Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Hi Ladies

Hope everyone has a great Friday.

There’s nothing new over here. I am feeling her move a lot. I’ve been feeling the kicks for a while but to feel her moving around is pretty neat. I don’t know if she has a pattern yet. I think the doctor will want me to start doing kick counts around 28 weeks. We’re going to look for some furniture tomorrow so we can start clearing out the second bedroom. Oh I got a fisher price swing from my coworker. We’re going to put it together to see what kind of condition it’s in. We have no room in our home for a swing (and this one is huge) so if it’s worth it, we’ll give it to his parents for their house.

Mela-You look wonderful!
Blen-I can notice a difference!

Here’s my BPF contribution! ETA: 26w4d

Mela, Fiery- Great pics! WHY can''t I ever remember it''s BPF???? I seriously have a brain lapse. I had every intention of having DH take one today, since he is off from work and had time. Totally forgot. Of course, it may have had something to do with the fact that our freaking A/C is broken and it''s like 80 inside my place and I was sweating after having to dry my hair, and then it took me 45 minutes to find a shirt that fit. No joke, everyday less and less fits. I almost lost it. I am definitely going shopping this weekend for ugly fat clothes.

Blen- Thank you for posting the post-partum pics!!!! That is one thing I am so curious about- and I can totally see a difference. How are you feeling???? I am still in awe of your story. I thought I had it in me to try natural (not brave enough to do home birth) but I don''t know that I could have stuck it out like you did. Crazy.

Lysser- Hey there. Are you feeling kicks yet? I have JUST started to feel little punch flutters, feels like another heart beating but it''s not consistent so I think it''s baby kung fu. I was worried I hadn''t felt them yet (almost 23 weeks) but I have an anteriour placenta. Yay on your test being good!!!! We close on our house May 1st, but don''t move until June 1st (we gave them a lease-back). So I still have some time. Thanks for asking!!!!

Dreamer was in my dream last night!!!! I moved into this crazy apartment building and apparently I had a sugar daddy cause I was trying to get away from him and went up to DD''s apartment- she lived right upstairs. But we had never met before, I just knew she lived there, so I came up to see Hunter. He was really cute and already speaking in full sentences, btw, at 2 weeks. He kept saying "Well, what do you think about that?" and snapping his fingers!
2.gif
DD wasn''t very friendly and kept looking at me strangely, but I think it''s because I realized after I returned to my apartment that I never told her who I was! Obviously we''ve never met, but I didn''t say "Hey, it''s ChinaCat from PS", I guess I just was some random stranger cooing at your baby! But I did notice that DD had stacks and stacks of our thread printed out around her room, so I could see preggo board conversations. Pretty funny.

Vizla- I think it''s so much better to be honest about all of these crazy emotions. I hate the pressure we have as women (whether placed on ourselves or by society or other women) to be perfect and to think that every minute of pregnancy is wonderful. It''s a huge change, mentally and physically, and it takes some mental adjustment. It helps to know that we are "normal" for feeling both good and bad things about this time. I really think talking about it and getting it out is so much healthier, and hopefully reduces chances of depression, especially post-partum. This girl at work the other day told me I was "weird" because I told her I didn''t like BRU. She didn''t say it meanly, just sort of confused as to why I didn''t go all gooey over baby stuff.

Mela/ fiery- looking good as always!

Blen- can see a total difference, I have a feeling u will be back to ur pre preggo body in no time!

My pics will be up in a few ;)

LOLOL! That is too funny! Obviously you think I am the crazy lady who lives upstairs, no husband and sitting around with tonnes of our thread printed out! And that is too funny about Hunter. We think he is a genius already, so talking at 2 weeks seems totally possible

Blen Your tummy looks great! I feel like I never really had that "5 months preggo" look. Right after I gave birth is just deflated. But then, I didn''t look 5 months preggo at 5 months preggo, so maybe I DID look the same as I actually looked at 5 months! haha

Sunkist,

Thinking of you today at your first appointment! Hope it goes wonderfully and you get a peek at baby!!

Happy Easter, everyone. It''s a wonderful celebration!

In our infant care class last weekend, we were taught those ''Happiest Baby on the Block'' 5 ways to stop a baby from crying and it seems like it works like a charm. Found a video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDvXhu_IaQk&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDvXhu_IaQk&feature=related

I''m reading ''Happiest Baby'' right now. Although I love the 5 S''s...and think they are great tools to have, I recommend that everyone reads THE OPPOSITE theory to ''Happiest Baby'', which basically says that there is no such thing as the ''Fourth Trimester'' (as stated in ''Happiest Baby''), and that babies are okay to start training from day 1.

''On becoming Baby Wise'' by Gary Ezzo & Robert Bucknam

***

I don''t subscribe to EITHER one exclusively, but I think it''s important to be aware of both methods. Each baby is different, and one method exclusively may not work for your baby.

For example, my BFF just had a baby 4 months ago. She found the 5 S''s really helped her calm her baby when it got into uncontrollable FITS, but overall, her baby responded really well to being on a schedule. In fact, she said that she wished that she had started the self-calming earlier; and she wished that she hadn''t have respond to every little cry with the 5 S''s because her baby actually developed a bad habit of not being able to put herself to sleep. They are now 1/2 way through breaking the ''bad habits'', and the baby is MUCH happier now. Everyone is happier now! LOL.
Good point Mela. I liked Happiest Baby because it gave me some ammo, but I also read Healthy Sleep Habits and I also believe there are some things you can do from day one to set the foundation.

34 weeks....

Big ditto.

And I want to add that A LOT will depend on the temperament of your baby. Hunter has been putting himself to sleep since he was 4 weeks old, when we started using the baby whisperer methods. At the start we would have to sooth him a lot and do lots of pick up put downs, but now we put him in his crib when he is sleepy and he puts himself to sleep. BUT he is a very even tempered baby and actually rarely has big fits and crying sprees. Amelia sounds like she is also a fairly even-keel kid (or maybe my impression is wrong TGal?) If you have a more sensitive baby or a fiesty spirited baby, then you may need to try more calming methods and wait a lot longer before you try to get baby to sleep on his/her own etc. Psychology research is pretty clear than there are some basic foundation elements of temperament that are present from birth and really emerge around 3 to 6 weeks... reactivity is one, and if you have a child low in reactivity, then you are on easy street and can try a schedule and "training" earlier, but if you have a child high in reactivity, then you may been to focus more on survival in the start!

If you are curious about what reactivity is, it is basically the baby version of anxiety. For example, a baby low in reactivity will startle or look curious at a loud and unfamiliar noise. A baby high in reactivity will scream like a banshee for 10 minutes!

NYC you look great!

NYC- Yay for your pics! You look GREAT, can''t believe you have twinks in there.

DD- Not at all do I think of you as the crazy lady!
2.gif
In my dream, you had a husband but he was at work. Thanks for the insight on the baby temperment. I am really interested (or scared?) to see how our little one is. I was definitely a "fiery" baby, DH was super even-keeled. My DH is reading Baby Wise, and he is all kinds of fired up about it. But I have to keep reminding him, the little guy may not be so easily scheduled. We kind of just have to see.

Thanks Fisher!

I am back from my first pre-natal appt this morning! Hubby came with me. We didn''t get a peak at the baby. I just peed in a cup and then we sat down with the doctor and he explained things about pregnancy, medicines I''m allowed to take, foods I can eat, etc. I had an internal exam, doctor just checked the enlargement of my uterus and he said all looks good! So I have my next appt in 3 weeks. I asked if we could see what''s inside then and he said there''s not much to see until we check out the anatomy at 4-1/2 months. So actually now I''m not sure if he''ll check for a heartbeat next time or what. As long as I keep progressing then everything is fine. We''ll have other tests later.

So there wasn''t much to it, but all is well!

Yes and no. She was tougher at first. At 4 weeks, I would not call her an even keeled kid. Not problematic, but not totally easy (no big crying spells though, that would be correct - but I think those start after week 2 and we were already trying to figure out to head that off). However, with schedule came peace. Then for months she was easy peasy. Very mellow.

Since about 10 months old (when she started crawling) she has become much more fiesty and WHINY.

I think DD is onto something with the reactivity issue...Amelia would startle, possibly cry, but never scream or freakout.

Yay belly pics from NYC

You look great! And 34 weeks

Sun-Glad to hear the appointment went well. How many weeks are you? I think most doctors will let you hear the heartbeat at around 12 weeks. The first time she used the doppler on me was at 15 weeks.

Thanks DD, CC, Fiery- yeh I always think my belly is too small for twinks...but everyone says I lost weight and grew belly..so its verry nice to hear ;)

NYC, nice belly pics!

Same to all the ladies, Fiery and Mela! Blen, your photo is great to see the progression of 3day post, and one day.

Sunkist, congrats on the first appointment! Did you have to get your blood drawn? What is your EDD?

Hello to everyone else- still sitting here with no voice- TWO WEEKS NOW! I had to get a cup of peppermint tea from Starbucks, it''s the only thing that remotely helps, and the Doogie Howser MD lookalike barista also added about seven (no joke) honey packets to it as well).

I''m trucking along, waiting for my next appointment in a week and four days. Still feeling randomly queasy, add to that brushing your teeth and it''s a bad start to your morning!!At least I''ve only thrown up twice in 7.5 weeks!

Amber

Oh yes, Amber! My EDD is Nov. 21, just like I thought. I have to go to a place to have my blood taken sometime before my next appt in 3 weeks. So I''m 7w6d. One day ahead of you? So Amber you''re EDD must be 11/22, right?

Sunkist! Yes! We''re only one day apart, due date wise! How cool is that??

Cute bellies! Blen, I can''t believe how much of a difference there is in your belly from just a few days!

I was off from work today for Good Friday. It was great getting to sleep in and to have time to work on my final project for my photography class! No belly pic from me today because I didn''t manage to actually get dressed. Oops. I''ll post one tomorrow though. I did a photoshoot with my nieces yesterday and it was a lot of fun. I have 7 of my 12 final images completed. We''re going to do another shoot on Sunday when they''ll be dressed up in their Easter clothes and I don''t think I''ll have a problem getting 5 more shots that I want to use. Here''s what I''ve spent my day working on (not the college, but retouching the individual images):

robbie3982finalprojectcollage.jpg

Those pictures are beautiful, Robbie! Your nieces are really pretty. Photography is a favourite hobby of mine as well - I just don''t have as much time for it as I used to, though.

Hi all, I too hope to take a belly pic tomorrow.

I did some maternity shopping with my mom (thanks mom!) yesterday and today . . . 3 expensive pieces from a boutique and a bunch of stuff from Target. They didn''t have much at Target but I liked almost everything they had in my size.

We had a little scare today, which I think/hope was probably just indigestion, which led to bloating and stuff pressing up against my uterus, plus some "growing pains." The pain was pretty severe for at least half an hour, so DH called the doctor, who said to call again if I had any bleeding or really couldn''t move due to the pain.

The funny thing is that when DH called the doctor''s office for me, all of a sudden he was saying, "Yes, oh hi! How are you? Oh wow!" and I was like, um, who are you talking to and can we stop chatting and get the nurse on the phone? It turns out that the woman who answered the phone was this creepy woman from college. She had a long time boyfriend but nonetheless she showed up at my DH''s apartment one time, put her hand on his heart, looked into his eyes, and told him that she was the only who understood what was in his heart. (DH did not share this assessment.) DH is a huge extrovert and in college there were lots of girls he had casually dated who never gave me any pause, but she hadn''t even dated him and she always gave me the heebie-jeebies. Apparently she told him that she thought she recognized his voice on the phone even though we haven''t seen her in 9 years! I could tell that the level of cheerfulness in her voice was not appropriate to a conversation with a man calling in to say his pregnant wife was having pelvic pain, although I''m not saying she should have pretended not to recognize him either.

Anyway, isn''t that weird? We thought she moved away. Our little city feels like a small town most of the time, and we run into the people who remained here pretty regularly. I find it hard to believe we didn''t know she was living here. At least if she works at the doctor''s office I have a little forewarning! And maybe the call center isn''t the same as reception anyway.

The good news is, I feel a LOT better now. The pain started with a stomach ache and feeling like what I ate for lunch didn''t agree with me, but it was definitely my uterus which was throbbing painfully for at least 45 minutes, and my back hurt a little too like menstrual cramps. Hopefully everything is ok and it was just the bloat/growing theory. I have no bleeding whatsoever and passing gas seems to help, although I couldn''t when the pain was the worst (sorry if TMI).

Just wanted to jump on and say I LOVE all the belly pics. No pic for me today, since things have been crazy here, and I still haven''t had time to take a single belly pic at 16 weeks.
BUT, we are leaving for our vacation in Hawaii tomorrow! I''m pretty excited about it. My mom and I went shopping and she bought me a bunch of maternity shorts and tanks for my birthday (which is on Wednesday). I couldn''t bring myself to buy one of those ugly maternity bathing suits, so I just bought some more supportive regular bikinis.
I hope everybody has a great weekend and great next week. "See" you all when I get back.

Hey gals! Hope everyone is doing well. Just a quick drive-by belly Friday pic taken yesterday. I''m 8 weeks and 2 days.

I just realized that I only have 2.5 weeks left in the school year, which I''m VERY happy about! Gotta study for finals though.

phoenixgirl, glad you're feeling better and that everything seems to be okay.

Gosh Everyone is looking FOINE! Great pics girls!

Blen-o thanks for posting those. I''m SO curious to see what I''m going to look like post-"party". It''s hard to believe it can go down that much in 3 days (when it took so long to grow that big), yah know?
Anyways. You''re looking great. I''m just to proud of you. Is that wrong to say? haha.

China. you are SO bad. I''m going to come over there and take pics of you myself, lung yady!

LOL...thanks mela! Yeh I remember jen''s belly ...but I think mine looks small bc I was a chunkster pre preggo..so its going in the wide direction ;)

Hey everyone! You all look great! Blen, I''m particularly grateful for your pp pics, I''m so curious about that!
Sunkist, yay for a good apt! Are you going to have the NT scan done? If so, you will get an u/s for that. If I hadn''t had complications early on, my only u/s would have been at the anatomy scan.
Courtney, I can''t believe you''re at -1 station already! Exciting stuff!
Robbie, those pics of the twins are great!

I''m posting from my brother''s house in NY, and what was supposed to be a really fun and relaxing weekend has not been off to a great start. I was all worried that our dogs would not get along, but they are doing pretty well. The real problem is me! I''ve always had terrible allergies, and slight allergy induced asthma. I am allergic to dogs, but some dogs affect me more than others. I''d been around my brother''s dog before with no problems, so I didn''t anticipate a problem for the weekend. But I seriously can''t breathe! It''s to the point where I don''t know if we''ll be able to stay through Sunday! The only time I can breathe is if we are outside...and yesterday we went to the city. All the walking around gave me major cramps (I think from indigestion from eating lunch in the car...bad idea), and by the time we got home my feet were so swollen my shoes were almost leaving cuts in them.

So does anyone else have asthma? Are there any extra precautions that need to be taken if I''m having trouble breathing? It''s never been much of a problem for me, so I never really asked the docs too much about it. I have an over the counter bronchial inhaler, which I told the doc. I use maybe once a month, and she said was fine. Well, I''ve used it 5 times since we were here, so now I"m worried that that isn''t good. It makes my heart race pretty fast as well.

Sorry, couldn''t edit, but wanted to add that I just did some online research, and it looks like most asthma medications are okay during pregnancy and there aren''t too many major risks to using them. Phew! But if you have personal experiences as well, I''d love to hear them!

Sabine- sorry ur going thru that
7.gif
...I too have breathing issues and they basically relate to allergies bc nothing else shows up on tests...I have it now as we speak and can''t sleep...I always sleep with th ac on or windows open bc I need the air flow and I stick to allergy meds like benadryl. I used to take a med that opens up the air waves when it got really bad. But there''s really nothing to do for it unless someone else has some advice?....take benadryl and get fresh air as much as possible! Feel better..and try not to be close to the dogs!
