Chicco Keyfit Question

I decided to go with the keyfit after the great reviews it received on here by the PS mommies. I''m on BRU and Target and only see 4 styles. I''m wondering if in stores there would be different styles to choose from.

Also, I''m reading reviews online that the sunshade is pretty much useless which may be a problem for us since we''re in FL. Any thoughts?

I know Amazon has a few, but Chicco certainly don''t have as many colors as say Graco does. I don''t think the sunshade is bad personally...they all are pretty crappy IMO, I don''t know of a seat with a better one.

Ooh, ooh- SPILL! Spill!

Definitely not as many colors to choose from, but I actually like the more muted styles vs. PRINTSPRINTSPRINTS! Seeing as everything else baby-related seems to be loud and printy.

Here are all the color choices:

Chicco Keyfit 30

(We'll probably go with the Romantic or the Adventure.)

Any last minute guesses before I spill?
I''m guessing BOY

Xanthe is pronounced Zan-thh-ee - it''s Ancient Greek, I think she was an Amazon, and means ''bright'' or ''yellow'' (my favourite colour). DH wonders if Daisy Pandora is grown-up enough sounding...
At the moment we have no plans to have another one - DH doesn''t want me to EVER be pregnant again, and I must admit I haven''t enjoyed it at all.

I don''t have any worries about her being an only child as we live in London so there are lots of opportunities for her to socialise and not be isolated. On the other hand, I feel that an only child might feel more responsible towards their parents and so limit their life choices (I''m one of four and so had no qualms about swanning off abroad for 8 years, and don''t feel bad if I''m at home every Christmas). Or that something tragic could happen - not that a child can ever be replaced, but if you have more than one, the normal events tend to carry on and that would perhaps be less painful than watching your peers have these experiences and knowing what might have been (not that anything is ever a guarantee).

If we do have a second it won''t be for 5 years at least (and knowing my luck it would be triplets or something!)

Pandores. I am suffering the EXACT same middle name ailment. I don''t want to say goodbye to our "second" favourite middle names either. For us, it''s Lavender (Girl) and, Phoenix (Boy). I know intellectually that 3 names may dilute the specialness of the other two together (IMO) and that it is one more name for them to be made fun of (or so my good girlfriends tell me
27.gif
)...but alas....the heart loves what the heart loves. I say throw Xanthe in ONLY if you truly cannot say good bye to it.

Also, to avoid the rhyming nature of Daisy Xanthe, can you swap the order? Daisy Pandora Xanthe _____________ ? I like the sound of that better I think.

Naming is an excersize in restraint. It''s tough and I''m struggling too.

Very difficult.

PS. going to the middie today! YEY!

Thanks ladies! I figured the sunshade may not be that big of a deal. I was going to register for one online but decided to go in the store and check it out first.

China-Update! Update! Update!

Sorry, I was off searching for cribs and bedding for the first time. WOW is that overwhelming!

AND, we are having a...................BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cute story, actually. The technician gave us the envelope, which I assumed she had just written "boy" or "girl" on a piece of paper. Nope, it was an actual ultrasound picture and she typed inside the frame: "He''s a boy!!!".

With ARROWS pointing to his little man package. It''s hysterical. You can totally see exactly what it is. The poor kid is going to be so embarrassed some day, but it''s too cute and I am definitely putting it into some sort of album.

I was pretty sure we were having a boy, but wow, it makes it so much more real to me now. Though I could have easily waited, and I still think having a surprise is awesome. I''m glad I know, BUT there is that twinge moment, because now I don''t get a little girl as well. I want both! But DH is so excited, can''t stop talking about Little League. The other day he just looked at me with a goofy grin and said "I can''t wait for our baby and our house!"

Pandora- Ok, well I love the sound and the meaning of Xanthe. But I agree with Mela, how about Daisy Pandora Xanthe _________ ???? I just love the way Daisy Pandora sounds next to each other.

Yay for a boy!
9.gif

That was so nice of the tech - and yes he''s going to be thrilled when you show the baby book to his first girlfriends...
31.gif

natalina- I''m so glad you got to hear the heartbeat. It''s a wonderful sound, isn''t it?

ChinaCat- Congratulations on your baby BOY! Another for team blue!

I agree with mela- I think I like the sound of the two swapped better. And if you think she''ll be your only, you should use it if you think you''ll regret not later on.

China, for no reason, I got weapy reading your post. CONGRATS!! I guess the part when your DH said "I can''t wait for our baby and our house". That got me verklempt.

Major congrats!!

I know how you must feel, that twinge, for not being a girl. I too really really want a girl, and I anticipate the "twinge" myself if I end up with a boy.

Can I just say though, from my experience, it''s WAY easier to make decisions when you know the sex. Part of me wishes I had found out because by not knowing, I have accumulated a big fat NUTHING in the way of baby things.
20.gif
Always comes back to shopping, eh? Shopping, Diamonds, and Food. lol.

Now....any names being thrown around?
31.gif
While we''re on the topic of names.

China- YAY!!! For a boy!!!! How sweet of the tech! I''m really excited for you!

Are we having a boy boom around here? Other than Fiery, who knows they are having a baby girl? Mrs, I think? Any others? Oooh, Lindsay...hmmm....who else?

Pandora- I was actually thinking the SAME thing as Mela re: Daisy Pandora Xanthe ______. I think that order sounds great, but Daisy Xanthe is a bit too zzzzzz zzzzz to me. I really like Xanthe, though. Is it a popular name in the UK? I''ve never heard it before.

Mela- I was reading the new InStyle article on Sandra Bullock the other day and thought of you because she mentions that her husband has a tattoo in honor of his beloved grandmother, Vesta Lula James, and I thought "ooohhh- that sounds like a Mela name!"
41.gif

Ebree- are you guys sharing your name ideas for your beautiful boy? I don''t remember seeing any...

China - congrats on BOY!!! Wow it's a boy boom around here!!!!!

I felt the same way when i found out i was having a boy. I REALLY wanted a girl for my first, and still do. I'm glad I found out because it's given me time to get used the boy thing. I know it sounds bad, because i am beyond THRILLED to have either, but if i'm being honest I just always pictured my first to be a girl. So having a boy is taking some getting used to. But, now that i've pretty much 'known' since week 9 (just had a strong feeling) I'm really excited to see what my little man is going to be!!! hehehe......and my DH was sooooooooooooo much more into the pregnancy once we got confirmation on Boy!! he's so happy to be having a son.

Pandora - I think you should use all 3, especially if u think this is it for you guys. And I like it Daisy Pandora Xanthe as well!!!

Blen - I love your name choices! I really don't think you can go wrong w/ any of them.

Natalina - congrats on hearing the HB!!!
36.gif

We still are no where near coming up w/ a name.....it's so frustrating! We just dont' see to LOVE anything. I didn't think it was going to be this hard!!!

China, mela, and cdt- If you're like me and want one of each sex, having a boy first is fabulous for a lot of reasons! In my extended family, two sets of aunts and uncles had boys first (daughters following) and the siblings are so close. The big brothers are so protective of their little sisters, even in adulthood. My husband is the eldest with a younger sister, and they also get along beautifully and always have, according to my in-laws. If I could have chosen which order to have them in, I'd have picked boy first, then girl.

(Not to say that the other way around doesn't also have its plusses, I'm just talking about our situations!)

It suuuuuuuuuure is. And I suuuuuuuuuuuure like it!

Ebree - In my family it''s the opposite (mostly girls first, then boy). And i''m the oldest and have a brother 2 years younger and my sister is 10 years younger (parents took a break). So i think that''s why I wanted a girl first...but in the end it doesn''t matter! Just a healthy baby

We''re not monogramming anything just yet, but we''re probably going with Henry. How about you?

Ebree - I LOVE Henry!!!!!!!!! DH nixed it though...but it''s such a cute name!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

Ohh, so cute! That''s my grandpa''s name! I love it! As for us, we cannot agree on anything. Plus, I really think (hope) we''re having a boy and DH really thinks it will be a girl, so we''re all confused! I have always thought I would have a boy first. I think because I had an older brother and loved it. The reasons you listed to be excited about a boy first are totally true for me, and I''m afraid I might be just a *bit* disappointed if we have a girl first. I know a healthy baby is most important, but I love that its okay to say if you have a preference with you guys! It seems its not so accepted to admit that IRL, don''t you think?

natalina - I think so!! In the beginning (before we officially knew boy) i was really vocal about my preference of girl and how disappointed I''d be if it was a boy and everyone acted like I had 2 heads!!!! Like I was this weird, awful person for feeling that way. But I was just being honest! But I found this website awhile back all about gender disappointment in pregnancy, so I realized I''m normal
3.gif
There were LOTS of woman on this site that really struggled one way or the other w/ what they were having.

Ebree - Love Henry! Good one!
36.gif

Natalina - I agree. Somehow, here, it''s okay to be honest about our wants. But not IRL. I grew up with an older brother, and we never got along (he never got over having a younger sib taking the attention away) and I always dreamed of a sister. I think that''s why I want a girl so badly, because I didn''t have a close relationship with my brother. (still don''t).

I''ll be honest, I want 3 kids, and I''d be okay with 3 girls. lol.

Now that I''ve said that, I''ll have 3 boys as punishment. haha.
11.gif

cdt, natalina, mela- Thank you! It's been one of my favorites for a long time. DH and I agreed on it so quickly, it was amazing. Boy names were so much easier for us than girl names, which is another plus to us having a boy first- more time to stew on girl names!

You say this now, but just wait until their pre-teen/teenage years.
11.gif
My best girlfriend growing up had two older sisters and one younger, and they were all two years apart. You wouldn't BELIEVE the daily fights that broke out. They'd literally hit, kick, and throw things at each other, screaming at the tops of their lungs, cursing, spitting, and shutting doors in each other's faces. I hate to admit that as an only child, I kind of enjoyed it- there was never that much activity at my house- but I would have hated to be in the middle of it all. Oh man, was it chaos.
32.gif

As bad as this is to admit...my brother and I were the same way as 2 or 3 girls!!!!! We fought a LOT and i do mean fight...made me tough i guess
20.gif

Girls get such a bad wrap...all boys can be just as bad and so can a girl/boy combo
9.gif

ETA - just wanted to clarify that once my brother hit puberty he no longer hit me...he may have thrown a shoe or 2 my way though. Didn't want you to think my brother was beating me or anything!!! But when we were little kids, there was a lot of wrestling, biting and yelling! we were brats!!!

Thanks everyone! I have to say, I really thought I'd want to wait, but it's been really fun finding out. Oh, and I should say that I didn't really have a preference for boy or girl. I actually think boy is better for me first, and I totally agree about wanting a boy and then a girl. It's just that twinge that I would have had either way- either I don't get a boy or I don't get a girl, and either way would make me a bit sad. That's why boy/girl twins are so awesome! I didn't realize I felt this way, but being a daughter and a sister, I just cannot imagine not having one. BUT I am so excited for a boy. We have a boy dog (silly I know) but he has totally won me over to team boy.

Mela- Aww, your hormones are kicking in, but it was a pretty cute moment. It's so fun to see the guys get all excited. And yes, now I finally feel like I can buy stuff! It does make it a bit easier.

Names- No idea. We tossed names around before we knew, but now it just feels like a much bigger commitment and responsibility. Like we liked some names that are "cool" but when you actually get down to naming a kid, they just feel a bit too much.

Right now, some names we both like: Oliver, Luke, Liam, Ronan, Dashiell (call him Dash). Can't think of anymore off the top of my head. I kind of want something unique, but it's harder with a boy. Yes I know those names aren't very unique!!! No one has my name- except Mela, actually- and I kind of like having an unusual name. But with a boy it's harder.

I love the name Lula!!!!! I have a friend and one of her name options was "Louisa" which I just love, but would call her "Lula". Too cute!!!!

Fiery, I will work on pics for you, I promise.

It seems like we are having a BOY boom, but actually it's pretty even since we had a girl boom.

I like all of these! If you want more unique, using Ronan or Dashiell is definitely the way to go. I rarely hear Dashiell used, but someone on another message board just chose that for her son, and I really like it. It's got a regal sound to it, but not in the snooty way, if that makes sense.

ETA: I'm in the boy list, too! Don't forget about lil' ol' me.

Oh China, by saying that you just made my day! HAHA.

Maybe because we have the same name IRL, we appreciate being the only one with that name, and therefore want a unique name for our kids. Did you see my babyname list? You may like some from there?! I posted it not too long ago...

Our top girl name is Luna (similar to Lula!).
3.gif

Unique boys names are hard. I agree. I love Dashiell ETA: and Ronan too!

Off to the middies! See you soon.

Ebree- Sorry I forgot you! I don''t know how I did that, you were on the list that I wrote down. Blame it on preggo brain!!!!

Btw, if I forgot anyone else, sorry- I just took a quick peek at the Preggos in Waiting list, so I could be missing some peeps.

Mela- I will go back and look at your names.

We love Ronan, but we have a close friend that has a Ronan. He''s almost 2, but still seems a bit too unusual too steal. I love Dashiell, but not sure if DH is on board or not. I have some time to work on him.
11.gif
He loves Oliver, which I have to say is really growing on me. I know it''s super popular in the UK, but I really don''t know any over here.

Ok, off to the inspection on the house we have under contract.

Let''s hope all goes well.
