Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Indy you look awesome!! But good lord woman, I cannot believe what a difference twins makes to the belly size compared to singletons! I wish I looked that preggo now! But I am also a lot taller than you (5'7") and I am bigger boned, so maybe that makes me show less? My midwife said that women with narrower frames tend to show sooner. I really want a proper baby bump so I feel cute and preggo instead of just larger!
39.gif

Sbde -- thanks! have a good trip!

Snlee -- it sucks you''re still having those contrax, but i suppose at this point they probably won''t go away much. Glad to hear you put a call in to your doc - it''s always good to keep them up to date with what''s going on with you. I can''t wait to see your finished cross-stitch!

TGal -- thanks for the encouragement!

Blen -- thanks! and you''re totally right -- my track record with rude people and my belly is prettyinteresting -- maybe i jst don''t look MEAN enough!
9.gif
Looks like everyone covered your question well -- isn''t it nice to know you have a fetus now?

DD -- i can''t imagine standing for 3 hours straight -- poor you! my belly doesn''t look much different now than in my avatar b/c i''m getting more size on the "bottom" of it, if that makes sense(?) I have a little bit more "bump" below my ribs and then my belly itself hangs dangerously close to my crotch -- guess gravity took its toll!

Lucy -- congats and welcome!!

lili -- thank you! i wonder how someone would react to being "poked" back? haha
3.gif

Indy -- thanks! ice cream sounds reallllllly good right now...
18.gif
What great news -- I can''t wait now for your next u/s!

Kay -- thanks x 2!Isn''t it fun watching the baby move in your belly? DH and I are mezmerized by it all the time -- worth being all stretched out for!
2.gif

Lisa -- welcome to second pregnancies ("showing" sooner!)
2.gif
Hope you''re feeling more at peace with everything today... I remember being more excited around 32-34 weeks with my boys (didn''t really feel "over it" until 36 or 37) -- but i didn''t get this humongous until the end either.... I''ve been "term" size (and beyond) for weeks now, so yeah, the twins thing changes a bunch. That''s what I get for thinking I was an "old pro" when it came to being pg
2.gif

NF and Jackie -- how are you two holding up??

I''m having a less-whiney day today -- you all are so great at making someone *want* to hang in there! But yeah, I seem to have some type of moron-magnet attached to me or something! I had to go to the bank today and go in (I''ve been married for over a year and to date they *still* cannot get my name right on my accounts, so the nesting part of me decided it HAD to be taken care of NOW
3.gif
) -- the first lady was sweet and just made the typical "you look like you are about to pop" type comments that led to a pleasant enough conversation about babies in general, but then when I went up front to make a deposit, a male teller *yells* across the room at me (obviously he was not the teller helping me) -- "how far along are you? I''m about to start dialing the phone (at which point he fake-dials the ambulance/hospital/whatever) and laughing his a$$ off b/c clearly he''s a comedian. Clearly. So I politely smiled and told him I was having twins and it''s hopefully be a while before they come out. Then the teller helping me said that he wants another kid, but he''s scared about having twins (ok, not too uncommon) but after he asks and i tell him they''re girls, he starts telling me what a NIGHTMARE little girls are. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGH!! At this point, btw, the entire group of tellers is gathered around my part of the line like it''s a party (where were the other customers???) The worst of it was walking out of there and them all commenting to each other stupid stuff that I could hear "look how SLOW she''s walking" and "she won''t make it much longer" and my favorite was one i couldn''t completely understand about waddling. How obnoxious! But then I just couldn''t help but laugh when I got to the van -- I think I am winning the stupid-people comments right now
9.gif

Oh and re: staining -- is there a certain point when it''s ever safe during pg or are the fumes always harmful?? They applid "roll-on" at the roller rink last week and the smell was so strong that we all felt sick to our stomach for 2 days over at the ice-rink side (basically it''s a smooth finish that makes the roller rink faster) -- I only teach a few hours at a time, but i was more than concerned about it, but i couldn''t exactly leave, either...

jen
32 weeks 2 days

Indy -- what a great bump!!! You look amazing!

jen

hi everyone and congrats to the newbies! just a few quick shoutouts...
1st, JEN, thanks for posting the new baby. he is SOOO cute. hope he continues to do well! and you look great! i'm sorry you have to deal with all of those crazy people. you have such a good attitude to just laugh!!

SNLEE: LOVE the cross-stitch. it turned out SO well! it will look fabulous in the nursery! regarding the contrax at night...just wondering if they start after you wake up with a full bladder. i've noticed that if i sleep too long and don't go to the bathroom, it will start off a huge run of contractions at times. ineed to force myself to actually get out of bed everytime i wake up and actually use the bathroom, even if i don't have to go very badly...
i'm glad you called the doctor though! keep us posted!

INDY: so sorry to hear about the midwife issue. it's so completely unbelievable. good for you for standing up for yourself and the babies!! GREAT belly shot btw!!

LISA: congrats on the healthy baby, and i'm so sorry to hear about the other one. i know there are a lot of conflicting emotions. i hope you're hanging in there!!

BLEN: cute belly pic. i have a similar one from about 7 weeks where i KNEW something was different (i was totally bloated...for me), but everyone else thought i was crazy!! i think you look great and ic ant' wait to watch it grow.

KAY: i am so jealous of your massage. i could totally use one these days!! maybe my ob will ok one??? :)

DD: GREAT belly pic! you're looking fabulous. it's going to be fun to see it keep growing!! :)

NF, PAVE, SBDE: hope you are all well!!

GEMMA: haven't heard from you in a bit...hope you are doing ok! check in when you get a moment, ok??

and to all the NEWLY PREGGOS: congrats, and welcome to the thread! looking forward to reading all about your adventures. :)

quick update. i had another easy appt with ob. still only dilated to one cm which is fabulous!! i'm def starting to get a bit more uncomfortable, but i guess that's to be expected. i had a talk with my ob about inducted, etc, and she laughed at me, b/c with all the preterm stuff going on, she HIGHLY doubts i'll make it long enough for that to be a consideration, but in any case, she's not going to let me go past 39 weeks. makes me VERY happy!!! she said she wants a big baby, but if he's anything more than like 6.5 lbs, she doesn't think i'll be able to have a vaginal birth b/c of my proportions/size. ok with me!! i'm still hoping to make it to that happy 36-37 wk zone!!

now...to be totally egocentric, i took a bunch of photos today and will proceed to take over the thread by posting them all. :) SNLEE, i think you asked to see some of the more recent knitting adventures on bedrest???

xo, LIA (31 wks, 3 days)

first, for blen, 7 wks preggo and thinking i'm BLOATED!!

7 weeksps.jpg

and now for the 31 wk and 3 day pic.... dh tells me, "it's ok, your support structures NEED to grow to hold up that belly!" as in, i'm huge everywhere. um...NOT funny.
(this is SO scary when i compare it to the old ones!!!)

little baby sweater... i need dh to go to the crafts store so i can get a zipper to attach and finally finish it up...

thanks for indulging me guys...

Indy, you look great! Cute belly!

dreamer, hang in there! Your bump will appear soon enough then you''ll want it to slow down!
2.gif

jen, sorry about your unpleasant bank visit. Sounds awful! I wanted to cry just reading it! You handled yourself very well!

LIA, maybe it is the full bladder that brings the contractions on? I am too tired and annoyed to notice. I just get my butt out of bed, use the bathroom, and try to get comfy and fall back to sleep asap. That has been my routine every night, I''m sure you know it all too well! You look great! Cute belly! I am glad to hear your appointment went well. I''m surprised your dr will induce you so early at 39 weeks. Cute knitted baby stuff! I absolutely love the blanket! It''s gorgeous! You are talented! You are in no way being egocentric. I did ask to see pictures so you can blame me.
9.gif
Thanks for sharing!

Wow, you all make such gorgeous things - Americans must be very creative compared with us lot!

Looking for a bit of advice. I''m getting quite a lot of cramps at the moment. Strong enough to notice and think oooh, that was a little bit sharp, but not achy type cramps. They''re all low down on the right hand side and kind of pulse like a heartbeat would rather than being continuous.

No bleeding or anything.

Is it normal to have cramps early on?

pandora,
it can be TOTALLY normal to have cramping early on. i can't remember how many weeks you are?? and have you had an u/s confirming things yet??
IF the pain is only on one side and get more severe, definitely go in and get checked. othewise, probably just normal stretching of your uterus, especially if you're not bleeding....
i was crampy until about 8-10 weeks. it totally freaked me out!!!

snlee, thanks for the compliments!! it's nice to have something come out of all this bedrest, right?? :)
i know...i was a little suprised about the 39 weeks too. the way she was talking, i guess she first, really doubts i'll make it that far anyway, and second, thinks that even if i do, i will be SO uncomfortable, and probably pretty dilated, that it won't be worth waiting. and it sounds like she wants to try to avoid the c-section with a big baby (not that i'd mind a c-section!!)??? weird... but i know she will only do it if i'm comfortable with it, obviously...

LIA -- first of all -- wow!! Your belly looks GREAT at 31 weeks (of course, you were teeny-tiny to begin with!) and I''m gonna come smack your DH for saying that
2.gif
Secondly, you made such beautiful baby stuff!!!
30.gif
I am blown away by the patience you must have to do a blanket like that (at least with cross-stitch, i get to change it up and do different colors!) -- it''s really gorgeous!

Snlee -- thanks for the sympathy
5.gif
I never really thought of the cladder thing, but that definitely brings em on for me too...

Pandora -- ok, don''t stress! I had lots of pulling down there at the bginnings of ALL of my pregnancies and I know alot of people do. The real question is how much they "hurt" -- if they are tugs, no biggy. If they are painful, like menstrual, dbl check with your doc. It''s also REALLY common to have lots of camping and spotting with a twin pregnancy, just an fyi...

off to attempt to cook....
jen

30.gif

I''m just under 5 weeks.

No chance of a US until about 12 weeks here in the UK.

Definitely only on one side - and doesn''t feel like menstrual cramps at all - much sharper and more tuggy than crampy.

Geez, incredible how much you can start to worry! If they get a lot worse or more frequent I''ll call NHS Direct tomorrow. I''m 4 hours out of London for a Conference for the next 5 days. DH is here too for his work though so that is something.

Jen, please don''t joke - I''m 35+, tall with a maternal line history of fraternal twins.
23.gif

pandora, if the pain is mild and more annoying than anything, then i think you have NOTHING to worry about!
the only concerning thing to me is that it's only on one side (although cramps can do that too)...just PROMISE to get checked if it worsens b/c low unilateral pain in the abdomen can be associated with an ectopic!

jen: thanks!! the blanket took FOREVER and i sometimes had to put it down b/c i was SO SICK of yellow yarn. i would love to try cross-stitch, but i doubt dh would enjoy picking stuff out for me at the crafts store!!
AND i've got enough yarn around the house to last FOREVER. :)

That''s what I''m most worried about.

I''m hoping it''s just stretching - I had similar pain at around 7/8DPO and I''ve told DH that I''m putting money on it being implanted that side.

ok, sooo glad, you had similar pain before...
i didn''t want to scare you with the e-word, but also don''t want it to be missed!
please do keep us posted, ok??

Wow, we got some pretty teeny tiny preggers here.
EricaK, Blenheim, and LIA you all have such cute little bellies.

Indy
Love your perfectly shaped belly.
So tiny for twins too.
Congrats on your twin boys!

DD
Great belly pix.
Don''t worry, you''ll be showing soon.
And once it does, it just keeps growing.
By the third trimester, you''ll be thankful that you are bigger boned and not suffer some of the jabs and pokes that the smaller frame preggers are complaining about :)

LIA
Love love the bunny.
Is that your own creation or did you have an instruction pamphlet?
Either way, you are incredible talented.

Kay
Thanks, that''s a pretty old pix of her, at least w/ respect to her age :)
Hehe, I remember those days when you feel like your belly is already stretched to the limit.
It''s incredible how much more you''ll grow.
That''s great that baby is moving alot.
Isn''t it freaky seeing your LO morphing your belly?
I always get a kick out of it. Ahh....how I missed those belly kicks.

Lisa
Things in PP-ville is okay. Slightly sleep deprived....but definitely energy deprived since my LO doesn''t seem to nap in the afternoon.
Yes, I''m still BFing. I plan on BF until she''s one if my supply is still there. Baby weight? I''m actually happy with the baby weight, but not the baby fat.
Motherhood just seems to make you store more fat than pre-motherhood.

So is Olivia potty trained?

Congrats to the newly preggos -- Lindsey and Mela

Pandora For the first 4 weeks after I was pg I had a lot of pulling type cramps... it felt like there were strings attached to the sides of my uterus and people were pulling on them, sort of a tuggy stretchy feeling. I think that is probably what you are having, and at the stage you are at, wouldn''t it be unusual to already have symptoms if it was ectopic?? I don''t know... Better safe that sorry, so if you are worried tomorrow call the docs, but I think it is the normal early preggo stuff. Welcome to the 12 week wait!
9.gif

Pandora -- too bad you can''t get an earlier u/s to ease your mind, but the chances of everything being ok are better than the chances that they''re not... oh, and i''m sorry if i "scared" you -- but have you SEEN the number of twin pgs on here? It''s really crazy! Just look at it this way -- if you *do* end up with twins, at least there''s a good support group here
2.gif
And on that note, i''ll try not to mention it again!!

KUP on the cramping...

jen

Thank you to everyone who offered me positive stories and support. I spent most of Thursday night crying, Friday moping, and today I feel good again. Well, besides the morning sickness! I''ve lurked on this thread for a long time and never really saw a lot of talk of morning sickness. Is anyone here currently experiencing it, or dealt with it in the past?

I am throwing up several times a day, although usually when my stomach is empty. Last weekend I went to Babies R US for preggie pops and Oh Mama Ginger Ale Elixir. The result? I was just throwing up expensive ginger ale and natural fruit flavorings
2.gif
At this point being worried about my last ultrasound, I''m not griping about my morning sickness the last few days! I''m also not really having cravings so much as I''m having an aversion to all foods except... one or two. I was eating really healthy, tons of fruits and veggies until the morning sickness last weekend -- that threw it all out the window! I went into survival mode and only wanted peanut butter sandwiches for 3 days. Not the best nutrition! Thank goodness last night my body decided the one item it is not against is fruit, whew. So last night and this morning I had a bowl of cut up strawberries, kiwi, bananas, and blueberries. I am not sure how long I''ll be able to eat fruit, so I''m packing it in!
1.gif
Anyone have any good morning sickness strategies?

Hey Pandora I know that in very early pregnancy, any sort of light cramps and pulling sensations are SO common. On my fertilityfriend due date board, around your week it seems like everyone was starting a new thread about those sensations! I had very light cramps every single day from week 4 through 5. Try to relax, it''s very normal!

Okay, all cramps have gone for the time being!
9.gif

I had lunch with a friend of DH''s today and her 1 and 6 year old. She had an ectopic about 3 years ago and nearly died.

She had what seemed like a 2 week long period, and a + HPT, so she went to see her GP who said to come back in two weeks if she hadn''t stopped bleeding (no exam or anything), two weeks on when she still hadn''t stopped bleeding and had very bad cramps they did a US and bloodtests and said there was nothing in the uterus and it must have been an m/c. She was going to Portugal on holiday for two weeks the next day and they told her that was fine. Luckily nothing happened till the day she got back to the UK when her tube ruptured and she had to have emergency surgery. Scary stuff!

Anyway, she put my mind totally at rest and we had a really good chat about pregnancy and baby stuff which was nice.

I''ve started feeling icky today - joy! Although I kind of like having some symptoms because at least you know things are progressing. I''ll be so happy once I''ve had the first US and know it''s all there and hopefully just the one!
9.gif

(I''m sure I would learn to cope if it was twins but I would be pretty frightened!)

Lindsey I meant to respond to your post and forgot, I'm so sorry! I have a strong feeling everything will be okay. I have read so many stories on other pergnancy board about people who got an early u/s and were given the information you received and it turned out to be fine a week later. Of course, in some cases it was bad news, but I think equally as many or more turn out fine! I am amazed at the variation in the measurements. As Indy mentioned, her identical* twins measured about a week different for many week early on. Myself, when I went for my 12 week u/s they had my baby measuring a week ahead, and I was charting so I think this is highly unlikely. Anyways, I am truly hopeful for you bean and the m/s is a very good sign.

ETA I looked up research on the error rates with early gestational age measurements using the CRL (crown to rump length) and it is plus or minus 4 to 6 days! This is one reason I am sort of against having early u/s, there is too much error, nothing you can do anyways if something is wrong, and all you do is worry!!

There have been a number of women here who had serious m/s... Ivanadiamond is having it now, SBDE had it for a long time in her pregnancy, and DIvaDiamond (who's a mommy now) did too. I know the latter two women both went to their docs and got medication for it. There are safe meds now so if you are finding that the m/s is really affecting your quality of life or is affecting your nutrition then you do't have to suffer! When I was researching something else I came accross this website which you may really find useful: Mother Risk. The Motherisk Program at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is a clinical, research and teaching program dedicated to a number of things, including tratment and research about morning sickness! This is the top teaching and research hospital in canada, so it is a very reputable course. Anyways, there is tonnes of information on their site, and also a forum all about treating what they call NVP (nausea and vomiting of pregnancy), which is likned a t the top of the page I provided above. It is realy useful and interesting, so check it out!

Lindsay

What you've got sounds like bad morning sickness for sure, which IS a really good thing! There is lots of research out there suggesting that women who get bad m/s are likely to NOT have a m/c (the opposite doesn't apply, so for those of you lurkers who are worried that you DON'T have m/s, it doesn't work that way, so don't worry!). But really, in all seriousness, m/s is a really good thing.

I had it bad too, and what helped me was:

1. NEVER let your stomach get empty! Leave some plain crackers by your bed and before you even get vertical in the morning put something in your stomach. Eat really small meals throughout the day, no matter what it is, if it sounds good, eat it because it's better to have something in your stomach than nothing. They believe that m/s is a blood sugar issue, so if there is nothing in your tummy, i.e., your blood sugar is really low, like when you wake up, it gets worse. So head it off at the pass by always having a small snack with you and making sure your tummy is never totally empty.

2. Fruit was also my savior. Watermelon in particular. And really, don't worry so much about nutrition right now. Just focus on feeling good and eating what you can. My doctor likes to say that even if all you can eat is ice cream for the first 12 weeks, your babe likely would be JUST FINE. Nature wouldn't give you food aversions and symptoms that your body can't handle ya know?

3. Food aversions are totally normal. As for cravings some women have them, some don't. So don't worry, it isn't a sign of anything!

Hope that helps!

lindsey...

as DD mentioned, i had a pretty bad case of m/s until about 15 wks. i ended up having to take zofran everyday just to be able to eat something and get through the day. things that i found helped - taking small sips of sprite throughout the day (would take it with me wherever i went, especially in the car) and eating whatever i felt like eating at the time. fresh fruit, esp watermelon as NF mentioned also helped.

i would definitely recommend looking into medicine. it was a lifesaver for me...i would have 1/2 a tablet of zofran a day and would try to time it so that i wouldn't have to take more than that each day (it's efficacy lasted about 8 hrs so i'd wait to take it at noonish and would try to sleep around 9 ish when the nausea came back)

just remember, this will pass too!! take it one day at a time!!

Hey ladies! It''s been a while since I posted but I just wanted to say hi and say congrats to the newly pregnant friends here and let those getting close to their due date that I''m sending good vibrations to you all for healthy babies and easy L&D! I also wanted to thank those of you who''ve posted pics of your beautiful bellies - you look great!

Jas, your twin boys are adorable and you look amazing! Congrats!

All''s well with me though I have an awful cold which has me sneezing like crazy and my throat very sore. I hope it goes away soon! I''m 13 Weeks and 1 day today and I''ve had a very easy pregnancy so far. No m/s at all (
I''m so sorry some of you (lindsay) have been suffering from m/s! I hope you feel better soon!) I think I''ve gained about 3 lbs and my clothes aren''t fitting well but I got one of those belly bands which has helped a bunch.

I hope you''re all enjoying the weekend.

Mrs

Is there anyone that has any ideas of things to do from home to make money while on maternity leave? I heard about a company where you work as a phone representative for stores such as Banana Republic, Toys r Us. I can''t think of the name of it right now but I know it''s totally legit.

Also my husband mentioned something about his sister using AFLAC when she was out. I have to talk to her about it more. However he mentioned something about her getting checks from them.

Pandora, When I was pregnant with my DD I had cramps (and sometimes spotting) till 9 weeks. It did stress me out. But I was also able to get a US 6 weeks for some reason. I''m surprised you can''t get one till 12 weeks over there. Here if your going to be having the baby at 35 or over you start getting screening early for birth defects. I think I got the down syndrome US combination blood test at 11 weeks.

Sass,

My aunt was on bed rest for part of her pregnancy and had to take time off work and needed to have income coming in still since my uncle didn''t make enough for them to live off alone.

She made baby blankets and sold them at consignment shops, that way it was something she could do at home, while she was stuck in the house all day.

She also helped a neighbor kid of hers who was struggling in math. She would come over to her house and they''d review. It wasn''t as much as she would have made if she could have stayed at work throughout the pregnancy, but it made things managable.
