Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Sabine,
If you don''t mind me asking, did you have any symptoms of GD prior to your test? I ask because I had some insulin issues a few years ago that went away with Metformin, but I have been so unusually thirsty the past few days that I am a little concerned what my results will be. I know it could just be from the heat here in FL, but it is literally an all day thing where I can''t get enough to drink. My urine sample didn''t show anything today, but I don''t know....just have a feeling. Thanks

Okay, how do I get so behind in this thread?! There is so much going on, I know I am missing about half of the people, but here is what I can remember from the last few pages.

Monkey Pie- Congrats! Welcome to the craziness that is being pregnant!!!

Sabine - I''m hoping your appointment goes well tomorrow. Your boy will be here so soon. You must be so excited!

China - Great news on not having to be induced. You get to keep that baby baking for a bit longer.

Steph - Congrats on hearing the heartbeat. The first time I was supposed to hear my baby''s, the doctor couldn''t find it for a while, and it totally freaked me out! Those babies are playing tricks on us already
1.gif

Mandarine - Good luck with the glucose test. I have had to have two already, since they made me do one at about 10 weeks too, since I have a family history. The drink did not taste good, but you''ll be fine. Hoping you pass with flying colors, so you can avoid the dreaded 3 hour.

Vizsla - I hear you on the heartburn. I never really had it before, I am NOT liking it. I hope your back is feeling better. I can''t recommend much to relieve it, since mine has not been bad until this last trimester, and I think that is more due to just pure overall achiness.

And, on to me. Starting to get annoyed at this stupid heat wave. And I''m just starting to get uncomfortable all the time. Things have been pretty easy up to this point, but I think these last 8 weeks are going to be no fun.

Quick question for those that are farther along, or have been through this before. Did you feel like the baby''s kicks got more or less frequent at the end? I was doing my kick counts last night, and it took twice as long to feel my ten kicks as usual. It still didn''t take that long (45 minutes versus 25 minutes), but I am just wondering if it is because he has less room to move around in there. I also wasn''t feeling well last night, so I don''t know if that had something to do with it.

Oh, and I need an opinion on names. I *THINK* DH and I have finally agreed on Eli. We have kind of been calling him that from the beginning, but still keeping our options open. I told DH if that is not going to be his name, we should probably stop calling him that
1.gif

The issue is, DH thinks he need to have a more formal name on the birth certificate, even though we are just planning to call him Eli. So, which do you prefer?
Eli James H____
Elijah James H____

So Cal girl, I know right, they are already testing us! I was so nervous I think I was holding my breath almost the entire minute it took him to find the heartbeat. Then I told him where I was feeling little flutters, and he found it right away! As far as the kicking, I do remember feeling less and less movement at the end. I think the little guys/gals just have no more room in there! I think as long as you''re still feeling movements, you are all good. Oh, and I love Elijah with Eli as a nickname....so cute!

Steph- Congrats on hearing the HB- such a relief, right???? I STILL hold my breath whenever I get an u/s or they use the HB monitor. I am going to guess early for you, but I see a girl!!!!!!

Mandarine- I HATE sweet stuff, and the orange drink wasn''t that bad at all to me- perhaps b/c I was so convinced I wouldn''t be able to drink it! GL, sure you''ll be fine. A friend of mine just had her twin boys yesterday, so thought of you and Peony. One was well over 6 lbs and one was well over 7lbs!!!! They are so cute, but look nothing alike.

V- Welcome back!

So Cal- Yes, the kicks have gotten less frequent for me, and I''ve read that''s normal in later pregnancy. There isn''t as much room at all. I don''t feel the same tons of flutter kicks now, more like a couple of big ones and then quiet. My doc said as long as you can get 10 movements in an hour, not to worry! Oh, and I LOVE Eli James. Awesome name!!!! Personally, I kind of just like "Eli", but think Elijah is pretty cute if you need a longer name.

Off to my hospital tour- yes, it''s a bit late in the game, but they kept pushing the date back. Of course, I''ve spent all afternoon reading Ina May''s book on labor and how negative hospitals can be, so great attitude I''m taking with me!

CC, thanks for the early guess. I have no idea. I was convinced it was a boy again, but I am craving lots of healthy stuff like fruit and salads, which was not the case at all with my son! Good luck with the hospital tour!

Thanks china and steph for the reassurance on the kicks and the input on names.

steph - Like china, I am going to make an early gender prediction for you. I''m going to say boy, just since he''s already playing those little tricks on you! But I have been wrong pretty much every single time, so it''s probably a girl
1.gif

Sabine it sounds like you''re all set! I hope everything goes smooth and as planned. Good luck!!!

Vizla welcome back
1.gif
Sounds like you had fun at the wedding. I don''t know about sciatica yet, but I hope you can get relief!

Amber, re: pain, that wierd pain in my pelvis is gone, thank goodness. I still have a little lower back pain every morning but thankfully it doesn''t bother me during the day. Actually this morning at the gym being out in push-up position was really bothering my lower back too. I don''t think I can do that anymore. I went to look at maternity pillows at BRU today. $50!!! I think I''ll continue to improvize with other things :)

Hi Mandarine! Good luck with the glucose test
3.gif
I''m going to be scheduling mine next month
40.gif
I get so queezy easily. Has this sugar drink ever made anyone throw up??? I hope not.

MonkeyPie congratulations on the pregnancy!!
36.gif
36.gif
Have a good appt!

Hey Natalina I hope you are feeling better. I''m sure everything is just fine. And I always thought that there is a high percentage of false positives on those tests anyways. Anyways, everything is going to be fine with your baby
12.gif

Aww, Ok, now I remember why I didn''t want to be pregnant during summer. It''s sooo hot in my office at work. The AC went out and the fix-it man still hasn''t come! Thank goodness for fans

Re: weight gain. I think I started at about 128 and at 23 weeks I''m at 139. So that''s 11 lbs already. My doctor said he expected me to gain 15-20 pounds during the pregnancy! I dont know if that''s possible to stay that low. Doesn''t the baby gain like a pound a week during the last trimester?? Or maybe it''s just the last month? Did your doctors tell you wha they expected you to gain?

Thinking about getting this bassinet instead of a crib for now since we don''t have a separate nursery.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3029430

It seems pretty cool with the removeable Moses basket. But if we did want to move the kid to a separate room at night, can you leave them in a bassinet in another room??? This thing looked sturdy at BRU today, I''m just nervous cause it''s obviously not as sturdy as a crib would be.

I wouldn''t move it to another room. I have the Arms Reach mini-Co Sleeper which is very solid, but says not to leave them in it alone. I love it by the way!

We have Daisy in our room at night and she has never once woken DH up. She never cries at night - just wakes up and talks to herself and kicks her legs until I pick her up. When she''s actually asleep she''s totally silent. We plan to have her in with us until at least 6 months. Plus, breastfeeding is so much easier and less disruptive to you both if you are in the same room - if I catch Daisy just waking up (which is easy now as she always wakes at the same time so my body has adjusted and so do I) I can get her up, fed and back to bed without her really noticing which gives me way more sleep!

Some babies are noisy sleepers so it doesn''t work so well.

Steph, congrats on hearing the heartbeat! I didn''t really have any "signs" of GD, but I did have some of the risk factors (hypothyroidism, being overweight to begin with, family history). I also just had a feeling I would have it for some reason. If you''re worried, it can''t hurt to start following the GD diet early. It just consists of limiting carb intake, having 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, and making sure to pair the carbs you do eat with protein. Let me know if you''d like more info. on it.

So cal, I like both Eli and Elijah, so I''m no help.

Sunkist, that sounds like a really low range for weight gain. Since I was overweight to begin with, my dr. told me I should "aim" to gain only 20-25 pounds. If you are at a healthy weight pre-preg., I''ve heard the range 25-35 lbs being optimum. I don''t understand drs. who lecture on weight gain though. I was happy mine told me what I should aim for, but none of my doctors made a big deal about weight gain ever!

Did anyone see the news story today about the woman in Mass. who was killed and her 8 month old fetus was cut out of her stomach? They said it happened after she texted people that she was drinking wine coolers. How horrific.

Alright, I''m off to powerclean our apartment before my apt. at 1 today. I still haven''t had a SINGLE sign of impending labor...not even any irregular contractions or anything, so I have a feeling I''m still going to have ZERO progress. I''ll keep you all updated. Robbie is currently still in New York visiting family, so I don''t know if she''ll be able to post for me, but hopefully one of us will once I have my birth scheduled.

Vizla, I hear ya on the heartburn and back pain. My back got all out of wack last week when I was spending 12 hours driving/in a conference every day. I found that the pain was posture related and that stretching and switching positions was the best thing, as well as lying on my side more. Now that I''m back at home the pain is mostly gone.

Mandarine, good luck on your test today! Mine is tomorrow. Did they tell you not to eat beforehand? Mine said I could, just to avoid stuff that''s sugary/high in carbs. I''m having bacon and eggs for breakfast tomorrow.

I have got to get some pictures on here of the nursery and my bump! Only in the last couple of weeks have I started getting unsolicited comments from strangers about being pregnant, which so far has been fun. This guy walking his dog the other day commented on me "getting my exercise." Well, I was walking two blocks wearing flip-flops to mail a letter, so I assume if he thought that was "exercise" it was only because I''m pregnant. And the wise old lady who works at the 7-11 down the street gave me a once over and then asked, "Boy or girl?" I wish I''d asked her what she thought because I bet she had a guess. Then she said a girl would be good for bossing DH around!
1.gif

Sabine, Thanks for the info. I will google the GD diet, but I pretty much ate this way when I had the insulin issues. Good luck and I hope you have made some progress!

Question for twin moms or twin mommies to be. One of my close friends just had her first prenatal appnt yesterday (she is 12 weeks pregnant) She said they heard a murmur on the doppler and that could indicate 2 heartbeats. She goes for her ultrasound on saturday and will find out if she is indeed carrying 2. I''ve never heard of a ''murmur'' and did a quick google search but didn''t get anything. anyone have info?

Sabine--I hadn'' heard that news story....but I did hear the one about the lady in San Antonion killing her 3 week old by cutting him up and eating parts of him....How terrible! She apparently had Post Partum Psychosis and Schizophrenia.

I asked my husbands cousin about this, since they have twins, and she said she got a murmur, too - that basically the heartbeats are ALMOST in tandem, so it''s hard to hear them seperately. How fun, having two! Twins run in my husbands family a bit but I can''t decide if I really would want two or not lol.

So cal, I really like Elijah, it''s always been one of my favorite names. I think that would be so cute.
9.gif

Thanks for all the congrats, ladies. I made my first appointment for the 13th - so far away! - and I am really excited. Got a question though. Did any of you have crazy night sweats in your first few months? I have been absolutely ROASTING at night and there have been no changes to our air conditioner or blankets. Last night I woke up several times soaked and chilled from the fan. It was awful
40.gif

MonkeyPie, I have been SO HOT since finding out I was pregnant. My body temperature is usually really low and I am usually freezing even during the summer in FL, but for whatever reason with both pregnancies, I have been so very hot!

ugh! Just got a call from the doctor. My sugar numbers were elevated. I have to go in for my 3 hour glucola test in 4 weeks.

Ugh...PS just ate my post! Why does that happen?!?!?! Here goes again:

Mandarine- Good luck on your GD test. I thought the drink was yummy- I guess I''m a weirdo!

Tao- Boo on elevated numbers. Hope your 3 hour goes well.

SoCal- Like Eli a lot, and Elijah is nice if you want a formal name/nickname combo. I know we do.

Sabine- I am leaving for a work trip today and will be gone through Sunday evening with no computer access, so I will miss your big news!
emsad.gif
I wanted to let you know I will be thinking about you and sending you strength and luck for a happy and healthy delivery of your sweet little Jackson! Can''t wait to get back and hear how it went!!!!

Well, ladies, wish me luck on this trip. I am a bit nervous about the flight because when I flew a few weeks ago I had an episode where I got really light-headed and nauseous and thought that I might be sick or pass out. I''m bringing lots of water and snacks this time, and plan on asking for an aisle seat so I can get up and walk around every now and then. Hopefully that will help. I feel a litle bit better because I won''t be flying alone this time. 4 of my peers will be on the flight with me, and they are all women that have children. Just makes me feel a little better that if I were to pass out or something (God forbid), that they know me and could speak for me/ help me. Eeek! Hopefully I am worrying for nothing. My doc is okay with me going, so off I go! I''m such a worry wart lately!

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week/weekend!

~natalina
30 weeks tomorrow (eeeeeeeeek)

Jas12, I have never heard of that, but I guess it''s possible! Let us know what she finds out!!
9.gif

Monkeypie, the fact that twins runs in your DH''s family won''t increase your chances of having twins (it has to be on the mom''s side). He could pass that gene on to your little ones though!

I have been the oppossite with body temperature...FREEZING the first few months and now really hot (after about 20 weeks or so)

Tao, I am so sorry you have to do the 3-hour!!!....hopefully that one comes up normal! good luck!!

Natalina Good luck on your trip! You will be fine but it''s nice that you have some co-workers near just in case!

Sorry, I''m missing a ton of people but need to get on a conference call! So hello ladies!!!
35.gif

Just got back from the test!. The drink wasn''t bad at all...it actually helped because I was SO HUNGRY
35.gif
!!!!!!!. The taste wasn''t bad at all (I chose orange over lemon/lime). Now I guess I wait for the results....

While I was there, there was another girl doing the same test so we started talking. She was also 25 weeks!. I told her I was too, but it was twins...then all of the sudden everyone in the office was saying how tiny I was for twins!...haha. I feel huge, so even if they were lying I liked hearing it so I''ll take it!
2.gif
. maybe they were expecting I would be 5 times bigger than her (I was just slightly bigger, but not much really).

Ok, on to my call now!

I'm jealous that you got a choice! I had to drink a red version (not sure if it was cherry/strawberry or whatever)....I much prefered the orange one that I had the first time (I passed that one by the way).

If my numbers were really high would they wait 4 weeks to do the next test, or would they call me in sooner?

oh and also, I had to take my engagement ring off today
39.gif
....I know there was no way I'd be able to get it off tonight----thankfully though my wedding band still fits!

Tao,
Sorry if I missed it...but they did two tests for you? was that because you had history?

steph, I''m glad to know it wasn''t just me! But yuck - this is not a fun part at all! And it''s freaking out my husband. I told him if he is this worried now then the rest is going to scare him to death!
20.gif

taovandel, good luck! I''m send you lots of blood sugar dust!

Mandarine, that''s VERY good to know, because while twins sound fun in theory, that makes me scared! You are much braver than me, and how cute that you aren''t getting too big yet. Lots of good thoughts on your test results!

Morning ladies.

Sunkist- RE: weight gain- That sounds pretty low to me. Is your doctor older? They used to believe that women should only gain that much weight, and in fact used to prescribe diuretics to keep women from gaining too much weight!
23.gif
From everything I''ve read, 25-30 lbs is the optimal weight gain. If you look in What To Expect, or maybe on babycenter, there is a breakdown of what those 25 lbs consist of that really helped me. For example, fluid weighs a certain amount, your uterus weighs a certain amount, the baby, etc. I believe if you gain 25-30 lbs, only 8 lbs of that is actual mom weight gain. Or at least that''s what I read. Now, I do think that if you start out overweight (which you are not), then it is possible to gain less than that b/c your body doesn''t need to gain anything extra except what the baby and baby accessories (placenta, uterus) weigh. For me, I have probably gained about 27 lbs so far. I have worked out throughout and ate relatively healthy, but definitely indulged when I felt like it. I don''t look preggo from the back, and really am only bigger in my belly- I can still fit into pre-preggo pants that are low (NOT JEANS!) and dresses and such, as long as they accommodate my belly. I don''t say that for any reason other than I can''t imagine how I could have gained less weight, the baby itself plus the uterus and fluids weigh more than 15 lbs at this point. Now, that being said, I really think everyone''s body does what it NEEDS to do during pregnancy. Some women eat well and work out and still gain more than the 25-30 lbs, and I think you just have to let go and trust your body in this process. And your dr obviously has a reason for saying that, but I don''t want you to worry if you gain more than 15-20 lbs, I just think that is very unrealistic. We feel so badly about our bodies already, last thing we need is a dr making us feel bad for gaining weight when you are GROWING A HUMAN!!!! Ok, sorry for the long post, but I really hate how down women get on their bodies while preggo and I don''t want your dr to cause that in you. You look great!

Natalina- Good luck on your trip, you''ll be fine, drink lots of water and get up and walk around as much as possible. Why don''t you ask for a first class upgrade? You never know! There''s more room up there.

Sabine- Good luck at your appointment today!!! Waiting for your news! Think you''ll be able to update us today? So excited for you!

Tao- Ugh, sorry about the results. Lots of people fail the first time though, so fingers crossed for you.

RE: eating/not eating before the glucose test. They told me NOT to eat before mine. I asked my dr about this, b/c I''ve heard so many different things. She said you don''t HAVE to fast, but there are lots of false positives with this test, and sometimes eating can affect the results. So she told me, I could NOT fast, but if I failed, my options were to redo the 1 hour test but fast this time, or do the 3 hour test. So she said might as well fast so that you can avoid having to redo the 1 hour. Just a thought. But obviously, if your dr said to eat, then they probably know better than me!

The hospital tour was fine, but I was kind of hoping it would make me feel better about going into labor, but it didn''t really. This hospital has really nice rooms- single rooms only- but still felt creepy and sterile and well, like a hospital room.
3.gif
But it was clean and didn''t smell weird, and I''m sure it will be fine. I still can''t get my head around actual labor.

re fasting, my Dr just said it was better if I did but could have something small if I just couldn''t do it.

I just set-up the test for first thing in the morning...had a glass of water and sucked it up!

I really should be paying attention to my conference call...lol

Speaking of names...I am sure some of you gals considering names have seen this...funny!!!

Give a weird name... up the chances of deliquency:

Damn.

So I guess Princess Consuela Bananahammock is likely off the table then. :-)

Ok so I *guess* it's time for me to fess up since I have been lurking on this thread for a while now and I practically outted myself on the amnio thread.
9.gif

I'm 13.5 weeks pregnant.... we have been talking about it for years (literally) but it wasn't until our recent 5 year anni trip that we said, well lets just try and SEE...'I'm sure it will take us FOREVER because hello I am 34 with old eggs and you are 40 with sluggish sperm' (we had no idea this is just the silly convo we had HAHAA).

Well it didn't take forever because that fun anniversary weekend was it, BOOM. I had nausea from week 7 to 12 (and sometimes I still get it), have gained 3 lbs thus far, and my pants don't fit anymore. I had horrible gas and indigestion to start. So depressing to not have control over your body...I am used to always feeling great with lots of energy so this not feeling well is quite strange to me.

We've had four viewings of the nugget so far. 5 weeks where we just saw the empty circle; 8 weeks where we saw the alien looking embryo; 12 weeks for my nuchal ultrasound (such detail!) and one on Monday for our 13 week regular checkup. It's amazing to me how well formed the nugget was at week 12, pretty much DONE, now it just keeps growing. The science of it all is so crazy.

Anyway my due date is Jan 31/Feb 1... so Steph I am really close to you. We don't know the sex yet but at last visit the DR said she *thought* maybe boy but admitted that the spot could be labia that just hadn't separated yet. SO we'll see!

My family has a huge history with diabetes so they tested me early on (10 weeks). not sure if it was just to make sure I didn''t already have it.

Congrats Mara!

36.gif
Congratulations Mara! I had an inkling....

Ha, Mara, I had my suspicion when I see you popping in this thread and your knowledge about genetic testing.
Congrats to you and DH!
36.gif

and congrats for hitting the second trimester.
