Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

MTJOYA, it is very possible that you are feeling the baby already. With my first, I felt little flutters around 16 weeks. With this baby, I started feeling them at 11 weeks, which is very early, but I knew that feeling and knew it most def. was not gas. The flutters have been getting stronger and stronger over the past few weeks and I feel them most when I lay down at night to go to sleep or when I drink something sugary like OJ. I know for sure I was feeling movement b/c when I went to the doc for my 13 week appt., he was having a hard time finding the baby on the doppler, and I said well, I was just feeling movements on my left side under my belly button, so he moved the doppler there and found the baby!

oh i def. confused gas and baby... my first ''gas baby'' was around 18 weeks... and that felt like .. hmmmmmmmmm.. if you stuck your finger in some pop (yes, i''m from the midwest:P and the bubbles tickle your finger.... the first jab/kick was around 21 weeks. what was worrisome at the time was that overnight it went from flutters to jabs.... so i had no idea what i was feeling. it''s only been in the last 4 weeks or so that the movements have been really consistent and visible from the outside (and DH doesn''t have to struggle to feel them). i thought it was sooo weird/creepy at the beginning.. now that they are frequent it is such a relief to know that he''s moving and shaking around in there and that everything is OK. i quite enjoy it now

well, i had my fancy massage last night
20.gif
. i knew going into it i wasn''t getting your standard ''spa'' massage... and that''s not what i wanted.. i knew i needed ''adjusting'' and to get in better tune with my bod and what it was going thru. but even after an hour of adjusting ...... my back still hurts
39.gif
. she said it could take 4 or 5 sessions to ''reset'' my ebb and flow and return my body to ''center'' - but at $90 a pop i was hoping for more relief. it *was* interesting, she would work on my hips and it would momentarily alleviate the pain in my back.... and she would talk about how they were connected and lots of mumbo jumbo. mumbo jumbo that i actually like to know and believe in, but i realllllyyyyy was wanting some immediate relief.

one interesting thing was that she mentioned i was ''congested'' on my right side
26.gif
- the side that i feel the baby move on 99% of the time... (and actually got so freaked out about that he was ''stuck'' over there i burned up the internet trying to find other ppl who felt the same thing) ANYhoo as soon as she started unblocking my congestion the babe immediately started to kick me on the left side.. weird right?

nursing bras/tanks.... i''m so overwhelmed by the whole thing. i''m overwhelmed by how big these suckers are already, and how big they might get... i''m overwhelmed that my friend told me to put down a towel while i sleep so i don''t leak everywhere and ruin my sheets, i''m just overwhelmed with the whole thing........ breathe viz, breathe
3.gif

on a happier note, my midwife/friend told me that at my apt. tomorrow we can sneak a peek of the babe on the u/s. i''m soooo excited!!!
36.gif
36.gif
i haven''t seen the bean since our 20 week scan... i''m sure he''s soooooo big now. i''m soo jealous of mandy that you get to see your nuggets all the time.

hello to everyone else.. sorry about the ''me'' centric post today....

good luck sapphire.. i''m curious what your OB is going to say friday.

hang in there china.... and just think.. you may get induced on the 20th but the babe may decide not to come out until the 21st anyway
3.gif
...

seriously tho
2.gif
, that would be weird to ''pick'' your child''s birthday... my girlfriend had scheduled c-sections for her children and picked the same birthdate for both of them
3.gif
i think she thought that was cute...
37.gif
. if *i* could pick the arrival of this little one i would want him to come on halloween.. i think that would be fun... but that''s also at the END of 42 weeks... and, ummmmmmmm,
23.gif
i don''t think so
2.gif

Vizla, I'm glad the massage was helpful but too bad it didn't provide total/lasting relief. Maybe you can get DH to do the moves she was doing . . . Or maybe your insurance would cover a chiropractor? DH has to go sometimes and they always tell him the same thing about how he needs to go all the time to be fixed, but he's started stretching (mostly hamstrings as his get really tight and then cause back pain) religiously and that has really helped. So if the hip work really helped your back, maybe you can do some hip stretches?

Yum, when you said that Mandy got to see her "nuggets" all the time, I got an instant craving for chicken or fake chicken nuggets!

Yummy, now I want chicken nuggets too. Chick-Fil-A, here I come!

yeah, the masseuse was all *about* stretching etc. i've gotten really lazy with some of my yoga stretches... i told myself i had to allow 15 mins a night to myself to stretch.

does anyone else feel 'bad' when they are just relaxing/laying around? whenever i get home from work, i feel like i need to be 'on the go' getting stuff done around the house etc., before i 'let' myself sit around.... it's so hard for me to make time for myself. DH is always saying if you are tired lay down and sleep... but i get anxious about relaxing.... and i think 'ok, am i *really* tired, or do i just want an excuse to sit around?'
3.gif
oh lord, maybe i do need some 'adjusting'.

great..... i want chicken nuggets and waffle fries now.... oohhh and a lemonade.

i always thought that the reason it takes a while to feel the baby moving is because of all the space in the sac when they are small. you know when you see them on the sonogram and they are floating or whatever. if they stretch or move in there, how do you feel it? it''s surrounded by a huge sac of fluid! but then as people get further along the sac is more like 1/2 full and then 3/4 full etc. so then i thought ok it makes sense to feel a movement because there''s less room in there and it''s more ''apt'' to be felt externally. because the baby is pretty well protected in there by our bodies. maybe that''s not right? hehee. we are at 15 weeks so trying to see if we feel anything, but actually i do have a lot of gas, including popping gas (PG it feels like a bubble bursting in my lower gut or sometimes on the left or right of my uterus, i think it''s def gas hehe) but last nite greg was listening on the lower belly and he said he heard/felt a small pop and was like oh that''s gas but it was so mellow, not like typical gas bubbles for me so i was like maybe that was it. ha ha we will see i guess...we don''t know what we are doing!
9.gif

mara... me thinks that''s ''baby gas''
9.gif

Mara, that could be the baby...some people say they feel like popcorn popping in there! Mine has felt more like a butterfly fluttering around in there.

So after craving chicken thanks to this thread, we headed out to Chick-Fil-A (where I had a chicken salad and a yummy Peach milkshake for calcium purposes
2.gif
), and after eating, I let Andrew play in the play area for a while. Well, I got to talking to this other pregnant lady who was on her 3rd pregnancy and she asked me if I knew what I was having yet. I told her I would have to wait about 5 more weeks still. Well, she said with each of her pregnancies, she has paid to see the gender early at this place. She said all of her friends go there as well. So I checked it out online and for $75, they will do a gender determination anywhere after 15 weeks. I will be 16 weeks next week and am seriously thinking about going for it. It said if for any reason they are incorrect, they will give you your money back and if the baby is not cooperating, they will let you schedule another visit for free. Has anyone done this? I know my husband will think I'm crazy, but I just can't wait to find out!!

Question for you hot mamas!
4.gif

When did you first feel your baby move? This is my first bebe and I am not sure if I feel the baby move if it''s something else. Iam 13 weeks, it''s probably too early.

Thx...
This is my first baby and I started feeling light flutters at 13 weeks too. I didn''t know it was at first but then started thinking it could be the baby - but I was doubtful because everyone said it was too early to begin feeling anything, and others suggested it might be gas. I didn''t think it was gas though - because it was a distinctly different feeling than other sensations (including gas) I''d had before. I realized it was fetal movement when I realized the fluttering was pretty constant - especially at evenings - and got a bit stronger as the weeks went by.

So it''s definitely possible!!

Steph
That''s pretty good that they will offer refund if they are wrong. You should do it if you can''t wait.
People keep asking if we know the sex yet too. I might not tell this time.

do it steph, why not? there are places here also we can pay to do a 3d ultrasound... i don''t think we want to (i am a little creeped out by them honestly) but it''s a fun idea.

we could find out sex visually at 18 weeks...is your appt later than that? my friend''s doctor did an early sex determination at 13 weeks! and they were right! but a lot of people say you can''t tell til 15-16.

with our amnio next week they will also do a sex determination but i think the results are 1-2 weeks. so we''ll still have to wait anyway.
5.gif
but i also would love to know because i want to continue mentally planning. i have been looking at large clothing lots on ebay but most of them are by sex which obviously we don''t know yet!

3d u/s are creepy and neat at the same time... We''ll just wait for the big u/s for the sex. Probably in 5 weeks or so.

New U/S of Logan...looks like he''s got chipmunk cheeks! 36wks today, pic taken yesterday.

aww...thanks QT! I am soooo in love with him already...I just want him to get heeeeeeeere already!

LOL...yeah, I feel like there is a fishy swimming around inside but it''s very light and lasts for 5 seconds or so and then it stops. I have noticed that it''s always in the same spot and it always happens in the middle of the night. So, maybe I will notice when it finally gives me a good swift kick in the stomach, later on. LOL...

Sapphire-Your bebe is soooo cute! I luff the cheeks!

I had my first giving birth dream last night (at least that I can remember)! And I hate to say it, but I slept soooo well with DH out of town. I slept in the middle of the bed and put a pillow on either side of me so that I could roll from side to side freely without having to wake up and move the pillow too. It was glorious . . . I think I only peed once!

Anyway, in my dream I gave birth and it was so easy that I forgot/didn''t have time to go the hospital. Then breastfeeding seemed to be going ok, although sometimes I would look down and realize she wasn''t on my breast. But her mouth was full of milk and she had that drunk baby look so I figured she was getting it right enough of the time. I''m glad my subconscious seems to be aware that a baby is coming home soon!

China, something to consider when picking an induction date...now, this won''t be true of all hospitals/nurses, but if you deliver on a friday, you''ll be dealing with the weekend crew, which tends to be as small as possible, and nurses might be a bit more cranky at working on the weekends.

Re: bras...I definitely suggest getting at least 2 sleep bras to start with. I got the gillian and omally ones from target that look sorta like sports bras, and I wore them as soon as I was allowed to shower in the hospital. A tank or two is a good idea if you are smaller chested, but the target ones were not supportive/big enough in the boob area for me. I''m glad I held off on buying a more expensive tank or bra like the bravado ones since now I have no use for them, but even though I''m not bfing, I''m glad I had the 2 sleep bras at first!

Hi everyone, is anyone else out there freaking out about the swine flu? I recently read that pregnant women should be first in line for the vaccine. I am a SAHM with my young son, but he is starting pre-school in a few weeks and I''m freaking out that he might get swine flu or I may catch it now that I''m pregnant.

To make matters worse, I was getting my hair done a few weeks ago, and my hairdresser told me that one of the girls who worked in the salon who was 6 months pregnant died of swine flu - I live in northern VA, but this woman who died lived in MD (a few minutes drive away). They are saying that women in the last trimester are most susceptible because of their taxed respiratory systems - the swine flu almost always causes pneumonia in pregnant women, causing the women to go on respirators, and about half the people who have died of swine flu have been pregnant women.

Is anyone else freaking out about this, or is it just me? Have you guys talked to your doctors? Mine said that I should get vaccinated as soon as possible, but it''s not yet available ...

vesper..i read the article about 2 weeks ago about increased risks for pregnant women around swine flu. the stat i saw then was something like out of 49 people in the US who had died, 6 were pregnant, not nearly half, but certainly a bit more elevated than other groups.

the vaccine isn't available yet and there is some debate on whether or not it's safe...some say it's basically like a flu vaccine which should be fine, but others say that it may not be (there is a lot of info online about this, i just don't recall details). personally i don't want to be one of the very first.

that said, we are going to spain in about a week and i am nervous about exposure on the plane, i might actually wear a mask. it looks silly when i see people doing it, but what's a few hours of silliness to try to stay safer? other than that, you can just try to be as careful as possible, wash your hands, basically like we would be more careful during winter flu season, but it seems like there's not much else to do.

Mara - the standard mask doesn't do anything to protect you. It only prevents those with the flu from coughing the virus onto others. You need an N-95 respirator which is a thicker mask and it only works if it's properly fitted. You have to go in and have it fitted to you. If you just buy one and put it on right before the plane ride, it's unlikely that'll protect you from any viruses.

vesper, I''m concerned about the swine flu too. We had our first swine flu death here recently. I''ve praying that I''ll be okay, as well as using lots of hand sanitizer and trying to keep myself as healthy as possible. I can understand your concern especially with your son going back to school soon.

I''m trying not to worry about swine flu because it''s one of those things I can''t control. I''m not going to seek out a bunch of people with flu like symptoms and be all touchy feely with them and then touch my face without washing my hands or anything, but other than getting a vaccine if it''s recommended and washing my hands a lot (as usual), I''m not sure what else I can do.

This sort of nosy friend of DH''s (the one who wanted to borrow our router which caused my irrational meltdown) was asking us if we had ever thought about me staying home instead of daycare (gee, no, is this something people consider?) and then mentioned his fear of swine flu. If there''s an outbreak where I teach or at daycare, obviously I would stay home and pull the baby out of daycare, but I can''t stop living normal life. The good news is that the death rates from this flu don''t seem to be any worse than from other flus.

PG, I am not a worry'er either for the most part but I did read that almost every preggo who had died from the swine flu was very healthy beforehand which freaked me out a bit more than the typical news that most afflicted who died already had some sort of impairment to their immune system. I had no idea preggos, esp in last tri were that much more susceptible. But I am only 15 weeks so far so I am hoping by the time I am 6 months they will know more about the flu, the vaccine etc. Vesper you are very early also right? If so, same for you...time is on your side in a way.

MC...I'll ask my coworker about that but she said she had masks she got specifically for this from the hospital, as she travels to Japan a lot, and she has some extras she hasn't used.

I just had a spurt of energy between conf calls and unpacked a few boxes from our move (ummm like 3 months ago) in the office that were driving me crazy but I never had the energy to do it...and now the office is so much cleaner, YAY. I tried to be careful when unpacking and moving a box...I put it on a rug and dragged it through the house, but I did have to lift it briefly etc so hopefully I wasn't too crazy. I feel better now that things are cleaner though. I am kind of anal about our house hahaa.

I have been having cramps throughout my lower area, I read that is common for about 15-16 weeks as the uterus is growing and stretching again. I hate the feeling of them as I always wonder if things are ok but I felt better after reading that. They are not painful or anything, like mild menstrual cramps. At least I know something is happening I guess.

Sapphire, that is an awesome photo of the face!! How exciting to be so close. I can't wait til I feel the baby move...that's my next big milestone.

Mara-MC is right-a regular mask won''t do jack unfortunately. You need a respirator.

Well ladies, I went to my first appointment today, and not too much got done. I gave a lot of blood - and the fool nicked a nerve, so my arm hurts SO bad right now, not to mention he had to try both arms even though I told him several times that last time they had to use a butterfly - and filled out a bit of paperwork, but that was it. I scheduled another app for next Friday with midwife, too.

They did determine my due date, tentatively, as April 2nd, 2010!

I think this day would be funny - I was born November 2nd, and my husband July 2nd. We are 2nd babies!

re: bras. I agree with those who has suggested that sleep bras are key. I purchased some from ebay and used them immediately.

Also, for those of you interested in good support and less coverage, consider the "YES!" nursing bra with crossover styling. It''s very supportive and also gives me some lift without covering everything up. You can buy them on ebay.

I also have a couple of these which offer less support but are more like a demi-cup.

Hope this helps! and I hope all of you are having great pregnancies!

also, robbie, your avitar is so great! What a cute little man you have!!

swine flu
I am not sure if I should get the vaccine, but pedi recommends that Meena gets it when it''s available. Usually I wouldn''t worry about it, and just keep on washing my hands and using precautions. But being pregnant and having an one yr old, I really want to protect them as much as possible. And then there''s the safety of the vaccine to think about. Hopefully it''s like the regular flu vaccine, so the decision is easier for me to make.

Hi ladies!

I''ve definitely hit a wall and now I''m just plain UNCOMFORTABLE. Can''t sleep for more than one hour straight...and I''m just in pain
7.gif
One of the babies decided it would be good to cuddle up right under my ribs (specially at night)...boy, that HURTS!!!!!

28 weeks today...so 10-12 more to go!!!. Twin mommies, how in the world did you guys manage to get any sleep the last two months?
39.gif

So I had an emotional breakdown today...why you ask?. Well, cleaning lady was supposed to come today (it''s a new cleaning lady). DH told me to call yesterday to confirm. I said it wasn''t necessary because we had agreed on a date/time already. Well, this morning after the agreed upon time passed, I decided to give her a call. Turns out she thought I had changed my mind...so she wasn''t coming!!. I emailed DH to tell him and he said "I told you to confirm..".

That''s all it took, I started crying like I had just been told I would never eat key lime pie ever again.

Thankfully, we rescheduled and she''s coming tomorrow. That still didn''t stop the crying though. Hormones+tiredness+baby on bladder+baby on ribs= VERY emotional Mandarine!!

Still, loving all the baby movements and hoping I can hit the pool tonight to see if that helps ease the pain
