Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

just wanted to thank everyone i missed for the warm welcome
37.gif
- you guys are great and i hope to ''fully'' join this thread in a few weeks when i feel more confident about how things are progressing.

thank you!!

Shoot, I missed so much! I''ll head over to the newly opened mommy thread and see what''s going on!!
9.gif

Okay, my child has finally given in to a nap! I'm going to try and catch up a little....but I will try and keep my mommy related stuff over on the mommy thread from here on out....it's hard to make a "clean break" though!

Jen~Great belly shot!!

Jess~I remember the "counting down the days" The end is hard and it feels like it drags on and on, but before you know it you'll have your precious little one in your arms! Sorry to hear about the situation with your house. That must be so frustrating...and super bad timing!

Curly~Thanks! She really is doing great on solids so hopefully we're getting somewhere!

Tacori~

YAY!!!! Mamma!!!! I seriously had tears in my eyes when I read this. That has to be the best!! Our T loves her paci too! Only to get to sleep, though. We know for sure she's sleepy if she takes the paci! I'm not ready to phase it out yet...but I surely won't let her have it at age 2. Did you see the paci fairy on Supernanny? I just saw an episode where she did that and it was so cute!

Jas12~T is my experiment too...I think all kids are really. I think we'll be experimenting with the next ones too, as they're all different! Good thing they don't know the difference and don't remember!
2.gif

erica K~Congrats, and I can totally relate to being a little apprehencive about diving in head first with a preggo thread. Take your time. I didn't even tell most of my friends I was preggo until 13 weeks. I tend to worry a lot thoug...

Gemma~your little belly is so cute!!

Ella~I heard about that story on the radio this morning!! That is so sad. Everyone was calling in and saying it's because of Jamie Lynn Spears being a bad roll model, yada yada yada, but as a teacher I can sadly say that this stuff has gone on for longer than Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy. Some kids have bad parents and they think that a baby will be someone to love them forever. It's so sad, but happens all the time. We have two highschools in our city that have daycares in them! oh, and I responded to the other baby stuff on the mommy thread.
21.gif

Kaleigh~Thanks so much for this thread!

erica, it has happened several times in TTC which is fine. Though I do think it is silly since all the posters there WANT to get preggo. You would think they would want to hear advice/experience from those who have been there. But to each their own I guess. I found out I was pregnant SOOO early. Like record breaking early and we told our family ASAP. I guess I had a good feeling about it. But I do know how scary it is to feel excited until you know 100% everything is okay. Except the thing is you *never* know everything is 100% okay. You start to worry as soon as you see that second line and I think it never stops. I still worry (except about different things). I worry something will happen. That she will be unhappy. List goes on...I think I "joined" this thread around 6 weeks after our first u/s.

Indy, you are right there is nothing you can do. But I wish all of the "barely preggos" the best of luck.

sbde, I hope you have a wonderful and smooth pregnancy.

Jas12, what is "dream feed"? I have never heard of that before?

Burk, you are sweet. Your T will be saying it soon I am sure! It is very heart warming. I love that when I laugh *really* hard, SHE starts laughing. Then I laugh longer b/c she is laughing and it is so cute. It is great. I did see that on supernanny. I thought it was a great idea. My neighbor said she cut the tips so her son didn''t like then anymore. I thought that was a good idea. I do not regret the paci use (yet anyways). It makes life easier.

Re twins: Yes my aunt was late with my twin cousins. She was as shocked as anyone! They were born a week before my brother who was 3 months early
23.gif
so I guess you just never know. I think my neighbor had her c-sec at 36 weeks (or 37???) and both her boys were over 6lbs. She was on bed rest though.

Okay, back to where I belong!

question for all the preggos and mommies out there.

is there any definitive list of moisturizers/creams that are safe to use when pregnant? i was just about to open my new Estee Lauder Hydra Bright moisturizer but the laundry list of ingredients (in miniscule print mind you) is making me rethink whether i should be putting this on my face.

please let me know!

thank you!

I use Cetaphil every day on my face and body. I love it!

I must say that my skin has reacted to pregnancy really well (don''t hate me!). I had acne growing up that only got better when I got on the pill and I was worried about how I would look while preggo. So far so good.

Baby is so squirmy lately! No more kicks and punches but lots of squirms and rolls. My stomach takes on the weirdest shapes sometimes depending on what he/she is doing in there

Okay - back to work for me....

Thanks Tacori! I''m staying fairly calm I think. Calm, but not confident! I hope I never forgot to thank you for advice. I do know for sure that I always ALWAYS appreciate it. Sometimes I can be a little ADD.

So, how many of you mommies quit caffeine?

safefetus.com was my bible when I was preggo. Yes there are certain things you need to avoid.

ETA: Indy, hopefully my experiences can help. It really is trial and error. Every baby and pregnancy is different. You are about the start the hardest adventure of your life!

having the mommy bond saved my sanity.

DD, 4 newly preggos posting is A LOT! I don''t think there was anyone due around the same time as me posting from the start. Diver was 1.5 months ahead. Njc was the closest to my EDD but I guess she is busy (we miss you! Post soon!) So to have 4 women (and I am sure a few more will join you soon) is awesome! I don''t understand if you were TTC why you need an adjustment thread. I vote to move to a mommy thread so all the preggos can comfortably post *together*. I know the times I post in TTC I am usually ignored so maybe I need to understand that some people aren''t ready to know *everything*.
Tacori, you''re right, I feel really lucky to have a preggo cohort to share this experience with, and I know that ever since I joined PS I was looking forward to joining the preggo thread and learning from the PS mommies already on here. You always have great advice and I am sorry if you have felt ignored in the TTC thread at times. I know for me personally, since it took 3 months to conceive, there were times when I was really emotional and depressed, so I probably wasn''t as conscientious as I should have been. I really appreciate all your help and advice.

DD, I am hoping I didn''t offend you. Obviously your thread was received well and I said as much. I don''t think I put what I said well at all and apologize if I sounded harsh.
1.gif
Tgal, thanks for clarifying... I may have been a leeeeeetle offended, but then I may also be a leeeeeetle hormonal
3.gif

BTW I also felt teary when I read birth stories, those are such beautiful events!

Quit caffeine? Not entirely. I was never a big coffee drinker so I have cut out all coffee but I still drink decafe iced tea, some Starbucks occasionally, and eat chocolate. It''s hard to cut caffeine out entirely. The key is moderation.

Now that the mommies have their new thread, I do hope that the "barely preggo" ladies post regularly here. I think eph said it the best - the "halfway preggos" want to get to know you "newly preggos" too! Please do join us!
35.gif

DD, you do know that 3 months is a short time TTC, right? I have a friend that took 9 months. Another that took a year. I seriously understanding getting excited and wanting to have things happen ASAP. But trust me, your emotions haven''t seen anything yet! I cry when I think about how much I love my daughter. It is so overwhelming.

My advice is honest. I don''t sugarcoat anything so I guess maybe it is scary sometimes. But I have always said with everything (stretch marks, acne, fat, swollen, puffy, tired, painful, uncomfortable, sore, etc...) she is 100% WORTH IT! Someday I''ll even do it again.

I have been on PS long enough to know *most* people aren''t being rude on purpose. So don''t worry. I just probably won''t lurk there anymore
11.gif

As soooon as there''s a heartbeat, I will be on here regularly!
35.gif
Until then, I''ll mostly lurk I think. See you mommies soon I hope!

Thanks for the link! Safefetus.com looks like an excellent bible indeed.

Thanks so much for the welcome Snlee! PS is the greatest. Did I tell you that you have the cutest baby bump?

I hadn''t really thought about how the "halfway" preggos would want to get to know the "newly preggos"... but you have all made it clear that you like the idea of an inclusive thread so I am going to choose to be optimisitc about my pregnancy and take the leap over here!
9.gif

Okay, here is something I asked in the other thread, but I am curious about all your answers too: Before you knew the gender of your baby, what did you call him/her?

I call my embryo "Hoonan Banana", which is the joke name that I threatened to give our firstborn when DH and I first started dating. (The "Banana" part was a play on Gweneth Paltrow naming her baby "Apple").

Fess up... what are your strange embryo/fetus names?

You know, I was thinking about this last night too...

The reason I LOOOOVE this preggo thread is it''s like Christmas! You know presents are coming and you just can''t wait to see what it is! Even though I don''t always respond to all the preggo posts, they soak in and I find myself getting genuinely excited and bonding with the new preggos. I''m totally excited to see all these twins and singletons. I feel the ache and frustration when someone fails an hour GD test and really hope that they pass the 3 hour. As they get more into the pregnancy I''m totally VESTED in it and can''t WAIT to see the new bundles of joy. I don''t know if I would feel that way if I weren''t reading their trials and tribs...many of which happen in the first trimester.

I see that Tacori had the mommy thread opened up so I will hop over there to post mommy stuff and reserve my post here for preggo talk and support. All you new preggos should have YOUR thread to talk about YOUR experiences without having to weed through all my garbage about Amelia''s sleep experiences.
20.gif
I am totally commiting to following both threads...there are too many pregnancies here I am excited about!

DD, I am glad you joined us over here and again, I am sorry if I offended you. New mommies are hormonal too ya know...

I quit caffeine...not a problem when it came to coffee but I LOVE iced tea. And it really doesn''t have much, but for some reason, I could not get myself to drink it while preggo. Total mental thing.

But I ate chocolate. So obviously preggo reasoning is not all that logical.

Mine was TTot on pricescope. In real life, it was Baby Snotty (there''s a gross reason for that). But since I refered to the fetus a lot more on pricescope, TTot ended up winning over in my mind. When Amelia was born, I had a hard time calling her Amelia (as evidenced earlier in this thread) and still referred to her for about a week a TTot.

I didn''t quit caffeine. I lived on one coke a day. it''s the only thing that settled my morning sickness that I had with jake. I''m not a big coffee drinker but if we did go to starbucks I''d order decaf b/c the caffiene amount in coffee is really high.

Meant to say decaf Starbucks drinks. I can't bring myself to drink caffeinated coffee drinks.

DD, thanks!

TGal, I'm glad you'll continue to follow this thread. I hope all the new mommies do (when you have the time of course). I know it can be time consuming. You all have such great advice! I will try to follow the mommies thread as well because I have a lot to learn from you ladies about motherhood!

Nickname - we didn't have one. We just referred to it as baby or it.

hi guys!
as much as i will miss the mommies'' expertise, i think it''s probably wise to break the threads... hopefully we will all visit each other''s (and of course, we all end up in the same place...wonder how long THAT thread will take to get overwhelmed!!). :)

in the beginning (and still sometimes now) we call our little guy "little bu" (b/c as ridiculous as it sounds, "bu" is what DH and i call each other). he''s also been nicknamed "shrek" which rhymes with our last name, and most recently, "cagefighter."

regarding ingredients in skin products, i personally wouldn''t worry too much. there is such a minute amount that actually gets absorbed (if any at all), that unless you''re putting GOBS all over your body, it should NOT affect systemic levels at all. that being said, i would stay away from retinoids (retin A, retinol). these compounds are related to systemic accutane (isotretinoin) which is a known teratogen. truly, i believe the risk even with topical retin-A is completely theoretic, but why take a risk?

does that help?

hope everyone is well. i have my official graduation tonight. i thought i would wear my rehearsal dinner dress from 1 year ago (which is kind of babydoll style), but alas it wouldn''t zip, AND was too tight on my rapidly enlarging butt. AAARRRGH. i had to RUN over to babystyle and i picked up a cute dress for %25 off...not too bad!!

btw....GEMMA and JEN...you guys look amazing. i looooove belly shots!!!! :)

So, how many of you mommies quit caffeine?

I used to drink tea everyday before I got pregnant. In my first trimester, I was really careful and quit caffeine completely. Because I was worried about m/c. Since I got into the 2nd trimester, I had my occasional coffee, tea, chocolate and soda. It''s ok in moderation.

Fess up... what are your strange embryo/fetus names?

I called her "Peanut" because she looked like peanut in the first u/s. Not very original. hehe.

LIA - Congratulations on your graduation!!!

LIA what are you graduating from?

BTW I love belly shots too! I know that many preggos lament about the changes in their bodies, but I think preggos are always beautiful!

It''s not a REAL graduation (not quite as big of a deal)...I guess they just call it that...

DD, I''m finishing my dermatology residency (THANK GOODNESS). It''s been a long road with 4 years med school and then 4 years of residency, and I am SO READY to not be a "student" anymore!!!

Thanks for the congrats QT!!

Wow LIA, that is so cool! I just got my PhD a year ago after 6 years of grad school, so I know how you feel. I''m on a post-doc as a researcher right now.

Hey, what is the attitude towards women having kids in the medical profession? It is a very bad attitude in academia, which is where I hope to work soon (knock wood).. is it different in med-land?

PS if everyone doesn''t mind, can they just shout out how far along they are?? I know I could read back but that would take a loong time and I wouldn''t know where to look!

I am 4 weeks as of today. haha... that''s NOTHING!

I am one of the ones who is almost there. I will be 34 weeks exactly tomorrow. I can''t believe how fast it passed by.
