Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Ohh, you did baby bump announcements. Does that mean you have a bump already? Too cute! When is your gender appt?

We have an appt scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving, and hopefully we can get a definite sex answer, otherwise our "real" gender appt is for the second week of Dec, I think.

I''ve had more evergy again, as long as I don''t lay down. The minute I lay down, I am out. I''ve been having weird pains in my lower abdomen again, like the 7-10 week time, but I think that it is just more stretching. I measured my waist this morning, and though I have put on about 5 lbs, I have only gained like an inch waist wise. I guess the lil guy just wants more room. I don''t blame him.

Hi everyone!

November, hope everything went smoothly for you!

Jcrow: SO excited to hear about your gender u/s when it happens!

Luvinlife: Congrats and welcome!

Jas, bummer about the m/s still hanging around, but I''m glad you love your Midi!

As for me, I had my 38 week appointment + growth ultrasound.

Get this: she''s measuring 8 pounds 6 ounces. EIGHT POUNDS SIX OUNCES. At 38 weeks. They measured everything twice, too, just to be sure. So, since my original OB comes back on Tuesday, the stand in doc has me seeing the old OB on Tuesday, where they''re assuming we''re going to talk inducing. Yikes.

we''ll they were more of "we''re expecting" announcements. but i decided not to call them baby announcements since there''s no baby born yet :] but, yeh, i do have a bump. it''s so strange to see. i''ve caught my reflection a couple of times and got really worried that i was so bloated or needed to go to the gym! haha. it was just a split second of omg before remembering that i was pregnant and a belly is normal. haha.

my appt is during the first week of december.

amber - re: the weight of the baby... i''m sorta terrified... my mom was nearly a 10 lb. baby
23.gif

Jcrow, I hear ya, I was 5lb4oz when I was born, and that was late. Paul was almost 11. No wonder I have the most insane stretch marks on my belly (the doc also mentioned that's why I have that numb spot in my belly).

I forgot: I'm 80% effaced, nearing 2cm dilation, baby is "waaaay head down" tucked super deep in my pelvis. They could barely get down there to see her. It looks like I'm literally locked and loaded.

Re: Baby weight, I''m trying VERY hard to not think about it.

I was almost 9 lbs and 21 inches, and I think that DH was about the same weight.
32.gif
I''m not sure about my parents though...

Re baby weight: my mom had all big babies....only one of three was under 9lbs (my sister...she was 8lb 8 oz so still not small). Since I''m tall (5''10") and Dh is tall (6''2") and mom had big babies my OB assumed DD would be large as well. At 39 weeks she was estimated at 8lb 5 oz.....we induced and she was 7lb 11oz with a tiny head. Super easy delivery (I pushed twice). I won''t lie, I was pretty terrified most of my pregnancy of having to pop out a 10 lb baby on my first try at this labor stuff....but really who knows how big these babies will actually end up and no matter how big, he/she will come out somehow!!

Amber I don''t know if they told you this but there is at least a pound range on either side of that. The US is not exact at all and unfortunately the further you get the further away from the true weight it possibly could be.

So your baby could be as small as 7lbs and change or it could be bigger (but we won''t think about that). So just keep that in mind!

hubs and i were both in the 8 lb range [i think] and my grandmother had 3 large babies. um, did i mention that my mom + grandma + me are all at or under 5''?
6.gif
then there''s hubs at 6''. haha.

Re: baby weight, I was kind of expecting a big baby as both of our families produce 9+ lb babies, but he was only 7 lb 15 oz (my midwife told me 7.5-8 lbs, so I think that she was pretty on the ball with that one).

Ditto NF about accuracy of ultrasound. One of my coworkers was mildly freaking out because of what the suspected weight of her baby was, and the baby ended up being just over 8 lbs.

Also, ACOG''s position is that suspected macrosomia ("big baby") is not an indication for induction of labor, as it doubles the chance of cesarean without improving maternal or fetal outcomes. Just something to be aware of. I think that DD did a lot of research about this earlier as they were expecting Hunter to be pretty big.

Good luck, November!

amber don't worry too much about what they are estimating, i know three gals in real life who have been told their babies are all 8lb+ before birth but then went on to have smaller babies than what they were estimating a week or two before. it could be bigger or smaller! i was 8.5 and 2 weeks late 35 years ago and greg was 8 lbs 41 years ago! so we were both pretty big way back then...yikes. i just try not to think about it haha.

meresal i had a lot of ligament stretching pains til about week 17 or 18...they would come every few weeks or so. now i don't really get them as much...but they would definitely keep me awake and be noticeable while it was happening for a few days.

thanks for the info re: the classes china and others. i think we will prob take a birth class and maybe i can just plug my ears and hum for the parts i don't want to know about!! when it comes to this stuff i really am 'ignorance is bliss' because i feel like it just gets me worried. and yeah for the birth plan i am not that strict about making sure it happens, aka like in 'knocked up' the gal was ADAMANT about certain things, i am really more like, whatever it will take to get the baby out kinda thing and if it can be done with minimal and/or no drugs and potentially natural, great...if not then that's what it is. i actually really like the idea of an underwater birth since i saw it on a video once in college and it seemed so much more relaxing for the baby and mom, but have been too lazy to look into it and we are not THAT alternative haha.
3.gif

sunkist, yeah our paperwork said 'up to an hour' the baby could be gone from us so i think we'll delay it too. i was reading some of the things off to greg last nite and he was like 'really...they ask that?' hahaa. he said 'where is the checkbox for 'we want to make stew with the placenta'... GROSS. boys.

and yeah we will be taking a BF class or two... that is the thing that i really want to know as much as possible about since it seems so hit or miss.

Amber - I''ve heard plenty of stories about babies being way overestimated. How''s your fundus measurement? If it measures average, I wouldn''t worry.

Thanks for the soothing comments, ladies. I was thinking the same thing about the ultrasound being not quite the best gauge. My fundus is currently measuring 41 weeks? Which is kind of crazy considering I''ll be 39 on Sunday. I chalk it up to the fact that I''m only five feet tall with no torso to speak of, really.

What counts more? Fundus or u/s? Not like either one disagrees with the other, though. She''s starting to get really painful, her feet and her butt are constantly pushing out- my carpal tunnel is seriously impacting my day to day routine, too. I can''t even grab the toilet paper in the morning, my hands are so stiff!

There''s too much to catch up.

Just wanted to say.
Good luck November. Hope you are already holding your baby.

Thanks for the well wishes. Vesper - I am scared about the stent, but if I need it, then I need it. Hope not though. drk - Thanks for your medical opinion.

The pain had subsided a great deal. Now I feel a soreness kind of pain. I am drinking lots of water and cranberry juice, but the stones haven''t pass yet. Bascially they can''t do much since I am pregnant. So it''s more about pain management and making sure that urine isn''t getting backed up. I have an appt with OB tomorrow, so I''ll see if he thinks I''ll need a stent or not.

Mara - They say that pregnant women are higher risk than non-pregnant women b/c we need more fluid intake. The L&D nurses say it''s pretty common. I don''t think it''s something you have to worry about if you are drinking lots of water, and not too much carbonated and caffeinated drinks. They also said that people who have frequent UTIs are higher risk, so maybe that add to it since I had assymptomatic UTI for over year before I had Meena.

November--good luck girl! Hope everything goes wonderfully!

Hi preggies
35.gif
--hope everyone is doing well. I am still reading but don''t have much to contribute. Just around 10 weeks and still feeling pretty icky. Had my first midi appnt and i love her so that''s good. The care is superb (1.5 hour appnts, 6 home visits in the postpartum period, full access to an OB & all testing if needed or requested, choice of place of birth etc. all covered by public health care!) We are planning a home birth with 2 attending midwives and an assistant. I am pretty excited about this so i am just hoping for an uneventful pregnancy like the last.

Jas, have you had a homebirth before? My 3 year old was born at home and we''re planning another HB in January. SO and I both thought it was a really lovely experience!

Amber,
Really, don''t stress about the baby''s size. Late ultrasounds can actually be off as much as 2 lb. in either direction. Plus, a simple weight doesn''t tell you anything about your ability to deliver that baby. Fat squishes, so a fat baby isn''t really going to be an issue.

My older daughter was estimated to be 9 lbs. She was actually just a hair under 7 lbs. My other kids were 8 lb. 3 oz., 7 lb. 4 oz., 7 lb. 14 oz., and 8 lb. 4 oz. The hardest one was the 8 lb. 4 ozer -- not because of his weight, but because he had a 14.5" head. I expect this baby will be heavier and probably have a huge head as well, but since I''ve known plenty of women that have delivered really big babies, I''m not going to sweat it.

There was a study done several years back that showed that moms are the best predictors of their baby''s size, which I thought was quite interesting. I guesstimated my youngest at 8 lb. 2 oz. and was only off by 2 oz.

How much do you think the baby weighs?

Rock, I''m thinking she''ll be 7lb8oz at the most. I am feeling super heavy and achy right now, but not "done". She could stay in a week longer for all I care.
1.gif
As long as she''s healthy.

Count me in as another who was predicted to have a 9 pounder. Amelia came in at 7lbs, 2oz, and that was including the crap (literally) they weighed as well. I actually had an appointment on April 1 to get measured and possibly induced soonafter, but my kid had different plans and was born on that day instead. Joke was on me!

They estimated Calvin was 7 lbs 14 ounces at 36 weeks! I thought I was going to end up with GINORMOUS baby...

Calvin was born on at 39 weeks and 6 days - at 7 lbs 14 ozs! I''m sure it was a coincidence...but don''t put too much faith in the sizing ultrasounds!

Amber, that sounds like a perfect size. Now we just have to wait to see how close you are!
2.gif
I put a lot more faith in a mom''s intuition than anything else.

I sympathize with you -- the last couple of weeks of pregnancy are not much fun. You''re uncomfortable and they seem to last forever! It''s even more fun when people call you every day saying, "You haven''t had that baby yet??" By the time you go into labor, it actually seems like a good thing just to have something happening.

Best wishes for a very easy labor for you and your little peanut!

It''s funny, they said she was super low in my pelvis, so low the u/s tech couldn''t even see my cervix on the scan. When I had my internal, the first thing the doc said was, "Wow, she''s really low!" How is it possible I didn''t know that? I don''t feel heavy, I don''t feel like anything is "falling out". At the most i just feel the need to pee 24/7, but nothing else. Is that normal?

I felt the same way, Amber- Henry was very low in my pelvis in the mid-30 weeks but I felt no pressure until hours before his birth.

Amber- That''s crazy! I remember a few of us commenting on how it looked liked she had dropped about two weeks ago!

Ebree, totally like that! I''m not even complaining. In fact, last night her butt was so humped up under my ribs and SOMETHING was pushing out by my belly button at the same time. I was miserable. I couldn''t sleep at all.

Meresal: I know, right?? How did I NOT notice she had dropped big time?

I felt like he was still very high too, but the nurses told me (IIRC) they had to go under his head to check my cervix (making the checks so. incredibly. painful.)

Amber, "locked and loaded" HAHA! :) Love it! I always hear about babies being over-estimated on weight, but never under-estimated on their actual weight. So I''m sure when she''s ready to come out she''ll be the perftect weight. Do you think babies are like gold fish? If there''s no more room in the bowl they won''t grow anymore??

dumb question, sorry, hahaha

lots of labor dust to you.
Can''t wait to see your little girl and hear about your labor.

Mara Sorry to threadjack but have you ever been to Barbara of Pauline''s Cake Decorating Supplies? It''s in SJ. Since moving I haven''t found a great supply store so if you have any recs I would appreciate it!

No it''s not dumb actually! In a way, yes. A woman''s eggs generally have some genetic material that allows the baby to grow compatibly with the mom''s size. Of course occasionally this doesn''t work out-but for the most part you won''t have a baby you can''t birth. They have problems sometimes with genetic mismatch though if you have a donor egg-and then it''s more likely that a mom could have a baby that would be too big for her to birth.

NF yes Barbara''s is pretty good, I reviewed it on Yelp... but CakeWorks in Campbell is great for supplies as well. Barbaras is PACKED with stuff but organization is very bad so it''s hard to find things. And they are cash and check only I think, and Barbara will talk your ear off. It''s very hard to get out of there with a quick visit. CakeWorks is packed with stuff, but better organized and easier to find things, and takes CC''s. I love their supply of big piping tips. Also, I think that CW has better hours? You can take classes at CW but they are just ok.
