Friends of ours just had a little boy last night, and they named him Joshua. I can't wait to see him. Other friends of ours have a 6 week old baby boy. We've been over to see him a couple of times and on one visit, his mom pumped and let me feed him from a bottle. It was an absolutely precious moment, and it made my baby fever even worse!

Congratulations Curlygirl and Irish Eyes! Curlygirl, the pics of your daughter are adorable! I''m happy for you both!

*Not pregnant here but my FI and I decided to start trying after the wedding in September. I''m excited!

Irish I am so happy for you and your DH! Congratulations and be sure to post a pic of your baby girl soon!

Dixie, it is so exciting you will start TTC soon. I wish you all the luck!

Skippy, I love the idea of tracking our due dates. I forget all the time! I just remember Diver and njc are before me.

Ell, let us know what the doctor says. Mine would have been WAYYYY off if I went by my LMP. It will be interesting to see if my second scan agrees with my first (regarding due date).

Congratulations to Irish and Curly and all the new mommies-to-be.......... but oh my goodness this thread is KILLING ME!!!
31.gif

I've been baby-obsessed my whole life and now that we're actually married (as of 3 weeks ago!), the baby fever is out of control!! We spent the weekend at the beach and it seemed like there were glowing pregnant women and sweet little babies toddling around everywhere I looked... and my mom and mother-in-law aren't helping... especially after my MIL's neighbors' daughter came to visit with her 7-month-old triplets!
19.gif

DH and I are both emotionally ready, but logistically not so much... though we love living in the city, I'm not sure if it's realistic to have a baby in our 1-bedroom, 900 s.f. apartment. And also since traffic in and out of the city is such a pain... the grandparents would not be happy about how difficult it would be to come visit regularly! Plus we are living on just one income (his) while I finish my grad program, so it would be hard to dive right into parenthood without my bringing in some sort of money first, and I really don't want to work full-time while being a mommy.

But I'm almost 28 years old, we've been talking about our future kids for the last 4 years, and I'm ready!! WAH
39.gif
...so in the meantime, I will live vicariously through all of you... keep the pix and stories coming!!
36.gif

Actually, question for all the knowledgeable mommies out there... if you were on the pill/patch/ring, how far in advance did you go off it before TTC? I''ve been on the pill and now the ring for over 10 years, so I''m wondering how much time my body will need to adjust to NOT being on birth control... but I guess maybe there''s no way of knowing? Just curious about other people''s experiences.....

36.gif
Congrats IRISH!!! Can''t wait to see pics of Ashlyn Rae -- what a gorgeous name! Hope you''re all doing fabulously and adjusting to all the changes well!

Ephemery, speaking for myself, I was on the pill for 10 years, went off it this past November and got pregnant (without paying attention to ovulation cycles or anything) in early April, so I had either four or five cycles once I went off the pill. I''d heard that your body needs six months or so to adjust to being off BC, but I''ve heard of plenty of people getting preggo way before six months!

Tacori, I''ll definitely keep you all posted after my first appt -- I can''t believe it''s finally this week! What a looooong few weeks this has been in anticipation! I''m trying to not get my hopes up about an ultrasound as I know many people haven''t had them till 12 weeks, but of course I totally hope I get one! But either way, so long as the appt. goes well, I''ll be happy ...

Tacori, thanks! I feel a definite calming presence when I think about having a new baby.. and I need that given everything else these days!!

Eph, my dr. told me that you really don''t need to wait at all in between going off birth control and starting to try. She said that the birth control''s affects are temporary so there''s no need to wait before trying. But I spoke w/a good friend of mine who''s studying to be a naturopath and she disagreed. She said to start taking the pre-natal vitamins before trying to conceive and go off birth control at least a few months in advance to let your system re-adjust. It makes sense to me that the views would be different based on different types of dr.''s. Our plan is to go off about 2 months before we start trying.

Actually my doc said it is important to have at least one period OFF BC and she perfers two. She said you need to get all those hormones out of you. I went off the pill (and it was seasonale so I only had my period 4 x a year) in late Nov. We started trying Jan. 1, I got preggo around Jan 20th.
37.gif
I was on the pill for about 13 years and while I was having irregular periods (40 day cycle) clearly it did not effect my fertility. Honestly we just got really lucky to concieve the first month. Everyone's body reacts differently but I would stop BC a few months before you are going to TTC.

My u/s have always been a seperate appointment so you will probably know in advance if they are going to give you one. I am sure the appointment will go well. It is pretty routine. Be prepared to give blood (so stay hydrated so it is easier to find a vein). We preggos get tons of test. Have you told everyone yet? We couldn''t keep our mouths shut we were too excited. It is starting to look real now that I actually LOOK preggo (well I think I do). My MIL just looks at my belly and smiles. Our familes are as excited as we are. Still waiting to feel movement. Come on baby! Wake up!! Hehe.

EDD 10.28.07

Oh, and yes, definitely start taking prenatal vitamins before you ever start trying to conceive -- I think I started taking mine back last summer maybe?

Wow, Tacori, I knew it happened quickly for you guys, but I didn''t realize it happened that quickly!! How fantastic! How old are you, by the way? I''m going to be 36 this weekend, and clearly age had no affect on my getting pregnant quickly!

I wish I remember what the woman told me over the phone when I made the appt. about whether or not there was going to be an u/s. I was still so in the "OMG, I''m pregnant?!" mindset that a lot of things went in one ear and out the other! Yep, we''ve told tons of people already. I am the world''s worst secret-keeper even with small things, so there was no way I could keep this news to myself/ourselves!

Question for you all: are you all having hospital deliveries with MDs? Or are any having doulas, midwives, homebirths? I met up with a friend of mine this weekend who is due in late August (I''m so envious of her cute belly! Can''t wait for mine!), and she told me she''s having the baby at home. And while I think it''s totally anyone''s choice to do what they feel is right, and I''m not judging her choice, for me, I want hospital, drugs, and technology all the way! What are your thoughts?

Ell, it did happen quickly!!! Of course DH credits himself for his "hole in one." I am planning on going back on the pill as soon as I deliver to avoid Irish twins(progrestrone only). We were both shocked but thrilled. I will be 27 years old in a few weeks. Usually they will tell you if it is a u/s. If this is your first visit I doubt you will have one (but probably on your next). They really need your history, pap (if you are due), internal exam sort of thing this time around. My DH was very bored. haha. Remember you will start going every 4 weeks. We are using an OB. Both our dads are doctors and would not be cool with MW. I am also delivering at a main hospital vs. satelite (sp?) hospital that doesn't have all the equipment. This way if there are any problems the baby or I don't have to be transfered to the main hospital.

So many posts, I just kind of skimmed... sorry! Thanks for all the ideas of freezing. I have thought about those meal places, but none are close by. I could make and freeze something in the time I could drive out there and I enjoy cooking. We shall see.

Curly – What a cute little girl you have there!!! Thanks for sharing. Hope you guys are still doing great!

Irish – Congrats! Sorry for the whole we’re full ordeal. What a lovely name… cant wait to see pics when you get a chance! Enjoy your little love bug!!!

Ephemery – I was on BC for 7 years, went off in Oct and started trying in Jan. DH was a little disappointed we only got to try for one month. My Doc was happy to see I had 2 periods off before getting pregnant. I have always been like clock work, so there was little surprise for me, but I have watched some women have crazy cycles coming off BC. Oh, and PLEASE use something until you are ready! I have 2 friends that went off BC and thought their bodies would need time to adjust and wound up pregnant. It’s a good thing, but wasn’t part of their plan, so they were a little upset it happened so early, know what I mean?

Ella – I had to wait 20 weeks for my u/s. I hope you get one though. It was fun! I think home births are neat, but we are going the traditional route with my doc and the hospital. My group has 4 docs and whoever is on call, gets to make the lucky delivery!

Diver - I thought of you yesterday... saw an inflatable pool in a toy store and thought how nice that would feel since its been in the 90s! I also thought about the look DH would give me if I had bought it! I think you are doing great weight wise too! My neighbor made a comment about all the yard work I did this weekend and my comment back was, as long as I can do it easy, its one less pound on my body!

Glad everyone is doing well. Nothing new here. Have gotten about half my stuff sold on craigs list, so the babys room is getting closer to being empty so we can start painting and what not. Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was finding a fabulous CK dress for my brothers wedding (I’m going to be a BM) that works excellent with the ever expanding belly and will be great post-baby too! SIL-to-be just asked that we find long black dresses, so that was nice.

Ephemery: Being on the pill actually "preserves" your fertility so to speak, since you don''t release an egg each month (we have a set number of eggs & do not make new ones throughout our lifespan). In fact, many women find they are most fertile that first month off the pill (which is why its so easy to get pregnant if you skip a few pills on accident, your ovaries go "whoa!" and release an egg).

My cousin skipped two pills on accident & got prego with twins that month. She took the pills when she figured it out, and kept doing it for the month, but ooooh, was her hubby steamed. LOL.

Some docs will tell you to wait 3 or 4 months, more for you to get rid of any "bad habits", like smoking, alcohol (although I drank socially up until I got positive home pregnancy tests...not a lot, but wine here or there...but I''m really laid back---I also drink coffee while TTC & pregnant...all with my OB''s blessing I might add) and to make sure you are taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid for at least 3 months before getting pregnant.

I was on the pill from age 18 to 33 non-stop.

For my son, I went off the pill in January 03, but didn''t get pg right away (due to a bad fibroid I had to have surgically removed 8 months later, but then I got pg the 2nd cycle after my surgery--lost that one, but then got pg my next try)

I went back on the pill again in January 04 and then went off it in Sept 06, and got pregnant that month.....but I lost that one, went back on the pill again and went off in December & was pregnant in January with the little one I''m carrying now.

Hope that helps. (fyi, my miscarriages are due to low progesterone & age (36) --- not the pill...my OB had to put me on 200mg of progesterone for the first 14 weeks of this latest pg to keep it.)

21.gif
Elaila: I had a hospital delivery with an MD for my son & the same doctor for my daughter this coming september. I read some statistic that only 1% of babies are born in home births. I live in a pretty "hippie" town (Portland, OR) so doulas, midwives, natural childbirth are widely utilized here. I've known 2 girls here who did it, one had her boy just fine, the other lost hers because she couldn't get help in time (and we are in a city with hospitals all over & close).
8.gif

I personally didn't want to leave the hospital. Maternity wards are so nice now...many have you labor & deliver in the same private room, you have these amazing nurses helping you for DAYS (by law you can stay for 48 hours after a vaginal birth, 72 for c-section..I say milk every second you can there) and people bring you food, beverages, drink and you don't have to lift a g.d. finger. It's almost as good as a hotel, except for the food sucking...LOL.
25.gif
I couldn't imagine giving birth at home, with my clutzy german shepherd sticking her snout where it doesn't belong & the birth ruining my sheets & expensive mattress, and then having to deal with all the "home" things that weigh on us, or even my 2 year old. Thank you but no thank you. Drop the dog at the kennel, the son at g'parents, and take me to the land of hospitals & epidurals. LOL.

Personally, I think the biggest thing is finding a caregiver (whether it is a nurse midwife or OB) that you CLICK with really well. This is a team thing and you have to work together and respect each other. I respect my doctor, a TON. He knew I wanted to avoid an episiotomy, so he did the perineal massage to help prevent one & at one point he said "I think we'll get you out of here with no episiotomy today, this is looking good", but we ran into a bit of a snag with my son's heartrate decelerating after each contraction (he had the cord wrapped around his neck 2x's) so he had to use a mini-vacuum extractor & do a TEENY episiotomy to get him out ASAP. Worked like a charm & I knew it was my job to go with the flow & realize that things don't always go the way you'd like, but that the most important thing is a healthy baby and a healthy momma in the end, however you wind up getting there.

So find a caregiver that you feel good about (and trust, because honestly, no matter how many books you read, they know more about birthin' babies than we will, and sometimes have to make life or death decisions in mere seconds sometimes, so you have to believe in them) and decide what kind of birth you want and then just trust in mother nature to get you there.

I have to admit...the whole thing is pretty cool & awe inspiring.

I had the funniest conversation with my dad last night and wanted to share it with you.

"I think we need to find out the sex of the baby" my dad said
"why?"
"Well, at least WE should know and we won''t tell you so you should be surprised" yeah right!
laughing "why?"
"well, there is a lot of stuff we need to buy"
"what do you need to buy where you NEED to know the sex?"
"I was looking through the pottery barn catalog,"
23.gif
my NEVER shops and I know has never set foot in a pottery barn "and we need bedding, clothes, they have really cool stuff...."

It''s SOOO funny and unexpected! It is so cute he is into this. My mom said he was picking out cribs
31.gif
So then I changed the subject and let him know we were excited to see the 20 week scan. That really got him going!
"Oh, send me the picture so I can see if it is a boy or a girl!" Which he probably could or find an OB doc to read the scan. So I think DH and I will doctor the photo with a big smilely face or a censored bar across if the baby does have its legs open.

(Ohh, and I even rhymed!!) It's fun seeing our parents get so excited over the babies, isn't it?

So, I had my first appt. this morning and she was having a hard time hearing the heartbeat so she sent me for an ultrasound. The tech very casually asked as she was doing it, "So did you conceive naturally?" and we said yes, and she said, "Oh. Because it's twins."

TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, we are in such total and utter shock right now!! Happy shock, but definite shock!!

Turns out I'm 9 weeks (yesterday) instead of 10 weeks as we thought, so my new "due" date is 1/2/08, but I really can't see that I'd go full term with twins, so I'm assuming it'd be a mid-late December birth?? Dani, maybe you could help me out here -- how many weeks do twins pregnancies typically go?

TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
36.gif

Wow I cannot even imagine having twins! Congratulations!!! I don''t think twins ususally go full term but Dani would know more than me. Good thing you got a new house!

wow!! twins!?!!!?!

Huge congrats to you!!!! Wow.. what a great thing (scary I''m sure!!)

Congrats again.. that is great news!!
