I believe it''s about half actually. For my type of twins the rate is a bit higher since they have fewer risks and are more likely to make it past 34 weeks which is the age at which they''ll usually allow you to try for a VB.

Basically it really depends on the position of Twin A. If Twin A is anything other than head down, it''s game over. Pretty much no doctor will touch a breech delivery if Twin A is breech. If Twin A is head down, then most OB''s will allow you to try for a VB for both. There is about a 5% risk of having to have a section for Twin B in that case, but for the most part Twin B will use the extra room to move head down or they can be manipulated head down. Or, doctors are fairly comfortable with a breech birth for Baby B.
Those are really good odds! I would have guessed lower, but that is really good to know!

Okay, freak, now my hoochie hurts! I''m not sure if I''d pray for baby A to be head down or not.
I finally talked to my friend last night about her birth, and she said this "I will say that birth really messes with your vagina.... it stretched from my belly button to my bum after the birth!"

LOL! She said it basically went back to normal after 2-4 weeks, but that image is really funny too me. DH looked really distraught when I told him that story

Very happy to report ANOTHER negative ffn test! Yay!!!! Gives me some peace of mind at least!

Ha, ditto!

Basically it''s a swab that tests for the presence of a protein that your body secretes a few weeks before you go into labor. So if you get a negative, it''s about 99% sure that you won''t go into labor in the next few weeks (barring an emergency of some sort of course). If you get a positive it doesn''t mean that you will go into labor, but it means you have a higher chance of going into labor. So a negative is very predictive, but a positive isn''t nearly AS predictive.

We''ve all gotten familiar with them here due to myself, Snlee, Indy, etc. having these tests, but normally it''s not something they give you unless they think you might be at risk of PTL.

NF, that''s great news!

Indy, you and the cubs are in my thoughts.

Pregnant PS''ers,
Sorry I don''t have time to write to all of you individually but know that I am here rooting you ladies on and hoping your pregnancies are going well!

Oooh, that''s good! Let them bake bake bake, and then when you are good and ready, YOU can bake to get them out!

NF -- so glad to hear you had a neg ffn test!

Pave -- congrats on a good u/s!

Indy -- you and the cubs are constantly in my thoughts... glad to hear the good news about your mom and your book cover -- praying for more good news!

Can''t get to everyone today -- Sophie''s hungray -- but I wanted to tell you something inteesting and bizarre we found out today. I went to see my doc to get my staples out (i had a small bleed that kept us from getting them out at the hospital) and he told me they got the pathology report. I really never thought about it once we saw them and all of their differences... well, turns out that my babies are mono-di''s, not di-di''s after all. For the non twin mommas here, that means my girls shared a placenta! That means that all along I was having a higher risk pregnancy than we knew
23.gif
and now, since they are ok and I don''t have to stress about that part anymore -- it means they are identicals! Have you all seen the pics?? Right off the bat I can name 4 obvious differences (hair color, noses, lips and feet) -- can this really be possible? They *do* have the same blood type, but I think I need to get the DNA test to back this info up. Could the hospital possibly be wrong?
can''t wait to read your opinions on this....

Weird!!! I have heard that the only way to be sure if they are in different sacs is to have the DNA test and that sometimes analyzing the placenta is an art not a science and is sometimes inaccurate...but I''m not sure what I heard this in reference to.

Regardless I am so glad they are here and safe! But I would be interested in hearing the outcome of this!

WILD Jen!! I think the "art versus science" thing makes sense because they would have to be analyzing the blodd vessels etc. and I imagine that could be hard. So glad it was all a-okay!! Will you do a DNA test? I am so curious!

I also didn''t think they looked identical, but maybe as they age it will be more obvious??

I''ve heard this too. My cousins are fraternal and I remember my aunt explaining that placentas can merge making it seem like fraternal twins are identical, so the DNA test is the only way to know for sure.

Wow Jen, if that's true, then you doctors were GROSSLY negligent. Seriously, every maternal-fetal medicine textbook and article on twins I have seen (and believe me, girly-o, I been doing some READING) says that determining chorionicity is a first and CRITICAL step to the management of a twin pregnancy.

I've heard of lots of cases where fused placentas and squished together sacs make it look like they are mono-chorionic when they are actually di/di. But the idea that they were mono and your doctors completely missed that and though they were di? I mean, that's hard to miss if you actually are LOOKING for it.

Thank heavens your girls are safe! But what if they had got TTTS? Or one of the other mono/di issues that are sometimes treatable when caught early? Only from lack of monitoring, you had lost them unnecessarily?

This makes me mad! Get that DNA test! And if they are ID and were mono, be seriously angry at your OB! That is just not acceptable.

NF, sooooo happy to hear about your -fFN! That brings you basically into the safe zone, right? Two more weeks after that would be even better. I'm crossing my fingers for you. Hurray.

Well, this morning my grandmother passed away. She was 87 (I think?) and had cancer, and we knew it wouldn't be too much longer. Plus, I think she was ready. But the timing couldn't be worse. I sure as heck can't travel (I'm 100% effaced, 2cm dilated, and contracting strongly). My mom is two days out from her chemo treatment and totally immune compromised so she can't travel. My step-dad has to go alone to meet up with my brothers, and let me tell you, none of these men are particularly good at coping with these kinds of situations. So, they're missing their support people and mom's missing her support people. Just watch me go into labor again the day of her funeral. Well, if that happens, I think I just won't tell my parents until the next day so they can deal with what's immediately in front of them. What a situation!
17.gif

Our family has really taken a beating this year! But we soldier on! And we have a lot of love between us to keep us all glued together through the tough times.

whoa Indy. This is all such a sh!tstorm. When it rains in pours.
38.gif
I''m so sorry about your Gma''s passing...and the icky situation you''re all in. I''m really holding out that you DON''T go into labour and that you and your family at least get that one small miracle(s). Deepest condolences Ind.

Jen - That is NUTS! I never would have considered them ID''s just looking at them...so I''m interested in the results too. Thank GOD they are safe and sound and healthy and beautiful regardless. I''ve always meant to ask you, and kept forgetting....Remember a while back, you mentioned that you thought that you Ovulated twice (a day apart). What made you suspect the dual ovulation? I''m just curious...after being so entrenched in the TTC world.

Off to be a florist! Big parties today

. Your poor family has been through so much recently.

After posting about how I was just going to try to do my best with eating, but not really worry about it since I have a tendency to become obsessed with tracking things, I realized that I probably have a skewed view on what is enough since the only time I was ever tracking was when I was trying to lose. I decided to track for at least a little using babyfit.com until I have a better feel for how much and what I should be eating. Yesterday was the first day and, apparently I''m not eating anywhere near enough. Yesterday totaled 1232 calories and it has my range at 1920 - 2220
23.gif
. I''m pretty shocked that it was so low and wondering if maybe something was off on the foods I entered. I mean, that''s the amount I was eating when I was trying to lose weight and I feel like I''ve been eating a ton more. I''m eating when I''m hungry: breakfast, 10am snack, lunch and dinner. I brought something in so I can have an afternoon snack today and brought twice as much for lunch, but holey cow, according to this thing I need to be eating almost double what I am! Granted, not every day is like yesterday (had a ton of fast food on Monday and Tuesday for my business trip), but it still kind of freaked me out. I don''t want to have to have a big mac every day for lunch to up the number, since I''m sure that can''t be healthy either.

Should I listen to my body and keep eating when I''m hungry or do I need to actively try to up my calories (with healthy foods obviously)? I guess I just kind of always thought that my body would let me know when I''m not getting enough.

Robbie - I''m no expert, but my philosophy on food and nutrition has always been to listen to my body. Like, for example, I went through a phase when I was DEEPLY craving lentils. I think my body was probably protein deficient. (??) Just a hunch, and once i saddled up with the lentils for a couple days, I felt AMAZING. I think the key is to be mindful of the "quality" of the food rather than the "quantity", and just go with the flow. Some days you may be ravenous; others you may pick like a bird. Eat when you''re hungry and try your best not to worry about your changing shape - It''s part of the whole process and (IMO) so magical!

My best desision was only to get weighed at the doctors office. That way, I''m not obsessing over the pounds (as you''ll see many will be gained in breast tissue alone) and instead I''m focusing on how "well" I feel.

I hope this helps. What a journey you''re body is on

You need to listen to your body but at the same time if you know that you''ve had issues with eating before, you need to monitor what you are eating to get you up to 2,000 calories a day or so. Is seeing a nutritionist an option? They might be able to give you some good tips. 1200 is just too low for someone preggo and is even at the very low end for someone not preggo!

But you don''t have to eat big macs everyday to up your calories. Think things like nuts, protein shakes if necessary, switch to fuller fat dairy, add some more heart healthy oils/spreads (nut butters, olive oil, etc.) and you can up your calories fairly quickly.

Robbie I have slightly different advice than Mela... when a woman has dealt with diet body issues for a long time, she actually gets really out of touch with her body and her hunger signs. If you are used to resticting your intake a little, like mnay many women, then you are used to a slight "hunger pang" feeling. If you have been getting by on so little calories (and BTW, 1200 is considered the ABSOLUTE minimum level of calories required to get enough nutrients to be healthy, it is the starvation level for most woman), then you body''s metabolism may be slowed down. I have been a calorie counter as well, since in the past I lost about 30 lbs (needed, healthy loss), and I know that 1200 calories is NOT a lot of food at all. So if it feels like it was a lot, like you are really mowing down to eat that much food, then as I am suggesting, your ideas about quantities may be a *little* wonky.

Now when you are not PG this doesn''t all really matter... our bodies adjust to many different things! And many women have a habit of eating sparingly during the week and then making up calories on the weekend (I am one of those! haha). But when we are PG it is really really important to get enough nutrition all the time, spread out. In the first tri, the baby doesn''t need much and will get what it needs no matter what... but poor nutrition could get to be more of a problem in the second tri or third. Maybe your body will start seding stronger hunger signs? Who knows! But for me, if this was something I became aware of in the first tri, I would start keeping a food diary for a week or so to get a feel for how much and what types of foods I had eaten. The pattern over the course of days is more important than the pattern over the course of hours. I wouldn''t worry about weight gain at this point, don''t weigh yourself if you don''t want to, but think about good healthy nutrition. Below is a guide in terms of servings that I have seen a few places (gov''t sponsered and not). It is just a guide, but it is an easy way to know you are getting enough nutrients. In your shoes I would also be tempted to see a nutritionist for a couple sessions to get a feel for the quality of my diet--this is useful not just when pg but all the time. They will have you keep a food diary, so that is a good excercise no matter what.

I am not saying any of this to be sensational at all, or to create worry. But as women we are trained to be unhealthy in our eating habits: eaither too much fast food or not enough food etc etc. Eating well when PG is so important that it is worth trying to establish great habits at that time. I think if this is something that is weighing on your mind a little, its better to sort ot out than ignore it.

This nutritional guide is more based on the second tri forward, you would eat a little less in the first tri. It is also for the "avergae sized woman" you''d need less if you are smaller and more if you are bigger:

Dairy: 4 servings per day
1 cup milk, yogurt, sour cream
1/4 cup cottage cheeses
1 large slice cheese
1 cup icea cream (
18.gif
)

Protein:
Meat... 6-8oz. per day
OR
Vegetarian options...6-7 servings per day
1/4 cup peanuts peanut butter
beans 1/4 cup + rice 1/4 cup (this combo creates a complete protein)
rice 1/2 cup + milk 2/3 cup (not mixed together, haha)
OR
Dairy as protein: Consider it only if it is in addition to your 4 servings of dairy

Fresh green dark veggies: at least once per day

Whole grains: 4-5 servings per day
slice of bread
1/2 bagel/pancake, waffle, muffin
1/2 cup granola or noodles

Vitimin C foods: one or two servings a day
1/2 grapefruit or orange
a large tomoato or tomoato juice
1/2 cup strawberries

Great suggesttions NF. I was going to add that I have become a grazer... I eat nuts, yogurt cups, cottage cheese cups, fruit more often through the day.

Me too. We have lots of single serving grab and go type things (bananas/apples w/ peanut butter, single serving bags of almonds, yogurt and granola, etc.) that are really easy to throw in your bag in the morning and pretty satisfying snacks.
