Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

China ~ I love that wall decal! There are soooo many I like that I am having a really hard time deciding on what I want. I don't want to hang anything above the crib, so I am thinking of having a tree like this come up behind it.

Mandarine ~ Do you remember which Etsy seller had the decal you posted a while back in your collage? The one with the birds on the branches? I can't find it!

Amber- Don't be silly, you look great!!!! Perfect preggo belly.

V- Yep, you're pretty small for 27 weeks, but you look awesome. I think no matter what you are (big or small), it isn't WHAT people say so much as it's weird that people look at you and comment on your body at all. I was very similar to you and have been "small" my whole pregnancy. I mean belly-wise. It's weird when people "compliment" me on being so small or not having gained a lot of weight- I actually feel defensive b/c it's not like I have done anything to stay small- it's just the way this pregnancy has gone and I guess some luck and some genetics. And I feel like saying, but what if I wasn't "small"? Who cares, right, I am GROWING a baby and my body is doing what it needs to do. And if next time, I gain a ton of weight, so be it. There is nothing you can do about it (well, for the most part). I just feel the need to defend preggo gals everywhere. Maybe partly b/c I was so sure I was going to look like Britney Spears preggo! I do love me some Cheetoes.
3.gif
Anyways- don't worry, you will get bigger- I all of a sudden am pretty big at around 34-35 weeks. But I don't look 9 months preggo, people always ask me when I'm due and act really suprised when I tell them 3 weeks. But that works against you, b/c people I know forget that I am 9 months preggo and assume I can still do a ton of stuff. I have to keep reminding work that NO, I can't cover that deal for you, I won't be here!

So Cal- Great pic!

Dreamer- You rock. Not that I am surprised! Thank you so much for sharing your birth story. Not sure if it's the hormones, or b/c I'm getting close, or just your words, but you had me in (happy) tears. A few comments/questions: Why did you let the water break on the floor rather than in the toilet? I know you're supposed to check, but thought you could just "see" it, in which case in the toilet would be fine. No? Also, my two absolute fave lines are "Protect the perineum!" and "manning the vagina".
3.gif
I am going to get DH to practice saying "Protect the perineum!" Genius. Love that no one thought to tell you boy or girl. So cute. Congrats again!
36.gif

Indy- Great tree pic, so soothing. I will definitely post some pics when we get ours up.

As for me- appt was good today. Still closed, so she thinks I'll probably deliver close to my due date. Which I am happy with. So DH gets to go out of town. I get to eat ice cream, watch girlie movies and probably go get a massage! Dad is NOT coming, she said though the chances are slim that I could catch anything from him, it just isn't worth it. I'm ok with that, so don't need the swine flu right now. BAD NEWS: She is going out of town next Saturday until 2 days before my due date.
23.gif
I am kinda meh about it though. I mean, if she had told me this 2 months ago I probably would have stressed. But at this point, what can I do? It's gonna be what it will be. I really want her to deliver me, because I like her and trust her and I know where she is coming from on things, so I can interpret her recommendations. But assuming there aren't any complications, I know the dr shows up at the last minute. So I'm just a) hoping he doesn't come until my due date, and b) if he does, well, I just hope I don't have any complications with some strange doctor. But it will be what it will be, if there's anything we've learned on here, you can't control anything when it comes to labor!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

DD - thank you so much for posting your birth story! You are a star!

You''ve also made me feel so much better - I couldn''t believe that I was only fingertip dilated after 30+ hours of strong ctx. By the time I got to 1cm four hours later and after over an hour of pitocin I was in crazy amounts of pain and convinced I''d be at least 6-7cm. I nearly cried when they said what it was.

After I''d got the epi (heaven), I remember saying to the midwife that I thought they only considered active labour to be from 4cm, and please tell me that all these women who stayed at home until they were 5-1-1 and 3-4 cm dilated weren''t in the pain I had been in - because I was either a complete pathetic wuss, or they didn''t have the kind of labour I was having...

Once the malposition was found, the dilation problems were suddenly explained of course

LOL! Thanks China! Glad you liked it. As to your question about the waters, my birthing coach recommended scooting forward to let a little on the floor because it would be easier to see if there was mec in it, rather than letting it get diluted in the toilet bowl or mixed in with an "substances" in the bowl. Seemed like it made sense to me! And my "protect the perinium" mantra must have worked because I had no tearing with a 8.5lb baby. The midwife did constant perineal massage during the pushing stage between each contraction, and once he was crowing I didn''t push at all so it was a slow stretch I think. Anyways, get you DH to practice because it wil lreally help your recovery!

China, I''m sorry you won''t get to spend quality time with your dad, but better safe than sorry!

Dreamer, what a story! Polyhydramos is not an issue with me, my size is all baby. After reading your story, I''m actually feeling slightly better about my apt. today because I honestly don''t think I could do what you did!

Vizsla, you look great! I had a friend who carried really small until she hit about 30 weeks, and then she did get a beautiful bump, so you might still fill out, but even if you don''t, as long as the baby''s healthy, that''s all that matters!

Amber, your bump is so cute and round! Yes, I am short (5''1), so you might end up with as much belly as me, but you never know.

I swear, I''m the only person on the planet yet to jump on the etsy board. I''m not really big into artsy things, but I was trying to find a decal for our nursery, and I just found the site really difficult to navigate.

Well, I''ve been having a terrible day.

At my apt. today, I was hoping for SOME progress, but nope, I am closed up tight (actually a regression from last week, didn''t know that could happen) and still thick with the baby still up high. Basically, if I haven''t made ANY progress by next week at my u/s, we''re going to go ahead and schedule a c/s for around 39 weeks. I''m definitely bummed about this, but at the same time, I know it''s probably what''s best for my LO. Honestly, my dr. said if my body was showing ANY signs of being ready, we could talk induction instead, and I pretty much agree. I don''t want to put my body through the stress of trying to go from zero to dilated only to still end up with a c/s. My dr. also explained that even though my average glucose numbers look good, I''m having about 1 high a day, and here at the end is when it''s most important to try to control them. So I''ll be starting glyburide as well.

So I went to walgreens to fill the scrip, and we''re having a pretty bad thunderstorm, and the power goes out at walgreens for a while and even their backup system fails, so we''re all stuck in the dark for a few minutes. They had trouble getting their system to reload, so I left. I get home, and our power is out here too. It was out for over 2 hours! Luckily it''s back on now though!

Cute bellies full of babies, ladies!!!

Ok, I wanted to post my pic since it''s Friday... and make the announcement... ok, i''ll be back shortly to read and respond to all the posts I''ve skipped :)

This was our issue as well, and it was probably due to the polyhydramnios and it was also probably what caused all the pelvic pain I was having! Hunter still likes to "malposition" himself at night in bed and it wakes him up!

It sounds like there were some similarities in our labours. When you have time you should try to post your story, though I am one to talk since it took me 5 months to finally get it done.

Dreamer, what a story! Polyhydramos is not an issue with me, my size is all baby. After reading your story, I''m actually feeling slightly better about my apt. today because I honestly don''t think I could do what you did!
Well of course you can if you need to! It is over so quickly, and in the moment you are so overwhelmed and focused all at the same time that you aren''t really thinking about it all very much, at least that was my experience. You forget the pain of the day *so* fast... I can say in complete and total honesty that recovery from being pregnant and from the birth has been a much bigger deal for me than the actual day and the pain. I feel like it is taking forever to "get my body back" and when I think about having a second, it is this post-partum period that I fear so much more than the labour and delivery.

I''m sorry that you may have to have a c-section, I know that isn''t what most women want when they think about having their child. But if it is best for your baby, then it is the best thing to do for sure! Lots of others here on PS have had them and I''m sure can offer some really good advice about what to expect etc. I know *exactly* how you feel with the uncertainty of these last days/weeks, and I just want you to know that as soon as you have your baby it will all seem like a distant memory! It is coming so soon! You will meet your child!

Sabine- I'm sorry you've had a bad day
7.gif
I know you weren't planning on a section, but soon you'll have your little one in your arms!

Dreamer- Thanks for posting your birth story!

All this talk about nurseries... I can't wait to see everyone's pics!
Since I've been home from the u/s I've been surfing around looking for the perfect inspiration for my lil boy's pad!

Sabine If it makes you feel better I had a scheduled c-section and really it wasn''t bad at all. I think a scheduled C is a very different animal from an emergency C. Robbie knows how to contact me if you think you''ll be having one and have questions! Most important thing you can do after one is get up and move around ASAP. It really helps things heal faster IMO.

I'm going to cry. I just had a huge post written and it got eaten!
emcry.gif
Ugh...here goes again...

So DH and I just got back from a week at the lake and I am behind AGAIN! The week was great- last big trip before the baby! Relaxing on the beach was fantastic. Now back to reality, right? Sorry to those of you that I miss...

Sweetpea- Congrats on your boy! So Bennet it is? I love that name. My cousin has a Bennet and he is a cutie pie. We all call him Benito (Cuban family). Love it!

China- Can't wait to see your nursery. Love all your names, but am most partial to Oliver. One of the girls I work with has an Oliver, calls him Olly, and he is the sweetest! Really like Dashiell, and Dominic has always been one of my faves.

Sabine- Congrats on being full term! As for the mom/dad situation, I agree with everyone else. Maybe it would be best to space them out. Less drama, longer period of time with helpers...I know you are hoping to stil have a normal delivery, but there are pros to the c-section too. You can factor in your and DH's sschedules (especially since it seems like your DH's is a bit crazy now), get the house all ready, groceries in the fridge, and even get you toes done for the big day
emwink.gif
! Seriously, my girlfriend had one and she has the most gorgeous pics of right after the baby was born. Hair perfectly straightened, lipstick/makeup on, and fresh manicure. I know these are little condolences in giving up your "ideal" birth, but there has to be a silver lining, right? And most of all, healthy baby in the end!!! When I saw your belly pic, I thought just what everyone else said: the rest of you looks so tiny! I bet Dreamer's right and after that baby is born you are going to be even smaller that when you got pregnant.

Amber- so sorry about your friend.
7.gif

Fisher & Sunkist- another curly top here! DH's hair is straight as a pin, and I am really hoping my genes take over in this area. My niece got our curls, and it's SO cute! (ETA: By "our" curls, I meant my whole family has curls- she got them from my brother, not me of course. Thought that sounded a bit weird reading it back
2.gif
)

Re: GD test. I had mine 2 Fridays ago at 27 weeks 1 day and passed. I was really worried because my cousin had it with both of her kids and my gma had regular diabetes. Not sure if that all factors in, but I thought it might mean I was at higher risk. Anyhoo, all was good. Am I a weirdo for thinking the drink was yummy? Mmmmm...just like orange soda!

Cello- Hope you are officially on the mend! Can't imagine having to go through all that preggo! You poor thing!

QT- really hope all is well. Keep us posted.

Fiery- thanks for the tips. Good to see you back! Just gotta say again- Sofia is so pretty!

Dreamer- your story was amazing. Thanks so much. It's nice to hear that sometimes an epi actually helps the process along. I think there can be such a stigma about them. Like "oh, you got an epi- couldn't handle it, eh?" While I think a woman that goes all natural certainly deserves kudos, everyone's birth is different and it's impossible for anyone to know what each person goes through in her own experience. All women that give birth achieve a huge accomplishment, not just those that do it without an epi, know what I mean? Okay, rant over- just wanted to say thanks for sharing your experience!

To everyone that posted a pic- You ALL look great! It is so crazy to see how different each of us looks throughout our journies! I have such a problem getting pics resized to post here, but I think at 28 weeks I am a bit on the smaller side (belly only- thighs are a whole different story
40.gif
). 28 weeks 2 days today. Still having the aches in the bottom of my pelvis (between my legs), but other than that feeling good. I thought my feet/ankles were just swelling daily regardless of my activity at this point- but they totally went back to normal on vacation! Too bad I have to go back to work today
7.gif
. They will probably be back to sausages before the end of the day. Sorry for posting a novel here. Hope everyone is well and has a great Saturday!

DD- Oh, that makes total sense about the waters "mixing" with stuff in the toilet. Didn't even think of that, LOL.

Sabine- Aww, sorry about the sucky day and the electricity. As for induction/C-section, well, we just have to go with the flow here. Trust your doctor, and just remember that the end result (healthy baby) is what is most important. Everyone I know that had a scheduled C-section had a really good experience and even sound sort of "glad" they had one, if that makes sense. Seems like things start getting thrown at us at this late stage, and you just can't predict anything. Guess it's preparing us for mommyhood.
3.gif
We're here for you, though, if you want to vent or be scared. As for Etsy, I'm with you. I've been on the site once and I was so overwhelmed. I bought my sticker decal on another site that was recommended on Ohdeedoh (which is a nursery website). So you're not the only Etsy virgin here!

Sweet Pea- Congrats, welcome to TEAM BLUE!!!!

Natalina- Hey there, welcome back! Sitting on a beach sounds heavenly right now. Yay for passing GD test. Hope your ankles stay un-swollen.

Seems like Oliver is a fave. Question for you all: Besides Natalina, do you know many Olivers (as babies or little kids, not grown ups)? My only concern with the name is that it is too popular- it seems to be on the popularity rise. BUT I don't know any IRL, and no one I know seems to be using it. I know it's super popular in the UK, but that doesn't bother me.

Ok, off for my massage!
36.gif
Happy Saturday!

Wanted to let those who were talking about Peony''s absence know that she''s fine. Super busy, but fine. (And the kiddos, too.)

Just no one is worried (funny how we do that over our friends here).
1.gif

Hi Fisher- DH and I are really struggling on names for our little girl. Focus is to have a formal name that can be shortened into a nickname. Some of our current faves, and any challenges with them are:

Emerson (Emmie)
Ellison (Ellie)
Avery (nickname?)
Calleigh (but maybe sounds too much like a nickname, can''t think of a long version we like...Calista- no. Calliope- no. Hmmmm...)

A little less than 3 months to figure it out (if she comes on due date). That doesn''t seem like enough time!

Natalina,

Our top names are--in no particular order--:

**Elizabeth Suzanne (she would be Beth, though)

**Callie Jayne (issues with not wanting Callie to be shortened to "Cal," though, and I'm not loving Calliope... I mean, how is that even pronounced? I'm confused!!!)

**Annaka Jayne (Anna for short would be fine with us, but we want a name more unique than simply Anna for our daughter)

Avery is a very pretty name!! I have a friend named Avery and she goes by Avie to her friends, kind of a different nickname, but she wears it well!!

ETA--- a girl at work has suggested Calliah to be shortened to Callie. I don't mind that, actually, but don't know of a way to spell it that looks pretty.

ETA again---I just googled Calliope and this is the pronounciation they give it: Calliope {kal-eye-oh-pee} really??? I was thinking Cal-oh-pee which isn't all that lovely either, but cal-eye-oh-pee sounds too much like kaleidoscope for me.

ETA for the third time---What about Calliana? I think I like that (which means my husband will NOT).
2.gif

Fisher- I love Annaka! I think Anna or Annie is so cute as a nickname for a little girl. I actually spent about an hour on our vacation trying to convince DH that we could name our daughter Anniston and call her Annie, but he would not let go of the Jennifer Anniston connection. I guess that is what everyone would think of, but I just think it would make a pretty first name. Not sure about Calliah. Have to think about that one. Funny that we have the same issues with Callie/Calleigh.

I find it so funny how when two people like the same name, most of the names on their "list" are also names that the other likes, too. I would love Emmerson, but Paul thinks it''s a boy name and would never go for it. Calliah I''m not loving, either, but I think Caliana is super cute, now that I think about it. Annaka is a name Paul chose, and it''s really grown on me over time (if only there was no associating it with sci-fi shows/movies!!).

When you put each name with your last name, which one sounds the best to you, or looks the best? I''m big about the way names look together (although with a girl, it doesn''t matter as much since likely the last name will be changed at some point in time) and that has helped us to cross several potential names off our list.

I know you''re having a girl, but just for kicks, what names were you thinking about before you knew?

China- I don't know a single Oliver. I quickly looked up its popularity in your state, and it didn't even make the top 100 in 2007.

natalina- Callie could be a nickname for Callia, which is very pretty (IMO). Or Calla.

sweet pea- Congratulations on team BLUE!

fisher- Traditionally, Emerson is a boy's name- I believe names that end in "son" generally mean "son of ______." There are exceptions, of course!
1.gif

Arg, another short one from me. If I can, I'll snap a pic of our nursery today and share! (I know- how long have I been promising this?)

sunkist
Thanks. I don''t think he''ll say anymore about the placenta, but I''ll see in 2 weeks or so.

Sabine
I think the 2 weeks is for them to get the results of the blood work. Since the screening is mandated, the blood work is done by the state lab. That''s probably the reason why it would take so long.

I hate when the dr doesn''t answer my questions; I just think there''s no point of me seeing them.

Hope you have some progress next week, so you can have an induction instead? Have you try walking more. I was close tight at my 39 weeks appt, and OB was saying if I go overdue for 3 days, then he''ll induce. He suggested that I walk at least 1 hr each day until I am tired. I did that, and I ended up losing my MP and getting contractions 3 days after the appt. Good luck to you.

You are all belly mama. Just beautiful.

Yay for the fading stretch marks.

vizsla
My OB has a really old u/s at his office. This 4D u/s is from the perinatologist who did the NT scan.
You has such a cute bump. Just ignore people''s comments on your belly. Everyone carries differently. Plus you are so tall that there''s plenty of room for the baby.

rockpaperscissors
Thanks for giving the normal range for the NT thickness. The dr was really just in and out b/c they are so swamped.

Trying not to worry about the placenta b/c I have no control over it anyhow.

ChinaCat
No, I''ve never been to this dr before. The thing is that CA just mandated the 1st trimester screening which includes the NT scan in April. So b/c of that, all the perinatology clinic are super swamped since only they can do the NT scan and there aren''t that many perinatologists around. I am not going to bother calling for answers b/c the person at the clinic were just not very friendly.

The nursery sounds awesome. Can''t wait for the pics.

Love your positive attitude about your dr going out of town. I find it very helpful to have a positive attitude and open mind when it comes to childbirth.

Amber
Yeah the wait was ridiculous. It''s all b/c CA mandated the 1st tri screening. My OB and his nurse already warned me about the wait, but I wasn''t expecting over 2 hours. When we were talking about the scan, my OB said when he attended meeting regarding the mandate, he knew that the perinatologists weren''t ready for the large wave of patients but they insisted that they were. And my OB seems pretty frustrated that patients are being scheduled starting at 6am. If we have a third baby, I''m going opt out of the scan.

Your belly is so cute and round. And yay for all day movements and feeling it from the outside.

so cal girl
Cute belly.

sweet pea
That''s a cute way to announce that you are having a boy.

natalina
Thanks.
Hope your ankles/feet doesn''t swell too much after you go back to work.
Good luck with the names.

Dreamer I love your birth story! How amazing that you eventually became fully dialated in your sleep once you had the epi! Thanks for all the details, you are absolutely amazing and you''re making me cry over here
3.gif
I love how you say "How can we be solely responsible for him? Who gave us permission?" I think I will feel the same way once our baby is born. I''m 28 but I still feel like I''m 18!

Hi, girls...quick question. What do you guys eat most of the time for lunch? I know lunch meat is a no no, and I''m usually not in the mood for anything heavy, so I need new ideas. I was looking into Lean Cuisines or something like that b/c the only thing I have been finding really appealing is pasta, but I am highly allergic to food coloring, and most of them have it in there. Thanks and hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Ebree- Good to know re: Oliver.

QT- Well that makes more sense re: the wait and stuff. I thought this was your regular doctor. So it's mandated in CA, but you can opt out? Interesting.

Steph- I eat a lot of chicken salad sandwiches and veggie burgers. I also love the Kashi frozen meals, like the Black Bean Mango. Yum. Also, there's Amy's brand, which are organic so probably doesn't have that stuff in it. I love the brown rice bowl, super yummy. Most of the Kashi and Amy's stuff is yummy, at least I think so. It's hard without the deli meat for sure!!!! I'm so ready for a turkey sandwich. Oh and in the beginning I ate a ton of peanut butter, mac and cheese, plain pasta and margarita pizza.

Well, it's storming like crazy here, massive thunder and lightning. My electricity has gone out 3 times already. What else can go down here??? DH, Mom, Dad, and sister are out of town, 3 weeks from due date and now the electricity is out. Keeps coming back on though, so trying not to stress. Sounds like it's slowing down.

Oh, 37 weeks here! Guess I'm "term" now.

Steph - I mostly took leftovers, with a bunch of fruit, veggies, and yogurt for snacks.

China - I don''t know any young Olivers, but when we were considering it I had wondered if it was on its way up. Olivia''s so popular right now, I''m not sure whether that would boost it or not. But I do love it.

Fisher - I''d go with your original hospital choice, personally. First time moms especially generally have plenty of notice, plus mammals generally go into labor in the evening or night and not during the work day. Insisting on taking a healthy newborn away from its mom to weigh it, etc., before she can hold it sends up red flags for me. By the way, I think that Calla''s my favorite name that leads to the nickname Callie. But I''m partial to Elizabeth.
5.gif

China - how the heck did you get to be full term?! (Well, I know how you got there, but I honestly thought you had a couple more months to go still!)

DD - thanks for posting your birth story. You were such a champ! And I loved your description of the after birth moments - reading it just brought back that high for me.

Sabine - good luck with everything.

Sweet Pea- congrats on having a boy!!

Anyone have any input on crib mattresses? We ordered our crib from PBKids today, and almost ordered the mattress too but thought maybe we should research it a bit. They have a basic for $149 and a supreme for $279. Both meet safety requirements and have a coconut fiber core. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

p.s. No swollen feet/ankles after work tonight! Hooray!

Hi!

I''m 14 weeks pregnant with our first, and due in January so I wanted to pop in and say hello! I don''t see myself going back and reading all 698 pages. LOL! I might go back and skim some though!

Welcome, Orbaya! I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Ladies, we must be busy today ~ this board is slooooooow!

Blen,

I had no idea that mammals tend to go into labor at night or in the early morning. How odd. I mean, I don''t want to go into labor at work (not at all), but it''s funny how there is a general time of day that labor comes. I wonder what causes that?

Off to Google... (oh how I love the power of googling!!)
