Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Jen and Erica

Is it possible that your DH's just are not at all good at coming up with names? My DH is also very good at vetoing...but not so good at coming up with names. When I say that he has "top names", these are ALL from my master list of names that I have gotten going through a baby book. I wouldn't take it personally...I think often men just have a problem visualizing/imagining things, so they aren't super creative when it comes to finding names.

I think many men have a hard time visualizing anything at all...names included. The very few names my DH has added to the list are all characters in the latest book he is reading.
20.gif

We also have a system where I highlight in red my and DH's personal favorites and then the other person knows that it's a favorite and to only veto it if they really really really hate it.

And Jen- If he is vetoing your names with abandon, then feel free to veto his too! You shouldn't have to live with Marie if he isn't willing to live with your favorite.

I think this is true of most men for sure! My DH didn''t come up with any names and when I asked him to, he said, "Awww I suck at that!" He just wanted me to come up with ones I like and then he shot down a bunch (e.g, "Sorcha", yes, I agree, it sounds like a whale''s name
3.gif
) and finally agreed that he liked some.

We actually had our boy''s name picked about a year ago
20.gif
and it took until about 2 months ago to choose our girl''s name. For some reason I found it much harder to pick a girls name? I really wanted Celtic/Irish names, and although our boy''s name is Irish, I simply couldn''t pick any Gaelic/celtic girls names to save my life!

If you are curious, right now the boy''s name is Declan Anthony and our girl''s name is Bianca Marie.. (shhhh don''t tell anyone, we are keeping the names a secret
2.gif
)

Yes JEN the dreaded Marie! LOL!!
3.gif
It is my grandma''s middle name so I thought it was a nice "shout out" and I think it sounds pretty with "Bianca". "Anthony" is a shout out to my grandpa''s side of the family. Like you, Indy, I feel like they get my DH''s last name so I get preference on choosing family names!

Indy--
I had a very similar dream last night. And then when I woke up, all I could think was, 'Twins, I just know it, I'm going to have twins, and then I definitely won't be able to teach in the spring.' Talk about being the eternal pessimist!

Erika, my best friend is convinced I am having twins
33.gif
I keep telling her that is against the odds since so many of my PS friends have twins or are expecting them, but of course, in my real life I don't know a single family with twins, so who knows??!!

Today (18 DPO) I POAS and got SUUUPER dark line, it showed up before the control line even appeared! I told my BFF and she said, "Well then you must be having twins! LOL!!

Who knows...

ETAL love the new avatar, is that your kitty in a box??

Dreamer -- I love the names you two have picked -- and LOL about Marie, but i think it sounds great after Bianca
1.gif
It''s my great-grandmother''s first name and my grandmother''s middle name, so i warmed up to it a bit -- but i like a bit more of a "unique" first name myself (i''ve been stuck with Jennifer my whole life and hate it!!) I found girl names to be more difficult too!

NF -- I think men in general are just wired so differently! At first when I started coming up with my lists, I told him I''d go through the books and write down everything that i could even remotely deal with and we could work from there. Well, DH suggested that he should make a list too (yay!!!) and we could see if anything matched up -- i was ALL FOR THAT! But of course, a few pages into the first book he was bored, hadn''t written anything down and esentially gave up. I didn''t ask about it for a while b/c i saw him actually check out some sites online with names, but then he never thought anything was worth writing down. Right off the bat he thought that going through a list *I* made was unfair. And yes, he has made one other suggestion for a name ever -- it was Pandora. he likes his sci-fi books. Ugh! I agree that if he''s not willing to work with mine, i shouldn''t work with his, but these will be his only children --- i want so so badly to find a compromise!

Speaking of this --- after he''d been home for a bit today, I asked him if we could discuss names... he didn''t answer at first and i asked if he heard me he sadi "yes" -- so i asked if he meant yes he heard me or yes we could discuss names, and he said we could discuss names -- yay! And then he layed down on the bed and turned the fan on, closed his eyes and went right to sleep. At that point, i came back and got on the computer. I give up. They can be "a" and "b" for freakin ever!

Jen, I actually like the name Pandora a lot! tee hee... I bet that helps so much
3.gif

ETA: thanks for the compliment on our names too!

ETA2: I also like sci-fi, that's where I got Sorcha. Other names DH vetod (but maybe your DH will like??): Killashandra, Arya, Sansa, Circe, Guinivere, Boudica... hmmm... actually now I see why thet got vetoed! The only one we seriously seriouly considered was Arya, which I still like but not with our last name.

All I can think about when I think about the name Pandora are all the references that will be made about her "box" when she gets to middle/high school.
9.gif

I have such a dirty mind...sorry!

You owe me a new computer screen. I just spit water out all over mine.

Jen, I guess maybe you should put some new books out for your husband to read. Keep him away from Dickens and others of that ilk, or Baby A may end up being "Fifi Snifflebottom" or something like that.

Dreamer, love the names!

Hi to everyone I''m not mentioning by name because I am a total dweeb.

I had actually wanted to name one of the boys "Graham," as that is my mom''s maiden name...and just a cool name in general. Sadly, one of the side effects of being among the last of a group of friends to have kids is that a lot of great names are taken. DH''s best friend''s kid is named that. Great kid, by the way.

I "napped" for five hours today, which tells me I''m in for a growth spurt. Ugh. I am positively planetary at this point.

Had breakfast with a childhood friend whom I had not seen in 15 years. It was touchy because she''s been TTC for 5 years and was asking me lots of baby questions, but with such sadness. I tried to keep the conversation focused on other things, like her job and my other activities (which I really miss talking about IRL), but she kept coming back to it. So of course to compensate for my discomfort, I ate a whole omlete, a side of taters, and some toast. Then I waddled home.

I''m getting some nasty ol'' skin tags, which are not only unattractive, but also itchy. Whee!

Twin mamas, start expecting, "Wow, for someone carrying twins you look great!" comments. I hate the caviat.

My dog rested his wee head on my tummy today (we do "bedrest" together) and got a swift kick from one of the tots (I have no idea what their orientation is right now...it just feels like I have an octopus in there). It was the funniest thing in the world. Doggie just raised his head and looked at me like, "Ok, really? Really with the kicking?"

I have the oddest feeling today that I will be going at 33 weeks...need to change that mindset.

Super dark line doesn't necessarily mean it's twins. By now your HGC levels are high. I POAS 3 times - 17, 19, 21 DPO. I got 3 very dark lines every time - darker lines than the control line that appeared before the control line. With our first test, we actually got the control and test lines confused because of how fast and dark the test line appeared!

If there's another set of PS twins I will be SHOCKED! I will need to stay away from PS when we TTC #2!

Agreed. I think if I POAS now, the thing would create some sort of rift in space and time.

Although I would welcome more twin mommies, I would be amazed at the odds! Take that, statistics! (And for all you mathy people, yeah, I know...)

Oh, and just because I am feeling silly today for some reason...

Regarding posts about having a male sex organ growing inside...(I''m being careful because I don''t want to be banned)

A friend emailed me and asked how it felt to have two growing inside. Do you know how much restraint it took to answer that seriously???

So I just checked this thread and read the last post first (Jen''s)... but just had to reply about the baby name dilemma! As soon as I started reading that your DH wanted Marie, I thought "oooh, they could use Marina!"... LOVE that name.
30.gif
Sorry he''s being disagreeable though
38.gif
... I wonder if maybe he''ll come around eventually? Sometimes my DH reacts strongly at first and then eventually realizes he really doesn''t care that much. I feel your pain though... I HATE when we disagree on things where I feel really strongly about it, and he''s just not understanding why. I got REALLY lucky having DH agree to our baby name... I still remember the day I told him that Lyla was my top girl choice (we were in the car, driving to a concert last summer) and how nervous I was that he would veto it... and I wasn''t even pregnant yet! Are there any other Marie-ish names he would approve of? Maura maybe?

Janine, ''gush'' does sound a little worrying to me too. Did you call your doc? Is it OK?

Gosh I am just feeling SO much more optimistic today. I had psycho dreams though, and actually woke up from one in excruciating pain. When I was awake my first thought was ''this is it, I''m going to have an m/c'' but as I woke up more and more, I realized that the pain was only in the dream. Weird, I don''t remember ever feeling pain in a dream before!

Neat & Jen, our deal is that the babies take DH''s last name, and I get to pick their first names, subject to his veto if he absolutely hates it. As far as I''m concerned, he has already given them a name (the last name), so it''s my turn. Any name I pick will connect them to my family, and their last name connects them to his.
2.gif
Oh yeah, that and the fact that I have to carry and give birth to them.
11.gif

Indy - I had the same logic. I told DH before I got pregnant that I get to pick our future kids'' names because he got the last name already. But he didn''t buy that. But he basically just picked from a list of names I liked.

I know, I''m lame. But I think given all the blooood and cramping and stuff that I just find it comforting "Oh look, I''m still knocked up!". Except of course that, rationally, my hormones would still be a-ragin if the Cub had died in there. But whatever works, right.

Anyway, who doesn''t like POAS? Seeing those fun twin lines come up. It''s like magic!

Well I POAS on 11, 12, and 13 DPO, then somehow lasted 5 days without it?? Probably just because I didn't have any tests in the house
3.gif
I am still temping every morning, which I also find reassuring, though of course the further along the less diagnostic that would be...

I am now 18 DPO which makes me feel safe that this isn't a chemical prgnancy

We'll see how it goes as I wait for SEVEN MORE WEEKS until I get an u/s... siggghhhh... must have faith I guess. I feel great!

snlee & indy: well it was gush as in how your period feels or heavy discharge. I tried to read up on it and it seems that it should be ok as long as not accompanied by any other symptoms and not too heavy. I didn''t call my doctor--originally because I was on vacation and didn''t want to deal with ER''s if it wasn''t something serious. Maybe I''m a bit in denial but things seem fine since then.

janine, was there any clear fluids or dijanine, was there any clear fluids or discharge? If you don''t give your doctor a call, you may want to mention it to him/her at your next visit. Just to be sure everything is okay.

jen, I''m sorry you are having problems naming your girls. I hope your DH comes around. Makes me so angry he fell asleep when he said he would discuss it! Argh! If you don''t like Marie, veto it. It''s only fair since your DH is vetoing your names you suggest. How about each of you giving one girl their first name and the other one gets to choose the middle name. Of course it should be names both of you like and can live with. Hope that makes sense. I hope the babies get a name soon so you don''t have any more frustrations over it!

Indy and qtiekiki, I like your thinking about getting to pick the first name since the baby gets his last name. Do you two still use your maiden name? I do and am wondering after the baby is born, do you plan on changing your name? I''ve considered it but I think I''m going to stick to my maiden last name even though I think it would be nice to have the same last name as my DH and children.

Pregnant belly stares - it''s becoming increasing obvious how people stare at my belly. Either they look at my face then right at my belly, or even at my belly first. I admit I do the same to other pregnant women but am thinking maybe I shouldn''t so much? It is so obvious! It''s a good thing I''m not feeling self conscious about my body (that much?) because people are looking you over all day long!

Random questions -
When did you start feeling your baby''s hiccups? How long do they usually last and how often do you feel them? I''ve read it starts at around 24 weeks. I may have felt some hiccups but I''m not positive.

When did you start counting kicks? Is the standard way to see how long you feel 10 movements? I''ve read you are supposed to at 28 weeks. Oh yeah, and how do you tell if it''s a kick, turn, or flip? I can''t tell! Maybe it''s too early.

Tell me about it! I''m grew so tired as a child being Jenny B. all the time. I want my child to have just a name, without an initial being tacked to the end. Paul likes much more "traditional" names than I do. However, since so many people are getting very, very *creative and original* in their baby''s names, traditional is becoming unique again. Funny how trends go, huh?

You''ll find something you both like eventually. You have til November, right?
9.gif

We''ve been talking names for ages, and the names we like are like a combination of his names and mine, first and middles that fit together. I know the chances of us actually holding to them to the point of conception and birth is small, but I just love what we''ve agreed to for a girl. And I like the boy name now, too.

I read once that on average a baby''s name changes 4 times prior to birth, though.... Better not get too attached!

Hi Everyone- Just wanted to give you a little update on my appt. today. I had my regular 12 wk appt with my ob(I think it was 10 minutes long)- we got to hear the heartbeat with a doppler so I was a happy happy girl. Then some stroller browsing and off to the Nuchal Trans test- Everything went well but omg I get scared so easily! The baby was asleep I guess and was not moving at all. The tech was really pressing on my stomach to try to wake him/her up but it wasn''t working. I asked if there was a heartbeat and he "played" it for us but then turned off the volume. It made me feel relieved but I still wanted to see the l.o. move. He had me lay on my side and cough for a few minutes. He tried again and the baby still didin''t move alot but was jumping around a bit- it was kind of funny to see. He also kept rolling to his side(him or her) like he didn''t want to be bothered. The scan went really fast(I expected it to be longer and the guy to be more "teachy" and show us the baby, but no dice). The dr. came in and said the measurements looked good- that we would get the final results after a week(with the blood test). Hope this wasn''t too long- it was kind of a vent too!! I had an idea it would be a little different-
Thanks for all the good wishes from so many of you. I appreciate your support.

Jen- sorry you are having trouble with the names- my dh can be stubborn and we haven''t crossed this road yet- we''ll see how it goes.

Neatfreak - it seems like you guys have a good name choosing system going.
I love the name Glynnis- nobody else has said they like it but I think it''s cool.

DD- wow you guys already have names picked out? I feel like I am behind the 8 ball but I have always been a procrastinator. Maybe I will need to see the l.o. before I can pick a name?

Jas- i like the story about your dog and the baby kicks. so cute. I guess he might have to get used to that , huh?

Kay- I am so excited that you got so much shopping done- I will have to live vicariously through all of you ps''ers cause we aren''t going to shop for a little while yet- but we are browsing and it''s fun.

Qt- I''m glad you don''t have to go into the field anymore- I bet it was so hot out there- will you miss it or are you happy for the change?

LIA lol that you have to "prove" that you are pregnant- some rules are so silly...You sound like you have so much going on- I hope the transition is smooth for you. Oh and your pics were so cute-

Ig I am glad you are feeling better and keep up the deep breathing!!!!

Janine- happy birthday- I turned 37 in may and my dr. tells me i am not old either- how come none of the books agree? Hope you passed the GD test and that the "gush" was nothing to worry about.

Diva- hope your diet changes are going smoothly for you! I love the carbs and am not looking forward to this test- does everyone take it? I think so but just hoping...

Ephemery- I should probably post this in the baby stuff htread but I went to vist the uppababy today- I''m in love
30.gif
(I always wanted to use that icon)! It pushed around so easily and folded up so easy too! We saw some others too but I paid the most attention to the uppababy. I need to go alone when I can spend more time. The good news is that my dh liked that one too! How can you tell online if they are selling you the 2008 or 2007? I saw some for 599 but then they are selling the narrower wheels separately for another 50 bucks. I''m not sure if I care about the narrower wheels-

If I missed anyone tonight I am sorry- Hope you are all well!!

Janine, glad things are OK!

snlee, my husband is welcome to take my name if he likes, but there is no way I would ever change my name. It would be professional suicide, but even if that weren''t the case, I wouldn''t do it because I feel a very deep connection to my family and its history, and for me my name is symbolic of that connection, so I would never separate myself from it. But that''s just me! My mom didn''t have the same last name as me, so I guess I never really thought of it as an issue. It never bothered me with my mom, so I assume it will be OK with the kiddies.

Pave, that sounds funny, trying to wake that poor baby up. Get up little guy! Get uuuup!

Well ladies, I''m off traveling for a few days. See y''all when I return!

NF--
I agree, I don''t think he''s very good at coming up with names. He also has made it clear that he doesn''t really want to devote too much time to baby-talk. He doesn''t mind when I mention something, but in general, there isn''t much interest from his end. It doesn''t worry me too much, it''s just his personality. I can tell that deep down he''s pleased, and that''s all that matters.

DD--
I love Marie as a middle name, especially with more unusual first names. And yes, that''s one of my kitties in her favorite box. I wish I had dogs, but I like cats and dogs equally. The dachshund is one of my favorite breeds, actually.

Also, my first POAS was super dark and super fast at only 11DPO. I doubt I''m having twins, though. I did ask my mom last night whether my cousins were fraternal or identical (they look ''slightly'' different to me, but in an Olsen twin kind of way). She didn''t know.

Jas--
I love the name ''Gram,'' mainly because I''m obsessed with Gram Parsons. I think it''s a wonderful name, too, but seriously what''s going on with all the great names being taken? It must be the baby boom...

Indy--
No more POAS for me! I think my husband was getting tired of me keeping them on the bathroom window sill.
14.gif

Pave--
I''m sorry your u/s didn''t go the way you thought it would. I have no idea what to expect when I go in for my first one (god knows when). It sounds like you have a mellow little baby in there, though. Sounds like things are going well, though. Yay on 12 weeks!

jas, your posts are cracking me up! How funny about your dog getting a kick. Hehe.

How is your fibroid? I hope it''s not affecting your pregnancy too much. How many hours a day are you supposed to be on bed rest? You''re not an full bed rest right?

snlee - I use a hyphenated last name, my last name - his last name. I didn''t change my last name for 2 yrs after we got married, then I lost my driver''s license and DH insists that I change my last name then. So I compromised with the hyphenated last name. Our kids will use just his last name.

I keep reading about other people feeling hiccups much earlier. I was
33.gif
, but I didn''t feel hiccups until around 32 weeks.

I never did any kick counting. My dr said as long as I feel her everyday, then I am fine. And he told me if I didn''t feel her, then drink some water and lay on my left side to wake her up. If she still doesn''t kick after that, then I need to call my dr.

pave - I like not being in the heat, but I dread sitting at the desk all day because so much of my work is based on the field work. I feel like I am not doing enough work.

Sounds like your NT scan went well (as far as the results you''ve gotten so far). Too bad you didn''t get to see your baby more.

janine
hope the gush is nothing more than the baby pushing on your bladder.
keep us posted.

great news about the numbers.

oh, to answer your previous question about boobs soreness.
yup, the soreness comes and goes. sore at the beginning in the first tri.
then went away and came back toward the end. mine wasn''t too sore at the beginning, but was ultra sensitive toward the end.

Hiccups:
they are like little pulses on your tummy.
i think i felt them around 19-20 wk.

Kick Counts:
Doctors usually recommend doing kick count around 28 wks like you said.
my midwife said to see how long it takes to get 10 kick.
you should do this at about the same day each day when the baby is most active.
my doctor said to make sure you get 10 kicks from breakfast to dinner time.
so you can go either way.

a kick or jab counts as one.
a turn may count more since you may feel his arms and legs moving too.
my midwife told me that if the baby punch out his fist and slide it across your belly -- that would be 3 count.
the punch is one, the twist is another, and the slide is another.
hope that helps.

Just checking in to say hi! I still read this thread to see how y''all are doing and hope I can offer up any advice I have that''s relevant whenever possible. It''s funny - I feel like this is like Preggo PSers 2.0 now or something b/c it clearly is a jump from the TTC thread. Us old-timers didn''t talk too much about DPO and POAS! You kids with your crazy TTC-speak and your rock and roll

Just a quick update on my twin "stats" from last week. So I asked at my twins group last night how far people went, and ... two went to 32 weeks, two went to 35 weeks, and two went to 37 weeks. Interesting! And of the 7 of us there (one girl is preggo now), FIVE got preg through fertility treatments!

Funny about whoever said that a baby''s name changes four times before they''re born -- we decided on our names early on and didn''t change them once!

Good luck to everyone with upcoming u/s and tests!

Just wanted to add I can totally relate with how hard it is coming up with names. My DH was the "no" man and shot down every name (and didn''t come up with his own!)

Finally I broke down and bought a name book and said he HAD to come up with a list of 5 girl names (we already had our boy name). Well, he came up with three but luckily Tessa was on that list.

My neighbor had her twins at 36 weeks. No fertility treatments. One of the boys had a heart problem so they induced (c-sec). At 5 months his heart is *finally* healthy!

They just took him off the meds! Good news indeed! Both were over 6 lbs.

Hello Ladies, I''ve continued to follow the thread as I waited for my little one to arrive. The wait will be over tomorrow, I''m being induced.

My OB ordered an ultrasound to check for growth last week, I knew something was up but since she had been telling me that the baby was small because I''m small. We had the ultrasound yesterday and it said that our baby girl is 6 pounds 1 ounce, which puts her at the 11th percentile, which is 1 percentile away from Intrauterine Restricted Growth. The perinatologist said he''s concerned because the baby has focused the blood flow to her brain instead of all over her body, which is a sign that she''s done growing. She is otherwise healthy and active but he recommended she comes out within 72 hours.

We then talked to our OB who agreed completely with the perinatologist. At this point I was getting a bit emotional about the news, it was a bit shocking to us to hear how small she was and how she needed to come out fast, so we asked a ton of questions to make sure we understood why. My OB was puzzled at our questioning as if she was expecting us to jump up and say "what time''s good for you?". We were hoping to save interventions for later in the delivery process, not to come in and get induced before I even had a chance to try on my own. I know it''s silly but I''m a bit disappointed about that.

But we are truly excited that we finally get to meet her tomorrow, and having a day and a half to tie up loose ends at our jobs and at home is nice.

Tomorrow I''ll be a mommy, it seems so unreal!

Wow, good luck tomorrow, Regalada!! Is 6 lbs super-small for a baby? It doesn''t seem it to me, so that confuses me a little to be honest

But I''m no doctor, so what do I know?

Congrats on your little Leo! -- "Generous and warmhearted, Creative and enthusiastic, Broad-minded and expansive, Faithful and loving"
