave birth (and maybe why I gave birth the next day), I did a fire drill, walking down 12 floors in my building, and then walking back up the same 12 floors (the elevators were packed! I had work to do!).

I ate peanuts, deli meat, a cup of coffee a day, etc. Moderation, I think. Juice always made my little man have a party in my belly.

Oh I ate LOTS of peanut butter when preggo! I ate a ton of PB&Js with potato chips first trimester ... yum!

Yeah, I remember being horrified at the c-section video during our childbirth class, but the good thing about having a c-sec is that you don''t really see any of that taking place, so your own is 100x better than seeing someone else''s! Seems weird that your surgery would be less disturbing than a total stranger''s, but it is.
So I tried Cakesters yesterday ... I couldn''t eat them very often, but they are pretty yummy. Kind of like a 21st-century Devil Dog, but with better cake and not nearly as horribly dry as a DD
21.gif

There are way too many posts for me to comment on them all, but I am reading this thread still everyday and keeping up with y''all''s progress! I can''t believe there are going to be so many new babies here in just WEEKS!!!

G&K look so cute right now. They''re both sleeping in boppys next to me on the couch, and K is giving little sleeping grins now and then -- love it! They''re both legitimately smiling now too, though K is still a little stingy with hers. But when she grants us one, it''s just the cutest thing ever
30.gif
She''s got this little mark on the end of her nose (not the tip, but the part that slopes down from the tip - does that have a name?!) that isn''t going away, and it''s starting to make me paranoid. I thought it was a scratch at first, but it''s been around for many days now, and you can''t feel any scab or anything, so I don''t think it''s a scratch. The skin around it is slightly purplish too.
33.gif
I don''t want to get all crazy and call the dr. about it b/c they have appts. next Friday, but it is starting to concern me ...

And my hair is already starting to fall out, and I''m only 8 weeks PP!! I''m losing a ton of it in the shower every day, which bums me out so much! Not looking forward to the fuzzies. I remember Katie Holmes had them really bad!

Ella, glad you liked the cakesters. I eat them everyday and then complain about not losing weight
20.gif
Yes, I am THAT pathetic!

Jas12, Every dream I had I was having a girl. I started feeling that way pretty early. I can''t remember exactly when, maybe I commented on this thread about it. Also I felt the way I carried and all those old wive''s tales said I was having a girl. I would have been SHOCKED if she came out a boy!

So DH just told me last night he might not be able to come to AZ with us next weekend
29.gif
32.gif
23.gif
I KNOW it''s b/c of work but I am terrified about flying with her alone for the first time (and such a long trip). Seriously, I thought I was going to have a panic attack when he told me. There is a layover, it is short layover as well so there might be rushing, I will have to BF, occupy her (what if I have to go to the bathroom?) it is seriously too much for me to think about. I am freaked out. I just hope this closing can happen before we leave so he can come with us....
