meresal - i've been meaning to try that stroller out, but haven't seen it to do so. my hands down favorite stroller is the bugaboo bee, especially with the changes they've made to the 2010 model. unfortunately, hubs i very against the price. so, i'll probably be compromising and doing the city mini.
To be honest, I can't justify it either. I can think of TONS of things that I can would rather spend $1000 dollars on (or save towards), or would rather receive as a gift, than a stroller that I'm not even sure how much I will use. I'm actually surprised I even put a nicer stroller on there at all. I could probably get away with just using the Maclaren Snap N' Go, but I really want something that the baby can lay down in, which is why I like the Pram option.

It doesn't have the cup holders... which might be a pain, but I'm sure someone has come up with something to make drinking possible
2.gif

I didn't look at the city mini. I'll have to check that out real quick!

ETA:

2 of SIL's friends just got the Bugaboo for their newbors (they are sisters) and it is ALLL that my MIL can talk about... so that has also been a deciding factor that it is way to 'high society' for me. The last thing I want MIL bragging about is how SHE got me the 'Bugaboo'.

the city mini is small. and folds up like a champ!! super, super easy. oh, and it's light too. and has a bar you can add so that you can put an infant car seat on it too.

Re Books: I just went out and got What to Expect the First Year....even though I have been there/done that, I feel like I have totally forgotten everything in that first year! I started flipping through, but need to get busy reading. I remember reading lots of books about sleeping with Andrew and the main jist of almost everyone is like Mara said...routine. You have to be consistent so they will figure out when to nap and lay down at night. I was lucky, Andrew has always been a good sleeper and he slept through the night since 8 weeks (except for when teething, which is a whole other story!).

Kimberly, glad things went well yesterday and you didn''t get sick.

Vesper, thanks...how are you feeling lately?

Jcrow, hope you are feeling better and yea on getting stuff from the registry!

Anchor, can''t wait to see a pic of baby Jacob!

Puppmom, thank you and congrats on your new nephew!

Burk, thank you!

RPS, thank you...yes, that is quite a boy trend for this month!

SS, very true going through it for the second time...you are more hands on and less likely to just take what they tell you at face value...although I have to have a c-section, so not too much I can control there!

Mara, the ultrasound I just got at 36 weeks was great! I could really see his facial features...although he wouldn''t stop moving around enough to get a good pic!

Puffy, thank you!

Lovelylulu, thank you and I love that "porking up"!!

Drk, thank you! I''m sure what you had was nothing...and I''m also glad you can just pop right in and check on the baby.

Pretty Blues, I am right there with you...glad to be back on track eating healthy after the holidays.

Mela, that pic is too funny! Good to know!

Mere, thank you! Glad you found a stroller you love!

Blackpaw, thank you so much!

MP, thank you so much....I would love to have a chunky monkey, chunky babies are so cute! And I feel you on the sleep...I haven''t been sleeping well since about the beginning of the 2nd trimester...hope it gets better for you!

Congrats Anchor on baby Jacob!

Mara, I''m sorry you''re feeling so crappy. You''ve got the right attitude though...home stretch! How much longer are you planning to work?

Mela, that picture is hilarious! That''s why this thread is great...everyone shares what they know!

I have a questions for you ladies you aren''t first time moms. I hear a lot of things about having your 2nd (or more) - like labor may move faster, you show sooner etc. First of all, is this just a myth? Second, does it count if there are 14 years between your first and second? I ask for two reasons:

1. Labor was only 9 hours from first contraction to delivery with DD. I''m pretty much sold on the idea of an epidural with this birth and want to make sure I''m to the hospital in plenty of time to get one. With my first labor. I was 9 cm dilated in less than 6 hours! Should I bolt to the hospital first contraction?

2. I have a belly already. I thought it was because I was constipated but that seems to have cleared up with colace and no more iron in my vits. I''m only 9 weeks and have gained 3 pounds. However, the pants that I wore when I was 20 pounds heavier "fit" me - in the waist anyway. I''m very cautious (I guess anxious is a better word) about this pregnancy and don''t want to tell anyone until our NT scan in 3 weeks but I''m feeling like I have to wear loose clothing or you can "tell" I''m pregnant. I''ve been avoiding my friends! I had a close friend text me the other day "Everything okay?"

Puppmom, I''m not sure about the labor thing b/c I will be having a scheduled c-section, but I have heard that labor goes faster with each pregnancy. I had a friend that just had her 3rd baby and she was having contractions, but sent her husband to work b/c she thought it would be a while, but she ended up having to call an ambulance to drive her to the hospital b/c it came on so quickly! I would just ask your doc at what point he/she wants you to go in. As far as the bigger tummy...yes! I started showing pretty much right away. I had gained 10 pounds before my first doctor''s visit and was in maternity pants by 8 weeks or so. I think a lot of it was bloating though because my belly has not really gotten much bigger since then. I think everything you''ve experienced is normal

Anchor
Congrats and Welcome Jacob. What an ordeal you had to go through.

Steph
Yay for the good news. That’s what my OB said (that it’s not a concern until it’s 3 weeks or more behind) when our BB’s head was measuring 1 week behind.

Mara
LOL on wanting to rip your belly off. I am right there with you.
Glad you are still sleeping ok. I think Meena is preparing me for sleepless nights with the baby. She is having major sleep regression, and can’t be put down in her crib at all and then waking up in the middle of the night. I’ve been exhausted.

Melu
LMAO. You are so adorable. I had never tried the lettuces. I usually just massage in a warm shower.

Baby Registry
You ladies are lucky to have more options. I don’t think there are BBB or Baby Earth in California. Last time, I registered at BRU. We got one big item off my registry and some clothes from my work shower. The other shower, people gave clothes, blankets, bathtub (not the one I registered from), audio monitor (which was on my registry) and gift cards. So we bought almost all the big items ourselves from various sites, and the registry really didn’t matter. And then we got mostly cash gifts and clothes after Meena was born when we had the Chinese version of the “meet the baby shower”.

Meresal
I bet a woman that starts out at a D is way bigger than DD. I started out B and ended with DD when my milk came in last time. I’ve read about large chested mommies BFing on babycenter community.

MP
Sorry that you are not getting proper sleep.

Puppmom
I don’t know about the faster labor thing since I haven’t gave birth to the second baby yet.
My pants did feel tighter earlier on with this pregnancy, I have more bloating, and my bump showed early. I don’t know if it makes a difference how close the pregnancies are; I got pregnant when Meena was 9 months.

Mela~That pic is great!!!

puppmom~I think I'll probably be going in right away when I start having contractions or my water breaks because my OB has advised me to do so. My first labor was 11 hours and since they say labor tends to get shorter he'd like me to error on the side of caution. As for showing earlier, yes I did and boo to that!
41.gif

re boob size and BFing, I've never heard of the size being a factor. I have a friend who was a very small A who BFed for over a year with no problems. I am naturally large (34 D to DD before pregnancy) and was so afraid Tayva was going to suffocate in my boob when I first fed her (I even said "is this okay? MY boob is WAY bigger than her head!!!) and had no problems.

In other news I have to start my no dairy, no corn diet in a couple weeks and I'm starting to freak out a little. There is corn in SOOOOO many things and that is what T did the worst with so I really need to give it a shot getting it out of my system before the new baby gets here but YUCK!!!!!

Qt, lol, I was referring to myself, and where I am now. I can't even imagine NOT BF'ing when I know that I am going to be enormous once my milk comes in.

I plan on BF'ing no matter what, but My MIL said something about the hospital waiting to long to give her the pill that would have kept the milk from coming in, is that true? Anyone ever heard of that?

RPS- Thank you for clarifying... I have noticed that some women's chest's don't grow as much, but I just thought it was because there was less to begin with.

Burk- No dairy and no corn?!?! Whaaaaaa??? Is this for all preggos???

Congrats and welcome to baby Jacob!
Can't wait to see pictures of your little man.

Mela--
That picture is priceless!

Steph--

for the great news.
Are you next on the list?
It's probably going to be between you and Mara.

Puppmom--
The labor nurse told us that typically the subsequent labor are much faster.
However, if your last pregnancy was >7 yrs ago, then your body will think this is your first pregnancy.
So it might as just as long as your first pregnancy....which wasn't long being 9 hrs.
Do you live far from the hospital?

I laugh when I think of our LO''s face being completely flattened by my uncontrolable boobage. I''ll have to tell DH about this, I''m sure he''ll get a huge kick laugh out of the whole thing!

Anchor- CONGRATS and welcome to Jacob! Beautiful name.

Steph- So glad your little one is ok!

Mela- There are no words for that picture. It reminds me of why I like you so much!

Re: BF/boobs- I actually didn''t go up in size hardly at all during pregnancy or even when my milk came in. And I have had no problems BF, so luckily it isn''t related.

China- I forgot to reply to you a few pages back!

The shopping spree went really really well! Thank you so much for your advice! I think I found the bedding I want at Doodle''s. It''s by a designer called Kristaben.
30.gif

We got some cute t''s and jeans at the boutique right next door to them (Got DH a pregnancy shirt that says, "He shoots... He scores!")
12.gif
He wore it that night! I also found some work pants here by a designer called "Noppies". They are great!

And we did some MAJOR damage at Pea in the Pod! A little over $1200 I think. I got some good dresses and a few that I will even be able to wear after baby.

Hi everyone!

Still here!

39w2d. Argh! Get this baby out of here! Haha.

I''m cranky as all get out. My brother, his girlfriend, and her daughter came to visit. For three weeks. I usually love little kids, but holy moly I have NO patience right now. It''s driving me crazy. I really like my alone time and my quiet time and I know that is going out the window with the baby coming. So, I was hoping to have the last few weeks quiet. Oops. Oh well. They are leaving tomorrow morning and i''m not in active labor yet, so I''ll have some time before the baby comes to breath.

I''ve been having prodromal labor for a 3 days so far and it is absolutely exhausting and frustrating. Has anyone gone through this? I''ll have regular, strong contractions that are hard enough to keep me from sleeping. But they will peter out after a while or change patterns. I have an OB appointment tomorrow where we are going to check to see if the baby has fully engaged. Then I think we''ll be having a converstion about where to go from here. My OB is really fantastic. She knows I really want to do this naturally and she has waited to have any "induction" talk because she knows I''m not happy with that idea. But, this days of labor crap mixed with the fact that the baby is getting big. I think we''ll be talking induction tomorrow.

i''m kind of saddened. Hopefully if I do get induced, I can still deliver as naturally as possible. Oh well, sometimes these things are out of our control. We''ll have to see. I''ll keep you updated.

Last week we got another ultrasound because the doctor wanted to check the baby''s amniotic fluid and such. He''s a total exhibitionist. He kept plastering his private parts right up to the wand. Haha. Crazy guy.

I hope everyone is doing well.

CONGRATS Anchor!!

About the boob thing, thanks for your story Burk. I was a 36D before and now my 38DD feels like it''s about 3 sizes too small. Ugh! My boob is way bigger than a baby''s head at this point. It''s kind of freaky.

Cello- I was JUST thinking of you and wondering how you were doing. Even searched out the Preggos In Waiting list to see when your due date was. I know exactly how you feel. I really really did NOT want to be induced and waited as long as possible. I did end up having to be induced. It was not as bad as I thought at all and my labor progressed really quickly and I only needed a tiny bit of pitocin. I did end up with an epi, but probably cause I was a wimp and had had enough. Anyways, the very best thing for you to do is relax and go with the flow. Labor has its own ideas and us trying to control it doesn''t work and makes it worse! So just trust your body and know that whatever your labor story is will be unimportant and insignificant once your little one gets here. I do hope you get the labor you want, but more importantly I hope you have a quick and healthy delivery of your baby!

Mer- So glad you did some shopping damage! I lived in my Noppies at work. So comfy. Funny thing is when I was first preggo I looked at those and was like, no way will I ever wear those. Well come a few months later and I wish I''d bought like 5 pairs! I did see that shirt for the guys, so cute.

Hi China!
Thanks for the kind words. I''m just frustrated because this pregnancy has been so incredibly difficult right from the start and I was hoping that I could at least attempt to labor naturally. I''m jumping the gun though. We''ll see what the doc has to say tomorrow :-)

Cheers!

Cello- I hear you. you''ve definitely had a rough time of it. You never know though, so fingers crossed for you. Also, you can still try to labor naturally even if you are induced. It''s just a lot harder b/c you are hooked up to everything so you can''t walk around and do all of that. But it''s still possible to give it a go. Who knows, this could all be moot and you could go into labor on your own! Everyone says that once you schedule an induction, you go into labor. That happened to a lot of my friends IRL. Let us know how it goes tomorrow!

Puppmom, I agree with Lili. If it''s been a while since you had a child, it''s a guessing game which way your labor will go! Doesn''t that stink? Everything would be so much easier if there were rules to labor.

My 2nd was born 4 1/2 years after my 1st, and my 2nd labor was about 2 hours. My 3rd, who was 19 mo. after his sister, was 5 hours. And then my 5th, who was 6 years after #4, was 14 hours. I do have to add the caveat that 12 hours of that consisted of very light, easily dealt with contractions that were anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes apart.

I personally wouldn''t go to the hospital at the first sign of contractions; I''d wait until you can''t talk through them, provided your hospital isn''t like 3 hours away. If you stay home as long as possible, you can move around as you want, eat what you feel like, etc.

As for the belly...yeah, after the first one, I developed a little belly about the same time that the pregnancy test came back positive. I knew it wasn''t the baby because it takes a while for the uterus to move up past the pubic bone, so I guess in my case it was simple bloating. I hated looking 4 months pregnant when I was only like 9 weeks along!

Cello, I''m so sorry you''re feeling all the wonderful effects of being full term. I hope that you will be able to find some things to do that will relax you.

Each night, I have BHs for hours and hours and it IS exhausting. I''ve started taking long, hot bubblebaths when it gets bad and I spend the time in there doing some visualizations of my cervix opening up. It sounds kind of silly, but I believe it works -- I did the same in labor the last time when things got tough and it really helped to keep me focused on getting through each contraction. I also have little talks with the baby about how we''re going to do this together.

I know that induction sounds like a good idea right now -- oh, it''s so tempting to get it all over with, especially when you''re DONE -- but I think it''s important to consider what your ultimate goal is. If you want to go naturally -- I''m assuming without meds -- pitocin does make the contractions stronger so they''re harder to deal with.

When you go into labor by yourself, endorphins are released to help you deal with the contractions. When contractions are started with pitocin, you don''t get the endorphins so not only do you get stronger contractions, but you''re missing a key element of dealing with the contractions.

Unless the doctor has a sound medical reason for wanting to induce, you have every right to say no. Generally, going to 42 weeks gestation is safe, especially if you''re a first time mom since they go into labor an average of 8 days after their due date.
I know it''s a really tough position to be in. My 3rd was 11 days overdue and the OB was only giving me 3 more days before she insisted we''d induce. I was flat out miserable being pregnant, but also flat out miserable to be facing induction because I didn''t want an IV, AROM or pain meds. I spent a lot of time talking to my son and encouraging him to come out and he did! I avoided all of the things that I didn''t want and it was totally worth fighting for more time.

==========

I got my hair cut today so I also had my appointment for the 15 minute back massage. Honestly, it was not as good and relaxing as I had hoped, but it wasn''t the therapist''s fault at all. I know that until I''m not hauling around this huge weight out front, my lower back is hopeless.

However, I have a full massage scheduled for next Wednesday and I asked the therapist if she is familiar with acupressure points for encouraging labor -- and she is! I''ll be just under 39 weeks at that point, so I feel ok about her working on those points for me. If I''m not ready, nothing will happen, but if I am ready, that might be just the push I need.

Congrats anchor! I adore his name also- it''s so beautiful!

RPS ooh i will have to look into this accupressure labor thing!! i will be over trying to get it done at 37 weeks hehe.

cello i am so glad you checked in, i was thinking about you this morning going...isn''t cello due any day now? i wondered how you were doing knowing what a hard time you had with your recent move etc.

while i am not yet where you are, i hear you re: being DONE. i am sure i will be even more DONE in 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks!!! hang in there, finite period of time (just chant that to yourself).

i would also prefer not to be induced and also hope to do a vaginal birth, but i also know that it''s really out of my control... so i don''t even bother thinking about it or planning around it, that way i am not disappointed. i would say that i know some people who have had inducement who were totally against it and in the end said it was not bad like they expected. so i try not to have too many expectations.

WHY MY MOTHER IS NOT INVITED WHEN I GIVE BIRTH:

So, yesterday my SIL gave birth to her first child - my mother''s sixth grandchild. I was seriously honored when she asked me to be there. I did my best to help without getting in the way and hopefully she is happy I was there. If nothing else, I think she''ll be grateful for the pictures I was able to capture of the baby''s first moments while she and my brother were occupied. My mother was told of the plan ahead of time and knew only one other support person besides my brother could be there - and that would be me. My brother called my mom when labor began and told her to sit tight that he would update her as often as possible. I stepped out to the nurse''s station while SIL was getting her epidural and one of the nurses asked if we were expecting more family and I said no. She confirmed that there were people in the waiting room...sure enough, there was my mom and dad. They told her she could come in to say hello for a little while but couldn''t stay. She promptly sent my dad home, asked my brother to take her home after the birth and parked herself in a chair IN the delivery room and wouldn''t leave, saying "What, did you think I was just gonna sit around waiting for a phone call? You know me better than that!" She wouldn''t even leave to eat or get a drink during the 14 hours she was there for fear they wouldn''t let her back in. We had to fetch her food and coffee TWICE. We did this, of course, to avoid any drama that would upset SIL. Even though she didn''t want my mom there in the first place, she didn''t seem upset by it so it seemed better to keep our mouths shut. My brother reminded her that during the delivery they may ask someone to leave to which she responded "I''m sure Puppmom wouldn''t mind rotating in and out with me!" Ugh! Anyway, my SIL is fairly modest but, as you know, you let your guard down during labor. This is NOT an invitation for people to cross boundaries you normally have in place. Today, my mother who again showed up at the hospital uninvited while friends were visiting proceeded to tell everyone there that she took a picture when the baby was coming out and all she caught was "SILs VAGINA and baby''s BUTT and TESTICLES." She thought SIL might want to keep that picture so she emailed it to her and when she confirms receipt, she''ll delete it from her camera and computer! Fortunately, SIL is VERY laid back and shrugged her off. I may have just tackled her right then and there.

So...my mother is a piece of work and will NOT receive a phone call until the baby is born!

re: acupuncture - my sil and i went to get prenatal massages and she asked her massage therapist to do some pressure points on her feet to stimulate labor. so, that''s something else you can inquire about.

Yea! I FINALLY heard from my doctor''s office and it was GREAT news! The baby''s tummy was only 1.5 weeks behind as of yesterday and she said they only get concerned when it is 3 weeks or more behind. And with the amount of weight he put on (almost a full pound in 1 week), they weren''t worried about him not getting nutrients! Whew, what a relief from a stressful couple of weeks. Thanks again for all the kind words and encouragement...they were greatly appreciated! Now I''m going back to try to catch up with what else is going on with everyone else!
Steph that is great news; I had your little guy in my prayers.

Hi RPS. Yeah, those are the exact reason why I don''t want to be induced. Induction doesn''t sound like a good idea, I think you might have misunderstood. It''s my biggest fear because I know that there is a higher likelihood of having an epidural if I''m induced and the epidural is something that I am seriously, flat-out against because of past experiences (had a miserable experience with an epidural for a medical procedure where I got a headache that made my brain feel like it was smashing against my skull at 70 mph. nice huh?)

I''m trying my hardest to not be induced, but I''ve had medical problems this whole pregnancy that have kind of bought us to this conversation. But, it''s just a conversation. I don''t think she''ll actually schedule anything just yet. I''ve been in L&D twice because of lack of movement on the baby''s part and because of passing out/extremely low blood pressure on my part. Baby was in temporary distress both times and both times we had the "5 more minutes of rates like this and we''ll have to talk about taking him" conversation. My pass out episodes are getting worse. So, the induction talk is partially because he''s getting big, but also partially because they are afraid of me passing out more frequently. I''m just a huge bag of medical issues. Fun Fun.

On a more fun note, Christmas was really fun. My husband got me a beautiful nightgown and robe set that''s specifically for nursing. It''s this beautiful cranberry color and the robe is swirled with cranberry and white and has a lovely satin bow. It''s really nice. Before getting pregnant/sick, I always used to sleep in the buff and he remembered me saying that if I ever had to wear pjs, I''d hope that I had some nice ones. He also got me the Le Creuset tart dish in red. I love Le Creuset and I''m so excited to start my collection. It was a really sweet gift. We''re staying with my parents and he knows that I miss my ceramic quiche pan. I make quiches a lot and it''s really frustrating because the one my parents have has the bottom that comes out and I HATE it. So not only did he get a good quiche pan, he one upped himself and got the Le Creuset. It was so sweet. We had a small Christmas between us and decided to focus on our family more. It was nice. Mum and I had a funny moment where I opened a bracelet that she got me and I started laughing and telling her to look in her stocking. I had got her the matching necklace. We have such similar taste, it''s so funny.

Anywho. . . just truckin'' along. DH had an interview for a higher paying job last week. He was called for a second interview and that happened today. I''m really hopefull that it''ll work out. So, keep your fingers crossed!

Aww, thanks Skip! You are the best!

Meresal, regarding breastfeeding with large breasts: from anecdotal evidence, and some friends I have spoken to, having larger breasts can mke BFing more difficult, but nipple size and shape is also very important. I was 34DD before becoming pregnant, and went up to 36E with both pregnancies. Though it is hard to see your baby''s head from the other side of an enormous boob, we had major BFing problems because of my nipples - hope this isn''t TMI, but I have large areolas and small, rather flat nipples, so when the lactation consultant told me to get my whole nipple and areola into the baby''s mouth, that was physically impossible. They actually brought 3 different LCs in to help because unless you have a "standard" size areola, it''s just not going to work properly. Finally, they told me that the only way it would work was with the Medela Nipple Shields, which did really help, but I still had a lot of pain and occassional bleeding through all 3 months of BFing.

Also, contrary to popular belief, larger breasts do not mean more milk production. I was only ever able to produce 1-2 ounces per breast per feeding, even when DS got bigger and needed more. I was pumping whenever he wasn''t feeding to try to increase the supply, but it really didn''t help me. My friends all cracked up when I told them that my milk was drying up, because no one ever expects that will happen to a busty girl.

In fact, all of my friends and family who had the best success with BFing were B cups or smaller (I can think of about a dozen women offhand). I have one other friend who was also a DD cup, and she also had major BFing problems. I think it''s actually harder with a larger cup size.

Vesper- Thank you so much for your post. Not TMI at all, if anything, I think I now need to mentally prepare myself for the fact that I am probably going to have issues. Mine are similar to what you described. I didn't think it was going to be a problem at all, but I am definitely glad that I said something.

I will start doing some research, and maybe taking some extra options with me to the hospital might make things a little bit easier and less stressful if we do come across some difficulty.

Thanks again!

Congratulations, Anchor and Mr. Anchor! What a beautiful name you picked.

Puppmom, how horrific for your SIL, and lucky for your mom that she''s so laid back.

I was going back to work today after 2+ weeks off for the holidays (and I was ready to go, I miss working) and I''m sick. I had a low fever this morning that has broken, having trouble breathing and a cough.

CBE class last night was fine. I knew most of what was shared and she repeated a lot (we watched a movie on pre-term labor then she told us the same things the video said), but John said he learned some interesting things. The best thing I learned was to sit in a chair backwards, it was really comfortable. She had our coaches massage our backs for a period of time which was sorta wierd for me, not the massage part , J rubs my back every day for a few minutes, but the sitting in a room full of other people having it done. She was insistent that coaches do the breathing practices too and John could hardly breath, poor guy. Met a nice couple, she''s due 2 weeks after me, not sure it will translate into friendship but it would be nice to have a friend nearby who has a baby so close in age to ours.
